Excellent game and one of the best single player titles in recent times.

You can probably split the appeal of this game into two categories-

Gameplay
Story/atmosphere

Gameplay-
Combat: Addictive and great fun, easy to use but difficult to master.
Predator (Stealth): Incredible fun, you really feel like batman stealthily wiping out hapless henchmen one by one. Possibly a bit too easy when you get good at it. However they made it harder but ruined it (imo) in the later titles.

Both elements make you feel like Batman when you pull them off, which is just so damn awesome. There's not too much more to say about them, but the hours of fun they provide cannot be understated.

Story/Atmosphere-
Amazing. This is not an open world game like the later titles and from my perpective actually benefits massively from it. The story is dark and mature and the 'feel' of the game is oppressive and even scary at points, this feels much more impactful than swinging around Arkham City and randomly dropping in to beat some thugs to pulp (which is entertaining, but ultimately feels much more like GTA and the masses of other titles which emulate it). This recreation of batman is better than all the film versions, and damn, that Kevin Conroy Batman voice is perfect.

If I had to criticise, then my first target would be the bosses, especially the poor final boss which mostly seem to be copy pasted across the game in a predictable mould. Don't get me wrong, the titan fights are great. I just wish that there was more variety and more good stuff.

Overall this is a very good game, I would argue that if you are a remotely a batman fan (I wasn't) you should definitely get it. If not it applies to anyone who wants to sink some hours into an absorbing story and experience the thrill of being batman.

Wam, biff, and kapow your way through hordes of freaks as you try to uncover a mystery that actually ends up being really dumb and predictable. Basically Die Hard if you replaced John McClane with Batman and set it in a prison. If you ever wanted to crawl through a dirty asylum beating the snot out of inept goons, then look no further. It can be a bit jank at times, but that's part of the experience.

Good fun, combat is ok, collectathon is good, platforming is weak.

My main two gripes are lack of minimap and excesive backtracking.

To me, having played City and Origins as well, this is the definitive game in the series. Where City and Origins felt sparse to me, this was always full of excitement. Lot's of boss battles, stealth and action sessions all the way.

+ COMBAT! The combat in this game is spectacular!
+ Graphics
+ PhysX - Leaves, papers, rocks moves very naturally. This killed my system back then, but smooth as butter now.
+ Story
+ Voice acting
+ Runs smooth and bug free (I'm looking at you City, Origins and Arkham Knight)

- Riddler trophies - Didn't really care for them, more combat please!
- Travelling around the island was a bit of a chore, that is where City and Origins improved greatly

This must be the fourth time I've finished this game and I enjoyed it just as much. Got a non Steam version a long time ago and had pleasant memories about it, glad nostalgia wasn't the only thing making me enjoy this game again. Simply superb!

Next up I will be giving Arkham Knight a go, apparently the bugs are now fixed. Let's hope for the best!

It's not bad, the actual story itself felt kind of short though, and before I knew it I'd already cleared the main story.

Good gameplay, nice visuals, okay story, great voice acting.

Negatives: not so much replayability.

No bust seriously, great game.

Arkham Asylum is the first arkham game, which came out in 2009. It's a simple 3rd-person action game that introduced the best combat system for a video game that had both rhythm, fluidity, and challenge. It also introduced a stealth mechanic that made you truly feel like batman, while keeping with balance so you aren't too overpowered. The game features awesome voice work by Kevin Conroy, Mark Hamill, and Arleen Sorkin and a great story as well.

Pros:
+Fun campaign to play through
+challenges
+voice talent
+groundbreaking combat and stealth
+detective work

Cons:
-mediocre boss fights

Amazing gameplay! Its a must play for any Batman fan! The action is alot of fun and really keeps you going. The flow of the game is perfect! If this game comes on sale you would be insane not to buy it. This has very in depth graphics. The voice acting in it is awesome! The cut scenes are very fun to watch. There are hidden secrets throughout the game that you can get if you so desire. The game has extra things in like like "Challenge mode" were you are challenged with different things to do. This game is a must have if ever loved the comic book character of Batman. It is a 10/10 game! Get it and you wont regret it!

The story in the this game is phenomenal and the combat is simple but sweet. So many game mechanics to learn and an island of Batmans villains to fight. The voice acting it great in the game and every villain is written so well. There is something to be said when the games writting is better than the current DC movies released. Even if you are not a Batman this game will turn you into one.

You learn a lot of background story of the characters and it is a nice starting poing to access the Batman Universe. However the fights might get boring a bit quick and boss fights are kinda meh. It doesn't have much replayability either.
