October Game Update

We have good news for you soldiers... a new campaign has arrived. You better not be afraid of the dark, because you’re to be deployed in the desert at night in our brand new mode, Bag and Tag.

This vast battleground is a place where we sharpen our skills, where our enemy roots out the weak from its ranks, and where your only friend is the cover of descending darkness...

With enemies attacking from all sides, you’ll have to master the art of fighting off non-stop attacks all by yourself. Who knows, it’s a skill you might be calling on again soon!

We’ve also implemented new changes, and you can read about some of the major ones below:

Unlocked items for free
From now on, any unlocked item will be given for free to the player. Once an item is unlocked, a pop-up will appear with the message

Rank Up Rewards

The Rank Up Rewards random box content is now displayed in a specific pop-up, the same way as when you open a random box from the shop. You can now see exactly what the Rank up Rewards random box has given you as a reward.

Short list of additional changes:

  • Increased accuracy when knocked back
  • New HUD customization: you can now adjust the size, the color and the transparency of the hit feedback / feedback indicator
  • Pre-invite restriction improvements: the pre-invite system has been improved to ease the invitation of friends in game rooms.

If you want to see all of the changes, check out our complete patch-notes here.

Something worth fighting for

Whatever mode you're playing, you'll become part of the power struggle between the elite forces of Warface and the corrupt military juggernaut, Blackwood. Co-op missions challenge you to drop into conflict hotspots around the globe and loosen Blackwood's stranglehold, while Versus play invites you to choose your side and wipe out all who stand in your way!

Along the way, Warface makes sure you have access to the firepower and skill set required for victory. Unlock a vast array of weapons and tweak them to personal perfection by utilizing multiple upgrade slots. There are also plenty of ways to enhance your soldier's stats, and when the battle gets underway you can gain an advantage over the enemy with special actions such as sliding and shooting, taking cover behind moveable objects, and combining with friends to reach strategic vantage points.

From the creators of Far Cry and Crysis, Warface keeps the top quality FPS action coming thick and fast every single day, completely for free!

UPDATE: 7/29/15

Few changes since happened since I made this review, so I'd figure I would re-evaluate some things.

***State of "Pay to win"***
The game no longer features gear in the shop for purchase through kredits, (the currency available for real cash) so all boxes, weapons, and outfits are available to every player for the currency you get from playing the game.

However, in light of the removal of these premium purchase capabilities, Crytek has focused on Warface's boosters as a source of revenue--which isn't a bad thing inherently, except for the fact that they purposely nuked game rewards massively to the point where if you don't buy all the boosters you will struggle to progress.

Since I started playing back in 2013 the rewards have dropped near 5 fold... Also factor in the overhaul of the game economy where shop items are ridiculously over-priced and repair costs on some items make you LOSE money each game you play.

"♥♥♥♥ you, buy our boosters".

Skilled mission without boosters
$330-ish (varies depending on region the mission is in)
AR-GAR rifle permanent purchase

Repair on LMG4 after 12 minutes in skilled game room

$42,000/$170=247 games, provided you complete every single skilled you run also assuming you do not have any other degradable gear on. At an average of 12 minutes per mission it would take you 50 hours just to be able to get the AR-GAR rifle permanently.

Promises have been made again, and again over the past almost 3 years now, and nothing major has been done to stop them. In-fact, there is a pretty famous Warface "hacker" that has managed to bypass the "anti-cheat" every single update for several months now, delivering free cheats to any player that wishes to use them, whether out of frustration of the terrible economy, their terrible pings, or just to be a troll. The blatant cases of impossible actions usually get banned within a week, while the closet cheaters can take quite a long time.

There have been actions taken recently to enforce TOS, so be wary.

DO NOT WILLINGLY PLAY WITH CHEATERS (leave the game immediately if you see somebody blatantly cheating)

The problem doesn't lie too heavily in the banning process, but the prevention of cheating. A player can be banned one day, and make a new account and cheat again in the morning. If the anti-cheat actually detected cheaters and took action against them, or if there were more permanent consequences for bans the problem would be lessened to a degree.

Game runs relatively well in it's current state, some maps have some optimization issues that affect low-mid end systems, but the old stuttering/freezes/crashes are almost entirely gone now or are very rare occurances.

Some ancient bugs have been ninja'd though various updates, and seem to now affect high ping players (200+) only. I never have to spam right mouse to give myself ammo anymore, and my medic doesn't lock up randomly.

The servers seem to have degraded again, there are really bad teleporting issues, players becoming invulnerable, and wallshots everywhere. I still attribute most of these issues to the lopsided populations of high ping to low ping players.

Terrible quick-play system that hardly anybody uses, so finding games with randoms takes upwards of 10 minutes.

Initiation-regular takes 3 players to start the game, skilled-hardcore need 4. Good luck finding players to play.

Africa missions are pretty to look at, but counter productive when it comes to grinding as they take almost twice as long as the other missions, which accounts for more repair costs. The bonus rewards are negligible due to the length and difficulty.

You can't start rooms alone, so you can't really work on challenges efficiently.

Marathon is extremely long and can be difficult, and the rewards are hardly justifiable (aside from cool winter skins)

Tower raid is the go-to for weapon masteries because of the high amount of kills you can rack up, it's not extremely hard, but it's pretty boring.

Quickplay is basically TDM and storm only, other game modes are rare. The standard room browser works fine, but out of the many channels to choose from, only 1 of them are active throughout an entire day.

TDM is your standard game mode. Aside from the small map sizes, the mode itself is fine and enjoyable.

Storm had the potential to be a fun game mode, but coupled with the terrible autobalance system Warface has...
-Instant respawns; if you get on the bad side of autobalance and your team decides it doesn't want to play the objective, offense and defense is impossible. You can be the best player in your server and it would be impossible to capture a point alone when you have an endless horde of players on defense spawning in as fast as they mash the spacebar.

-Extremely one sided maps and general bad design. Some maps are extremely hard on offense (High Hill).

Destruction isn't very popular, even though it's not a terrible game mode.

PTB is popular among higher ranks, simple and competitive.

FFA isn't as popular as you would think it would be, but it's fun enough.

The forums ("Warface hub") is basically a place for players to vent their frustration about lag and cheaters, except moderators are rarely around and staff usually doesn't respond to anything.

The support site is basically "we work whenever we feel like it" and pre-typed responses. Don't expect a helpful reply in a timeful manner.

The "community managers" are just random dudes who stream and give out redeem codes via raffle's, they don't know much about the actual development of the NW version of the game.

***Final word/TLDR***
A unique gem in the f2p market that is plagued by bad management and low quality of service. Cheaters are an issue just like most free to play games at some point or another. And "Pay-to-convience" in the form of progression.

The ONLY things that makes this game worth playing is the game mechanics, weapon collections, and (if you are a vet player) the bonds you make with clanmates raging about this game. I won't change my recommendation, because I still think this is a game people should at least experience once. If you can bring yourself to buy the boosters and devote time to the game, PVE at the very least can be enjoyable with friends.

So there is alot of reviews saying this game is Pay to win..Well it was..Now only thing you can buy with premium currency is XP boost and Cosmetics. No Premium weapons. Also Playing this game maybe 30 mins to an hour everyday or so works well. Since Co-op missions rotate everyday. And Multiplayer can be a lot of fun with friends w/Communication. So warface to me is more of a side hoe. When I'm bored start this bb up and get some great fun.
