What the developers have to say:

Why Early Access?

“We're really proud and excited by what we've done so far with MyWorld, and can't wait to see what players will come up with. We are already blown away by some of the worlds uploaded to the workshop. We're looking forward to seeing more MyWorld users sharing, questing and battling together. During this early access period we'll be constantly updating with new content and features.

We want to build on our community that are creating with MyWorld, gather feedback and start evolving it together. Join us on our adventure!”

Approximately how long will this game be in Early Access?

“We’ll develop and refine the product for another 9 months or so before a final full release. The timing will be determined by the player feedback we receive as we work alongside our early adopting community.”

How is the full version planned to differ from the Early Access version?

“The full version will be bursting with more features and content. Here are some of the key items we're planning to develop during the Early Access phase. These will potentially change with feedback and requests we get from the community!
* Traps! Swinging axes, wall spikes, exploding barrels - add devious devices to your worlds
* Ranged combat, bows and spells!
* Character progression, evolving our XP system to include rewards and hero benefits.
* Mounts for quick travel
* Constructor - craft your own turrets, traps and buildings to add to your level
* Constant stream of new content such as new enemies, bosses, themes, buildings and more!”

What is the current state of the Early Access version?

“The foundation of the game is firmly in place. Our editor already boasts 200+ items, including undead skeletons, cursed knights, haunted crypts, towering bosses, homely taverns, friendly NPCS and even a chicken! With the click of a button you can change your world from a foggy blighted land to an enchanted mushroom kingdom, using our 6 world themes (and with even more on the way!)

Multiplayer is robust, sharing and hosting your co-op and PvP adventures is fast and simple, and we have steam workshop up and running too with some great user worlds already being uploaded. All this is controlled within your safe haven and base, the hub world.

Custom quest chains with collect and kill objectives can be added to any NPC's. NPC's can tell stories and add character to your world with the 'dialog only' option.

Control everything through your hub world. Create, host, watch tutorials on 'MyWorld Tv' and more, change your hero character, simply by running over buttons or through portals.

Combat is rewarding, learn enemy timings and use 4 special abilities to smash apart your foes. Most world objects are breakable!

Even though it's currently in early access, we believe that MyWorld already offers players the ability to create, play and share immersive action RPGs. It is still a game in development however. Regular updates will bring more polish, editor content, features, heroes, the lot! All guided by feedback from our community.”

Will the game be priced differently during and after Early Access?

“Yes, MyWorld will be available at a lower price point during the early access period, and the price will increase throughout early access as more content is added. So early adopters get a real price benefit :-)

Once we have feedback and input from the MyWorld community we can finalise the development plan and price for full release. But our aim always has been and is to produce affordable game creation software - that won't change!”

How are you planning on involving the Community in your development process?

“We will be in constant contact with our community via the MyWorld Steam Community Hub forums. We'll listen to feedback and implement the features that are key and important to the community. It's an area that we're very experienced in with our other products GameGuru and AppGameKit.

We'll release updates with new features on a very regular basis, to expand the realms of MyWorld!”

MyWorld Woodland Content Update

We felt it was about time to bring you a content update, adding more free content to the MyWorld universe and this time opting for a distinctly woodland theme, including a total of 29 new shape items that include ramps, walls, blocks and planks under a new 'shapes' tab in the game editor.

We also have some big ticket items for your players to discover as they explore the deeper woodlands including broken and shattered portals, a mysterious tree alter and a wrecked bridge.

If you do make it through the woods, we have created a nice table and chair set to rest during your adventure, and a light to keep the monsters at bay.

We've also made some small fixes to the Samurai Temple doors so you can now lock them, and fixed the small hedges from the nature theme so they no longer suffer when a world is reloaded.

You can read about all the updates in this version HERE.

Until next time we look forward to bringing you more exciting news and great features in the very near future.

Happy Creating!

Workshop Author Interviewed

Every now and again in the MyWorld universe, you come across something special, and behind the scenes is a creator just like you!  We are excited to welcome one such individual who knows how to create a great game, and his name is TheHeroOfTimeAndSpace, the author of Dolamar’s Revenge, available from the Steam Workshop.

TheHeroOfTimeAndSpace was kind enough to answer a few questions about his experiences with making the game, hopefully inspiring others to follow in his footsteps.

Q1. When did you first discover MyWorld and had you created a game before that time?

Before I discovered MyWorld, I was a huge fan of Fight The Dragon, a game similar to MyWorld, where I built a small collection of games as well. After having fully exploited its editor for years, I thought it was time for something different. That’s when I jumped into MyWorld at its release on Steam last year.

Q2. What was the most enjoyable part of the game making process, the level design or the story, or something else?

My favorite game creation part is probably the brainstorming phase. It’s just so fun to toy around in the editor and come up with quirky creations in the process which then inspire me to build a story around them. Then I throw my ‘cast’ of NPCs into the mix, and it becomes one big brainstorm fest where I can let my imagination loose and make up funny scenes for my story :)

Q3. How long did it take you to complete Dolamar’s Revenge?

I might not be the fastest creator around, but I’ve been working on Dolamar’s Revenge about 30 minutes a day for 3 months. And I’m not even talking about all the brainstorming between each of those sessions. This allowed me to polish the game and keep pondering on the next part to build.

Q4. What feature would you like to see which you think will improve your game further?

More NPC interaction. Storytelling could be more immersive if you were able to move NPCs around, give them emotions, have them spawned at chosen times etc. Other things I’m really looking forward to are in-game notifications and special effects like fire and rain.

Q5. What advice would you give someone thinking about making their own game?

My greatest advice to new creators is to not be too ambitious with your first creation. It takes quite some experience to build great games and that’s why my very first games (in Fight The Dragon) weren’t bestsellers either. But if you keep practicing your creative skills with each game you make, you will eventually be able to create that one dream game you want to make.
