What the developers have to say:

Why Early Access?

Haze Games is a fully independant 1-Developer & 1-Writer Studio. We have been working on this game for about 3 years now. Early Access purchases will be enable when we consider the game ready; You can test the Pre-Alpha now by emailing us, or joining our Discord:

Approximately how long will this game be in Early Access?

Final release of Fractal Space is planned for 2018. The game will be in puchased Early Access for a few months before release.

How is the full version planned to differ from the Early Access version?

More Chapters

As we go further into Early Access, more chapters will be added, with their associated features. We've recently added Chapter 3.
For the final game, we expect a total of 5 Chapters, for a play time of 4-6 hours.

Most of the sound effects are in their final state. Other sounds are here to provide minimal feedback to the player, and are still in placeholder state. Sound improvements will be done as we progress in Early Access.

Graphics will gradually be improved as we go on; assets will be replaced with increase-quality versions as we release new builds. More objects will be created to populate the space station.

The game will undergo more optimization work further down in development. We can expect 15-30 FPS more for the final release.

Achievements, Leaderboards and Trading Cards

60 Achievements, 6 Leaderboards and Trading Cards will be implemented gradually as we make progress in development. They are currently not implemented.

Steam Cloud

Cloud Save using Steam Cloud is already implemented in the pre-alpha build.

More Languages

For the final release, more languages will be supported. Notably Russian and German in addition to currently supported English and French.

Virtual Reality

This is not a promise, but I have the strong desire to add Virtual Reality support to the game. This will only be done once most of the levels are complete, so we can only expect this during mid-2017, or more likely as a post-release update.

What is the current state of the Early Access version?

First 3 Chapters

Currently, the Early Access build includes 3 Chapters. It should take about 2-3 hours to complete.

The following main features are in a playable state and can be experienced during those first 3 Chapters:
  • Basic Movement, jump, crouch
  • Taser-Gun
  • Jetpack
  • Cameras
  • Room Control
  • Time Manipulation
  • Zero-G

Fractal Space is currently playable with Keyboard and Mouse, or Xbox 360 / One Controller. Steam Controller support will be added for the final release.

The voice-over dialogs in the EA build are currently placeholders. They will be recorded with actors in a studio prior to final release.
Some rooms are currently silent - dialogs still require writing and recording

English & French

Currently, the game is only playable in English or French.

Will the game be priced differently during and after Early Access?

Upon final release, the game's price will be increased. Until then, Early Access price will not change.

How are you planning on involving the Community in your development process?

We will be listening to each and everyone of your requests, comments and feedbacks about the game. In addition, your opinion on difficulty and progression would be greatly appreciated.

For us, the goal of Early Access on Steam is to gather the Community's thoughts, feedback and comments as we go on, all together in this hard-working journey of making Fractal Space a great game!

By purchasing the game, you will have access to the Bugs and Feedback & Suggestions forums, in which you can feel free to suggest your ideas to improve the game, or give details about a bug you encountered ;)

You are also welcome to upload Videos and Screenshots to the Steam Workshop of Fractal Space. It would be a great help for us locate bugs easily and fix them quickly.

Development Update #11

Hi there, dear Fractal Players! We have a small new update v0.2.1!

Steam Controller Support
From any variant of version v0.2.1, the Steam Controller should now work nicely with Fractal Space. A specific profile has been created with the following specs:
  • Improved aiming: Mouse movement using the right trackpad movement
  • Gyroscopic Controls: Pull Left Trigger fully to enable Gyro for more precise aiming
  • UI Navigation: Mouse cursor with right trackpad movement + mouse click with right trackpad button
  • Left Rear Button: Crouch
  • Right Rear Button: Jump

Controls Remapping Fixes
Various bugs were fixed with the controls remapping window and associated tutorials. It should now work better and be more stable :)

Known Issues
We have a couple of issues that will be fixed for the next update:
  • If you can only move the camera, and other inputs are not working correctly, please restart the game. Make sure the Steam Controller is connected before launching the game.
  • If you have a <RI.Hid> errors, at start or later, simply enter the pause menu and click "Close" next to the console. Ignore them, they are harmless and will be fixed in next update
  • You might have errors FormatException: Index (zero based) on display of some tutorials when using the Steam Controller. You can ignore those too.
  • Please do not use the right trackpad (mouse) in the game's controls remapping window for now - you might have some issues (navigate with left stick or Dpad)

That's all for this small update! Thanks for reading us. Have a great holiday, and Happy Gaming!

Development Update #10

Update v0.2.0b on Steam!
Hello! We are now doing the first update - V0.2.0b - since the release of a playable version of Chapter 3 on PC! Here are the various updates, bug fixes and news about the game.

Walls & Texture Alignments

It has been very long, but most of the wall and textures alignements that were present in both Chapter 1 and Chapter 2 should be fixed! Chapter 3 has not been reworked yet.

3D assets have been reworked to ensure a better alignment, and all objects have been checked / moved / resized to avoid the misalignments that were visible. There might still be some present here and there; if you do find some in Chapter 1 or 2, please do take screenshots and notify me! Thanks!

Skip Cutscenes
You can now skip cutscenes by pressing the TAB key (or Y on Controller)! That will be very useful to test the game quicker and for multiple runs:

Even though this new addition has been tested, I recommend that as a tester, you try it thouroughly; as skipping a cutscene means that all the events during those cutscenes need to be executed instantly (open a door, turn off a laser, etc); and there is a chance that in some cases, with specific cutscenes, it breaks some puzzles or creates undesired scenarios.

Especially, for example, for a cutscenes that normally requires the player to wait until some parts of the level are being loaded, configured or initialized (ex: Chapter 3 "Initialize Room" button).

For these very few specific cases of complex cutscenes in the game (maybe 3 out of 200), they need to be set as exceptionally not skippable. If you encounter some sort of strange glitch or bug after skipping a cutscene, please write a bug report on the Discord channel or the Steam Discussion :) Thank you!

Faster Zero-G Boost
Zero-G movement itself has not changed; only the boost speed is faster to cover larger distances. We'll be glad to hear if it feels too fast now :)

Concentration --> Hyper-Speed
Concentration has been renamed to Hyper-Speed. I'll be happy to hear as well how this feels and if this ability name makes more sense to you as a player.

Hyper-Speed: Show Threshold + Controls
Hyper-Speed now shows an orange threshold of auto-deactivation on the health bar; it's easier to know when it will be forced to be disabled. The associated key icon V or Y on Gamepad is now displayed next to the health bar as well, and remains displayed until deactivated:

Bug Fixes
Most of the first bugs found in Chapter 3 have theoretically been fixed, including:
  • Bloc Switch that was not behaving properly to open the Vent in the "rotating laser and electrified ground" (Maintenance Room) should now be working as intended
  • A few flying lights and flying objects / grounds have been fixed ;)
  • A bug made some players get killed by lasers that were disabled in Chapter 3. Should now be fixed.
  • A few walls were not casting shadows properly. Fixed
  • HEALTH_ADDED_TO_IVENTORY notification should now display appropriate text
  • Chapter 3: "On your knees" part should now require the player to crouch to see the switch
  • Very rapidly crouching and releasing key could sometimes result it standing up inside the ceiling. Fixed ;)
  • Various Power Cores could be seen through some walls of the level. Fixed
  • You could re-enter the room with the Kojima Quote on the wall, later on the in game - Undesired. Fixed.
  • Disabled buttons were still making sounds when out of interaction range
I hope you guys will like these changes and bug fixes! Now I'll continue working on wall alignments of Chapter 3, so that the game can be updated some time next week with all 3 Chapters in a more final state :)

Thanks again for your help and support, and Happy Gaming!
