Shift Happens is a cooperative platformer for two. You and a friend shift your mass, throw each other and puzzle your way through four stages of stylized imaginary worlds. Including the occasional backstabbing and taunting. Play with a friend on a couch, online or even special singleplayer levels.

What the developers have to say:

Why Early Access?

“Shift Happens is our first full-scale PC game. The funding is secured, the game is almost feature complete and we are adding content as you are reading this. As a newcomer to the game-biz, we are in need of feedback and sanity checks for the product: Is it fun? How can we make it even more enjoyable?

We decided not to go through a publisher, as this project is our baby and we wanted to keep making our own decisions. Although the game is not an open-world sandbox game, we think Early Access is a good fit to help us make a better game than with just us making decisions. We are a small studio and listening to player-feedback directly instead of market analysis by an anonymous publisher makes much more sense to us.”

Approximately how long will this game be in Early Access?

“We are aiming to launch the game in early 2017.”

How is the full version planned to differ from the Early Access version?

“The Early Access version will have increasing content from patch to patch. The content will be added as we develop the game, with EA players being able to play some of the “forgotten” and “rejected” levels during development. Those levels may make it into the final version, but Early Access players in any case will get access during development.
The final version will include one additional stage consisting of the final story levels, which won’t be part of Early Access so you guys have a little surprise at the end. Also the final release will be performance optimized and hopefully bug-free.”

What is the current state of the Early Access version?

“See our latest News & Updates

Will the game be priced differently during and after Early Access?

“Early Access is priced below our full-price, to reward you for your trust, investment and feedback.”

How are you planning on involving the Community in your development process?

“We are very much relying on the feedback of experienced players, as this is our first full-blown PC title. Although the core game mechanics are complete, we still need input when it comes to details and the feel of the game. We have been working on the game for almost two years and are looking forward to having a few pairs of external extra eyes reviewing Shift Happens.
The steam forums will be our main feedback focal point, but we will be live-streaming some development and are looking forward to feedback on these channels as well.”

Happy Valentines Day!

Happy Valentines Day everyone!
Although we said we are not going to have another update, we wanted to make a small Valentines Special.

Robin and Elena modelled special hats for Valentines Day during a livestream session and we put them in the game: Game Dev Stream in german
We believe Shift Happens is the perfect game for couples, families, friends, lovers and everyone that enjoys couch co-op. So obviously we have to celebrate Valentines Day in Shift Happens!

Enjoy this small little update, be excited about our release on February 22nd and spread your co-op love with our special co-op heart <2.

We created a small site where we listed all existing hats that can be unlocked in the game:
Unlockable Hats

Small Demo Update
On another note, we updated our demo site, because it was very much outdated!

Release: February 22nd! Finally making Shift Happen!

Release!
I can't believe I am actually writing these words but we have a final release date for Shift Happens:
February 22nd, which is roughly one week after Valentines Day.

We couldn't be happier about it! Therefore I'd like to point out again that we are very grateful for everyone that supported us by either buying the game in Early Access, giving us feedback, writing a review or simply telling us that they like it.
Considering that Shift Happens most certainly wasn't an ideal type of game for an Early Access title (linear playthrough, depending on lots of content, very co-op), we still think it was good to put it out there and have the players take a look. We also learned a lot by going through the process and will take that experience into consideration for future projects.
We hope you are as excited as we are and are looking forward to the 22nd.

Livestream today
We will also have a livestream @ CET 7pm with Nora, our character artist and Simon our Shader/FX and 3D Art guy today on twitch creating some new hats for the game.

Cheers,

Team of Klonk

Reviews

“Shift Happens could very well be the next big plattformer”
Hardcoregamer

“Shift Happens focuses its co-op efforts on local couch play designed to capture that core essence of cooperative puzzle solving. You know, the old "help your buddy out so he can help you later but maybe you'll splat him against an electric barrier from time because, you know, friendship."”
Co-Optimus

About This Game

The two jello jelly creatures Bismo and Plom got connected in a tragic yet funny accident and thus can exchange their size and abilities at will. Welcome to the world of Shift Happens - the only game out there which doesn't take a closer look at the body mass index and where players are actually forced to work togehter (and occasionally stab each other in the back).

Experience thrilling adventures in four totally different worlds:
  • Explore a freaked out laboratory where Bismo and Plom had their accident!
  • Uncover the secrets of the overgrown green forests...
  • ... and survive the dry canyons where a deadly wind awaits you...
  • ... just to prepare you for the bitingly cold caves!

The twist: Shift Happens is pure fun for solo players, yet its full potential can only be experienced together. Play it with your best friend while hanging around on a couch enjoying a pizza. Together you can solve puzzles and fight over precious coins. Coordination and communication are key to a successful journey. We recommend using gamepads for maximum enjoyability™.

The game also features a singleplayer mode with different level content. Although the game is primarily meant to be played by two people, you can play the completely different singleplayer levels without another person.

The game features all the good things you should expect from a co-op platformer:
  • Over 40 levels of handcrafted fun
  • Local and online co-op gameplay
  • Extra challenges/rewards in the levels for completionists and explorers
  • More than 30 different levels designed for the singleplayer mode
  • 8 unlockable bonuslevels (4 single- & 4 multiplayer)
  • Achievements
  • And timechallenges for each level
