Steam Cloud Sync Enabled

We are pleased to announce that Steam Cloud support is now enabled for all games in the X series, to bring the older games in line with X Rebirth.

Your savegames will now be synchronised across different PCs using the same Steam account by default.

If you do not wish to use Steam Cloud to synchronise your games, then right-click on the game in question in the Steam library, choose Properties, go to the Updates tab and uncheck the "Enable Steam Cloud synchronization" checkbox setting.

You can, of course, re-enable it at any time if you change your mind.

Regards,

Egosoft

I've got 100hrs on this now, which is way more than most other games I've played. I think I can put forward an honest review, or opinion, on the game without sounding a like total *&6^ by jumping in guns blazing, yeee haaar!!!... which I've done. At this point I have a few decent ships, some credits in the bank, and the game makes sense. I've never played this type of game before.

THE BEST (excuse the capitals) free roaming space game I've played, and I've barely scatched the surface.

If your holding off on playing X3 because you've read or someone warned you of a learning curve then I'd ignore it, slap them in the face and throw and glass of water over your shoulder. There is a lot to learn, not doubting that, but if you just start and mess around then you travel along the curve, there's no need to understand and know about the entire game before you can access it. My experience went as follows;

started game as humble trader
started flight school
got bored of flight school
went wandering off
spend 20 minutes and 4 cups of tea travelling to other sectors
bought some meatsteak cahoonas
wandered off in another direction
tried to figure out what to do with meatsteak cahoonas
looked for an 'eat' or 'grill' button on dashboard
couldn't figure it out kept wandering
three hours pass
finally discovered SATA
bought some energy cells
sold meatsteak cahoonas
went for a sleep

**10/10 would travel again

-----------------More Info, Read On ----OR---- Look Away Now-----------------

The best thing you can do if you ask me (nobody did for the record) is buy and sell energy! cells, nearly everyone in most sectors uses them and it's an easy start to get some credits and explore the game while taking in what the &^&% is going on. I've never played a game that leaves you actually feeling like your inside the game, some do, but with this I actually do just dissapear into the X universe for like day, infact some days I prefer it being here. It's a good place to go if you need a break, take a holliday.

-----------User Interface---------------
(scuse me while I get teknical) It's pretty easy to navigate, and looks good, small text, lots of data, blue text on the cross hair centre bit isn't so clear against some backgrounds, i.e. your flying towards a structure looking to dock and you can't tell how far away you are. Once you get used to hotkeys and can ping menu's up and move around easily, some things you wish could be better like the sector maps on the universe view. ---That's all I've got

----------------Graphics----------------
Despite it being an older game, the graphics are good in my opinion. I mean in most sectors it just a background and then elements like the gate and some stations, so I think they look pretty sharp. Watch out for lag in the menu's if your cards underpowered.

-----------------Combat------------------
Some of the fights you can get into even early on are crazy, 'pew pew Whaaaaaaa!! barrel roll barrel roll barrel roll, 20 mins later *feel sick*, once you can afford slightly better than standard ships (OTAS) and fit some laser cannons it get's fun. I can't comment on later game fights with M1's and huge fleets, I'm not there yet, but I assume multiply fun by factor of 10 or so. It's really up to you how much you kit out a ship, you have to buy from stations things like shields and weapons. Also upgrades for things like acceleration, cargo space and turn speed. Plus, each ship contains a different conbination of all of these things so, combat itself depends on the choices you make plus your skill as a pilot, cool.

-----------------Trading------------------
You could play this game forever and never fire a laser, I think. Trading is a case of buying low and selling high, you find a station thats selling low and then you move around and sell it full price, repeat. Find out who needs what, stations depend on resources in order to produce, increase cargo hold size to make best use of your finance and make sales there and back. More advanced trading involved setting up ships using their onboard software (which you buy from stations) that do automatic trade runs, this I haven't done it. Basically trade within the game get's a lot better once you get your jump drive, before that it's tedious and slow, which will put people off, so, get a jump drive. Once you've travelled into a sector it appears on the map, so you can jump there using a couple energy cells make big sales, buy (*&^, jump somewhere else, bla bla. One annoyance in the game is a certain lack of a lot of stuff, like as in 'sorry we're sold out' signs everywhere, sometime this can be improved by supplying what they need for resources, other times apparently it's just the game.

-----------------Mods-------------------
The only mod's I've installed for this (there's tonns) some are too old and have broken links, but there's good UI mods that's make menu's etc prettier, less round and glossy, and also colour coding text makes it easier to differentiate between factions at a glance. Also real stars and planet backgrounds, that's a must.

---------------Conclusion-----------------
So yea, I don't know where I am with this now, just ranting really, if you like space (space! \0/) and games with a lot of freedom of movement, spreadsheets, data, tiny text, pew pew, then you'll no doubt enjoy X3. For the price that this sells at your getting a ridiculous amount of game for the money, despite it's age. I'll play this for another year or so yet, then look at the albion prelude expansion, then moving onto a newer X (bar the latest, I think).

Simply, THE single-player space game.
Everything else is just not as good as this game. As you can see I played this for quite some time and it still has things to offer, stuff to do.

I love this game. It's so sandboxy and the mods just make you love it even more. Way better than X Rebirth. This is the definitive X-Universe game along with Albion Prelude.
This is the crown jewel of Egosoft. I can't recommend this enough.
