What the developers have to say:

Why Early Access?

“We’re releasing in Early Access because our initial goal was to release in April 2014 (with a lot less features that you are seeing now). But due to the overwhelming response and support from our Kickstarter backers and reaching over 1200% of our goal, we wanted to add a lot more content and features so we can bring you the best game possible! We’re still releasing in April, just in Early Access instead and with a lot more features implemented than we initially planned, and with a lot more still to come. Hop on for the ride!”

Approximately how long will this game be in Early Access?

“We will be working on the game until both us and the community feels confident in the feature set presented, but that won't be the end of the game's development either! We have released nearly a patch a week since our Kickstarter ended, so we are fully dedicated to the success of the game.”

How is the full version planned to differ from the Early Access version?

“Unlocked Stretch Goals:
3 Additional Game Modes [ALL GAME MODES HAVE BEEN ADDED!]
Mod Support (3D Models) [THIS HAS BEEN ADDED!]
RPG Kit (25 animated figurines, Dungeon Tilesets & Misc props) [THIS HAS BEEN ADDED!]
Steam Workshop Support [THIS HAS BEEN ADDED!]
Oculus Rift & CastAR Support
Customizable Figurines
Space Theme
and tons more!”

What is the current state of the Early Access version?

“Tabletop Simulator has all the fundamental features of the game ready for you to play. With over 15 games to choose from and the sandbox nature of the game, you are set to play hundreds of different games. In addition, you can create your own mods and upload them directly to Steam Workshop. The only limitation is of your imagination.

Tons of new content is still to come and your support will help make the game grow even more. Different features are subject to change and your feedback will help shape the direction we take the game for the better!”

Will the game be priced differently during and after Early Access?

“The price will increase when the game leaves early access so be sure to pick it up to save some dosh!”

How are you planning on involving the Community in your development process?

“We love our community and are proud that we take our community seriously! With the updates almost every week since our Kickstarter ended, we've taken a lot of the suggestions and feedback they have given us and implemented them into the game! So it's very important to give us your feedback, so we can make Tabletop Simulator the best it can be!”

Update v4.9 New Whisper Feature, Transparency Support, & Improved Workshop & Saves Sorting.

We’ve got an awesome update for you this week as we added transparency support! That character cutout you couldn’t make before? Well, now you can! You can now privately message people in game and you can also sort your Workshop and Save files which will make finding mods and saves much easier.

As announced earlier this week, Tabletop Simulator will be leaving Early Access on June 5th and with our launch, this will also bring in DLC, starting with Superfight.

Thanks for all your suggestions in our Reddit thread so far. Feel free to keep them coming! You can also continue to post your suggestions on our official forums for after release as well.

We also have a contest just announced yesterday to help us create our release trailer, so if you are interested, you can read all about it here.

And finally, The Humble Store chose Tabletop Simulator to be a part of their Spring Encore Sale, so Tabletop Simulator is now 40% off until May 25th at 10am PST. Get it at this great discount before the price goes up to $19.99 at release.

Whisper and New Chat Commands Added:
  • You now have the ability to whisper people using chat command '/<color> <message>' (ex. /red Hello World!).
  • We decided to use color instead of names due to some people having alt codes or strange characters in their names.
  • Added in '/resetallsaved' chat command which reset all settings (General, Controls, UI, etc).
  • If you prefer to use chat commands you can now use '/team <message>' to chat with your team.
  • Clients can now also use '/help' to see available chat commands like the host.

PNG & Transparency Supported:
  • PNG image textures now properly supported and saved to cache.
  • PNG transparency will also now work on the Custom Figurine and Custom Model.
  • Cutout transparency is supported meaning no semi-transparency (100% or 0% transparency).
  • PNG uses up more RAM than JPG, so use them only if needed.

Custom Object Improvements:
  • You can now modify an existing custom object by right clicking it and select 'Custom'.
  • Optimized the performance of custom models not using normal maps.
  • Improved some of the tooltips and descriptions on the custom model import window.
  • Fixed normal maps saving as green scale and improperly working.
  • Fixed custom model physics properties not persisting through save and loading.
  • Fixed multiple selections on the radio type and material.

Mod Caching Improvements:
  • Greatly reduced the cache size of images to match the same size they are from the host.
  • This will help speed up mod loading from cached images.
  • Slightly improved the image quality of images saved to the cache (no more extra compression).

Workshop and Save UI Improvements:
  • You can now sort your workshop or save files using the drop down menu (Number, Name, Date, etc.).
  • Text is now aligned left and now clips off very long text so it doesn't shrink to unreadable levels.
  • Mousing over a save file will give you a tooltip of the entire name of the file.

Input Field Improvements:
  • Selecting an input field will no longer highlight all the text, but place the caret at the position of click.
  • No more accidently deleting the entire text field due to highlighting.
  • Fixed the URL input fields for the custom model cutting off URLs.

General Improvements:
  • You can now deal cards to a specific color or to all colors with the new expand arrow next to deal.
  • Greatly reduced the time it takes to open workshop or save files by caching save names.
  • Added new hands for Line Tool and Joint hand modes.
  • Added different icons for voice chat and team voice chat to make it easy to distinguish between the two.
  • Optimized some minor code functions.

Fixes:
  • Fixed semi-lock setting not saving properly.
  • Fixed potential issues with teleporting locked objects.
  • Fixed texture issue on custom figurine bleeding into the side of the card.
  • Fixed 'ALT' + 'Right Click' dropped objects from a deck or stack not snapping to the grid.
  • Fixed 'Save & Exit' on the configuration menu applying improper graphics settings if not on that tab.

Before I played my first multiplayer game using Tabletop Simulator, I knew I was going to enjoy it. Tabletop Simulator lays the foundation for you to reconnect with old friends that you used to game with as well as meet new friends that play the same games that you do. It is a toolbox allowing you to unlock nearly every experience you could have sitting at a normal table except you and your friends can now be thousands of miles apart and everyone has the best seat.

The most important aspect of enjoying Tabletop Simulator is understanding the controls. In the beginning, they can be a burden if you don't spend a small amount of time learning how everything works. Take the time and explore all the different ways you can interact with cards, dice, and pieces. Once the controls become second nature, you can instead focus on what you're playing and not how you're playing it.

For me, any and all network issues have been resolved. The game plays smooth and everyone can see everything in real time. Tabletop Simulator can also handle a crazy amount of individual pieces before it begins to struggle -- many more than you would ever use in even the most involved miniature or Euro game.

Lastly, Berserk Games is working hard to make the experience even better. The game is advanced enough now, in my opinion, to be released, but they are finding even more features to add and updating on a regular basis. They listen to their user base and are working to make the best product they can. When you're looking for an Early Access success story, this is the example you should give. I am a proud supporter!

"Tabletop Simulator is the only simulator where you can let your aggression out by flipping the table!"

Unless you include Garry's Mod, use the physgun on a table and propkill your lover.

"There are no rules to follow"

Depends what you plan on doing really. Host won't be happy if you disallow castle-ing in chess.

"Just you, a physics sandbox, and your friends."

There is a singleplayer which is really fun if you love talking to figurines or reading a 2 hour rulebook to a new game.

"Make your own games"

VERY HARD TO DESIGN YOUR OWN ORIGINAL GAMES but it is really easy to make them once you know what to do.

"and play how YOU want!"

Unless the host is a terrible GM or plays with 50 house rules.

"Unlimited gaming possibilities!"

This game is gonna zoom past Gmod and TF2 and claim 1000 hours first.

BUY THIS GAME AND BE MY FRIEND (Because I'm lonely and want to show you some awesome games :c)

Totally recommended, if you like board games that is. The devs are active and the updates solid. It barely feels like an early access and more like a finished game which gets constantly updated.

A Fantastic Tool for Playing Some of Today's Best Boardgames Over the Internet

The amount of games available through the workshop is staggering. Want to play the X-Wing Miniatures game but don't feel like spending a lot of cash to get all the ships Boom . Think Star Wars is for nerds no problem, there are so many games to choose from (Mage Knight, Friday, Uno, Mage Wars, Galaxy Trucker, Magic, King of Tokyo, etc, etc) that you are bound to find at least three or four games you will enjoy. If you enjoy boardgames then Tabletop Simulator is definitely a game you should consider.

I know that feel. You found this sweet board/card game that you would love to play with your friends. "It's gonna be such a blast!", saying in excitement. But we have our friend here name "Life" that knows how to ruin your fun rather quick. Your friends have confusing schedules, dealing with their family and friends, there's no room for there place to hold this much fun on one table. Well guess what Life, the internet has defeated you once more.

Thanks to the Steam Workshop, there can be countless games that does involve a table but you can stay right where you are. Even if we do have to pay for such mods, it won't be as bad cause this game is going to keep growing with games and updates. And for $15, this is possibly the best thing you can buy and save hundreds on your cash and waste hundreds of of your life hours to something useful!
