The world of Leviathan is very dark and unforgiving. Under the glitter aritocrats hide foul secrets and the longer we play, the more we uncover. Nothing is white or black, nothing is as simple, as it looks at first glance. Everyone hides something and seem to use main character for their own goals.

The game itself feels like a prologue for some bigger scheme. It sets up the world, introduces us to the foul ways it works and prepares the stage for something that can possibly change it, for better or for worse. What starts as teens revenge quest ends forcing many hidden players to make their moves. Power plays that go behind the scenes seem really interesting, but all we see through the eyes of our young protagonists are mostly the consequences. That's why sometimes it is hard to understand what was really going on. I love how the complexity of the world slowly unfurls, but we don't get all the answers. The scene is set for a bigger performance and I hope we will be able to play it in the next installment.

I loved the graphics and character designs, as well the characters. Kael has won my heart and I would love to see more of him. It is sad that I couldn't find any romantic content that included him, although the game didn't seem to be prude (there were some romantic options inlcuding girls and it mentiond incest relatonship, possibly some sexual abuse too). Although there appeared to be conversation that sets up MC sexual orientation early on but it didn't seem to matter later in the game, which is sad as Kael was the sweetest boy and best friend one can have (and he went through a lot of s**t because of our protagonist). I really feel for him and hope to meet him again in the next installment.

The game itself is mostly linear, would love to see more locations and sometimesi felt that the choices didn't matter too much. Although we can keep our MC pure or turn to evil (the world of Leviathan is foul and for every choice there is a pretty high price to pay), but other than that there is not too much when it comes to characte development.

English is not my native language but I saw some typos and sometimes the sentences were a bit weird, but it didn't bother me too much.

As for replayability value, there are more choices I would like to explore as they may provide more hints and new information about the world and its characters.

You're playing Oliver Vertran, a descendant of a noble family, trying to solve the riddle of the demise of his family while being corrupted by dark powers.

The story and world design is sublime, the art is beautiful, voice acting is good and this is probably the most fun betrothal between visual novel and point and click adventure I have ever played so far.

What would you do if your mother's murderer ends up becoming your guardian?

A dark fantasy world that is ravaged by a disease called Decade, which is caused by a monsterious being called The Plague King. No one knows when the Decade will begin, but it last for 10 years, precisely. The disease isn't a threat to noble families that possess noble blood, so they can live their peaceful lives without having to worry about getting sick.

Oliver Vertran was a young boy when the Decade began, being a noble-born, he's not affected by the disease. His life isn't all peaceful and boring, after witnessing his mother being murdered, he becomes the adopted son of her murderer. And together with his childhood friends, he seek to punish his adoptive father, but will he be able to punish someone who he cares deeply for?

+ The story and the characters are interesting and really pulls you in.
+ The character design is stunning.
+ It's a Visual Novel mixed with point-and-click.

+/- The last chapter, like many others have mentioned, is very rushed.
It leaves you with a lot of questions, hopefully some of them will be answered in the sequel.

- The text speed is very annoying, especially since sometimes it's really slow and other times
it's super fast. It's very easy to miss text and I couldn't find any way to change the text speed!

This game surprised me in a good way and I really enjoyed it. You can see that it took some time for the writers to get the story down, but it plays out quite nicely and your decisions as Oliver (protagonist) impact the outcome. I love the production design (characters, steampunk motif, backgrounds and soundtrack) and the tranlsation from Russian to English comes across really well with few errors. There is one elephant in this room, for me, though; there is an 'almost-sex scene' and I found this awkward as all get out. I think it could have been said without being shown, and it devalued the game a little in my opinion, which is a shame because the rest of it is awesome. ****

I wish you could leave a neutral rating. It wasn't a bad game but it went to some weird places that makes me reluctant to "recommend" it. For example, it is possible to find yourself on a quest to get nude pictures of your sister and one of your friends. Your friend is male and your sister is well YOUR SISTER. After you complete the quest, the pictures of your friend are gone but the ones of your sister are there on your phone forever. What kind of creepy freak keeps naked pictures of his sister? (To be fair, the pictures aren't actually nudes but in the reality of the game they are supposed to be and that was weird enough for me) You have no say in this behavior, by the way, if you are on this quest, you cannot ask a girl who is not your sister and you cannot delete her photos from your phone. The weirdest part is how casual the game is about these things. They happen without explanation. I have 30+ playtime hours because I replayed it to see if you can avoid these sorts of occurrences. I was able to find an alternate to the above spoiler. However, I am fairly sure that the game makes your character masturbate to a picture of his dead mother before you an advance the plot. It is also impossible to avoid seeing your character express a desire to ♥♥♥♥ a woman .

Otherwise, the game has the expected violence and mild awkward sexuality that you can expect in the game. Qualities that I feel were well reflected in the content rating. Overall, it's a decent game. I just couldn't think of anyone that I could recommend it to without warning them about some of the content. It wasn't at all what I would call graphic, just extremely off-putting .

I've played a lot of visual novels and this is one of the best. Ending is questionable though! Hope they make a sequel to explain things properly!

I immensely enjoyed this slightly grotesque, victorian, fantasy, detective, mystery story! It isn't some cheap hidden object game, under a detective theme. Actual choice making, and cognitive thinking is involved, without making it too convoluted.

The world paints a very interesting picture, but leaves a lot of questions, and the ending is really open, lacking satisfaction a bit. Still looking forward to the sequel.

A full price might be a little too much, but definitley worth on sale.

DISCLAIMER: This is NOT some anime dating simulator, these ♥♥♥♥♥es won't fall for you just because you are the main character. Romance at your own risk. You've been warned!

This was otherwise pretty damn good, but I didn't like the point where the story ended. Sure a sequel has already been confirmed, but this doesn't say 'Chapter 1' in the title, so it would have been better to put a better resolution in this game and then continue from there in the next one.

Apart from that, this is a very cool technomagic adult oriented Harry Potter / Phoenix Wright combination. You actually have to do things to move the story along and there are even a couple of puzzles, so this isn't just a digital picture book like most visual novels. These parts are pretty easy, though, so this won't satisfy someone who wants a real point & click game, but I like this style a lot better than kinetic visual novels.

A narrative/visual novel adventure game that I'm very happy to see finally released on Steam--a fact I'm hoping will give it some much-needed exposure.

The script is very well-written, the characters are deep, the choices made throughout the story have significant consequences, the art style is incredible and the story itself is surprisingly complex and full of ethical quandaries.

This is one of those rare indie gems where you can see a metric F-ton of love was put into it by its developers.

If you're a fence-sitter, the first chapter/episode is available on its official website. Give it a try, get hooked and fall in love with a very unqiue setting.

I honestly can't recommend this game enough.

Here's hoping the developers go on to do great things and that this universe will continue to exist in future games.

Leviathan is an extremely unique visual novel, with a detailed story and deep world building.

The visuals are very well done, with detailed scenery, charming pop outs and animated transitions, and animated story board elements. Even the menu design builds on the world in the story.

The music and audio feels bang on. Right at the opening credits, the music builds a dark but comic atmosphere.

One minor complaint I have is that wayfinding would be very hard without toggling on the hot point overlay. Fortunately you can toggle this one and off very easily without leaving the scene.

If you enjoy visual novels, I highly recommend checking this out!

What a pleasant surprise that game was! Really enjoyed the story, setting and unique art. Dont be fooled by screenshots may which remind you any generic "hidden object" game. This game is pure visual novel! Okay, not pure since there are point&click-anventure elements, but this makes game even better. Oh and 18+ rating is not just for show. Your dialogue choices matters and define the ending you'll get. Story, however, is not fully "completed", ending does not feel completly satisfying. and there's a lot room to explore both in story and in the world. Definetly looking forward for sequel which, hopefully, will be released soon, in february.

This is one of the best adventure games I have had the privelage of playing in quite some time. Its spit into five chapters similar to any of the telltale games with three of the chapters currently released in english. Its worth noting that the first chapter is relativley short when compared to chapters two and three and acts as a long intro.

Its a story driven game heavy on text (so put on your reading glasses), the art style is fantastic (similar to Cinders or much of the Darkeye stuff) and the setting is wondefully eclectic. The cast of characters are all well crafted and by the end of chapter three all were very well fleshed out. I wont spoil the story but to say its an investigation based thriller with plenty of character interaction and dialogue.

The experience contains some light puzzle elements and some side quests which I find unusual for this style of game, seperating it from the linear visual novels also found in this genre. I also felt the decisions I made had consequences and was suprised to discover death or failure was in fact possible. The illusion of choice and "magicians choices" are often a problem for me in these types of games, but I genuinley felt that I was having an impact on the world and its characters. Incidentally the game does have a morality system which I wont go into but rest assured your actions do indeed have "consequences".

I highly recommend this game to anyone interested in adventure and or visual novels and considering the amount of garbage that comes out of greenlight its good to see something awesome for a change. The one criticism that I can make is the grammar and typos in the english translation of the game, certainly not enough to dissuade me from recommending it but they are obvious. I personally can overlook such problems and did not find them frequently enough to cause me frustration.

I truly hope this game is a commercial success for the devs and receives the attention it deserves I would love to see more from this studio in the future and eagerly await the release of the next chapter.

Love

Arch

A genuine Dark Theme Visual Novel with a combination of point and click adventure.
The story takes place in a world different from us.

Pros :
+ Wonderful Artstyle
+ Fantastic Story
+ Nice Puzzle
+ Atmospheric world and setting

Normal :
+- English translation a bit clunky (for me it's really good as English is not my native language)

Con :
- Not all episodes are out for now (still 4 of 5 eps)

For everyone who loves adventure point & click or Visual Novel with Dark Theme you should try this game. Early in game (when you're a kid) feels kinda boring, but later after you grow up, things become very interesting and engaging.

Can't wait for the 5th episode.

Excellent game!

I am not a fan of 'visual novels', but 'Leviathan' has much more in common with story-rich adventures than with 'anime-styled' novels that give you walls of texts to read and little to none interactivity.

The visuals are quite good, and the deep story is even better - the world of the game is unique and intriguing and all the characters leave memorable impressions. Yes, you have to click a lot to read and proceed, but there is fully functional inventory, and even some notions of non-linearity, including side-quests.

Probably, the only drawback is that the game is actually in 'early access' for now - the last chapter that promises to answer all the questions and to tie all ends, is still not available... I can't wait!

And even in its current state the game could still be fun and should definitely be recommended.

9.2/10 - I Bought a Visual Novel; I Got So Much More!

I'm glad I found this one; it’s easily one of the best visual novels I’ve ever played. The story is quite good and the campaign will last you anywhere from 9-15 hours! This game brilliantly utilizes choices matter in conjunction with some point and click and exploration elements.

This psychological thriller isn't for kids; it's a complex, dirty and riveting detective game that unfolds in front of your eyes. You are Oliver, a boy who for the last 10 years has been piecing together clues to track down his mother's murderer; the events that follow will captivate you until the very final chapter.

There are very little videos or help guides online so make sure to take your time with things, and save every so often. This isn't your typical visual novel and you can stray off course and hit a dead end if you aren't careful! This really makes it fun though, you have to become the detective and investigate everything.

It's worth the full $15 for sure! I see on sale and in bundles often though!
