I'm a longtime World of Warcraft player, but even longer Final Fantasy fan, so trying this game for me was an interesting amount of mixed feelings. Being tired and bored with Mists of Pandaria, having completed much of the endgame, Dranor was too far away, I ended it.
(I've played since Vanilla age, so it's been a long ride of ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ if you know what I mean. Especially with raiding guilds now a days.)
One of my old friends had been telling me about this game for a while, and claimed it was amazing, the usual generic shpeal.
I figured, why not, what's the harm?
First night playing the game, I took a good ten minutes just staring at the starting screen and character creation, it's quite nice with the amount of options we get. While I wouldn't say it could be as godtier as EvE or Conan, it's still better than "Pick from 4 hairstyles and ♥♥♥♥ty colors" While creating a character I noticed just how clean and fluid the animations where, the character really seemed.. alive.
Entering the first town, I watched the environment shift from an awesome sunset with shadows being cast over the hills and valley's this town sat in, and fireflies slowly sparkle with the dusk and night to follow. Players ran from here to there, I roamed around doing starter quests and discovered the first market area, an actual market with actual trading and people being "Kind" to one another, shocking for an MMO right?
Every quest character gives full dialogue and reason, it isn't just a slab of text and it sends you off to do X or kill X, even though every quest is such. While fighting I enjoyed many of the animations for skills, I chose Archer as my class, I'm still enjoying my pick.
Then I found out I can multi-split into several jobs to create a super class, this made me even more excited. You can be everything and anything if you spend the time, gear is another story entirely, but I do look forward to my quest on becoming a Bard.
I'm still new to this game, but only a few hours of it and I'm hooked, it just has a nice relaxing feeling with that real dark forshadowing of a Final Fantasy game to it, I look forward to the possibility. I don't care if anybody reads this review, likes it or not, I mainly have it for friends of mine to follow if they so choose.
If you want a colorful beautiful vivid MMO to play and not want to play the creepyness of Tera, this is it for you.
(By creepyness, I mean the little loli's that run about. In this game, you get posh british lepers)
I would trade my years of WoW for all the Gil, and gear of this game, it holds the charms and feeling of a community that WoW once did, and I've tried on plenty of the servers.
FF14ARR seems to have gained a lot of players from all sorts of old and outdated MMO's, perhaps this is the next hotspot? Who knows.
Enjoy it either way.
Do you like Cat girls?
Do you? Do you? Do you? Are you ready? Are you READY?
Good, there's a ♥♥♥♥ton of them.
