Very good graphics for its time, good design, acceptable story, good fights, not to painfull "riddles", good sound.

All in all, if you want a solid FPS from a few years ago that is not surprising at all but very well done get it.

If it is in a sale, get it for a rainy day.

From the authors of the S.T.A.L.K.E.R.. trilogy a much better, improved experience of a post atomic, full of radiations, survival fps.
Everything is great in this game but the difficulty balance that is pretty high, making this game not suitable for the average player but mostly oriented to the hardcore one.

My Final Score is

94 /100

Metro 2033 is a first-person shooter video game developed by 4A Games and published by THQ. It was released in 2010 for the Xbox 360 and Microsoft Windows. The story is based on Dmitry Glukhovsky's novel of the same name, and is set in the ruins of Moscow following a nuclear war, where the survivors are forced to live in underground metro tunnels. Players control Artyom, a man who must defeat an evil mutant race known as the Dark Ones.
Metro 2033 is played from a first-person perspective. Players encounter human and mutant enemies, who can be killed with a variety of firearms; alternatively, players can employ stealth to evade or silently kill enemies. Ammunition and other necessary items must be either scavenged from the bodies of dead enemies, or purchased from vendors. Some areas of the metro tunnels, including the entirety of the Earth's surface, are covered in radiation, and the player must wear a gas mask to explore these areas. If the gas mask is worn while in combat, it may be damaged, and the player must quickly find a replacement before they die.
Metro 2033 received positive reviews from critics: it was praised for its horror elements, detailed environments and appealing plot, but it was criticized for its buggy artificial intelligence and its many graphical issues.
A sequel, Metro: Last Light, was released in May 2013.On August 26, 2014, a compilation of both titles was released for Microsoft Windows, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One. On PlayStation 4 and Xbox One, this remake was entitled Metro Redux. On Microsoft Windows, OS X, Linux, and SteamOS, a release entitled as Metro Redux Bundle includes both this game and Metro: Last Light Redux.

I'd just get the redux now, but if you want to save $5, you can get this version. Still a fantastic game, redux or not.

Survival becomes the only task at hand as disease, vermin and external threats are ever present. Hope is the only thing more valuable than fire and ammunition.

This is the world of Metro 2033.

Based on the novel Metro 2033 by Russian author Dmitry Glukhovsky, the story is a non-sensical meandering through a fully realized post apocalyptic world built out of crumbling subway lines. The surface is a poisoned wasteland where the air is deadly but the roaming population of mutated animals is worse. Those mutants crawl throughout the darkness below as well.

In order to fully immerse myself in this truly foreign world, I played the game with Russian voices but English subtitles. The ambient soundscape of every station became a chorus of Russian speech, song, and laughter, as the population huddled around fires.

The only currency in the game is military grade ammunition, a scarce but lootable commodity. Light is provided by hand-pumped generators, and travel through fumes and topside necessitates a gasmask and plenty of filters, neither of which are readily available.

Ostensibly a shooter, Metro 2033 is also a surprisingly deep RPG, where resources and loadout can literally determine life and death. An unexpectedly long foray above ground left me literally gasping for air as I reached a checkpoint in one of the most unrelentingly grueling but thrilling pieces of gameplay I have ever experienced.

It is also a stunningly beautiful game, where light is used wonderfully, both in its terrifying absence below ground, and as it blasts through ruined buildings above.

Metro 2033 is a bleak and occasionally overwhelming piece of fiction, leading the player through objectives that are never very clear. There is no endgame, no bigger picture.

You are a small piece of the machine with a single purpose: survive.

This was a hard decision but I feel that I need to give it a thumbs down.

- first 2-3 hours are a blast, the mood is fantastic, something is going on slowly, you are using some junk weapons and everyone is poor and downtrodden
- graphics are nice
- some levels, especially those surface ones are really good
- Volt Driver weapon

- this is only a shooter
- shotguns are useless. Unless you shoot at point-blank or very close range you'll probably miss. Even auto-shotgun is useless
- plot is random and mostly absurd imo - take a pot, throw in there Communist, Nazis, Russians, some mutated post-humans, Hanza trade League, some random NPCs and a few random objectives that you need to follow and we get this game's plot. When I think about it the main character should have absolutely no motivation to risk his life going here and there.
- economy system - if there's an economy system in a linear shooter then there are ways to exploit it. This game is no different
- you find probably the best gun in this game after like 3 hours and there is really no point to change it for the rest of the game
- there are too many cutscenes imo, this breaks the pace of the game
- gets boring at some point

In conclusion - this is by all means a good game. It's just boring past some point and if you're ot a fan of the Metro series then you'll probably have problems with understanding what's going on here. Shooting mutants is fun, but it's all the more fun when you know why you shoot at them. This game lacks this kind of explanation.

To run this game, you need a very high end monitor as this game, no matter WHAT you try, it just keeps stubbornly trying to run itself at a ridiculous resulotion, one that is out of most people's monitors' ranges.

I've sat down and I've tried SO MANY different methods to fix it, but nothing worked.

What happens is when you launch the game it JUST F***KING DISPLAYS A BLACK SCREEN/OUT OF RANGE message.

**I have 12 hours because I've played on my older laptop WHICH WORKED ON IT and the weirder part is this new computer is MANY times stronger than it, monitor included.

My monitor is 1920x1080

What i like about this game is just everything its just so prefect for me. It gives you chances to go either go stealth or rambo in some levels. It allso gives me the creeps, because of the "monsters" and their sounds are just creepy and sometimes terrifying and allso how they act around.
What i allso love with this game is that they balance the fighting betwen you and the monsters and other humens.

The gameplay is nothing to cry about i see noting wrong with it atleast.

The weapons in the game are really nice i like that thay have some "homemade" weapons for more stealth use in the game.

The game overall is just amazing good graphics, Sound Effects, Visuel Effetcs and allso the voice "acting".
And ofcourse the atmospher absoulty love it
"Higly recomended" - Shopekeeper

Overall i give it a 10/10
Good Luck out there Ranger.

My Favorite game of all times. :))))
