What the developers have to say:

Why Early Access?

“Bludgeonsoft is my one-person game studio and Vilmonic is completely unfunded and DIY. That means I do not have a network of beta testers to test this game on multiple systems. If you buy the Early Access version, you will be getting what I consider to be a final release-quality game.”

Approximately how long will this game be in Early Access?

“I'm thinking that 2-3 months should be enough time to build a community of beta testers to help with future releases. Since this is my personal art project, I plan to continually add new things to the game. I will always be expanding the world and shedding new light onto the history and backstory, even after the full Steam release.”

How is the full version planned to differ from the Early Access version?

“There will be more things to craft and build, more secrets to find, and new ways to interact with the life forms in the world. But the essential gameplay will not change. Vilmonic is meant to be a world that you just inhabit, explore, play with and watch as it and its creatures grow.

There is no real "goal" in Vilmonic. In many ways it's more of a toy than a game. That does not mean it isn't challenging. Vilmonic is a world that lets you do what ever you want. So if you choose to, you can use natural and artificial selection to completely steer the evolution of your creatures. Evolving the best hunters, or the most gentile grazers can be pretty tough to do. Getting them to live in harmony is even harder!”

What is the current state of the Early Access version?

“Vilmonic is completely playable and fun, and is very stable.”

Will the game be priced differently during and after Early Access?

“My plan is to bump the price up a little bit after the final release.”

How are you planning on involving the Community in your development process?

“I'd love to hear your feedback, and can definitely use your constructive ( and friendly ;-) ) criticism and ideas. Check out the community hub for Vilmonic, I plan to be very active there!”

Another Open Beta: Help test the next version!

This is open to everyone who owns Vilmonic.

This next version includes a pretty big change to animatroids, so please start with a new world! Also, this can be much harder than before, anims early in the game need a lot of help. Oh, and anims now lay eggs.

Feel free to post any bugs you find here in the comments, or post a report here:

Here is the beta access code:

To use this code, restart your Steam client (just in case) and go to your Steam library and right-click on Vilmonic in the list of games, then select "Properties" from the popup menu. In the window that opens, click on the "BETAS" tab and paste the beta access code in the text area provided then click on the "CHECK CODE" button. Once the beta is unlocked, you can switch back and forth between beta and latest release using the drop-down menu at the top of the tab.

Status: Balancing the game with new brains

New anim brains are working well, but there are still balance issues. But maybe those issues are OK...?

As it is right now, it is much harder to get your anims to survive, and they devastate fung populations. It's also really hard to get carnivores to survive for long, they tend to eat their young/parents.

I'm thinking of opening up an alpha version soon for anyone who wants to try it out.

Stay tuned!
