De gameplay in Toki Tori is een mix van twee genres. Terwijl het er uitziet als platformspel, is het van binnen een puzzelspel. Om door het spel heen te komen, moet de speler elk ei in een level oppakken door een bepaald aantal werktuigen te gebruiken. Spelers zullen voorzichtig rond moeten kijken en van tevoren hun route moeten plannen terwijl ze voorwerpen zoals de Telewarp, Freeze-o-Matic en InstantRock™ gebruiken. Dit is weer zo een prachtig spel waar je gewoon om 11 uur voor opstaat om te spelen, Ik zelf kan dit spel uren lang spelen en ben opmerkenlijk veel aangetrokken tot de charmante graphics

Where to start? Or should I end already? I had and have a love-hate relationship with this game:

Love: the 2D graphics & environments
Love: the achievements

Love-hate: Very challenging puzzles, which I do love, but I hate the fact that you often have to memorize the (bigger) level maps (with lots of eggs to grab) in order to avoid trial and error (I hate that too);
Love-hate: It's lovely to construct in clever ways, but I hated to come 1/10 inches short many times. I often thought I had solved it the creative way, but it needed to be solved, say, more precisely whereas there was often only 1 way to finish. You couldn't know, unless you had drawn the map and had built the pieces/used the tools on it, or stood still and memorized more = no fun/boring.
Love-hate: (So far) loved approximately 80% of the levels, hated 20% Mostly the Bubble Barrage levels that were annoying; and floating in a bubble? Too slow-paced!

Hate: the music! The OST is way too short! Better turn off the music when you're cracking your brain.

That's it in a nutshell. Both frustration (it's rare for me) and happiness; finishing a level was very rewarding most of the time.
I didn't count any facepalms, but sometimes thought: why so far-fetched?

Simple math: 1.75 + 1.75 + 0.9 + 0.9 + 1.6 - 0.5 = 6.4/10
The irony of an innocent looking bird in an evil game environment.

PS If you don't plan on playing this game, at least check Bubble Barrage: Level 6 > Hard...

This is a puzzle game that looks cartoonish and plays like it would be for very young players ---- and I suppose it could be, but the various levels get extremely difficult as you progress so maybe those levels are for more experienced players.
I'm just not sure if the devs are aiming at a universal audience or not.

But at its heart it is a puzzle game that will require the thinking cap. It features very short levels that are connected only by the fact that the goal is the same in each ---- collect the designated number of eggs within the level. There is no story involved, just get the eggs and move on to the next level.
And that's ok, but after a while it gets a bit boring, for me.
To add to this, the game's pace is super slow. The main character moves slow, and the few enemies I've seen are slow.

The game reminds me of those Super Granny games where she is rescuing her cats ---- in slow motion with no story.

There are many who will see a good amount of appeal here, and the price is good (especially if on sale), so if you find cute, bright, colorful, and very challenging puzzle games to your liking you should check this one out.
Very hard to decide whether to click yes or no on this one ---- but since we all have different tastes in games, I'll recommend it, with reservations, because it's not one that I would personally spend more time with. Maybe the kids.

Plattforms, and Puzzles and Cuteness - Oh My!

Toki Tori has gained some positive Reviews over the time. With a clear and somber justification, this game is fun to play.

It's simple, yet has some challenges to solve, it's cute and nice, even your adversaries look somehow cute.

Meh, cute enough to make me go to the outhouse on a regular basis and get a serious problem with reurgiation - it's too candy sweet and cute for me, yet I do play the game. The programmers made a good game, recycling some old ideas and wrapping them into a nice backstory, with sugar and cinamon sweet candy looks.

You'll getting some help during the run of the game, Ice Cannon, Teleportation, Bridgesegments, Boxes and so on, which you have to use to get your puzzles solved. Oh and you can also grab some achievements while playing the game, some of them are more or less achieved by... well, not challenging tasks, but through trying out how to do some things with the protagonist.

If you failed something, you just could either try to rewind or to retry... though - rewinding is sometimes more fun.

Pros:
  • Nice and Easy, with some challenges - as casual as you wish it to be.
  • Fitting Sound and Graphics.
  • Some funny or cute things that you can do during this game make it lovable.

Cons:
  • It can get enervating over time...

Conclusion: Recommended*

The recomandation is based around the game, the playabillity and some other personal factors. Of course this is a game, which was created with younger children in mind - but it can be fun even for older people. Solving puzzles is always something a person should do, no matter how hard or easy they appear.

On the backside, I have to go now to the dentist, who has to fill up my tusks - this sweetness of the game is like a potent corrosive on my hard and tough outer shell...
