What the developers have to say:

Why Early Access?

“With Debugger 3.16 my goal is to create a game which is entertaining on one side. On the other one it is also a project which gives users the chance to learn the basics of game programming.
There are many ways to learn coding and people use different script languages and engines to make games. It would be great to hear both the opinions of programmers and non-programmers in order to create a new effective and easy way to help people creating their very own games!”

Approximately how long will this game be in Early Access?

“The goal is to perform a full release at the end of the year. However, this will depend on the feedback and how huge these feedbacks will impact the development.”

How is the full version planned to differ from the Early Access version?

“At the moment the game offers you three worlds of five. While time goes by, the other worlds will be added and after finishing Early Access you can of course play the whole game. There will be also more achievements in the final game.”

What is the current state of the Early Access version?

“At the moment you can play three different worlds of five. The basics like graphics, sounds, animation, movement, fighting, jumping, bugs (maybe also real bugs) and of course the input command function are included. You can already have fun with game but in order to complete it you would have to wait until the other worlds are included. I'm working hard to make sure that your save-slots will be compatible with all further updates but I cannot guarantee it.”

Will the game be priced differently during and after Early Access?

“As long as the game is in Early Access I'm offering everbody who wants to make this project a success at least a discount of about 20% of the final price. If you report bugs and language mistakes you can also win a free Steam game of your choice - see the posting in the forum for further information.”

How are you planning on involving the Community in your development process?

“You can give me your feedback on my social media profiles but it would be great if you do it directly on Steam. I will check the forum here mostly every day and if you like the idea of this project, please become a part it! At the moment I cannot say how huge the feedback for this project will be. But I want to tell you right from the start that I'm programming this game all on my own (beside the shader programming), so please forgive me if I cannot include every wish or feedback into the game.”

Update EA1.113 is online!

With this update some things are changing regrading the controls:
Many people didn't liked that shooting the laser was on "SPACE". Now it is on "SHIFT" or "CTRL". Jumping is now "SPACE".

If you now want to open the help texts of the codes, you will have to use F1-F9. If you're using a laptop you maybe have to use the "FN" key too.

To exit the hacking menu you now have to use "ESC".

Quadrant 9 is now a liitle bit easier.

The loading time when entering a new quadrant has been decreased.

BUG FIX: The boss in q10 sometimes didn't moved up again.
BUG FIX: Sometimes Debugger 3.16 was pushed through a closed door in q10.
BUG FIX: There was the possibility in q10 to move the open-source block outside the level meaning that you could not defeat the boss.
BUG FIX: Sometimes the GameOver screen was not showing up when falling into poisen water.

The space world still need some time, stay tuned for more infos soon!

Update EA1.111

A new update is online!

This update...

... is adding the second part of the boss fight with the evil Dr. Q - I think this is the hardest level in the game - don't enter it unprepared! ;)

...gives you a new function: undo();
If you ever moved a block to a wrong place, just call this function to move it back.

... is fixing the zoom level of the camera. If you now switch to another level or load a game, the zoom level will be the same.

... is deleting some real bugs:
-> sometimes the Debugger was damaged even if he was protected
-> problems with hitting bugs with low fps
-> quadrant 29 was not marked as bug free even it was
-> wrong hit radius of the explosing bugs in the desert

I hope you enjoy it... For next month i'm planning to complete and release the next game world which is waiting for your help. This game is called "Star Cheetah" :)

Happy gaming everyone!

About This Game

Your keyboard is the strongest weapon in this puzzle/action platformer while you're helping the Debugger 3.16 to find and delete all errors and bugs in the latest game of its developer. Use program code to manipulate objects, foes and even the Debugger 3.16 itself.

Hello human user!

My name is Debugger 3.16, I’m a debug program and I need YOUR HELP to find and delete all BUGS in the newest game of my developer, Mr. Schaefer. PLEASE HELP!

I’m the 316th version of debug functions created by Mr. Schaefer. However, my predecessors had been lost in the endless scripts of Mr. Schaefers program or MUTANTED TO BUGS… :(

I don’t want to be tranformed in such a brainless creature - that’s the reason I’m asking you today to help me. A scan of your Steam achievements showed me that you have enough experience to guide me through the DARK CYBERSPACE and the different game worlds Mr. Schaefer created.

I’ll show you some tricks of my world - we’ll hack objects and delete our foes with program code! Don’t worry, you don’t need any programming skills, I’ll teach you everything you have to know step by step.

My developer is not the best programmer in the world so we have to deal with thousands of bugs, but with such a talented gamer like you we should be able to do it.

  • Experience twisted puzzle action in a huge, dangerous cyberworld!

Discover different game worlds and save all the 315 predecessor of the Debugger 3.16 which mutanted to bugs or got trapped

  • Thousands of bugs to deal with!

Fight against small bugs, big bugs, shooting bugs, intelligent bugs, not so intelligent bugs, spewing bugs, bugs with one eye, bugs with more then one eye, king bugs, queen bugs and even evil boss bugs

  • Learn and use program code to overcome your foes and stay alive!

You don't need any coding skills, the Debugger 3.16 will show you everything you need to know step by step

  • Meet the developer of the game!

Yes, that's right, from time to time you will see the developer and you will also hear his voice (don't know if this a good thing x°)

  • Use the learned things to program your own game!

You’ll get access to a step-by-step tutorial which shows you how to program a small game right from the start. Most functions used in that tutorial are similar to the ones in the main game so it’s much easier for you to master them

Here're the thoughts of some Steam users:

"I LOVE the command input! Wonderful, will buy!"

"I like the art style keep it going!"

"Computer Themed with some comedy. :) Epic Throw in some easter eggs. Reminds me of ole school gaming :) "

"Oh excellent! As a web developer I want it! Just fun to debug in a game, but in a shooter game! I ever wanted shot my bugs with a gun! :)"

"This is such a great concept. I have a feeling this will instill a curiousity for programming in people or children who have never tried it."

"Watched the video, now wantwantwantwantwant."

This game is made...

  • ... for all who want to play a puzzle-platformer of the other kind
  • ... for all who want an easy access into the world of game programming (you don't need previous knowledge)
