What the developers have to say:

Why Early Access?

“The universe of sportfishing is practically limitless. And as our team is aiming to deliver the most realistic and fun sportfishing experience, we want to use Early Access to get feedback from as many gamers and sportfishing enthusiasts as possible on the earliest stages of our project. We need to know whether you like how the rod bends and if the walleye realistically strikes the lure as it falls, does the twitching retrieve work the way you're used to in real life and tons of other details that are the core of the perfect fishing simulator.
After all, we are making a game that would allow you to use your real-life fishing skills and experience, and for that, want you to be a part of our creation and help us shape this brave new fishing world! All your feedback and opinions count and can make a real difference. Together we will turn Fishing Planet into a Universe of angling excitement and bring this wonderful hobby (perhaps even way of life) to the masses!”

Approximately how long will this game be in Early Access?

“Our main priority is to ensure uncompromised realism of the fishing experience combined with a fun and exciting gameplay, so we intend to use Early Access to polish everything out by fixing any bugs and introducing new features with the help of your feedback. That should take us approximately four months, with a full release planned for November 2015.”

How is the full version planned to differ from the Early Access version?

“While in Early Access, we plan to introduce a number of features to the full version of the game, including:

  • Multiplayer action – online tournaments with personal and team scores, clubs and series.

  • Quests

  • Kayaks and Boats

  • Huge real-life lakes

  • 10+ fish species

What is the current state of the Early Access version?

“Currently the game boasts following features:

  • 32 game fish species, each with its unique behaviors and AI;

  • 7 scenic North American waterways with multiple locations, various climatic conditions, bottom terrains and vegetation;

  • Thousands of tackle combinations available in the game shop. Each with unique physical and hydrodynamic properties; About 300 various tackle and equipment items in our game tackle stores.

  • Superb dynamic water graphics with ripples and surface that changes depending on wind, current and depth;

  • Weather – day/night cycle, change of seasons, different weather conditions (rain, fog, bright sunshine);

  • Achievements, leader-boards and player top lists.

Will the game be priced differently during and after Early Access?

“The game will stay Free to Play but the starter-packs and in-game purchases will cost less in Early Access, in comparison to the final full-version retail prices.”

How are you planning on involving the Community in your development process?

“We will have an intense and fruitful Forum interaction between the development team and the Community as well as weekly Twitch Q&A sessions that help us gather ideas, feedback, and any possible bug issues.
We perceive the Fishing Planets Early Access community as one big family that is helping us shape the game’s evolution and prioritize the development process by giving their votes in support of certain features and ideas. Together we're making this game to let everyone enjoy the excitement of fishing anywhere and anytime!
Join us in our Fishing Planet universe!

About This Game

Fishing Planet is a unique and highly realistic online first-person multiplayer fishing simulator developed by avid fishing enthusiasts for anglers to bring you the full thrill of actual angling! Choose your lures, make your trophy catches, discover new possibilities and sharpen your real angling skills anywhere, anytime with your friends!

The game is FREE to play and just a download away!

Aside from a rare few, there were no decent fishing games created over the whole 30-year history of game development. And not a single one in recent years! Don’t we anglers deserve better than that?

Fishing Planet decided to set this historic injustice right and finally make a game that fishing enthusiasts were waiting for all these years! And according to our Beta Testers, we hit the mark!

Fishing Planet isn’t just another game about fishing. Stunning eye-candy graphics, superb hydro and aerodynamics, realistic tackle behavior and damage based on actual simulation physics and, most importantly, fish with artificial intelligence for completely lifelike behavior make this a true-to-life fishing simulator that can help you improve your actual angling skills!

The combination of unique graphics, realistic game physics and sophisticated AI will bring the realistic world of fishing directly to your computer screen!

Key features:

  • 32+ species of fish, each with its unique behavior and AI.

  • 7 scenic waterways with multiple locations, various climatic conditions, bottom terrains and vegetation.

  • Thousands of tackle combinations with unique physical and hydrodynamic properties.

  • Superb dynamic water graphics with ripples and surface that changes depending on wind, current and depth.

  • Weather – day/night alternation, change of seasons, different weather conditions (rain, fog, bright sunshine)

  • Multiplayer capacity – online tournaments with personal and team scores, system of achievements, leader boards and top-player lists.

What makes us different:

  • Complex AI system for fish behavior that correlates with seasonal and climatic change, time of day, speed of water current, bottom contour and type (color and structure), water and air temperature, wind, etc. Biting/striking reactions for each fish species are completely realistic and natural as well as specifics of lure attacks.

  • Photorealistic graphics – using latest high-end tools for ultimate photo-realism: photogrammetry, all waterways are based on real location.

  • Unique system of game physics and realistic tackle damage – rods, lines and reels break according to their actual individual characteristics. Realistic aero and hydrodynamic environment for lures and retrieves.

  • Dynamic water graphics – splashes, waves and ripples on the water create a fully realistic fishing atmosphere.

  • Weather – change of conditions depending on location, season and time of day. Possibility of sudden rain or sunshine breaking through the clouds.

  • Tournaments and fishing duels – created based on world’s most popular fishing competitions.

It was fun for a while, but it bacame obvious after a few hours that they have tuned thru a recent update to make progress very slow. Low level fish pay a currency based on size. Catching bigger fish pays more currency, but are gated by tackle. This tackle is gated by level. You must pay currency to travel to fishing locations, and for example 220$ to go to the first unlocked lake. It took several hours of irl gametime just to nearly recoup the travel cost. So be prepared for alot of time invested if you want to advance without paying real money. The task is repetitive, based alot on chance, and even your victories aren't really rewarding. All in all i think its tuned to far towards long grind. You'll grow bored before you get to the fun parts. Good luck.

Its a good simulator. I like the game so much even its a PAY TO WIN one till i attempt a tournament. I was on the 2nd place end of the tourney. I don't know how that people were summoned on the ranking after the competition ends. RIGGED TOURNEMENTS ALL THE WAY!

How does one describe fishing planet..

You either love it or you hate it. It's as close to a simulator as one can get.

I would like to see more realism though.. For example anyone who has ever been fishing in North Carolina, Texas, or Missouri would tell you, river banks are never as clean as they are in game.

They almost always have bags of trash, babyshit filled diapers, dead fish and sometimes your occasional hobo under a bridge.

Fishplanet, is a good fishing simulator. There are a lot of good features in this game. Onne thing that would make this game even better, is if there were more locations in the world to fish in E.g Australia for instance, New Zealand, Canada and more international countries. So DVes, pleaes try to add a variety of countries in the game. What also be nice is Steam achievements, that's make it a whole lot better.
If you guys are looking for a different type of game that is calm and relaxing, I would strongly recommend this game. It's a very good open world(Not really open world as of yet) game, and if you're into fishing, I'd probabaly check it out. There should alos be different seasons and didfferent types of weather to fish in.
Overrall 8.5/10 Pretty good

Fishing Planet when it came out was good. Early access, full of glitches and bugs but delivered a fun fishing experience. Then a few months in they started to do choices that were taking a lot of the fun away. Then they recruited moderators left and right "with years of experience"... from where? Guantanamo? If you made an issue public they tended to try talk it away with different excuses, and darn you if you didn't settle with the ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥t they served you. Forum ban. Haven't experienced it myself, but seen quite a few people being banned. Even Castaway_Dave, 1200+ hours in the game and probably one of the nicest guys in the game, have been banned for making a point of a huge glitch concerning weather patterns in Michigan and going into inventory and VOILA weather has changed.....! They decided that better he goes then fixing the code.
Enough said. Read the pros and cons and decide forr yourself.

Pros:
- It's a fishing game
- graphics

... sadly list ends there

Cons:
- Never ending list of bugs and glitches

- Staff, support staff and forum moderators are probably the most unsympathetic and unprofessional people you will ever experience in a "mmo" game out there. (Can be useful to experience as a reference for future games)

- Forum moderators engage in discussions and tend to ban if they don't agree with you, or if you make the public aware of issues that they don't whant anyone to know about. (just a couple of examples)

- Oh and if they read this post they will surely do their outmost to get it removed or otherwise respond to it in kind to these "unfair" charges.

I havn't played as much as I'd like to but I definitely like this game and enjoy it a lot.
It seems a little limited unless you put a few bucks in making in-game purchases but I've learning how to do more without micro transactions being necessary to have more fun.

The game reminds me of The Hunter in many ways which is one of my favorite games and a similar F2P simulation game but hunting instead of fishing. I feel like if they took some notes from that game and made a few changes then they would really have something worthwhile.

If you enjoy fishing but can't get out all the time or afford a licence then this game is for you. If you want to get into fishing then this game is a really nice tool as well.

I put alot time and effect into this game, and waiting for some added content that was actually beneficial to the game it self. right now there are rods for casters that are still not able to be used to their potential due to lack of weight on lures or sinkers still not in the game. yet the devs just want to focus on esport aspect and not care if the game itself becomes more more horrible. you can easily reach end game in 1 week, level 21 is all you truely have to get up to before you realize just how crappy the game becomes.

PROS:
visuals 9/10 still has a glitch from time to time but nothing game breaking and reminds me of the 70's
early game 9/10 really fun for the first 18 levels but a little grindy

CONS:
devs focused on the wrong spots to develop the game properly
their bug report is just crap, i once reports a bad bug and was told not to watch youtube, when i used youtube to post the video of the bug
end game comes early and quick

overall was great when i first started player, now i get on for 10 seconds once a month just to see if they finally brought out the stuff that was coming out "soon" still ben atleast 3-4 monthes and none of that soon is here...But they still want to focus on the esports competition stuff while game is no where near where it needs to be

I have been pc gaming for 30 years, at least. Last time I had played a game so addictive was when the first silent hunter came out.
Let me be plain about it.. this is the best game , of any genre , i have played in many years. Who needs summer with the bugs and heat when you have this? the graphics are awesome, the fishing is extremely realistic, but graduated for newbies, The locations are varied as are the fish at each location.

The community in chat is one of the highlights of the game. I have yet to run in to more than a couple of a holes... everyone helps everyone,,high level to low. ( except in a tourney..lol). And you NEED them,,, there are many hidden ways and tricks to get high level fish ( Trophies, and " Unique"). Youtube has many videos ( some good, some bad), that can help but i prefer hunting on my own..but sometimes it 's a grind, But the chat community is golden, as i said.

The only suggestion I have would be to have a guide to at least tell you how and where to catch a unique or trophy species.. especially for newer players. Otherwise the only way to find them is if someone tells you the special spot, time of day, and bait to catch tmem with. But an outstanding game overall... AND ITS EARLY ACCESS!!! truly worth a few bucks for the DL'cs and soe gold and exp, boosts. Amazing gaming experience!

Started playing 8/11/2015 and enjoyed it until the level 17 grind but other than that it is worth it, also worthy of at least a $20 bill. If you are looking to just start and catch big fish this game is not for you!

This is actually fun. Not to mention free, giving you the gear you need to fish the big fish, there is also dlc's of course. Like any other game you have to level up, and when you do you recieve the better gear.. OR spend what you have now and get an odd achievement but an achievement never the less; ha ha You will be broke but you will get back to your game just as fast as you lost it. Community seems to be of an older nature to an extent and you can always friend people in game instead of in steam another bonus i think. Im hoping the Dev's allow us to use minnows we catch as bait, using a storage kit or something like converting them to small cut bait would be great. I Hunt and fish in real life and this is a good enough game to play with your friends. Fish on!!

While this game is far from perfect it is one of the best fishing games out there. The game is very grindy but it can be a lot of fun. It's definitely not a game that appeals to a wide audience, but those of you who have played other fishing games I think will find this one pretty good. It's not an exciting game and doesn't have the same level of interaction that many MMO's do, but if you are looking for a casual way to relax and catch some fish than this will probably fit the bill nicely for you.

Pros:
-No one way to catch a fish
-Casual pacing and style
-Great graphics
-Stable
-Simple interface
-Great variety of lures so far

Cons:
-Very Grindy
-Repetitive
-Basically a single player game with chat
-Not a lot of reason to chat with other players except to get help on fishing setups
-In-game music needs a lot of love.
-No true bottom fishing
-Not enough GUI flexibility yet

I'd consider this game to be in the middle of beta as far as content and bugs. It has a few key features still missing and a lot hammering, but can be enjoyable for those playing now. They have a lot of features still to add that are planned. I do wish that the patch cycle would speed up a bit.

A great game, with a great community, however a horrible moderator who doesn't believe in or allow freedom of expression within Forums.

The Good:
Good graphics with varied fishing locations and species of fish. There are plenty of fish to be caught and plenty of locations to catch them, the developers have done a good job of try to emmerse you in the game play.
Great community, every time that I have had a problem or not understood things the other players have taken their time to help give advice, point me in the right direction, and in general to be pleasant and helpful.
Game play, at first things can be a little confusing and even a little over whelming in the choices or rod, reels, baits, lures hooks, etc..,, however with a little effort and a few questions asked a person can have a well balancd set up and be catching trophy fish and unique fish.

The Bad.
No freedom of speech within the forums. Even if your post violates none of the Steam Rules or the rules of Fishing Planets forums the modrator refuses to allow open and honrst debate regarding the game or any problems encountered while playing the game. If it varies from his opinion you will be banned.
Sounds, the sounds seemed canned and antiquated. The dove sounds like a whistle kids make by blowing into their hands.
Not enough communication from developers. Not much more can be said on this topic. without communications the user feels left out and abandoned.

Synopsis. A very good game that is fun to play and a great break from blowing stuff up all the time. After a long days work the game is a great way to relax and enjoy fishing at home. Whether you buy content or use what you are awarded as you level up, the game is a blast. The best gaming community I have seen in a very long time. Definitely worth the time to check out.
