What the developers have to say:

Why Early Access?

“Bludgeonsoft is my one-person game studio and Vilmonic is completely unfunded and DIY. That means I do not have a network of beta testers to test this game on multiple systems. If you buy the Early Access version, you will be getting what I consider to be a final release-quality game.”

Approximately how long will this game be in Early Access?

“I'm thinking that 2-3 months should be enough time to build a community of beta testers to help with future releases. Since this is my personal art project, I plan to continually add new things to the game. I will always be expanding the world and shedding new light onto the history and backstory, even after the full Steam release.”

How is the full version planned to differ from the Early Access version?

“There will be more things to craft and build, more secrets to find, and new ways to interact with the life forms in the world. But the essential gameplay will not change. Vilmonic is meant to be a world that you just inhabit, explore, play with and watch as it and its creatures grow.

There is no real "goal" in Vilmonic. In many ways it's more of a toy than a game. That does not mean it isn't challenging. Vilmonic is a world that lets you do what ever you want. So if you choose to, you can use natural and artificial selection to completely steer the evolution of your creatures. Evolving the best hunters, or the most gentile grazers can be pretty tough to do. Getting them to live in harmony is even harder!”

What is the current state of the Early Access version?

“Vilmonic is completely playable and fun, and is very stable.”

Will the game be priced differently during and after Early Access?

“My plan is to bump the price up a little bit after the final release.”

How are you planning on involving the Community in your development process?

“I'd love to hear your feedback, and can definitely use your constructive ( and friendly ;-) ) criticism and ideas. Check out the community hub for Vilmonic, I plan to be very active there!”

Another Status Update

I'm still working on changes to the biology. Here's an example of the bone structure "inside" one of the anims. My current problem is that the DNA to morphology rules are not leading to enough variety...

I still plan to update the beta soon, stay tuned!

Status: Balancing and Bug Fixes

Just wanted to let you all know that I'm still hard at work on re-balancing the game due to changes I made to the genetics and brains. I also took a break over the new year for a major family reunion!

Re-balancing was much harder than I thought. The ecosystem of Vilmonic is now so complex that I need to be very careful with changes I make. >:-\

In this screenshot you can see that desert fungs are currently growing tall and skinny, I don't know if this will always be the case, have to run more tests...

(Factoid: The height of the trunk affects how many spores are dropped, and the smoothness/size of the cap affects how much moisture is evaporated.)
