Murder Miners X is now using Unity

Development of Murder Miners X is gradually coming along. More pics coming soon. A few weeks ago we decided to make the switch from Unreal Engine 4 over to Unity. This engine uses C# which is much faster/easier to code in, at least for Jonny, especially since he's used to XNA which also uses C# (UE uses C++). Originally we decided on UE4 because we thought it would be the safe choice especially in terms of avoiding networking bugs. But the on-going development of the 3rd-party Unity networking library, Bolt, and the realization of just how much longer coding the game in C++ would take and how much higher the system requirements for a UE4 game would have, has tipped the scales.

Switching to Unity shouldn't have any real impact on how our game will look since we were never going to use the full graphical capabilities of UE4 anyway. Also, possibly the best thing about Unity is that we could have an Xbox 360 version, with UE4 that's impossible. Though if we want this to happen we'll need Microsoft to approve the game for XBLA way before they phase out Xbox Live on 360, which is apparently going to happen in 2016. So we really need to buckle down and get something ready to submit to them sometime later this year. Before then though, we will be giving alpha access to PC pre-orderers, hopefully raising enough funds to purchase Voxel Farm. And after that we'll head to Early Access on Steam and then hopefully to Xbox 360 sometime later, and eventually Xbox One/PS4 and even iOS/Android if this game really takes off.

PC Update #17

This update adds several new player options. You can now turn on/off the following: sprint, fast movement, turbo fire mode (where all weapons fire as fast as you can click your mouse), infinite ammo, and spawn beams. We also lowered the number of players required for achievements down to 6. Also changed the name of Murder Games to YOLO Mode!

About This Game

Murder Miners is the #1 rated Xbox Live Indie Game. After a year of updating the game on Xbox and several months of work porting it to PC, we're finally ready for Steam.

*The game currently does not have split-screen play as shown in the trailer (that's in the Xbox version). We may add split-screen in an update.*

Halo-inspired core gameplay

3-shot-kill pistol included, with new additions such as wall-jumping, unlimited sprint, multi-directional dashing and alt-fire modes.

Unique Infection mode

One player starts as a zombie, hunting down the miners one by one, turning them into zombie teammates. Miners can use the Minergun to build forts, while the zombies can dig through walls and use their tentacle grab to reach higher places or pull miners toward them. Unique to our game is the ability to feast upon the corpses to level up your zombie attributes.

Online co-op map making + completely destructible maps

The Minergun makes map-creation easy and fun. Almost every popular map you can think of has been remade by our community. Share your maps via Steam Workshop.

Don't write this off as some minecraft spin-off. I'd say it's 5% minecraft, 95% Halo. Like I know a lot of people have probably said, it uses block-based maps, and if the host doesn't disable it, you can place and destroy blocks. But a large majority of the time, that's not the focus of the gameplay in the very least. It can be a pretty competitive FPS. Or it can just be a casual game to play with friends, if you're not the competitive type. There's your standard team death match mode, free for all, and capture the flag, which are the competitive modes. And then there's the more laid-back, casual modes in Zombie Survival and Infection. In Infection, all players start out as humans, with one randomly selected player as a zombie. If the zombie kills you, you respawn as a zombie, and the game is over when all the humans are dead. The winner is the player with the most kills. I don't really like it, because it seems like a boring camp-fest, and there's always that one guy that just digs a hole and hides with a shotgun. But overall, this game is really fun. If you like Halo, you'll like this.

The weapons are pretty standard. The sniper, battle rifle, pistol, shotgun, and machine gun are all straight out of Halo. There's also the energy sword, but it works a little differently in this. It doesn't instantly lunge and one-hit-kill like the Halo sword does, but instead has to be charged for 2-3 seconds. Or you can use two weak sword attacks instead. Then there's the hookshot. Basically, it's a grappling hook straight out of batman. Or the hookshot from Legend of Zelda, if you like. Then you've got your frag grenades, which can't kill a full health/shield player, and your plasma grenades, which only kill if you actually stick a player. Everything is pretty well-balanced overall.

In addition to standard fire modes, all weapons have a secondary function or alternate fire mode. The sniper/pistol/battle rifle have scopes. The shotgun camouflages you as the same kind of blocks surrounding you, and the machine gun empties the remainder of its clip at double the normal fire rate. The sword and hookshot don't have alternate fire modes.

Then, there's the miner gun. It can break single blocks, a 1x3 grid of blocks, or a 3x3 grid of blocks at a time. It also has a "Blaster" mode that requires time to charge, but releases a slow-moving explosive projectile. It can also be changed to "building" mode and used to place blocks, for mapmaking purposes, or building cover to hide behind.

Anyway, there's a lot of different things you can do in this game, and for $1.99, it's an investment you probably won't regret. If this sounds like something that would interest you, don't second-guess yourself. Buy it and come play with the rest of the community!

This is literally Halo mixed with minecraft. There is no other way to say it. The weapons are literally named the exact same.
And I love it. If you loved Halo you will most defintly love this.

Upon initially glancing upon the storepage, the screenshots (all of which are adorned with quotes in white text, placed in order to accentuate the fact that games such as this were made for enjoyment) resemble something your little cousin would draw shortly after being exposed to the world of gaming. Infatuated with this new platform for his vices, and unaware of the harsh realities of life, he shows you a sketch of what appears to be an amalgamation of Minecraft and Halo. You ruffle his hair patronisingly and drop to one knee, to look him in the eye; tears now streaming down your rugged face, because a realisation has just hit you. Your beloved cousin will inevitably get the ♥♥♥♥ kicked out him in the near future. What if this seemingly silly idea was brought to life though, thought the onlookers who happened to be the future developers of Muder Miners? Truth be told, hypothetical cousin is still receiving an ♥♥♥-whooping the second he starts kindergarten, but the game itself is great.

9/10--Community's a little quiet but the gameplay is super fun and leans itself better to smaller games anyway. For $2 y'all should get it while it's luke-warm. (Or better yet, dish out an extra $3 for three copies for friends.)

*note* I've played this for like 5+ hours but my 'hours played' thing glitched for some reason.

-Generally friendly community
-Very tight gunplay
-Grappling hook is a nice touch to combat
-Infection mode alone is a decent enough reason to buy this
-Detailed colour customisation for your character

-Really tiny community (8-15 people online at a time on PC)
-Not the prettiest game around
-Not worth $5 in my opinon (so get it for 99c while you can)
-Deathmatches can be a bit difficult for newer players
-There is this one player who is a regular named GET_GOOD, he is a ♥♥♥♥♥♥ and swears at everyone through chat and tells them all to 'get good'

SCORE: 7.5/10 would recommend for 99c.

Fast-paced yet accessible gameplay. A lot of people say this is similar in gameplay to Halo 2 and I can see it. A friend bought this for me and I've been playing it more than I thought I would :)

ESPECIALLY for two bucks - recommended for any twitch fps fan.

What are you doing reading this, for another (as of writing) 13 days this is £0.75, BUY IT NOW.

Seriously, this is the best cheap game anyone can buy, it is one of the few games on the xbox "indie" store that is actually any good. It seems like a rip-off of Halo and minecraft (both inspirations for the dev), but it is more than that, it is one of those games that is more than the sum of its parts. The weapons in the game are extremely satisfying, more so than some major titles, each with its own character (my personal fav is the shotgun, which allows you to camoflage and become a stack of blocks). Combat is sound, not outstanding in its mechanics, but extremely fun and entertaining. The game has more gamemodes than you need, all of which are great (infection stands out), Users can make new maps and upload them for use, allowing (over time) for a nigh infinite amount of replayability, as of writing it has an active player base (within 5 minutes of hosting a server i had over 10 people), and most of this playerbase is friendly and helpful.
I cant say anymore as i do not want to ruin the fun, if your looking for a great game to play with friends, look no further than this, a 4-pack is only (again as of writing) is only £2.02, which is ridiculously worth it. Id be more than willing to pay £20 for this game, and its only £0.75 (£6.99 at full price), no other game will give you as much satisfaction at such a great price, ill see you in-game :)

EDIT: it says something about a game when the only negative reviews are for a lack of players, which has been fixed, and is on the rise.

I've personally played the XBLA verson of this game, and I loved it sooo much. When I heard it was coming to Steam, I had a mini panic attack. I do have to admit, this game may have some sensitive controls, but when you get used to it... it'll be worth it. I overall recommend this game to EVERYONE. This is an amazing combination of Minecraft, Halo, and Parkour. It has an amazing concept, and... just get it! I promise you, you'll love it.

You can use a grappling hook to take a man out of his helicoptor, punch him to death, steal the helicopter, and kill 30 zombies with flaming rockets where zombies can not hit you and Halo Spartans can try. Hope they don't have grappling hooks.

This game is amazing. The graphics are a bit poor, but there are many gamemodes, amazing weapons, lovely vehicles and mechanics, sick maps, and just an all around 20 dollar game for 2 dollars. ♥♥♥♥ lunch at Micky D's, get this game.

Final Verdict: Buy if you have any interest at all.

( This was initially a negative review. The developers have since fixed the awful mouse aiming bug and have been very helpful in general. Thank you! )

I was excited to buy this game, expecting Halo 3 PC with minecraft visuals and sandbox elements. That's more or less what I got, and though there are a couple of problems that bother me, I still enjoy this game.

Rarely you'll join a match and some packets will be dropped/malformed along the way, breaking something here or there. In team deathmatch you might not be able to see who your teammates are but can still kill them. You might also receive and error and be forced to reconnect.

Laggy players will teleport and jitter wherever they go and be very difficult to hit. All the while they are pouring bullets into you. This happens even if you have a good connection, it's the fault of individual players unless you have a bad connection to the host. I never have.

I will update this review if I learn that any of these issues have been fixed. Everything considered I still recommend this game, moreso considering the low price. Special thanks to the developers who reached out to me in order to improve their game.

Like Halo but don't own an Xbox and/or don't want to play Halo 1 or 2? Buy this game!! This game is a lot like Halo and it's very enjoyable. I know the blocky astectics may turn some off of the game, especially with a lot of games taking this style recently, but you shouldn't just pass it on for that reason. The gameplay is fun, and the maps look nice and are very ammusing. Hey, the game is only $4.99 so why pass the opertunity to play a great game? With more of you guys buying this, the better it will get with the implementation of Steam Workshop! Go ahead and buy this now!

One thing that almost no one mentioned is that this game has a strong 90's feel, and I love it! It's fast paced and lots of fun, without being complicated, just like the good old days. Murder Miners is also a perfect game for parties - you can play for hours without noticing and will always come back for more!

The guys at JForce Games really care about their product and always provide updates and new features, not to mention dozens of maps (even remakes from other FPS games!) and Steam Workshop support. For this price you can't go wrong. Totally worth your money and time!

This is a really good game but somehow I still feel it hasn't been finished.
I'd love more incorporation with the vehicles and this game is well worth a $2 and is a complete bargain at $1.

Extreme fun to play with friends.

This game is a whole lot of fun with friends specifically on the Murdermatch gamemode. I think it is worth way over five dollars and could get really popular in the indie game community if they updated graphics and stuff like that. I love that there is a weapon called the Hookshot where you can pretty much just swing around the map like Attack on Titan or Spiderman. I can imagine that this game was coded very well. It isn't just Halo and Minecraft put together Grant. It's a lot more.
