Standard arcade-style bullet-heck aero-shooter.
Has some potentilly nifty stuff going on with the 3 weapons.

Not much going for it other than that - story is straight out of the 80s.

Solid mechanics - I know they must be solid, because I suck at bullet-heck games, and sure enough, I suck at this game.

This is a fast paced arcade bullet hell shooter that I have been missing for some time now. Certainly a classic feel, but with the addition of blades on your ship to slice at enemies as you shoot makes it innovative as well. If challenging and arcade style gameplay is what you are looking for play this game.

ALLTYNEX Second is tough as nails shmup in the same series as RefleX and Kamui. If you ever played raystorm on the PSX you probably know vaguely what to expect. This game is very unforgiving and features a mix of shooting and melee with your craft. Much like the others it's an extremely difficult, well crafted shmup that will give you hours of challenge. If you're a fan of the genre I recommend it wholeheartedly. If not, you should probably pass.

Quite possibly the finest shmup ever made. And with gems like Ikaruga, Dodonpachi, Batsugun and Radiant Silvergun around, that's a tall order.

This game gives the shmup formula a kick in the balls in the form of extremely polished action visual and gameplay feedback, with the music to match and a badass laser sword with which you can cut bullets or combo enemies into pieces. All with a healthy serving of anime flair, of course.

Trust me, your jaw will be dropping in regular intervals during the course of the average playthrough.

... fantastic vertical shmup - old-school-style... responsive, graphics aren't so busy as you can't see what's going on (although it gets there!) and it's tough as nails... nice weapons dynamic... fluid controls... now aim for those high-scores!!

I rate ALLTYNEX Second (I can't figure out the name of this game either), 3.5, It's okay if you like this sort of thing.

This is a fairly exciting bullet hell space action late 1980s styled arcade game which will seem familiar to anyone whos played Crimson Clover or Raiden III. The weapons systems on your spacecraft take a little getting used to but other than that there is nearly no learning curve to this game. However, this game is extremely difficult and can be frustrating at times (like other games in its series). This game runs adequately although I suffered one computer freeze from this game when turning it off. It's fairly creative and frenetic and exciting but if played more than just casually it can get repetitive and frustrating. Best to get this one on a special Steam sale if you get it.

An excellent 2D shooter with great controls and abilities, plus immersive 2.5D and 3D effects with a solid soundtrack.
One of the few games where you, as the one-vs-all protaganist, actually feel powerful enough take on a whole army.

Also has deep scoring system with replays that will keep you and your friends competing with each other.

At under $10, this game is a total steal.

Really on the border with this one.

As shooters go it's not awful, but it doesn't really excite me either. The weapons system is interesting, but once you get used to it... Well, that's all you get.

Turns off aero when it runs and crashes when I alt-tab.

It's cheap, though, so I'll let it pass.

ALLTYNEX Second is a very solid shmup and the best part of the trilogy. Those familiar with the trilogy know that each game revolves around the special weapon of the ship. I played Kamui 10 hours and enjoyed the background enemy game mechanic. Whereas Reflex and reflecting shield wasn't really my cup of tea.

ALLTYNEX Second has (in addition to normal and homing shots) extremely overpowered swords that back up as a bullet shield (just slash the barrage of bullets) and huge laser that also erases the bullets. Playing the game normally consist mostly racking the chain up by destroying small enemies with normal shot and then killing bigger enemies with swords. Bosses are often killed by cheap shotting them 4 seconds with the swords. I know the description doesn't give a very alluring picture about the game but it is surprisingly fun and challenging (check out my game time).

However ALLTYNEX Second is much deeper than the majority of its players are aware. The game can be played like a proper bullet hell. Playing the game by erasing bullets and bosses is fun and quite challenging. But if the player is willing to let the special weapon button alone, ALLTYNEX Second turns into another game! The game can be absolutely played using only normal shot (and homing, if you like) and then dodging everything that is thrown at you. It seems someone even put alot of effort to make the game so. Bosses have quite amusing (and very hard to dodge) bullet patterns that won't ever be seen if the boss is cheap shotted with swords.

I have very little bad to say about the game. I'd personally liked to see global in game leaderboards (with normal shot only scoreboard). But the absolutely most negative thing about the game is that it isn't receiving the attention it deserves in Steam!

The best Siter Skain game by a mile. Very balanced difficulty and mechanics while having much tighter pacing and level design. Stages tended to drag on in Kamui and RefleX but you never get that feeling here. Scoring system feels very natural and the sword attack (reminiscent of Radiant Silvergun) + special weapons are incredibly satisfying to use. The fully 3D graphics are understated but the game features excellent art direction and impressive effects in certain places. Music is an unabashed tribute to the iconic rocking themes of Hyakutaro Tsukumo from Technosoft fame. Highly recommended to anyone, not just genre fans. (I recommend disabling the shot + sword for special attack command, and the annoying pause when killing enemies with the sword that is enabled by default.)

Heck Yea! This is an awesome 2.5D shooter with a kicka$$ soundtrack that really gets you into the action.
The graphics do seem a little dated, but what this game offers in gameplay and fun factor will be more than enough to keep you playing and enjoying it. :)

Just like in similar shooters, you get your bullet spread and homing lasers but this time you have a freakin' awesome laser cannon that locks onto foes from all angles so you can knock them senseless if they try to be slick and sneak up behind you. :P But I have to say that the laser blade is what does it for me. :D It locks and attacks close range foes at all angles just like the laser cannon and its capable of slicing through most enemy fire. Its almost like a shield and weapon all in one. But it's strong point is when fighting tough foes and bosses and moving in with the laser blade and pounding them down to size! It's awesome!!! xD

This game plays smooth, looks great and is a lot of fun but don't be fooled. This game is not easy! You will find a very good challenge here even on Normal difficulty. Swarms of foes and enemy fire from all angles and crazy camera movements will sometimes make you dizzy trying to catch up to what is happening. LOL. xD

If you are a fan of shooter games, you should definitely try this one. You won't be disappointed. ^ ^

There’s a running duality to all of Siter’s games. KAMUI asks you to dance between twin layers while RefleX has you constantly switch between offense and defence to reflect projectiles back at your enemy. ALLTYNEX’s catch is figuring out whether you’re going to play safe and shoot down things from the edge of the screen or charge in swinging. Be brave, be good or be lucky and boss fights can last seconds as you position yourself in a manufactured safe-spot right in front of their face and hack away. There’s something so satisfying about watching an enemy fighter craft quadruple in size by firing robotic tentacles that latch massive frigates to its sides only to then get effortlessly slashed into scrap regardless. In finding yourself trapped in a corner and realising you can just slice the smaller bullets out of the air and squeeze through the projectile wall unscathed.

The shot system is what makes this game feel unique. Fun gameplay with a beautiful soundtrack like in any other good shmup.

Always bet on Siter Skain.

It is not easy to find modern shoot em ups that keep the quality and enjoyability that had those of the 16-bit era. I have played to many shoot em ups since then and I have found only a few worth playing. Of course Radiant Silvergun, Ikaruga, Gradius V and Gaiden and so on. Alltynex second is clearly worthplaying. It has good graphics, good music and smart gameplay that includes a silvergun-style sword.

As hapens with Ikaruga, it is a bit too short, but I strongly recommend it. By the way, I am enjoying very much Reflex, so I should say that the tales of alltynex package is a good choice.

Siter Skain made another ALLTYNEX game.

And it was very good.

I always worry when I see a beloved 2-D game jump to three dimensions. After some time learning Second, this is still every bit an ALLTYNEX shoot-em-up. My one wish would've been more original boss archetypes; most of these are reused from KAMUI and RefleX. However, because it's a visual jump, I'll forgive it that. The devs probably wanted to make the game play well first. And with that, they surely succeeded.

10/10 Would shmup again.

A+
A short and free modern sidescroller with good graphics, fast-paced gameplay, and challenging but beatable gameplay.

+The entire game is about 20 minutes long, but there's a tremendous amount of replay value in trying for high score achievements.
+The difficulty progression is just right, with the easy first 5 minutes scaling up to a very high difficulty for the last few bosses.
+The blend of melee and range is excellent: it's really necessary to integrate both to do well.

-The only flawis that it's difficult to aim the auto-targetting melee in some fights. The advanced craft's aiming functionality should have been combined into the basic craft to allow optional rotation.

Vertical and horizontal scrolling shoot' em up !

If you ever played raptor in old times or you played KAMUI then you will like this.

Graphics :7/10

Nice ones with 3D graphics, although some models of spaceships are a bit cubic pixelated.

Gameplay: 9/10

One of the best characteristics of this game is the gameplay. A lot of spaceships in the screen to battle in a fast vertical and horizontal scrolling game.
Missiles to lock on and kiss the targets, blade mode to cut off the big momas cookies spaceships ready to leave the oven ^^

Music/sounds: 8/10

Nice music to follow the game. Better than the TADA sound of Windows ;)

Final Score: 8

Better leave with my spaceship if I want to escape from the Void !
Turn on the engines, Zeratul >:(
Departure on the way

I'm used to Shmup and Danmaku, and the first time I played ALLTYNEX Second, I couldn't pass the second level. I thought I was a big noob. Then... I discovered the Blade Mode. Well, that was my fault, to not watching the tutorial and the input settings...

Now, I'm getting used to it, and the Blade mode really adds something to the gameplay. You feel very powerful, slashing ships 10 times bigger than yours. You also eat bullets as if they were your cereals at breakfast. So tasty.
