This is the Extended Edition. By extended, They mean, take a 15 year old game that worked perfectly before, somehow make it looks worse, and make it completely unplayable on anything but a supercomputer.

Kudos devs.

Aah, Age of Mythology
I've played this game since I was 9 years old. I could remember the first time I put in the CD and saw the game I would play the next 4 years. I loved it, played it for days, alone and with friends. Until I lost the CD. 2 Years after the loss I met Steam, and saw that they made the Extended Edition. So, like I always do, waited until christmas and bought it in the Winter Sale. And all the memories came back to me, and started playing it again. And apparently I never stopped loving this game. Every time I click on the PLAY button I still feel the memories coming back to me.

10/10 wouldn't forget the background music again.

I love this game, it's one of my all time faorites. However it hasn't launched in months and this is a problem people have been having for a long time.

8 Random Matches - Matched against Fu Xi as a diety every time. Game forces you to either buy the DLC or to quit the game due to "Incompatible units" as the AI is using units restricted to DLC owners.

I wish Steam could send my money back, because this game is not working for at least 6 months.
And this one is very expensive.
Do not buy until they fix the problems, you cannot even open the game.

Great game, but this extended edition performs badly; it's not well optimized. Could run all of the other AoE, as well as the original AoM, just fine but this one takes a dip in framerates just by scrolling through the map.

If you experience slowness/reduced framerates, you can try some of the methods mentioned by others (ensure you're not running in integrated graphics if you have a dedicated card, run in the lowest resolution, turn off water refraction and shadows). This kind-of helped, slightly, but the game's frequent frame-drop just makes it unplayable.

Should be a good game but is ruined by how badly the ai was revamped in this patch; the ai either cheats ridiciulously or is completely useless. Even on normal the ai will field legions at you at 10 minutes.

When they first announced the upcoming dlc, I was joyful, the AoE 2 dlc was pretty good, but when it came out, i lost all will to purchase it, not even only that, it also broke the game. Ever since the dlc came out, I haven't been able to play a single AoM game online with friends, either it won't connect or it will lag so bad we just ragequit.
A real shame, I think i'm just going to go back to Age of empires 1 if i want to play with cavemen, at least that game doesn't lag in multiplayer...

As you can see I've quite a bit of playtime on this game so clearly I do enjoy playing it. However the review system on steam is "Do you recommend this game?" And there I say no. But do I recommend it to previous Age Of Mythology and Titans expansion players? Yes.

This game is great fun especially if you play a lot of scenario maps, classics like escape are always good fun or tower defence. I barely ever play the base game my self I always play user generated game modes and while they are VERY good they are subject to the same bugs and crashes and flaws as the rest of the game. The desync bug seems very rare now for several months I havent had it but maybe thats just my luck. That said random crash to desktops can happen upon starting a match online. Some people report issues with running the game, even when they have a good hardware setup. It has been fine for me. I actually play in 1440p maxed capping my self at 60fps it seems to never drop without good reason.

Most of the time I play without these crashes but when it does happen it is extremely frustrating as you can wait some times half an hour to fill a lobby with people. (online is not dead but its a small and close community.)

So the run down is fans of the original, especially scenario players, will be happy with being able to play all of the new scenarios which are being developed by the same people who did all those years ago on AOM Heaven.

Fans who played the original and mostly played supremacy and the occasional scenario like world map are still catered for but will not see much difference apart from the new OP chinese gods (they are the new atlantis). Though desyncs dont really happen now you may still get random crashes on launching a match.

Those who never played before well it's a good rts even its base game supremacy mode which im still just as bad at is pretty fun and there are a lot of new players who play supremacy so you wont be alone. But you learn how buggy the game can be. Not so much in gameplay but stability. You may be better off with the original game using some third party software for online. Though if you do that the people you will play are going to be experienced players.

Either way I think if you're going to buy this wait until there is a sale. It drops all the time during every major sale to quite a low price. And during those times instead of seeing 20-50 people in the general lobby during peak times you will see over 100 because of all the noobs. So its a good time to start and will save you some money.

Don't buy this at full price.

Age of Mythology, Age of Empires, Rise of Nations.... My favorite childhood games... My memories come back when I press start and I play a really great match against the computer or a player!! I remember when I had these games when I was a little child and using cheats... But later when these HD Editions or Extended Edition birth I stopped playing them... There were no sites where I can download them and yeah.... Now these wonderful memories come back in my mind. Now I have these games on Steam with the DLCs that I never got until now.
I really want new DLCs and great updates to be created like, a DLC about ancient Rome, Sparta or Transylvania.

-This is an excellent game with an amazing soundtrack. It offers a slightly simpler and more "noob friendly" version of Age of Empires. Pathfinding, response times, and many other elements of the gameplay are improved from Age of Empires. The Campaigns are great and offer a lot of playing time while still being enjoyable the second or third time through. It is very fun to play by yourself, with friends, or online.
-I will admit that the HD edition has a variety of problems including extremely common disconnects in local games. It is kinda sad that they would charge so much for the Chinese expansion, but it is a good game, nonetheless.
-I have played this game long before it was released on steam and I highly recommend it.

I played again this awe retro game. Now at 2560 x 1080 resolution and I really liked.
I could ended the campaing mode in less time but since I played it before, I expended a lot of time scouting each map again. So I can say I had zero glitches and it runned smooth.
I totally recomend this game.
