About This Game

Tower of Guns is a fast paced first-person-shooter for the twitch gamer... with a few randomized elements to keep it fresh with each playthrough. It's a short burst "Lunch Break FPS"... not unlike Binding of Isaac mixed with Doom 2. Tower of Guns was made by a guy named Joe (with his brother Mike composing the music).

Key Features

  • SINGLE SITTING FULL EXPERIENCE: For all of those who have too many games (or too little time) this is a game you can pick up and play again and again, without remembering where you were or what you were up to. If you're gonna win, you're gonna do it within an hour or two. That's a big if though... it won't be easy.
  • ALWAYS A FRESH EXPERIENCE: Random enemies, random powerups, random bosses, tons of unlockable items and weapons...even random-level compositing! You never know what to expect when you sit down in front of Tower of Guns.
  • CRAZY POWERUPS: You've played first person shooters where you can double jump, but have you played any game where you can centuple-jump? You can in Tower of Guns, with the right items.
  • GUN-MODIFYING MADNESS: Do you like rocket launchers? You'll like them more if you're lucky enough to stumble upon a "shotgun" modifier. A rocket-launching shotgun is very satisfying. Mix and match your gun with a dozen different Gun Mods!
  • OLD-SCHOOL TACTICS: For the fans of the faster shooters, it's all back. Circle strafe your way to glory at insane speeds; Tower of Guns is all about moving fast!

System Requirements

    • OS: Windows Vista/7
    • Processor: 2.4 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo (Dual-Core)
    • Memory: 3 GB RAM
    • Graphics: NVidia Geforce 275 GTX +512mb memory
    • DirectX: Version 9.0c
    • Hard Drive: 2 GB available space
    • Sound Card: windows compatible sound card
    • Additional Notes: Warning: This game is CPU/GPU intensive. There are a lot of bullets. It is stable on older Nvidia cards (8800 era), but the framerate made for a sub-optimal experience.

A roguelite fps designed to be hard as nails, but completable in less than 3 minutes- not to mention endless runs that can span hours of explosive and exciting gameplay. The game was designed to be playable by multiple audiences, speedrunners, casuals, etc can all find enjoyment out of the game. It's designed to be a game you play while on a lunch break or between other playthroughs, and it really, truly is (which is fairly uncommon in my opinion). Great game. Stop reading. Buy it.

MAAAAAN this game is fun, So many ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ items in this first person shooter and I felt like I couldn't have enough, there were some crazy things happening, Only bad is that some items had limits, boring. Challenging, fun, and hillarious, if you like first person rouge-like platformer(ish) games.
Please fix the secret achievement though, can't bloody get it.

There was a moment the first or second time I tried this game where I actually felt breathless after going through a room. The sheer frantic level of action needed by this game is amazing, and the fact that the levels are semi-random and every playthrough is different just makes this one of the most fun first person shooters I've ever played. The humor is very off-kilter (I love that the 'story' behind the tower is as randomized as the levels, including a version where the story is actually the randomized story of the levels), the action starts out at intense and ratchets up - the weapons are fun, the items are crazy; in a lot of ways it's reminiscent of MDK, but amped up even more. It's as much a platformer as a FPS, which is in its favor. It's like FPS meets Binding of Isaac, in the best possible sense. I absolutely love it. I've only chalked up one win (and that wasn't even a full win, just the easy way out), but this is one I'll come back to over and over again.

Most fun I've had in a video game for a while.

Tower of guns let's you pick one of many varying guns and one perk at the beginning of every playthrough, and the levels are randomly put together, so each time it's a whole new experience. Then you shoot things and try not to die, while working your way to the top of the tower. AND IT IS SO MUCH FUN.On top of that, the game has a charming artstyle and a wealth of content to unlock and secrets to find.

It doesn't take very long to either win or die, so it's a great game to play if you only have a small window of time to play in.

Normally when I get into a game I can tell what I do and dont like about it. However, in the case of Tower of Guns, I am stumped. For the first time ever I can't figure out why I dont want to play this game. I have an OK time when I play it but I just dont want to.

Maybe there just isn't enough here? Maybe its the controlls? Or maybe its the feeling like Im accomplishing nothing....

Whatever it is, I know that I dont want to play this game longer than the 2 hours I already have. Take that for what you will.

P.s. I normally love rouge like games like rouge legacy and risk of rain or heavy bullets. : o

First-person shooter with rogue-like elements. Collect bonuses and earn better weapons by completing challenges. You can finish a run in 40 minutes, but you will definitely need more than one run. Prepare to be frustrated when you die.

This isn't really a review of the game (which I very much liked) but of the developer.

I had a small issue with installing the game after a patch. Specifically, my virus protection read some file as a threat. It had never done that before, so I panicked and posted something angry because I am a hotheaded jerk on the internet. Well, the developer was on top of it in a flash...literally. My post was up for about 5 minutes before s/he calmly informed me of the obvious, which is that it was a false positive, evident by the fact that I was the only one reporting it. (I run a tight ship on my PC, but I do use a weird virus program...never had a problem before now.) S/he walked me through some steps, even sending me a replacement for the single file causing the trouble.

Anyway, the game is great. But in our days of kickstarters and early access, it is a common sight to see developers and the communities at each others throats. I gotta support a team or individual who realizes that today, maybe unfortunately, game development includes a service aspect. And I was the irrate and unreasonable customer.

10/10 Would buy from again.

Styled very much like a classic arena FPS, except it's you versus all sorts of spikey, explodey, shooty contraptions, not other players or AI bots. The game moves fast and smooth, a necessity for this style of run-and-shoot twitch shooter, and plays equally well with KB+M or controller. Love the cel shaded artwork and the weird "alien factory" type design of the game world. There's also a good sense of humor that is thankfully never overdone. I had no idea what to expect in this one and it has turned out to be one of my favorite 2014 games to date, a half hour at a time adrenalin rush that I've kept installed on all my computers since the game was released.

I have fallen in love in just a weekend.

Tower of Guns is like traveling back in time, but everything is better than you remember. You've got an FPS game that actually has guns not modeled off real-life weaponry, but instead over-the-top creative concepts. You not only have the ability to jump without needing to press your knees against a wall and vault over, but you can jump to your wildest dreams. No stop-and-pop cover-hugging here, get your ♥♥♥ out there soldier. Or grandmother. Or 80's gamer. Because even the storyline is randomly generated.

I normally try to be fair and critical in my reviews, but I can't help but rave here. A little indie game took me in its arms and told me that FPS was still alive and circle-strafe-bunnyhopping in the clouds, and I didn't have to wait for it to come back down. I could pick up 3 jump height boosts and reach it in 7 jumps. It's taken me longer than planned to write this review, beacuse it was hard to pull away.

Alright, minor rants. Some areas are too dark to easily spot enemies, but there's still more color variety than Borderlands. Twerp bots can be annoyingly hard to hit. I want to hold more than one gun. Some area generation can have bugs.

Screw this, I'm back to playing it. I'd recommend it at full price for anyone that enjoyed Quake or Unreal games. Yes, Doom didn't have jumping, and I grew up on that game. But we had to learn to walk before we could centuple-jump. Enter the Tower already...

*Smooth UT style shooting, strafing and jumping
*Frantic action full of explosions and killer robots
*Great cel shaded graphics and matching quirky, guitar-heavy soundtrack
*Enough unlockables, secret areas and randomized elements to make each run unique
*A genuinely funny assortment of story lines
*A little rough around the edges, e.g., collision issues and falling through the world
*Sometimes the difficulty can be a bit frustrating, but that's standard with bullet hell games

Overall Tower of Guns is a spectacular one-man project that deserves the attention of anyone that enjoys roguelikes and old-school shooters. I've been playing the game since it was in beta and the developer has done a great job of consistently improving the game and is very open and responsive about its development.

PS If you enjoy Joe's writing he also has a very funny book called The Armpit of Evil available on Amazon.

Tower of Guns is a bullet hell roguelike fps, and that is just as awesome as it sounds. The game follows a similar structure to Risk of Rain, where you progress through levels and it gets more difficult as you continue. You can play normal mode which ends after you defeat the final boss or endless mode which just keeps turning up the dials until you die. Levels start out pretty tame but can reach the point where walking into a room instantly spawns 100 or more flying enemies while 10 turrets rapidly fire projectiles everywhere. This is the only game I have ever played where dropping down to 20 fps or below made me say "That was ♥♥♥♥ing awesome" rather than "This game is an unoptimized piece of ♥♥♥♥."

The game has a great sense of humor with all sorts of strange items to find and a great Borderlands-esque are style, with some very strange music to go along with it. I thought it was an odd choice at first but it all fits together very well. You will enjoy your journey through the tower of guns while you dodge bullets, shoot enemies, and search for the craftily-hidden secrets which there are many of. You can also stack powerups to ridiculous levels (octa-jump anyone?)

So play this game, you will not regret it!

I have played many Roguelikes, and played many First Person Shooters, but I have not played many First Person Roguelike Shooters. It is a small collection of games to be sure, but it is seeing increased popularity in recent years, in part due to the game Paranautical Activity, among others; others, such as this, Tower of Guns. Although it is apparent that there is still a ways to go before we can get the true, full blooded FPS experience from procedurally generated games, what Tower of Guns is showing is that we really aren't that far off.

I truly believe in the potential of this game, and what is already here is beyond great; it sets a benchmark for what can be done in the future, it's future, as well as the future of others. The guns are all unique and the movement, while a bit weird when interacting with certain situations, works. The verticality of ascenscion from one room to the next is believable, and feels like it fits within the confines of whatever mammoth you happen to be scaling, and it helps that the room designs are intriguing, and full of secrets. If there is another thing to be said that needs to be said, it's that you have played this game before. Well, not this game, but you can identify certain elements of other games that this game is brimming with. It's quite a Quake of them, actually, and this isn't a typically good thing; in this case though, it is very much a good thing.

You will feel right at home with the controls if you are a veteran of the old school of FPS, and will certainly appreciate the need for movement in order to survive; staying in one place while Knee Deep in the Combat of ToG will be your DOOM. It is certainly Unreal the level of chaos that you will encounter in most situations, but you know what, it's a good thing; and in fact, this game is a good thing. So good, that while I could write on about the personality that this game has, from the music to the art and dialouge, I feel only the need to say one more thing: Tower of Guns is a milestone in game development; and it was all thanks to mainly one man, Joe Mirabello. So here is my reccomendation, and my sincere wish: Joe, continue making games; and to everyone else, please, buy this game. I highly recommend it :)

It pushes the line between Doom, Bullet Hell, and roguelike. It shows its totally random action off well.

While fun, even with the random changes in enemies and enviroment being well-varied; it still ends up rather dull or boring with long play sessions.

I got my dollars worth, for sure.
