"sub 30 cent trading card game. Actually decent gameplay with great soundtrack. A bit of unfair randomness, but overall a good game for the price."

Unless you are buying this for the card drops, DO NOT PURCHASE!

Uninteligable visuals. Truly horrid music you can not turn off or lower. Gameplay is completely nonexistant. Each session is 30secs of WTH is going on. No tutorial or instructions. Dev calls this an experament, I just wonder if it's one for the tolerance of players for the worst game ever.

Buy this great soundtrack, you will get something interactive you could call a game too.

Credits scroll longer than the time it takes you to beat the game.

Ok, so first off, I bought this game for about .10c so ... not expensive, thats a plus.

I just beat the game in about 3 minutes. Yes it is possible to beat the game.
I think there were about 8-10 waves. You only have one life and must completely restart upon death.
As you progress trough waves with a class you gain higher stats for that class. I recomend the wanderer. Lower stats but moves faster.
The highest stats for a class are Rank A.
The game is VERY VERY VERY VERY VERY VERY short but it has interesting music that CANNOT be disabled or turned down.

There are no options menus, only a class selection screen, then straight to gameplay. Spacebar hacks the enemy, preventing them from shooting you. Left mouse is melee attack and right mouse switches to lazer. Lazer is limited to the amount listed for the class.

If you read this then you now know more than I did when I first played it.
Overall... the game is kinda fun but way too short.

...I really didn't know what I was doing. I adapted to the controls, I saw the controls on the background and studied them. Even if I got used to the controls and my environment, I still died or still took tons of damage attempting to do what I did. Fact of the matter is, the damn tanks have very high accuracy, you're bound to get hit at least a dozen times before luckily shutting them down.

I like the atmosphere of this game, it shows a lot of promise. But the fact that it's so vague to play, it pains having to pay more than a dollar for it and discourages the idea of playing it again. I think I got this for like 26 cents and damn did I get what I paid for.

The only thing I got out of the deal was the soundtrack which, might just be worth more than the game itself, honestly.

Be weary buying this game, never pay full price for it, get it for sale, get the money back from the cards. Call it a day and let it collect virtual dust.

Based on gameplay I cannot recommend Gearcrack Arena. When you start playing it you don't have a clue what you are doing or why. You are just shooting lasers at some kind of enemy ships. It's very dull and boring. The controls are written across the screen because they didn't bother to make a serious options menu.

This is however the cheapest game on Steam and they have updated the game with trading cards, so you might wanna grab it just for that. If you sell the cards you can earn back the money you paid for the game!

The only thing I enjoyed was the music. As you play you will hear intrumental metal playing with some really nice guitar riffs and drums.

As a conclusion I will say that you should buy this "game" if you enjoy the music and want some cheap steam trading cards, but if you are looking for gameplay you should look elsewhere.

Just good for the soundtrack

I've played a few matches of it, decided it could be good if it had
  • a dodge/roll move
  • or some kind of directional shield
  • no rng for life
  • a health bar.

The soundtrack is really amazing if you like this kind of industrial/electronic music

Warning! This is not a game. This is a magic jukebox that will bring you the awesome ambient/rock tunes from the early days.
Recommended as a cheap collection of awesome tunes.
If you are looking for the same soundtrack quality but with an actual game to go along >>> Alien Shooter.

This game is unfortunately too random to be good. You can get hit like 50 times and not die, and then the next round, you get hit once and it is game over. From that standpoint, it is not a good gane at all, even though it has a decent premise and is cool looking in a minimalist way.

However, there are some real positives to the game as well.

The biggest positive is the soundtrack. There is some really cool music in the game.
Additionally, randomness aside, the simplistic gameplay (basically hacking the enemy (like computer hacking) and straight up bum rushing them makes for a pleasing experience, right up until you sudddenly blow up.

This means it wont be laborious to play for at least a little while, and in fact, you might find some real enjoyment in this game.

Finally, this game is regularly less than 30 cents, and most recently (as in this past week), it has been on sale for 18 cents. The cards for the game sell for more than that (I received 23 cents for my 3 cards, lol). So, from that perspective, it's basically only pennies to buy, and you will if not profit, at least make most of the expenditure back in card sales. That pretty much guarantees that it will be widely gifted around Steam, and a lot of people will be at the very least farming the game. However, if you are like me, you'll at least try the game out as well. Why not, right?

So, I am giving this a thumbs up due to the positives outweighing the negatives, and the fact that the game will basically be free for everybody, whether they actually bought it or not, courtesy of the Steam marketplace.

So, I'm not going to rate the game. I assume you will own it regardless of it's ratings.

Cheers
