Knights of the Old Republic (KoTR) for short, is an epic Star Wars RPG that lives up to the name. Its deep enough to get lost in purely for the game itself, yet doesn't let this depth ruin the Star Wars immersion. Its old, but its definately a staple in any good library.

Timeless classic. There will probably never be another rpg with such good dialogue now that video games are so mainstream (Bioware's modern color wheel simplified dialogue's uncanny valley meter is off the charts, lifeless). I give it a thumbs down because the MAC version only supports english as the spoken language. Most latinos and children would be playing it on ipad if at all....only version many can afford.

One of the best Star Wars games out there. Up there with Republic Commando. Amazing story line that added a plethora of lore to the SW universe. This game is fantastic and will forever hold a place in my heart as one of the first reasons for getting me involved in loing SW.

And yes, the second one is even better :) 100000/10

1. Long story short: if you think a 40-50 hour open world RPG set in the Star Wars universe sounds like fun, you will like this game.

2. This has some hiccups running on newer versions of Windows. Use your Googles. It's not that hard.

3. What's cool about this is it has a crazy Dungeons & Dragons dice roll system going on underneath everything. Every roll is documented and you can menu dive for hours tweaking your characters to w/in an inch of their digital fantasy lives.

4. You can also completely ignore number 3 and still play the game just fine. Even better!

5. The controls in this are kind of balls. It was a game built to be played w/ a controller adapted to PC w/o controller support. Welcome to 2003, everybody!

6. Graphics are pretty solid for when the game was made. My biggest problem was that it does that annoying thing where it assumes that higher resolutions mean you have a physically larger monitor so if you want to bump this up to modern resolutions, the text gets all small and infernally difficult to read. 800x600 scratched a 4:3 nostalgia itch I didn't know I had.

7. Any problems w/ the graphics are more than made up for w/ the quality of the voice acting which is still excellent by today's much higher standards. These actors could easily have acted in Episode 7. Though I suppose it's possible they are disfigured or something and thus suitable only to play Jawas and whatever race Gredo is.

8. Something about the plot of this strikes me as very JRPG-ish. You enter the scene w/ no memories and extraordinary ability then gather up a gang of unlikely companions to save the universe.

9. You can play as light side if you are a solid, good-hearted person or dark side if you don't like listening to NPC dialog and just kill everyone. I'm not gonna judge.

10. For some reason the character in this that is the same race as Yoda doesn't talk like Yoda. Whoever made this decision is on my short list of people who should not be allowed to make decisions anymore.

11. This is an open world game but it's not all one contiguous world but rather many discreet open areas. Each one is technically a whole planet but not of them are really large enough to feel like a whole planet. You are also fairly limited in the scope of how much you can customize your characters. This is kind of a bummer but also out of necessity; the Star Wars universe just does not allow you to walk on water if you make the balance check.

12. The final showdown in this is one of those final showdowns which is aggravatingly more difficult than the showdowns than precede it. Even skilled players may be reduced to using cheap tactics to get through it. Just a heads up.

13. You'd be out of your mind to call this a perfect game--the controls alone are bad enough to disqualify it--but every one of its flaws is more than made up for by something it does exceptionally well. I call that a win.

Here's the thing:
Kotor is a great game. Likable characters that're fun to talk to fight along side with an interact with, stratigic combat, interesting story, decent gameplay.
The only thing that absolutly drives me f#$%ing insane is the crashing.
I can start the game up just fine on Windows 10, but every time there's a cutscene or a saved game I wanna load, the game crashes during a cutscene or freezes on a loading screen.
It's a ♥♥♥♥ing nightmare how often this ends up happening.
I've looked everywhere for a cure but nobody seems to have the same problem I do.
It's a huge disapointment and I wouldn't be so ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ed ♥♥♥♥♥♥ about it were it not for the fact that this is a great game.

Knights of the Old Republic is one of the greatest RPG Games ever developed. I highly recommend this to any Star Wars & RPG Fan.

KOTOR is best played with K1 Restoration mod and Brotherhood of Shadow: Solomon's Revenge mod (both are compatible with each other).

Pros
+ Far better than SWTOR (also known as the game that killed Revan)
+ Storyline is intense, revelations that will leave you speechless (unless you're stupid like me and decide to look at a Youtube playthrough and ruin the ending for yourself)
+ Aside from the main storyline there are plenty of side quests you can do to keep you busy for hours
+ The fate of the entire galaxy is placed in your hands, as you search for clues to the mysterious 'Star Forge' you can either help people or destroy them
+ Excellent voice acting that fits perfectly into the story

Cons
- Game has the potential to crash at the most inconvenient times (happens less on the Steam Version)
- No Achievements or Steam Trading Cards
- Textures & Graphics are a bit dated, but thankfully there's a bunch of mods that aims to fix that
- Camera in the Ebon Hawk is zoomed far too close to the character (There's a mod that fixes this)
- Unlike in K2, you can't have much of a conversation with HK-47 or T3-M4

My Rating: 10/10 (Recommended)

An excellent adaptation of the d20 system by BioWare. The NPCs aren't amazing, but, as is almost always the case with Star Wars, the universe more than makes up for it. Admittedly I prefer the writing styles of the Obsidian-born sequel, but if epic quests to save the galaxy are something you enjoy, you should pick this game up. Unfortunately, this game like many others suffers from a very shallow morality system that often comes down to two choices.

Great game, not jus for its day. but in general. Satisfying, pausable, squad tactics-based combat and great RPG elements. your actions matter, so there are multiple endings. This one really deserves a remake.

I recommend this game, because even after so many years it's still a pretty good RPG with some memorable characters.

BUT!

Be warned that, even with additional fan patches, this game seems to have a lot of trouble with modern OS.

- There is a bug that after, like, 90% of the battles my character just got stuck and I had to quicksave and reload. Many other people have this issue, but there seems to be no fix for it besides the above-mentioned 'trick', which gets super tedious.

- The game crashed at irregular intervals, and it got more frequent the longer I had played. This tends to happen especially while quicksaving or loading, and if it happens during the first, the quicksave file is broken and can't be loaded anymore. That combined with the 'stuck after battle' bug gets INCREDIBLY annoying the longer you have to deal with it.

This doesn't render KOTOR unplayable, but I can't say I really enjoyed playing it either. So, if you buy the game, be prepared to face these nuisances too.

Call me biased for being raised off of Bioware games, but this is a classic that will forever be treasured in my memory.
