About This Content

The beautiful landscape of the Rhineland-Palatinate comes to life in a stunning new route for Train Simulator.

The 96 kilometre (60 mile) route between Germany’s fourth largest city, Cologne, and one of the country’s oldest cities, Koblenz, runs parallel to the west bank of the Rhine for much of the journey, giving passengers spectacular views across the Rhineland-Palatinate area of West Germany.

The earliest section of the line opened on 15 February 1844 between Bonn and St Pantaleon, Cologne’s former main station. It was then extended in 1856 and 1859 to include Cologne Central Station.

Koblenz is an important interchange in the south for services along the Mosel Valley to France and south to Mainz whilst Cologne is an important local, national and international train hub with more than 280,000 daily travellers frequenting the station. At the midpoint of the route, the former West German capital of Bonn accommodates regular ICE trains that serve much of Germany.

The route forms the southern stretch of Deutsche Bahn’s RE5 ‘Rhein Express’ service, which runs from Emerrich in the north west to Koblenz. Hourly intercity and ICE services, Regio passenger trains and various freight operations also frequent the line. Even the occasional heritage special can be seen in between the busy commuter services.

Medieval towns and castles along the line, plus river barges passing serenely by remind passengers of the historic area they travel through between the two densely urban cities of Cologne and Koblenz. Large freight yards at Bruhl and Bonn-West are also well-known features, as well as the DB Museum at Koblenz-Lützel, which occupies a former depot linked to the main line.

Included with the route is a DB BR 146.0 electric locomotive and Doppelstock (double-decker) coaches forming the RE5 ‘Rhine Express’. A DB BR 294 diesel locomotive with freight wagons and DB BR 101 with passenger coaches also add a variety of services on the route.

Six scenarios for the route:
  • The Day Shift
  • Winter Journey to Remagen
  • Stormy Trip to Bonn
  • Night Drive to Cologne
  • Container Empties to Cologne
  • Freight to Andernach

More scenarios are available on Steam Workshop online and in-game. Train Simulator’s Steam Workshop scenarios are free and easy to download, adding many more hours of exciting gameplay. With scenarios being added daily, why don’t you check it out now!

This DLC here is might be one of the most controversial pieces of DLC released by DTG, plagued by corporate greed and their reuse of old dated content.

The track is about a 90km long track that covers a very nice route between Cologne and Koblenz, the route it's self is plagued by tracking signal and pre-signalling faliures even in quick drive, areas where breaking is not possible properly are not properly shown by signals ahead, for example when using an ICE-T it is not possible to slow down in time for the PZB90 system in order to comply with the 90Km/h speed limitation.

The trains released with this game is a massive disgrace, not just we get the 9th iteration of the BR101, but we get a completely disfunctional re-used content what the old and outdated Metronom pack contains, which is of course more useful (probably thought I don't like it that much).

Important to note that, DTG willingly released a content with 2 trains, the 146.0 and 146.2 with content re-used and recycled from other older trains released, like the Metronom and the TRAXX series 145. You are basically if you own any of these contents you are buying the same content (wich is obviously bugged) for the same damn double price, wich is a massive shame.

The developers willingly cut corners and released these trains with the same stupid interiors and sounds as what those older broken trains had contained, implying newcomers will not notice it and will not complain, but hah! I noticed it DTG, very very sneaky!

Since the content is re-used, the whole point of the game gets dull because the interiors look like crap and they didn't even try to put enough time into creating quality content they thrive to create.

Such a shame from this developer. So much lack of potential, like Mainz and Düsseldorf, but yeah they messed this one up hard.

The track is great but due to the extra redundant content, I can not reccommend it.
I rate this track and content pack about 4 out of 10. [DO NOT BUY UNLESS 60% DISCOUNTED!]
If I would have to rate the trains, they would get 0 out of 10.
And if I would have to rate the track separately, I would give it 9 out of 10.

If you dislike my review, then you are just as pathetic.

This route is simply great! The train is nice and looks like what i looks like in real life. The route is beuatiful along the coast and busy around Colonge/Köln. But there i still a bit things that is bad. You cant go past 20% brake otherwise you loose all your points in the included senarios. 2. The train need more destenation board for senario editors, Such as Bonn-Melhem, Mainz or Wuppertal. Its annoying for senario creators like me that trains cant use proper destenatios according to real life.

But the route is still nice.

I really recommend this route, althought for some people, it might be a disappointment because this is not a LZB route. And thats why I like it. I was really tired of literally doing nothing and watching the train drive itself. The details are good, FPS are ok (I have low end PC)

Route: 90%
Rolling stock: 95%
Price/Quality: 80%

The first look is oke.
But there are a few things missing: No Free Roam option (something I miss and find that is more common with new routes), no scenarios for standaard, which is strange (just career).

this new german route is simply amazing, the route looks awesome and is very detailed. the br146 that comes with it is also a joy to drive and a joy for the eye. this route is a must have for rail fans i think. i have only noticed 1 bad thing that ruin a bit your driving experience, and that is from time to time ( very often ) u got stuttering ( loading-in scenery in background ) while u drive, even on high end systems. but still this route is very beautifull and fun to drive and i would recommended it!

I think this is a really nice piece of DLC. But it isn't perfect.

The scenery is stunning, absolutely beautiful.
All of the station look just as they do in really life
Koln has had a major update since cologne Düsseldorf
The scenarios are so much fun

Very laggy, you will need quite a computer
The sounds on the 146 cab car are very weak and disappointing
The yard work scenario is VERY LAGGY and hard to do, even in easy mode

Out of 10
I think this deserves a 8

Beutiful scenery, but needs a monster computer to run above 30 fps. Koln area is amazing and the rhine is beautiful. Good trains, but the shunting scenario/s are badly made (confusing and highly uninformative)

Good route, some dislikes:

Good Train
Comes very cheap
The DB 189 and 146 are good
Nice Scenarios, possibly a bit easy

Scenarios are good, but a few more harder ones?
the DB 101 is in nearly every single German dlc
I have no scenarios for the ICE trains
The scenery is a bit glitchy, particularly the OHL.
I am only alloweed on the suburban section coming out of Koln
Free roams Please!

Get it with the base game or in a sale because it is cheap but still not as good as other routes.
