What the developers have to say:

Why Early Access?

Approximately how long will this game be in Early Access?

“We’re hoping to launch properly into Early Access in the next few months. Please be aware, though, that we’re working with brand new technology and this can mean unexpected issues that take time to fix.”

How is the full version planned to differ from the Early Access version?

“At this stage the only concrete thing we can say is “MASSIVELY”. The shape and direction of the game will be guided by the community at every step of the way. There’ll be big changes already visible once we officially launch into Early Access.

Not all of these changes we'll be making will be player facing. They'll be significant overhauls and upgrades to the background tech to ensure a better, streamlined process of delivering content once we do officially launch into Early Access.

The objective for this private page phase is to shore up our foundations and get them truly ready to be built upon. As such, at this time the game's updates will be content light. So only purchase this game at this stage if you're okay with this.”

What is the current state of the Early Access version?

“At this Pre-Early Access stage, you may still encounter rather large, sometimes gamebreaking, bugs. Such as:

  • Ship fragility - sometimes your ship will disappear, or blow-up for seemingly no reason
  • Client instability leading to freezes and crashes (suboptimal performance)
  • Unpredictable physics - have fun flying to the moon, again for no reason

There will also be world wipes occasionally that will reset your character and your progress. These are not to just fix issues, but to also implement new, large features and worlds.

It’s all part of the reason we’re not in official Early Access. Right now, the game’s updates will be content light as we’re taking this time to conduct fixes and upgrades to the tech running the game.”

Will the game be priced differently during and after Early Access?

“As part of our research into pricing for the Founder’s Packs, we consulted our amazing community of Worlds Adrift Alpha players via surveys and emails, as well as MMO player Focus Groups. We also did a robust competitor analysis to make sure our pricing reflected similar games on the current market, and we will continue to make sure the Early Access version is competitively and fairly priced.”

How are you planning on involving the Community in your development process?

“During our initial Closed Beta stage, we had a wealth of valuable feedback come from the community. It showed us not only what people loved about the game, but also where we needed to focus our attention. Part of this Pre-Early Access stage is to work even closer with our wonderful community and to continue to hear what they have to say.

We're always interested in hearing your ideas for the game and do take them onboard. At this stage, however, we're most interested in hearing your experience playing the game - the good, the bad, and the hideous. So do jump on our Forums, or any other official channel, and let us know.

Make sure your voices are heard!

Introducing Kioki: A New Worlds Adrift Culture

An ancient civilisation has been unearthed in Worlds Adrift. Known as the Kioki, this diverse and affluent nation prided themselves on the artistry of architecture. It’s now up to you - the Founders - to ensure their ways aren’t forgotten once more.

Kioki marks the second culture to be added to Worlds Adrift, and the differences between them and the Saborians couldn’t be more stark. A prosperous society, they favoured opulent surroundings, including brass domed roofs, intricate embellishments, and brightly coloured textures… not to mention, had a strange obsession with birds (you’ll see what we mean).

In order to accommodate these architectural changes, we’ve introduced a few new updates to the Island Creator, such as the ability to snap certain pieces together. This means grand and magnificent dwellings (as the wealthy Kioki naturally favoured), can now be constructed at a much faster rate. What’s more, because of the Kioki’s fondness for colour, their murals are multi-colored wall paintings rather than carvings like those of the Saborians, allowing for even more elaborate arrangements.

Kioki In-Game
So, when can we actually start exploring Kioki-styled islands, I hear you ask? Well, the Kioki islands will occupy their own regions in the Worlds Adrift skies, so we’ll need a sufficient number of islands to populate them.

The Kioki update is available now, and equates to approximately 450 new pieces to play around with in the updated Island Creator tool: we’re talking new chests, turrets, statues, lights, doorways, wall, windows, and… well, you get the idea. So what’re you waiting for? Create your new island now, and let’s get the Kioki biome populated as quickly as possible.

See how the Kioki update was created in our latest "Behind the Scenes" video:

We can't wait to see what you Creators come up with!

Updates: 0.1.5 and 0.1.6 - What to expect

Hi everyone,

Here’s a quick update as to where we are with 0.1.5: We believe that we’ve identified the key problem and are currently testing a few fixes for it. If all goes well, we may be able to get the update out to you in the next couple of weeks, but we’ll keep you informed if this isn’t going to be the case.

0.1.5 has been a particularly challenging update due to the fact that it focuses primarily on large upgrades to our tech, and multiple under-the-hood improvements.

On a more positive note, the 0.1.6 update that’s been worked on alongside 0.1.5 is currently going through it’s bug bashing phase with QA and so far it’s looking like it’ll be on track to come out early December, though that’s dependent on 0.1.5’s release. Either way, the wait time between 0.1.5 and 0.1.6 will be much shorter than it has been between previous updates! (Weeks, not months.)

And 0.1.6 is BIG. We’ll be showing some of the content in the run-up to the update. Right now, here’s a few of the larger pieces going in:

  • The (now infamous) world wipe. This is being done to not only fix some persistent bugs, but also so we can introduce a brand new world map.
  • New islands - loads of stunning islands created in the IC are being brought in via the new world.
  • The swivel gun and its branch on the Knowledge tree. It won’t be just screenshots and teasers for much longer.

As usual we’ll keep you all in the loop with what’s happening with 0.1.5 if the projected timeline doesn’t hold for whatever reason.

A little bonus

Interested in seeing how our art team develops and iterates the various VFX of the game? We have a copy of one of their live documents here where Jason adds GIFs of what he’s currently working on. Enjoy!

See you in the skies!

Create The World

The Island Creator is a FREE tool you can use to create the universe of Worlds Adrift. Will your Island make it into the game?

About This Game

Thousands of years ago, a cataclysmic event shattered a world into hundreds of floating islands. Civilizations tumbled, cultures collapsed, wisdom vanished, and all seemed lost.

Now you are the Founders of this new world, emerging from the ruins to build your own skyships and craft your own adventures as you explore the seemingly endless skies.

Get ready to weather the storms, this is YOUR story and the skies await.

Welcome to Worlds Adrift.

Knowledge is Power

Explore a vast and ever changing world, use your multitool to unearth the secrets of ancient technologies long since forgotten by those who went before. Acquire their knowledge and use it to upgrade your ship and ability to outsmart or outmaneuver fellow travellers as you scavenge from island to scattered island.

Craft to Survive, Explore, and Expand

Whether discovered in an old ruin, looted from or shared with fellow travellers, knowledge and schematics will help you design and build your ultimate skyship to dominate the skies. Craft the equipment you’ll need to face the ever present threat of the elements, wildlife, and others.

Player Interaction is Paramount

Friend or Foe? The world can be savage and unforgiving if you attempt to go it alone. Form a crew, forge Alliances and set out to sail. A force of good or a force to be reckoned with, will you be the hero or villain of your story? The choice is yours.
