Ys is a new nation that comes from Ker-Ys that was once the most splendid city in the world. Long ago Ker-Ys was sunken far beneath the waves to protect the Tuatha living there and has not been seen since then. Now with the coming of the new god the city has risen from beneath the waves and the splendor of the bronze-walled city has returned for all to witness. In addition to a new nation there has been work to ensure that really huge battles run smoothly as well as many balance changes, mostly by tweaking the costs of units. There are also the usual bug fixes and some minor new features.

This is a small bug fix update that mainly fixes a few annoying bugs with modded game that were introduced in version 4.23.

General

  • Fix for caster only losing a limb when he should die instead

In Dominions you take control of a powerful being that rules a nation and aspires to godhood. The type of Pretender Gods can vary from magically powerful arch mages to huge titans or large monuments. The pretender gods have different strengths dependent on what kind of god you choose and what nation you play.

When you start the game you decide what kind of god you are and how your Dominion affects your lands and followers. It is an expression of your divine might and the faith of your followers. If your dominion dies, so do you. Your dominion also inspires your sacred warriors and gives them powers derived from your dominion.

In order to win and become the one true god you have to defeat your enemies one of three different ways: conquer their lands, extinguish their dominion or claim the Thrones of Ascension.

In Dominions 4 you can also play team games where one of the players take the role of supreme god, and the other members of the team are his servants and loyal subjects. The lesser gods rule their nations, but you all share the dominion of the supreme god.

Dominions is set in a fantasy world that draws inspiration from historical nations, cultures and myths. You will not encounter the elves of conventional fantasy in this game. Instead you might lead a nation of vanir from old norse myth. Aztecs, romans, israelites, greeks, shona and kievian rus are just a few of the inspirational sources of the game.

The first Dominions game was released in 2002 and was well received by strategy gamers. Since then Dominions has been much refined and Dominions series is still actively played making it one of the longest running 4x turn based strategy games.

Dominions 4 is also a highly moddable game. You can create your own monsters, spells and entire nations. Since Dominions 3 there has been a vivid modding community and Dominions 4 will enhance this capability even further.

This game = Civilizations + Mythological nations and creatures, with less "national management" and more "war/battle management."

The lore of this game is absolutely phenomenal, and the amount of research needed to produce this game must have been quite a task to accumulate.

Look, if you're averse to reading, you probably wont like this game. If you can get over the low res textures, this game will blow you away.

Someone bought me this game to be fair, but I liked it so much, I bought multiple copies for other friends.

If you really want to experience a "god-game," then the Dominions series is pretty much the only option. Literally hundreds of spells and units, incredibly customizable deities, and a nice modding community that offers even more content. The developer still updates the game despite several years after release, with some of these updates adding more playable empires and more god-creation options.

The core game design is the reason for Dominion 4's compelling nature. Yes, it has tons of stats and features lots of micromanagement especially towards the end game, but this is the cost of offering a surprisingly flexible game experience. One can min-max the hell out of this game, but the interesting and fleshed out empires also allow emergent narratives and roleplaying, should you choose to pursue this style of play.

So whether you want a deep strategy game that has solid mechanics, or you simply want bang for your buck, Dominions is definitely worth checking out.

在玩儿了几年之后我决定写下我的第一篇评测来给大家介绍下这游戏.
首先,这游戏没有中文,而且看样子未来也不会出(想要汉化这游戏的确有点儿难).所以如果你想玩儿这个游戏,那么你需要懂一些英文,当然不需要很高的英文水平,大概初中左右就足够玩儿这个游戏了.所以语言应该不是什么问题.
其次介绍下游戏本身.

这款游戏比较特别.玩家要在游戏中控制一个国家,并且为这个国家建立一个"候选神".整个游戏的目标就是干掉其他候选神的国家,成为全世界唯一的真神.

游戏系统类似文明,英雄无敌这样的回合制,但是又不太相同.在国家层面上,你可以在每个回合下达指令,控制军队的移动,部队的征召,魔法的研究等等.不过和英雄无敌那样你一回合我一回合的轮流过回合不同,这游戏的回合是大家一起递交的.即,每个人都设置好这个回合要做的事情,然后递交给电脑,电脑来计算这一回合发生了什么.

打个比方,我设置军队去A地,而另外的一个国家也派了一个军队到A地,这样一场战役就在A地打响了.有趣的是,你无法像英雄无敌那样实际去操控这场战役,而是需要事先设置军队的阵型,兵种的组合,魔法的施放等来影响一场战役.而电脑会根据双方的设置来模拟这场战役,玩家会在回合结束后观看这场战役的回放,得到战役的结果.



这款游戏另外的一个特色在于丰富的文化背景.游戏中的各个国家都是以我们实际世界中的各国神话发展而来的.包括了北欧的神话,希腊的神话,日本,中国,印度,印第安,玛雅还有阿兹特克,非洲等地的神话背景.除此之外,还有克苏鲁背景的国家R'lyeh. 游戏里还有海量的独特单位,从普通的人类农民,士兵到北欧神话里的巨人,龙,泰坦,囊括了世界各地传说里的生物.



下面再说下这款游戏最大的乐趣所在--对战.

我花费在这个游戏里的几百个小时,绝大部分都是在和其他玩家对战.这正是这游戏最大的乐趣.

由于每一局游戏最后只能有一个胜利者,所以每个玩家实际上都是敌人,但是有些时候为了共同的利益暂时也会成为盟友.这就为多人游戏创造了非常复杂的外交情况.而实际上,游戏里是没有外交系统的,所有的外交都是玩家之间通过口头协定来达成.即使有玩家答应做你的盟友,也可以在下回合派军队突袭你.所以,在和其他玩家进行谈判的时候推测他的真实想法是很重要的,因为每个人都是心怀鬼胎.通常过一个回合只需要一两个小时就够了.但是在下个回合到来之前,与其余的玩家在线下进行谈判,交涉,通过许诺好处来拉拢这个国家和你一起打那个国家,通过制造某国的威胁论来制造包围网遏制该国的发展,明面上和某国结盟又暗地里和其对手互通有无,或者坐看他国互殴自己收渔翁之利.---整个游戏最大的乐趣就在于此,真的会让你乐此不疲.

关于联机,这个游戏一般是通过古老的,玩家上传,下载回合文件的形式进行对战,也可以直接联机对战.可以设置回合的时间,24h一回合或者48h一回合.如果你玩儿过老式的英雄无敌邮件局,就会知道我在说什么(现在的新玩家可能不太习惯这种古老的游戏方式).

最后要说的是,这个游戏画面很渣,很古老.如果是对画面有要求的玩家也许不太会喜欢.但是游戏有许多其他出色的地方.
总的来说,我觉得是一款非常小众,但是非常非常有趣的游戏.

Great game, only game I'm playing now. No twitch, all thought. You could spend a long, long time learning all the arcana of this game. The more you play the more it all hangs together. Definitely worth the current sale price.

Simply one of the deepest turn-based fantasy strategy of all time. Amazing amount of contents, like anything else.
Brutal to learn, but a masterpiece for every fan of the genre: so many factions, spells, units, an extended lore (everything in this game has a nice description, adding tons of flavour), great mechanics (some factions have specific mechanics that completely change game), both on strategic and tactic levels, make the game a must buy for every hardcore fun of turn-based strategy games.
I follow the serie from Dominions 2 and each sequel is better and bigger than the previous one. And developers patch continuously the game, not only to correct bugs but to add new core contents (factions, mechanics, units and so on) for free, Buy the game and support Illwinter!

Absolute crap. A difficult game (which usually is a good thing) but is has no tooltips, no tutorials (you have to order/print a giant booklet), no starter nation or campaign.

Nothing to help anyone new to the game to get exited about it.

Dominions 4 is an extremely deep 4x, with more "under the hood" than its competitors. The combat, unit choice, list of factions, spells to research and ways to command your units is all far and above what other games offer.

But it doesn't have much interest in teaching you how to play it, and the interface is functional at best. Someone sitting down with Civ 5 or Endless Legend could quickly enjoy intuitive and simple mechanics, while Dominions 4 is a struggle from the start.

The setting is very rich, with mythological and history-based factions ruled over by a God of your design competing to bcome the omnipotent divinity. Dominions 4 requires a lot of investment to understand what's going on, why it's happening, and what to do, but it's very rewarding once you do so. 70 hours in I am still learning new things- Axe-equipped infantry are more likely to lop off an enemy's arm in combat, giving him hideous penalties and generally ruining his day. How awesome is that? But the game is in no hurry to tell you about its many wonderful features and possibilities.

Finally, the multiplayer is much smoother than other 4xes i've played, moving along comparatively fast. It's possible to play out thirty turns in one sitting with multiple friends, and a great way to spend an evening. Especially recommended to those who love history and mythology.

The most complex game in the history of humankind. If Civilization, Dwarf Fortress, and 2nd Edition Advanced Dungeons and Dragons (with its myriad sourcebooks) had a baby, this would be it.

You will play. You will lose.
You will play again, and lose in a different way.
Your people will be poisoned and plagued, and you won't know why.
The next game, you'll poison and plague your enemies, and lose anyway.
You'll try playing as unstoppable giants.
You'll lose.
Then you'll play as frost giants against a Roman Empire that falls apart in the cold.
Maybe you'll win, maybe not.

Then, when all else fails, you'll play against the most deadly enemy of all... a human.

The single deepest and most interesting turn based strategy game available.

The graphics fall somewhere between charmingly simple and an ugly unreadable mess, depending on who you are, the game mechanics are poorly explained ingame, and the interface wages an active war against the eyes and the mind of the player. But in spite of those drawbacks, there's simply no game in the genre I would recommend over this one. It is THAT good.

It takes some time to get into it, but once you've done that you will keep coming back. The strategic depth is damn close to unlimited.

This game is pretty amazing. Even now, years after its release, Illwinter continues to update it. Just a few days ago, one of these updates added and entirely new faction to the game. That kind of dedication to their game impresses me, and I appreciate it a lot as a player.

Dominions 4 is a pretty complicated and difficult-to-learn strategy game. That complication comes mostly from the sheer depth of the game's mechanics, and a lack of an in-game tutorial. You'll probably need to read the manual (which is linked here on the store page) to learn the proper way to play. I'd recommend skimming over it even if you haven't bought the game yet, as it can probably give you a pretty good idea of what you're buying.

The gameplay focuses heavily on the use of magic and the managing of your dominion - dominion measures the population's belief in you, and their willingness to worship you as their god. One method of victory involves spreading your dominion across the entire map, eliminating all belief in other gods through fanatical preaching and construction of temples.

The community still seems pretty active, and you can probably find people to play with on the forums - along with user-made content like maps and mods(including player-made factions).

As far as fantasy-themed grand strategy games go, I haven't played very many... but I'd hazard a guess that Dominions is by far the most deep and varied one, with 83 factions, hundreds of spells, almost 400 craftable and equipable artifacts, and like a zillion spells (I actually have no idea how many there are, since almost every faction has faction-specific spells). It's definitely worth your time, and I'd say it's worth your money as well.

WARNING: high learning curve involved, nor does it have a great tutorial

I am not good at this game but I think this games is awesome. You can make bad ♥♥♥ Gods and Heroes and fight massive battles. If you like mythology of any kind you will love this game! Everything from Demon apes to Lovecraftian horrors are in this game. Also if you get it, be sure to look up the Dom 4 modinspector for help and post on the forums, the community is very helpful and friendly. Also has a great modding community.

It should be said early that this game is not for everyone, but if you like this type of genre, then Dominions 4 is definitely worth it in my book.
The mechanics are mostly about overall strategic movements around the world map, and army compositions, and axcept for a pre-battle plan, there is no way to control your units in combat.

To start, you design your god, who will then command your chosen nation in the fight for the thrones of succesion, and ultimately the title of Pentakrator, the sole remaining and most powerful god in the world.
The goal is to expand your "empire", which means conquering land and spreading your dominion, and claiming the victory points around the map to crown yourself victor. Dominion is basically your chosen gods influence, and will give provinces modifiers based on how you designed your god.
Conquering land is vital for securing enough resources and gold to build an ever bigger army. Enemies will usually not be far away, and on multiple fronts. Smart decision making will often decide the outcome of your games.
As you gain land, send skilled mages into them to search for magic sites. Magical sites will provide gems, which are mostly used for spellcasting (combat) and rituals (world map spells). Having a high gem income can a lot of times be the edge needed to subdue enemy nations.

Personally, i prefer less micro intensive strategy games, which is why i like this game so much. The god aspect is very well thought through, and there is tons of variety in gods and magic, which is the ultimate charm of the game.
