Alternate Windows Build

Hey there, in response to a lot of people being unhappy with rpgmaker's limitations we've put up an alternate build that's using the same engine as the Linux and Mac ports.

This should alleviate at least some of the issues that people encountered, like not being able to take screenshots or the steam overlay not working.

Read the forum post for further information and instructions on how to try it out:

Surreal, dark, and sometimes funny. This was surprisingly worth the price during the sale, anyone who's looking for a turn-based rpg should try this out, it's full of great content.

Within not even 2 hours, this game has absolutely caught my attention.

For what may seem to be a lazy, Mother or even an OFF copycat, I've found that little black text box's have pulled at my heart strings just as the amazing dialogue in a Telltale game can. The characters are alive, the situations are realistic and the comic relief is grotesquely hilarious.

The combat is what really pulled me in, it resembles that of your typical RPG but puts a unique twist in which you have four main buttons that will be used for specific characters and attacks. Within these moves, you can perform combo's to cause status effects or just more, general damage. Absolutely addicting and satisfying.

The soundtrack is sporadic in terms of how much it changes, but is amazing. I couldn't help but find myself groove to the hip hop beat I heard as I beat the hell out of a wild dog that had chased a man in a dress up a tree... Yeah.

The sad flaw of the game is that it has a fair amount of bugs and glitches. The thing that counters this however is that the devs are extremely friendly, cooperative and enjoy listening to us consumers for our feedback.

Overall, A nice 8/10. The bugs and glitches should be fixed soon enough, so maybe wait a week or two for them to be fixed.

As has probably been said often by now if you loved the original Earthbound/Mother you will love this; not to say that is a clone of those games, Lisa is a powerful story & a great experience in it's own right. Highly recommended.

If you took several classic rpgs, including Earthbound, Xenogears (combo combat), Suikoden, and others, poured them into a blender with a seriously heavy dose of dark insanity, this is what oozes out at the end. I've had a ton of fun with the game so far, and would recommend it to anybody who enjoyed old RPGs and isnt too concerned about delving into some dark, dark morality and humor.

I don't normally write reviews, but I just couldn't resist writing one for this game!

Two words: "absolutely fantastic". I honestly can't even remember the last time I've played a game that left me this... Satisfied. Yes, it can be difficult in some areas, some fights are harder than others, so it definitely earns its title of "a painful RPG"! (Nothing a little grinding could not fix, though) "Painful" is just the start of it, honestly. You think you're safe to have a rest in this little tent a stranger so generously offered to you? Think again! A multitude of things might happen - you might get beaten, harassed, molested, or a secret admirer might leave you a present. Decided to take a break under the starlit sky, after that one difficult fight? Well, I hope you'll be glad to hear that one of your comrades got kidnapped for ransom. What will you do now? Pay the ransom? Or abandon your battle brother to the tides of destiny? It's all up to you.

This game, while unforgiving in some aspects, almost always gives you a choice. (Some of these so-called "roadblocks" can be a bit disheartening, but they add to the overall plot quite nicely) Each area is unique and filled with a different cast of characters! Some depressed, some angry and aggresive, some down-right weird and perverted. While some recruitable characters do not have a lot of dialogue tied to them, they're all unique in their own way, with a little backstory behind each of them.

Exploration is always rewarded. Of course, it depends on your definition of "reward" - a worthy enemy to test your mettle against, or perhaps a hidden treasure in one of the darkest recesses of a cave? Who knows, you might discover something you'd never have expected to find! It's just so pleasant to see a lot of small, intricate details dotted around the different locations.

This game also gives off a very nice Earthbound-esque vibe - from the characters and the presentation of the areas, down to the music. While the soundtrack is probably not something you'd listen to on any given regular day, it adds to the game's atmosphere incredibly well.

So, all in all, don't be afraid! Put on your time-worn poncho, gather your most trusted allies and embark on a painful quest of self-discovery, violence, perversion, drugs, craziness and most importantly - skin.

Let me open by saying that I don't feel very often, but playing this game was one of the rare times that I did.

LISA, the painful RPG, could very easily be my favourite game of 2014. This heart-wrenching rollercoaster of an RPG is a must play by anyone. I mean anyone. Here's why;

Gameplay LISA is a 2D multi-level sidescroller. The controls and movement are fluid and, I found, even enable you to play almost the entire game with one hand. The game utilises a battle system similar to that found in the popular Mother/Earthbound series and plays just as well, if not better, due to a shining feature. I mean, of course, the special input system. Certain characters give you the option to deal extra damage by way of a combo achieved by punching out the command for your special abilites much as you would in a fighting game (kind of). LISA gives you quite a pool of party members to collect and combine on your journey, as well as gives the choices you make at important junctions have a profound effect on the rest of the game. This makes replayability fairly high.
Visual Dingaling Games does a fantastic job at creating a very real-feeling atmosphere. The primary palletes consist of drab & muted colours, which really give the game a dusty, sandy, dystopian apocalypse mood. The character sprites are always interesting and never out of place, and a select few are surprisingly truly frightening given the tools and limitations at hand. The gore is gorey, the sunlight is bright and the game is beautiful.
Audio LISA's soundtrack is a prime example of aural engineering to set a specific mood, in perfect synchronisation with the visuals. It would be hard to explain exactly how, playing the game is the best proof of this. What I can say is that it never tries too hard. The music ranges from sparse and haunting to lax and calming, all the way around to heavy and even goofy. I will soon purchase the soundtrack, no doubt. SFX is minimal in many areas, but never out of place. Some of it is actually terrifying.
Overall LISA is one of the best games I've ever played. Period. The feels of Mother 3, the goofy satire and humour of Earthbound, the power to make you question your morals, the ability to make you hate, love and sympathise with the protagonist all at the same time. All this and more, the game boasts, as well as a remarkable amount of content which makes the replayability of LISA incredibly viable. Must play.

10/10 for real.

John Walker walked off a cliff at the start of the game and wrote a salty review on RPS about it. 10/10.

In all seriousness this is a great game. I've only put a few hours in and I've fallen in love with the game. It's like Mad Max with a dash of Monty Python for comic relief.

So far I've slayed villains, mutants, snakes and shadowy figures using home-brew karate, firebombs, smack talk and flying headbutts. Love it.

I can't wait to finish the story.

An incredible game on its own merit, a godly game by the standards of RPGMaker games.

Just a heads up to beginners, don't collect items at the beggining of the game, you will get robbed; wait until after the first ultimatum before collecting items. Do not fill your empty bottles with gasoline, soup or anything valuable until after Buzzo's third ultimatum, he will rob you of all your items at this time. Avoid snakes, they can poison you and they only dole out 200 experience points; shadowy figures will drop items like jerky and diet coke frequently although they dole out lower experience points. Always save your game before sleeping in public [campfire]. Do not sleep when a character is poisoned, they will abandon your group.

Such an amazing game.
Art style is like a 2D-Mature Earthbound.
You are faced with a few choices that will impact you throughout the rest of the game.
There's an amazing soundtrack, and 9+ hours of gameplay

The fact that this was made in RPGMaker is amazing.

LISA is one of the few games that can accuratly blend humor and muture themes, without being to campy or too dark. If you like games like Earthbound, you'll definatly like this game.

Pros
-Great art style
- Fantastic soundtrack
- Fun, non-repetitive gameplay, (which is hard for RPGs to master).
-Well Written Dialoge
-Good sense of humor

The only Con that I can think of that may bother people is that the game punishes you for resting at areas that fully restores your party by; having party members get kidnapped by other gangs, taking away some of your currency, or having members abandon you, though this only happens sometimes. However, this detail is more of an inconvience than a real issue.

10/10 one of the best games I've played.
Awesome soundtrack, genius artstyle, funny, quirky, disturbing, messed up.....really well written.

The world is really well realized...it's one of few games that gives you a sense of it being a real place. Combat is similar to Earthbound but with directional input commands.

I don't know what else to say...the whole thing was insane. Just buy it so he can do more games.
