X:Rebirth was playable and much enjoyable even with the 2.5 patch. I've been playing 3.0 since the first beta and I haven't encountered any bugs or issues with the game. The performance is very good, and only a couple of sectors have FPS drops. But even then - the FPS is stuck around 40-45 as a minimum on my rig.

I'm very happy to see that the Teladi Outpost got a separate steam ID so people can actualy rate the game at its current state and not by the horrible state it was at launch.

If you want a beautiful looking space shooter - Get X:R now. There's no question about it. There is no games like it currently available.

And before you say it - NO, star citizen is not available - it's in alpha, and there's basically nothing to do (I own the game myself).

And no - At this time even Elite is not out yet. And I'm afraid by forum posts - it still needs a lot of work to do.

Egosoft had a bad launch - they stood by the game, they patched it up, and they even made an expansion now that makes the game insanely fun for me. Now... i'm off to pewpew some Xenon and make more profitsss...

Well the Teladi Outpost DLC may not offer a lot in the way of new content; two new sectors, new ships, and one unique quest chain. The new sectors offer a new region of space to explore where you must go off the beaten path to find interesting stuff (I found an abadoned Teladi Freighter in the center of a named zone).

The real excitement of this release is that is was accompanied by the release of the 3.0 patch, with a large host of new features and several old ones were redesigned. Boarding is much more challenging and many of the new features (like station hacking) reward exploration and truly brings out the Think, in Trade, Build, Fight, Think.

While I am still seeing lots of room for improvement (Station Manager AI, and the Small ship AI of player owned ships being the formost examples). Egosoft as proven that they are not going to abadon this game, and will continue to polish up this game. I look forward to seeing future patches and expansions, and I will continue to sink many hours into this game!

Worth gettting and enjoyible, I am surprised my game runs so smooth now. I still recommend you take specs into consideration, The game runs fine on 4 to 8 and 16 core machines. Anything below a quad will have problems with the game that means dual core processors. Thankfully it does mention it on the recommended specs on page but please before you complain about the game make sure you have the right cpu.

Things I Noticed that have been improved, The map being one of them. I can now fully drag the map and look at any position now and not have to just rely on the a fixed potion to get my barrings.

Another thing I noticed are ship commands. Many new options showup finally and they acutally work finally aswell. So telling a ship to restock and refuel and it sitting idel is a thing of the past now.

Ship collisions have been fixed and rescripted it seems so that is another good thing plus you have an option to tell a ship to retreat from combat to a safe distance now.

Highway speeds have been increased again though that might be for the rush n go types. I prefer going slow since it gives me a break to menu manage things while highway traveling.

Space traffic seems to be more realistic now and not the congested mess it has been which free's up script times for the cpu.

The Auto pilot is still kinda iffy when it comes to certain trade lane gates. There still seems to be a problem with using greater distance super highways that it will spit you out many more miles away than it should thus making a trip back to the sector a many of hours journay or send you into the infinite void of garbled pixel hell. I wish there was a super speed engine you could by that uses the booster to move those speeds and allow you to explore the enviroment better than having a predetermined pathway as the only option.

The final thing noticible are Station activities with more linked options for missions and trading and pirate illegal acts. Ontop of all that tiny things happening around stations. Robots and tiny cars can be seen doing their thing more clearly now. space trams move more realistic, Elevators move from floor to floor and stop and reverse as if in use naturally. Just tons of tiny more details. It gets really fantastic once you find majorly populator space gardens and the detail added to the machines that take care of them that is a nicer touch along with watering cycles.

Overall this version of the game was worth the wait and patience and deserves to be re reviewed by major critics. I'd also like to thank egosoft for listneing to all our complaints and mod ideas and working hard to finally give us the game they tryed so hard to give us in the first place.

Thank you.

First, let's get general X Rebirth review out of the way. It's not perfect yet, but it is good. Devs are working on the game, improving it and fixing it. There is a public BETA available once new patches are ready and that raises the overall quality.
Again, not perfect, but still, a lot of fun and it's getting better with every patch.

The DLC itself is interesting.
The first teladi sector does not have highways. My first reaction was "WTF, that's stupid?"
But it isn't. The new environment makes you use your brain if you want to explore everything and survive.
It was fun!

It gives a different feel to the game, showing you how former Commonwealth sectors changed while being disconnected from each other. If this is the taste of the future DLCs and upgrades then I'm really liking it.

What's bad? Well, learning curve might scare away casual gamers, but that's OK.
There are still some minor glitches, but most of them have already been identified, so I'm sure Egosoft will fix them soon.
Capital ship control is better than it was, but right now it's the worst part of gameplay. I really hope they work on it.

If you have some time to invest into a game and are looking for something that is a challenge, go for it.

My grades would be:

XR 3.0 7/10
TO DLC 8/10

This dlc gives you a new System to explore where the main race is Teladi (obvious?).

- The Teladi Overwatch, a massive space station, (Pok Gens are in massive supply here, great to make some profitsss in Albion and Devries that lack them.)

- Unique Pirate Factions Ugarus Armaments and the Cartel with Stations scattered across both Sectors

- Pirates everywhere that will attack your freighters and steal your cargo with Cargo Lifters

- Teladianium Fabs (Can't buy Construction Vessels from ship dealers sadly)

- A whole host of New Ships, the Vulture, the Albatross, the Falcon Fighter, Conder, Phoenix Destroyer to name some.

- Unique Teladi skins for NPC's

- Unique missions for those that like being the Pirate.

- All New Hazardous Regions that damage your Ship on entry

- New Missile and Weapon types.

- 2 New Sectors, 1 with Highways, the other is free flight.

Currently Beta Testing Version 4.0.

It's 90% Bug free pretty much, still some bugs that need ironing out, but nothing that has crashed my game or stopped my enjoyment (Personally, can't even remember the last time my game crashed since 2.5).
Frames per second has improved considerably (Still work to do, but it's mostly smooth and 20/30fps around areas like the Great Basin, Exhausted Mines and dense cloud parts of the Sixth Scripure and Teladi Space).
Egosoft are listening to fans and bringing back SETA and Jump drives for the Skunk.

On conclusion..
It isn't on par with X3, but it stands out in it's own right, give it a try, Egosoft continue to add new features and fix bugs, they're keeping their promises. Roll on the new dlc coming very soon to beta testers.

OK now that i have your attention on to the review :)

with the release of the 3.0 update and the DLC, this game is probably the most fun and visually stunning game i own to this date. The game is wonderful and to those of you who are put off by the bad launch, please give it a try. X-rebirth, in my opinion, is by far the best X game there is out there. The boatload of new features, gameplay options, and just the game enviorment in general, makes you truly feel like your playing in a living, breating universe enviornment.

I honestly wish that steam and all the game reviewers out there would give this game a second shot, and see how amazing it is. Most game companies would have tried to bury such a game from the bad buggy start, or even go under because of it. But i have to say, I am proud to own this game and the fact that Egosoft has stuck by it and fixed it up. the game with the release of the 2.0 patch was where it should have been at launch, and ever since then Egosoft has just made it better and better to a point where this game is truly an amazing and stunning game.

To those of you who were put off by the bad launch, or those of you who owned the game and havent touched it since the launch, all i can say is give it another try, and you will see that this game is borderline perfection (even with the gawd awful voice acting lolz).

Now that i have said what needs to be said, I think im going to fly away before the xenon gnaw off my other leg and i have to lose profitsssss by paying some teladi to make me two prosthetic legs :O

X Rebirth is now playable. There are still bugs but they can be avoided, and some technical issues.

- The CV or Construction Vehicle can be used in the trade menu to purchase wares, but you cannot transfer wares or sell wares. So, all the materials on CV is fixed once purchased. This causes problems if you do not have enough space for the space station that you want to build.

Technical issue
- If you want to repair your station, you REQUIRE the CV. If your CV is destroyed, You cannot repair your station still. I know they will fix this problem.

-Edit:Construction URV just roam around sometimes after it built a station. So, you could use them as a shield against enemy fighters.

Other than those two issues, I have not encountered any issues. It is fun and really time consuming.

i watched as X: rebirth launched 1 year ago and almost bought it then. I watched as bad review after bad review hit...and did not buy. I have kept an eye on this title ever since and with the Teladi Outpost DLC launchi checked on it again. After reading reviews and doing some more research on it i felt like giving it a try and going for a purchase. I have not regreted that choice.

If you have been watching this title hoping it would turn into something i feel like now is the time to jump in. I put 8 hrs into it and barely felt like i had been playing at all.

I will say this though; repairing your ship seems like it should be easier once you have a ship tech on board. I can't seem to get them to repair my ship. So i fire them and then they will repair it...? I am pretty sure that i'm doing something wrong and making it harder than it is but that is the only problem i've had so far.

Fun game, buy it at discount to feel extra good about it.

What is the point of new ships if you can't fly them? You're still stuck in the aptly named "Albion Skunk". One of the greatest sources of diversity and freedom of choice the X series offered in previous titles has been stripped away and still remains gone. I don't think I'll be able to take much interest in this game or any of its expansions until that is rectified.

Yes, I know I can change the stupid weapon mounts on my stupid Skunk and alter it within certain limits, but it just isn't the same and feels like a massive step backwards for the series.

This game had a great idea but the UI and the way that you move around in the world is awful and makes it unplayable. The game is very beautiful and has a lot too it. It's a good buy if on a 75% off sale.

X Rebirth is a fantastic game - especially now with 4.0 - and I'm glad to have this expansion to the base game. I still have lots to explore in this region, but it's already well worth while.

I love the atmosphere of this game, including this expansion - the galaxy has character, depth, beauty. It feels crafted not generic. It feels alive. It's a place worthy of making your own stories.

This expansion isn't huge, but it is a good size and I'm happy with what it adds - and when it comes to this game I'll take all there is!

<< EDIT: Have now passed the 300 hour mark in Rebirth, and.. am STILL LOVING THIS GAME! >>

Horrible ripoff for a DLC. The positive reviews are either paid, apologists for the developers, or more likely mistaking the content of the DLC (paid) for the major update that was released at the same time (free). Not to mention, of course, that for a short while the DLC was free to anyone that already owned X-Rebirth... so many of the reviews are based on no cost, rather than $10.

What it adds:

Teladi NPCs - nice model, good piece of lore but offering nothing new. Their speeches are even longer making all communication and interaction longer.

New Weapons - Or rather it adds an upgrade to 2 guns (which are rather nice actually) and a missle.

Teladi Ships - Better armed than most, but nothing spectacular. There is one warship with a tiny cargo bay. They do look good, so let's hope they add another teladi system someday.

2 Teladi Sectors - One has a lovely huge station near a gate to Albion, which is good to trade with if you can deal with some risk (Teladi pirates are far more potent). The same zone lacks highways so you'll have a little fun exploring. Neither sector has any significant economy (less than DeVries) so the dlc for the trade-oriented race...has little trade and no reason to ever return once you've been there.

One new mission. That's right. One. Buried in a corner with a decent credit reward and nothing else special about it.

It still is a decent buy $/hr of entertainment, but compared to the market it is grossly overpriced.

this DLC contain the wackiest faction in all of x games.

it will kill any ship with trader purposes in it and ignore any ships with big guns except xenon.

TBH it won't change anything in the game if you didn't get this

Finally reached the expansion content after taking a longer break and it´s pretty awesome.
XR1.0 had a very rocky launch but it´s infinitely better now at v4.0 and still gets constant support and updates by Egosoft.
If you like space trading games with a real economy simulation, pick it up.
