Excellent game when it runs on Mac, at least 5 crashes to desktop or complete freezes per day.

No steam overlay, achievments, or workshop.

After a couple tries at the game and after finally understanding it i decided to play as Germany for the 2nd time (First time i didn't understand the game so Poland,France and the UK invaded me.) So here is me trying to make Germany Great Again.

-Early 1936: Forced all of my time into making Germany lose neutrality
-late 1936: Invade the Swiss to bypass the French Border
-Early 1937: Invade Hungary since they were a smaller country
-Mid 1937 Swiss rebels start appearing out of no where even though there is a ton of MPs in Switzerland
-late 1937: Stop rebels and decide to Conquer Romania
-Early 1938 Annex Austria and decide to accept Bulgaria into Allies. By now Nationalist Spain,Portugal, Italy, Japan (and all of it's Puppet countries are in the Axis.
Mid 1938- Decide ♥♥♥♥ it and Declare war on Lithuania to get Memel back but afterwards realise that there is an event for that
(Spend all of the rest of 1938 to march 1939 making troops.)
March 1939- Tell poland to give me Danzig. Poland refuses
rest of 1939- conquering all of the Allies in Europe. Eventually took the UK after a couple tries
Early 1940- Declare war on the Scandanavian countries above Germany (Non were a part of the Allies for some reason but mainly drifting torwards it.)
Mid 1940- Conquer Norway, Denmark and Sweden all in this time period (kek)
Late 1940- build up troops in these countries and realise that i could build stuff on greenland and ice land
Early 1941- Don't want to deal with Iceland so i made it a Puppet of Germany
Late 1941- Help out Italians in North Africa and make several puppet states out of North Africa
Early 1942- Revoke Non-Aggression pact with the USSR
Mid 1942- Take Movska and Stalingrad (Historically accurate so far)
Late 1942- Nearly made Soviets surrender but then start pushing my mighty panzers back
Early 1943- Finally defeat Russia
Rest of 1943- Rebelions happen all over the USSR and put troops everywhere in Russia(Even in Siberia)
Early 1943- Make Communist China my puppet state
Feeling good by now since i have destroyed all of Bolshevikism in the World
Mid 1943 - Take over Australia
By now my armies are very stretched thin
Establish bases in Australia to send over to the US
Late 1943 - Launch invasions in the US and canada
Early 1944 - Alaska is mine (Fallout 3 flashbacks)
Late 1944 - Canada is mine now
Early 1945 - All of the US is mine
Haven't paid attention to Europe and Asia for a while by now
Mid 1945 - Right when i was about to invade Mexico, Rebels in Europe are popping up in my regions so i frantically send all of my troops back to Europe and Asia to put them down after i do that however, rebels pop up in Canada and US and take back their nations
Late 1945 By now i start getting Frustrated and about to give up; Right when i finished putting down rebels in Switzerland, France and the UK, Rebels appear in the USSR and take back a quarter of the country near Asia.
I eventually Rage Quit from this and deleted the save
i wish i had a screenshot of the nation at it's height...

10/10 Wouldn't make puppets again and was very historically accurate

I wanted to like this game. Lots of depth here, but it is buggy as hell. Repeated crashes to desktop. And, eventually your saved games will get corrupted, then you can only start over from the beginning. AVOID THIS GAME.

Great game, amazing for World War 2 military enthusiasts. However, since upgrading to Windows 10, it is utterly unplayable. The game crashes without fail after 5 - 10 minutes of play, and no fixes I have tried seem to work. Such a shame, because it really is brilliant if you can get it to work.

Recommended for Windows 7.

By far one of the most in-depth grand strategy games I have played. I am impresssed with the detail put into each nation, such as the various parties and individuals of national cabinets.
Overall, everything seems to have a good amount of detail in it, from tech to diplomacy, even the map with varried terrains and climates affecting troop movement and success in battle.

I highly recomend this game.

One of the most engrossing games I've ever played. It's fantastic. I've seen other reviews that say there is too much complexity and micromanagement, but I love it. I think you've just got to commit to it and it becomes clear after a few hours (or less). It's not as simple as Hearts of Iron 4, but you're able to do more with it. I've sunk so much time into this game, it might be my absolute favorite. It plays like a few different games as well. Play as Germany and you've got your hands on just about everything and a game could take you many, many hours. Play as a little guy like Romania and you've not got a lot to do, but maybe you can influence the outcome of World War 2 if you're careful and clever. It's wonderful. I love Hearts of Iron 4, but I'm starting up another campaign in 3 today, I think.

Ah another World War II real time strategy game? What could this one have in store? Lets find out! Get your Comrades together, grab your commander's baton, and put on a monocle! Were gonna take over the world!

Pros:
+ Amazing Detail in the combat, some of which I've yet to understand even to this day!
+ Great Soundtrack, it really sets in the mood that the world is at war and that you're fighting for a big cause.
+ The AI is pretty intelligent, I mean its not unfair amounts but its atleast self aware... unlike other games.
+ Each nation can play a part in the war, even small countries like Bulgaria, Denmark, Belgium, ect.
+ You can change history in many different ways, making this game a playground of new alternate scenerios.
+ National and Global events give you multiple choices that impact the world and history it self! Choose wisely commander!
+ You can sit down and create your own battleplans; now hear me out... what if I told you that sitting down drawing arrows and lines in this game can some how... boost the fun? I know I know, its weird right? Well you can draw out strategic battle plans across the many nations and continents for your amusment and of course strategy.

Neutral:
/ Creating armies and going through the logistics is tedious and often VERY hard to micro manage but on the flip side it feels SO good to sit in the boots of a real Commander's job of working with the huge military forces of WWII.
/ The Military Research is bland you go from "Infantry I" to "Infantry II" and so and so on. However its easy to understand and grasp, so its not exactly all bad.

Cons:
- DLC out the rear end, I could understand like... one big pack for the Sprites and multiple for the bigger DLCs but the Sprite Packs are all seperate for different nations such as Germany, America, Italy, Russia, ect. Which is ridiculous.
- Diplomacy is a joke; Diplomacy is useless unless you're allied or friendly with the nation you're speaking to its practically a waste to even use it as most responses otherwise are "No" even if you present a gift.
- Politics is also similiarly a joke; politics boils down to one of two things, you're either replacing ministers to give better stats, or you're creating puppets/liberating puppets. Thats it, no massive change to certain ideologies or anything.
- Naval and Air combat is a bit lack luster, nothing is really gained nor is there a sense of urgency when using the navy or airforce.
- Some nations are ungodly powerful two that come to mind are the US and Germany; don't get me wrong both were super powers but they seem unrealistically buffed and over powered; for nation that suffered greatly under the great depression.

DLC Specific Parts:

Pros:
+ Their Finest Hour's additions are quite great with the Custom Mode being my favorite; you can litterally rebuild a nation from the ground up as you see fit!
+ New units and abilities! Fun Fun Fun.

Neutral:
/ Some of the content from "For the Motherland" and "Semper Fi" I don't even use often, but the abilities are there I suppose.

Cons:
- ♥♥♥♥ tons of Skin packs that really don't add that much to the game.
- They could've just bundled Semper Fi, For the Motherland, and Their Finest Hour

Conclusion:
I love Hearts of Iron III, great game for the Commander in you! I give it a 7/10 without DLC and with all major DLCs a 9/10. Its just simply a game any WWII History Buff or hardened RTS Commander needs.
