What the developers have to say:

Why Early Access?

“Bludgeonsoft is my one-person game studio and Vilmonic is completely unfunded and DIY. That means I do not have a network of beta testers to test this game on multiple systems. If you buy the Early Access version, you will be getting what I consider to be a final release-quality game.”

Approximately how long will this game be in Early Access?

“I'm thinking that 2-3 months should be enough time to build a community of beta testers to help with future releases. Since this is my personal art project, I plan to continually add new things to the game. I will always be expanding the world and shedding new light onto the history and backstory, even after the full Steam release.”

How is the full version planned to differ from the Early Access version?

“There will be more things to craft and build, more secrets to find, and new ways to interact with the life forms in the world. But the essential gameplay will not change. Vilmonic is meant to be a world that you just inhabit, explore, play with and watch as it and its creatures grow.

There is no real "goal" in Vilmonic. In many ways it's more of a toy than a game. That does not mean it isn't challenging. Vilmonic is a world that lets you do what ever you want. So if you choose to, you can use natural and artificial selection to completely steer the evolution of your creatures. Evolving the best hunters, or the most gentile grazers can be pretty tough to do. Getting them to live in harmony is even harder!”

What is the current state of the Early Access version?

“Vilmonic is completely playable and fun, and is very stable.”

Will the game be priced differently during and after Early Access?

“My plan is to bump the price up a little bit after the final release.”

How are you planning on involving the Community in your development process?

“I'd love to hear your feedback, and can definitely use your constructive ( and friendly ;-) ) criticism and ideas. Check out the community hub for Vilmonic, I plan to be very active there!”

Status: Finishing up version 0.27.00

A quick post to let you know that I'm finishing up the next update which will include a new crafting material (hint: it's toxic) and some new craftables (for the home and office and home office) and new body parts! Also, have you ever wondered what's going on inside the mind of those zombs? This update will begin to shed some light (just a bit, for now).

Update: Version 0.26.00

Phew, finally! Version 0.26.00 is out.

Try out the new Camera! Build one, or if you are lucky, dig one up. Document your world and all of its changes. Then export and share your photos.

There's a new beverage: Revolt™ soda. Drink some if you are (hint) antisocial.

This version contains a lot of behind-the-scenes changes to anim and especially fungol biology.

WARNING: This will cause a bunch of your fungs to die off! Don't worry though, the species that survive will grow back pretty quickly. Consider this the First Great Extinction event in Vilmonic.

These changes were necessary so that in future updates I can start adding features that allow players to view and modify the internal biology of creatures in the world. This will make possible features like an x-ray machine, syringes for extracting DNA, gene splicing, etc.

The Vilmonic simulator now has much more complex model of nutrients and hydration.

One example of this is that creatures now return their nutrients to the soil as fertilizer when they die. So if you have some fungols that need more nutrients, try planting them where something has died (including zombs). Currently fertilizer in a location is used up in the first stage of fungol growth, so it only really helps germination.

As always, let me know what you think of these changes.

About This Game

Vilmonic is an artificial life simulator and evolution sandbox game that takes place in a lonely distant future. You are the last caretaker of the final few life forms on the planet. Protect each animatroid and fungolite species, analyze their DNA, selectively breed new species, craft tools and buildings, dig rivers and make new islands, find ancient tech, and fend off the mindless haywire zombitons...

Craft Farm Breed Evolve!

  • A living, breathing world with evolving life forms that have their own unique genetic code, morphology, physiology, and behavior
  • Breed animatroids and farm fungols for specific traits
  • An ever-growing list of craftable structures and tools, each with a subtle and not-so-subtle impact on the world
  • Treasure hunting, dig up relics from the past, some are useful, many may just be junk
  • Toxic waste barrels, use them to drastically increase the mutation rate of creatures in the world
  • Roads and "driving" mode to help speed up long distance traveling
  • Craftable beverages that have different effects on your avatar (and your pets)
  • Endlessly customizable avatar
  • Mellow, slow paced game play. You can dive in and manipulate every aspect of your world or just sit back and watch it grow
