Update v1.07 live!

Hey hey!

Well, we finally got here! V1.07 is quite the update, bringing with it some large additions, including many fixes, a whole new map with new gameplay challenges, the VCD: Shadow Warrior has been merged in and some new songs for the Big Banger (and by extension, the Soundtrack)!

Read on for a list of the changes:

    Maps:
  • Added new Incubation Emergency level!
  • Replaced the Front End level with something new.
  • Greatly reduced the chances of Players falling through the floors in Paintenance Tunnels.
  • Optimized Hydroponic Hell.
  • Added Cascaded Shadows to Overgrowth, allowing dynamic shadows on all the plants.
  • Fixed levers in Evil Science not using the "Pull Down" hand animation.
  • Fixed P.I.D of the body in Evil Science near the surgery stating it was eviscerated, despite there being no signs.
  • Fixed Evil Science Dr. Mord's P.I.D wrongly counting as shot and murdered, instead of slain and dismembered.

    Game:
  • Added a "Debriefing" screen that appears after punching-out to clearly show if you're fired or not.
  • Added 3 new songs to the Big Banger!
  • Added some water footstep sounds.
  • The J-HARM no longer jams in Speedrun mode.
  • Fixed an issue that caused Report Accuracy and scoring to be slightly skewed by levels that don't use all the boxes on the Punchout Incident Report paperwork.
  • Fixed the Janitor trunk sometimes duplicating and/or keeping trophies incorrectly between spin-offs and when repeatedly punching out of the same saved game session.
  • Added a "Trophy Backup" save system that saves a time-stamped backup of your trophies everytime you punch-out to the office. In-case something goes wrong.
  • Fixed some issue causing the later Achievements(Santa, House of Horror) to not always be unlocked.
  • Changed mop-drip particles.
  • Fixed spare mop objects(such as the ones in the Janitor Office) counting as mess.
  • Fixed an issue that sometimes caused an ininite-loop crash during startup if the movies are not skipped.
  • Fixed(hopefully) an issue that sometimes caused an ininite-loop crash after loading a saved game in which lots of footprints were clustered together.

    Multiplayer:
  • Made a change that 'may' help Steam MP Connectivity(in "Cancelled Connection Attempt" cases).
  • Fixed an issue causing players to be unable to join servers hosting Original VCD levels unless they also had the House of Horror DLC.
  • Fixed the Janitor Trunk lid not being attached to the trunk itself on clients.
  • Fixed an annoying bug on clients that caused objects picked up for the first time to do some ugly physics snapping.
  • Added an "Official Content Only" option to the "Game Rules" menu to allow servers to avoid certain Workshop dependency issues, and accept connections from stock VCD players.
  • The Big Banger now bounces more smoothly on clients, instead of the sticky motions it had before.

    UI:
  • Improved the volume balance of menu music.
  • Fixed an issue causing the Join Menu to add empty search results.
  • Added "Note Zoom Scale" setting to options menu to allow you to improve paper Note and PDA readability.
  • Decreased size of level description area on the game's map selection Menu.
  • Limited server names to 34 characters.
  • Improved the composition of the mid-game menu logos.
  • Increased the character limit on punch-out report form boxes, and changed their font.
  • Filtered out save files you can't load because you're using the wrong spin-off in the map selection Menu.
  • Limited the number of Punchout Reports shown on the Viewing Screen in the office to 100, to prevent crashing.
  • Added "Menu Sensitivity" setting to controls menu, allowing you to increase the mouse sensitivity used while in the game's menus.
  • Added a "Footprint Limit" setting to the Game Rules menu, allowing you to limit their creation.
  • Fixed "Global Radio" setting not taking effect at level load.
  • Reordered map list, making Athena's Wrath the default.

    Horror DLC:
  • Added the missing P.I.D for the guy on the back porch.

    Santa's Rampage:
  • Fixed "Stuffed Dolls" not counting as Christmas items.
  • Fixed company notice notes being listed as from "Aerospace Sanitation" instead of "Polar Sanitation".
  • Changed the way Molotovs behave; they now have to be lit before they can explode.

    Workshop:
  • Added the "Level Inventory" and "Level Voice Controller" settings to the Map Info object, allowing level creators to give players different tools and the SW voice.
  • Added Santa and Shadow Warrior objects to "Plopper" tool.
  • Added additional bounce pattern system to Big Banger, allowing you to define more detail for songs.
  • Fixed News Ticker not scrolling if the first item isn't long enough.
  • Fixed News Ticker overrides using blank colours by default.
  • Added a "bIsCollectible" variable to all physics objects, allowing you to decide if the Janitor trunk can take it with or not.
  • Added VCTrigger actor, allows you to change the hand animation played for "Use" triggers.

Whew!

If only actual cleaning was this fun.

Really enjoyed my time on the first level, but was put off continuing further because of how difficult it seemed to be to get a perfect score. Spent three hours cleaning up everything I could see (and everything I could find with the sniffer), but still managed to get demoted for doing a terrible job.

So if you're someone who can simply enjoy the illusion of productivity in a genuinely interesting environment, this game's definitely worth a try, but if you're someone like me who feels like a bit of a failure for not getting top marks after really trying, you might find true satisfaction just out of reach.

+ Fun
+ Different
+ Satisfying when things work

- The more fiddly jobs get tedious after a while
- Difficult to complete REALLY well

If I still need Hamachi or to re-set-up my modem/router/ports/forwarding/WHATEVER to play your game's alleged built-in multiplayer/co-op... there's something wrong here. Seriously, it's 2016.

I'm sure the game's great and all, except the whole point I got it was to play with my friend. So. Money pretty much wasted. :\

10/10 definitely would recommend.

This game managed to carve out a niche into the FPS market. By making the player cleaning after the typical shootout, it creates a new genre. Just like Minecraft did, a few years ago. However, this game did not have the hype Mincraft enjoyed, and therefore hasn't spanwed any copycats... yet.

Trust me, just like after a stressful day you may enjoy killing 2000 enemies in an FPS like Doom, on a boring, chilly and cloudy sunday, you'll enjoy playing some tunes while you remove viscera and litter and mop the blood off floor and walls. Even better, you can play it multiplayer and have a laugh with friends. The characters move in quite a cartoonish way, which adds up to the comic effect. Grab some dynamite and ignite it near a fellow co-worker: enjoy watching him blow up.

The achievements require a few hours of work but are easily obtainable.

The levels are magnificent. Each one has a unique atmosphere.

The sounds are few due to the nature of the game, but are more than adequate. Maybe the sound of all the stuff cluttered into a disposal bin is a bit ridiculous, but that is nothing serious.

The graphics are amazing. If you have a good computer, it'll look astonishing.

The price is more than fair. The glitches are few, minor. Devs are constantly working on fixing as much as they can. Don't believe me? Check their facebook page.

The only thing I'd criticise is the lack of explanation on how to use your tools and stacking areas. But the wiki is very detailed. And I'm sure this lack of info will be addressed soon enough.

Overall 10/10. One of the very few games I definitely recommend.

Work. Work never changes.

Since the dawn of human kind, when our ancestors first discovered the cleaning power of water and sponges, blood has been washed off in the name of everything: from promotion to simple, pure satisfaction.

In the year 2184, after the outbreak of war with aliens, the messy nature of man could sustain itself no longer: the world was plunged into an abyss of filth, junk, viscera and dismembered bloody corpses.

But it was not, as some had predicted, the end of janitor's work. Instead, the invasion was simply the prologue to another painstaking chapter of human history. For we succeeded in defeating the aliens - but work, work never changes.

In the early days, thousands of workers were spared the horrors of cleaning by dying in different ways, known as stupid. And when the janitors entered, they died in even more stupid ways - all except you. For on that fateful day, when you took your trusted mop and a bucket of water, the small wooden door of The Office closed - and never reopened. It was here when you started. It is here you will be fired.

Because, on the Spaceship: no trash ever enters, and no trash ever leaves.

One may think that this game's postive reviews are a joint effort by the community to give us all a giggle when we see that a 'Cleaning Simulator' is one of the best games on the market. Somehow, that is not the case. I was expecting a Cory in the House DS level of deviation from the reviews, what I recieved was a humourous, polished, highly editable, multiplayer masterpiece that taps into my crippling OCD and unleashes my inner Janitor. If you think this game is just for a select few neat-freaks with too much time on their hands, you will likely be surprised. I showed this game to my friend who is a devout COD fanboy, ( eugh ) and he got into it just as much as me. One of the most unique and satisfying games I have ever played.

Step 1: Have a friend who isn't clumsy
Step 2: Accidentally knock over a bin filled with body parts
Step 3: Panic and step back tipping over a dirty bucket making even more mess
Step 4: Run to get a clean bucket leaving footprints everywhere
Step 5: Watch as your friend looks at more mess than you started with
10/10 would make a mess clean again

Exactly what it says on the tin. You'll be on a detail to cleanup viscera. It's not simple but it's not deep either, and it makes for a fun co-op game to do something while chatting with friends. Wouldn't recommend for single player, and do be wary it can be buggy when it comes to MP connectivity.

Viscera Cleanup Detail
Publisher: Runestone Games

Viscera Cleanup Detail is a very different game than the ones we are used to. It does not fall into the category of the genres we are so familiar to. It is a game where you are a janitor. That does sound like one of the most boring jobs to do in a game but if Viscera is anything to go by, it does not feel that way.
Viscera Cleanup Detail puts you into the boots of a janitor who is tasked with cleaning different Sci fi horror events where the actual hero has already done his work and left the place in a mess. Now, it is your job to clean it up in the old fashioned way. Viscera Cleanup Detail Equips you with a mop and a bucket full of water. You clean up the blood stains by using the mop which gets dirty after a few bloody strokes. You either have to dip it into the bucket or any other source of water which makes it close to new in an instant. Then you find heat furnaces which are used to burn down pieces of bodies found around the place. You can pick up various objects and throw them around to have some fun with the somewhat wonky physics engine. It is a game where the humour is solid even where there are no jokes spoken. That’s what makes Viscera special.
Gameplay-wise viscera is pretty limited in scope. You don’t do a anything except the cleaning and a little messing around with the physics engine. It doesn’t help that you are the only character in the whole place as it completely removes any interaction. Though sometimes it gives out certain creepy vibes in the form of dead bodies and the complete silence. Viscera Cleanup Detail’s environments are certainly very impressive. Large rooms complete with easter eggs to find and the various bodies which gives you a sense of what happened here. It gives you a feel what happens after hero rages through the building in order to complete his objective and never turns back to see what transpired while he was there. The visuals of Viscera Cleanup Detail are stunning to say the least. After you clean up a room, there is a sense of achievement which is not present in many games. It is a game where you can relax, a game where you lay down and clean down a few rooms. During my playthrough, I encountered a few bugs but nothing game breaking by any means.
No review can justify how Viscera Cleanup Detail feels. You know after the first few minutes if you’re going to enjoy this game or not. To some it may feel like a boring romp through various rooms, but if you’re like me and enjoy a bit of relaxation in games, Viscera Cleanup detail provides all of that with a solid dose of humour and rooms choke full of easter eggs.

Mum: It will if you don't clean it more often...

This game is exceedingly boring, but thats the point. I think this game has opened up some sort of serial killer side of me because normal people ive seen let's play this are always shocked, meanwhile im just shoving people into the wood chipper and cataloging all the bullets, knives, and trash. I once walked into a room with blood and intestines covering a king sized bed and the ceiling and I just shruged and thought "whelp, this is pretty standard work for a demonic summoning, does a knife glove count as five knives, a glove, or one knife?"
