So as a trained mechanic and a general gearhead, I figured I just had to pick this up.

However, after going through the first four or five jobs, I gotta say:

---I recommend this as a puzzle game, but not as a "simulator" or educational game---

Pick it up if it's on sale - it's fun to fiddle around with and see how fast you can find the problem. But the game is far, far away from simulating the really important things about being a mechanic.
I guess if the devs implemented a few more challenges like stuck bolts, and the need to use the right amount of force (and maybe to pick the appropriately sized tools for the task), this would be much more challenging. I'd love to see that implemented, maybe by dragging the mouse to keep a "torque bar" in the green area or something.

+ you get to learn about lots of car parts and what they do
+ it's fun to figure out what the problem is
+ sometimes you get one symptom with several causes - just like in real life. Very good.
+ sometimes, you can fix parts instead of replacing them. That's something many real life garages seem to have forgotten.

So why am I giving it a thumbs down?

Some of the most basic and most important things about fixing cars are missing. The game reduces disassembly and assembly to clicking a few bolts:
- No torque requirements for bolts in sensitive places.
- No stuck bolts that you can break off.
- No need to pick the correct tool for the task.
- No caveats where order of disassembly is important because of the mechanics or the electrical systems. You're either prevented from making mistakes, or the things that would be mistakes in real life don't matter. The worst I've seen so far: I can rip out the starter without even disconnecting the battery - now there's a recipe for disaster.

Other cons:

- the real life challenge of saving time by disassembling as few things as possible in order to get to the damaged part is missing. Maybe it comes in at a later stage of the career, but as far as I've played, you can happily rip apart the whole car if you feel like it without any financial repercussions.

- Different versions of the same part for different model years? Multiple vendors with different price and quality levels? Delivery times? Everything that makes the "parts" part of a mechanic's business challenging is missing.

A nice concept, and one I was hoping would be fun and help me learn a bit more about cars than I already knew. Sadly, the difference between the car in game and a real car is seriously just enormous. The only way this could be a solid game is if at least all of the parts of a car that aren't chassis, interior, and automatic transmission were correctly modeled and there were at least several variations to encounter, or the game at least had an interesting metagame that rewarded efficiency. Instead, it's seriously just a super simplified engine, suspension, exhaust and fuel systems, and that's it. Basically just a rough approximation of a car. You'll do the same three or four things over and over and you almost don't even need to read the scenario information, just find the grubby looking part and replace it. The game trailer says there are around 150 parts in the game, what they aren't telling you is around 130 of them are screws.

The money in-game is seriously worthless because there is no metagame, at all. None. So, no matter what you do, efficiency is irrelevant. Buying used parts is a waste of time, even good used parts aren't counted as 'good' parts for the repair. Selling off the old parts from each scenario is a pain, not to mention worthless. The diagnostic track seriously does nothing; no matter what is wrong with the car it is the same every time, you just magically know what's wrong after wasting your time driving around. Which is something you are often required to do for no reason even if you know what to fix because it's included in the scenario objectives. The music is good for about twenty seconds, after which it becomes patently awful.

Overall, the fun petered out after about two hours and eventually I realized that the game isn't ever going to get any more complex, approaching that of a real car. New garages don't matter because the car and its problems are always the same, the extra space is actually annoying. The game is more of a tech demonstration than a game, I would expect it to be nearly free, so I'm glad I got it at a significantly reduced price.

I really enjoy this game, the only thing I can fail it on is overall realism. Some of the things inside of the engine and car are either not named correctly, do not look like that in real life, or overall do not exist. There are the following.

-Nice graphics
-Educational and teachers core basics of light motor vehicle repair.
-Has a cool sound track.
-A diverse variety of cars modeled closely to resemble some real world brands like Ford, VW, Vauxhall and more.
-Is fun.

-Unrealistic models for certain parts of the engine.
-No difference in engines, their all the same pretty much.
-Some of the jobs can be just damn right tedious.
-Limited sound track.
-Unrealistic part names, and uses.
-No air powered tools, you relay on good old spanners.
-Does not teach some core basics such as torque settings when putting wheels back on, or correct tensions for the serpentine belt etc.

Incredibly dull and repetitive after the first few cars. It's the exact same car for 20 levels then the same one for another 20, and all you do is buy a part, spend 5 minutes hovering your mouse over bolts with no variation in routine, and replace it (and occasionally save a few bucks by pressing x to repair a part instead). There is pretty much no way to mess up, you can't do anything interesting (like maybe steal parts or something) and I (being someone who knows nothing about cars) am fairly sure nothing even happens at all when you run it through the course or diagnostic machine.

Maybe it gets better after you reach the third garage, but no. Not even worth the two bucks.
