What the developers have to say:

“So you've elected to support development of Viscera Cleanup Detail by getting the Early Access build, great! There are a few things to keep in mind however, as we continue development, fix bugs, add content and polish it all up.
  • It's still in development, so it has issues, especially regarding network.
  • You might want to think twice about buying this now if you're looking for a polished product. However, if you want to support us and provide feedback for the game's development, we'd be super grateful!
  • The price will increase as it gets closer to the finished game.
  • Everything is subject to change; your favourite feature could be eradicated.

As we proceed with development, the major improvements you will see will be relating to new and improved maps, bug fixes and polish. New content will primarily be focused on creating interesting environments for our players to experience.

And on a final note, mod support will be coming very soon! So you'll be able to craft your own space-station massacres; hooray!”

Update v0.4050 live!

Greetings minions!

Today's update has two primary inclusions: the artifact and the start of janitor variations/customizations! Presently, these new variations are random and/or based on your assigned in-game age. As we go, some of these will be customizable from the menu :)

  • Added mysterious Artifact to Unearthly Excavation.
  • Added J-HARM to Unearthly Excavation.
  • Added Kick and KickBan server commands to kick players by name(as shown in the player roster).
  • Enabled Cheats for server hosts.
  • Added new randomly applied Janitor body skin!
  • Added 5 new Janitor head skins! (Applied randomly according to your age)
  • Fixed Lightning scars being hard to hit with the welder.

Updates from now might be a bit slower as we sink most of our efforts into the new map. It's probably has the most features and stuff going on inside it, so it'll be a bit of work to get it done.
For now though, enjoy!

PS: I should be able to get to messing with the Mac build again soon, but the Macbook I just ordered was canceled, so that'll delay that a bit as I look around again.

Update v0.4025

Greetings everyone!

Another week, another update! This one brings forth the Server browser, a Broom and Ghost mode. Read on for details:

  • Added the Broom!
  • Implemented Ghost Mode...muhahahaha!
  • Added 4 new spam notes to the Vending Machine.
  • Fixed JHARM screen not displaying "Obstructed" on clients.
  • Made player chat messages use player alias instead of Steam name when alias is not the default.
  • Implemented Server Browser!

PLEASE NOTE: In order for your hosted games to appear in the browser, you will need to make sure you have port-forwarded the game correctly.
We're not entirely done with MP yet, as there are a couple things we still want to try and streamline as much as we can!

All maps should have a Broom or two lying around in them to help corral bullets and trash. Let us know your thoughts on the little bugger!

And lastly, do give Ghost Mode a shot if you're playing co-op; it's quite hilarious!

Have fun ya'll!

EDIT: Forgot to mention; the ports you need to forward are: 7777, 7778, and probably 27015.

About This Game

Disaster! An alien invasion and subsequent infestation have decimated this facility. Many lives were lost, the facility was ruined and the aliens were unstoppable. All hope was lost until one survivor found the courage to fight back and put the aliens in their place!
It was a long and horrific battle as the survivor duelled with all manner of terrifying life-forms and alien mutations, but our hero won out in the end and destroyed the alien menace! Humanity was saved!

Unfortunately, the alien infestation and the heroic efforts of the courageous survivors have left rather a mess throughout the facility. As the janitor, it is your duty to get this place cleaned up.
So grab your mop and roll up your sleeves, this is gonna be one messy job.
Today, you're on Viscera Cleanup Detail!

Key Features

  • Janitorial Simulation - Step into the boots of a space-station sanitation technician and deal with the horrific aftermath of a sci-fi horror event. Blood, viscera, spent cartridges, worker bodies and other messes litter the facilities.
  • Clean - It's your job to clean up the mess, so clean it up you shall! Use your trusty mop, gloves, dispenser machines, plasma laser and sniffer tool to help you get all that blood out of the floor and off the ceiling! You can even try and punch-out if you think you've done your job.
  • Sandbox Gameplay - Don't want to clean? Just want to make more of a mess and play around with the physics? Go ahead! You can save your game as well; that's kind of us!
  • Multiplayer - Note: MP is still being worked out and may have issues still.
You can even enlist some friends/coworkers to come and help you clean up (or make even more mess).

my friend and I spent about 2 and a half hours cleaning up a level, even going so far as to use the sniffer machine for another 30 minutes just to make sure everything was absolutely spotless.

i accidentally bump over a barrel on my way to clock out, and ended up back at the office after working up a virtual sweat cleaning torso from the rafters.

I then find a note in the office about how a scientist tripped over a tipped barrel and died.

I ruined 3 hours of virtual labor because i couldnt be half ♥♥♥♥♥ to lift a barrel.
my friend wanted to kill me, i wanted to kill me, it was great fun 10/10

My girlfriend is always having a go at me about cleaning up so I downloaded Viscera Cleanup Detail and cleaned the waste disposal facility meticulously for several hours. When i showed her my handy work she had a go at me.

Women truly are mysterious creatures.

I did forget to stack all the barrels up so maybe that was what she was mad at...who knows?

10/10 for the game but I have to give it a 0/10 for helping with relationships

After more than 30 hours I have to admit I long for more and more levels. I want to clean up more and on even more varied stages. If only the creators had named their child The Space Janitor! Or something a little more catchy!

The pictures speak for themselves: as a janitor you need to clean up the leftovers of a huge massacre. Imagine your favourite horror movie or video game and that particular scene where a battle ensues between people and monsters or aliens and the ending result is a huge pile of body parts and pools of blood in every which way.

This is what Viscera presents you on different stages and this is what you're gonna spend hours and hours with in order to have everything cleaned up. Now, the game is not as easy as first seems: your mop quickly becomes dirty and the bucket of clean water eventually turns red. You go back to a machine to get more and the same goes for the containers that are used to collect trash and body parts.

Eventually, you drop everything into a huge incinerator and, if desired, you can even stack all the crates and barrels on the stage to one of its corners. Oh, and you also have secondary objectives such as plant some seeds or get rid of some nasty pit monsters. And in case you are interested to know what caused the massacre you can look for tablets or notes telling you the horrible tale behind each level! Finally, it all comes down to the work you have done: a perfectly tidied map that is spotless from beginning to end!

At this point the only downside of the game is its early access stage. Playing with somebody in multiplayer requires the IP address and even then connecting is a bit difficult. Moreover, I haven't had any session without issues - my team mate always experienced connection problems and he was unable to see me or move certain objects for a short period of time. At this point the only polish I need from the developers is a better - flawless - multiplayer experience.

Viscera is a game with an original idea and playing it is just huge fun. Once you get hooked, you'll soon find yourself accomplishing all objectives on all levels but thank god we have Steam Workshop!

For those of you that have played Half-Life 2, remember the moment when the guard tells you to pick up the can and put it in the trash. The developers of Viscera Cleanup Detail have captured that experience precisely, and distilled the essence of that seemingly miniscule task one-thousand fold into a full blown janitorial simulator. VCD literally sweeps the competition away.
10/10, Would pick up the can again.

I am currently rethinking my career choice, becoming a janitor suddenly is very appealing to me.

Do not play this game, you will end up spending way too much time cleaning virtually and drown in your own garbage irl.

In this game you must clean rooms from blood, body parts, alien plasma and so on.
this game is relaxing and the levels are long (for the most maps you need around 2 hours+) it also has Steam Workshop where you can download even more maps.
This game has multiplayer (co-op and internet) too but its not done yet but im sure it will be very fun when its done!

If you like cleaning and want to relax a bit after all the FPS games or horror games buy this, i highly recommend this game!

It makes me want to slap Space Marines and Aliens alike in the face for making their kills so messy, so it's probably the most realistic Sci-FI Janitor Simulator out there.

Space Janitor: The game

It has it's ups and downs. The gameplay is good, something to do with friends when bored. There are some minor bugs with physics, and online multiplayer is a bit laggy, but overall, extremely good.

First time when I've seen this game I'm not think much interesting. But my friend forced me to buy this game. There was 25% discount so, I bought this game.
And I was surprised when I had played to this game more fun what I expected.

I recommend this game to those who interesting the cooperative games.

Good thing:
-Easy achievements.
-Very simple control.
-If you have good friends who have this game, play with those for more more fun. :D

Bad thing:
-Early access (currently) so, there are more bugs/glitches.
-With alone not too fun.

I played this for the first time last night with a friend. We had absolutely no idea what we were doing, we were getting frustrated with accidentally making a mess where we just cleaned, we wanted to kill each other for leaving bloody footprints everwhere... And to top it all off, the fact that he's Canadian and I'm Australian made the lag so unbearable, we could hardly transport any crates full of rubbish to the incinerator without the contents flying everywhere, or the contents/crate itself literally throwing us into the walls and ceiling and destroying everything else (though admittedly, that last part is somewhat expected given the countries).

We also had absolutely no idea what needed to go and what didn't, we had no idea what the big lazer was for, or how either mode of the radar thingy worked. By the time we finished with the level we were on 3 hours later, the reviews we got were terrible and they made us feel rage.

Yet despite all of that... we can both honestly say that it is the most hilarious and fun experience we've had in a while. All we could think was "We NEED to get more friends in on this!".
Total anarchy is what it was. It was brilliant. When you do finally figure out how everything works, you feel amazing and accomplished. Honestly, the only thing that I can say would improve the game is one minor control change, but once you get used to everything, it's really not that bad.

You can burn so many hours on this game. The possibilities via the Steam Workshop are almost limitless as long as there's gory games out there. We're going to play the hell out of what's currently here, but we most certainly look forward to the final product.

Fun game bit buggy tho with the trash bins. 1 out of 3 bins shakes trash out of the bottom while moving it.

It's weird but somehow it's enjoyable.

You get to that point when you see mutant tracks, made in human blood, and on the ceiling, and only thing that comes to your mind is "How am I going to mop up there?". At then you hear yourself say out loud "My name is Yannie...".

I LOVE THIS GAME!!! This game is sooo interesting. If you love cleaning, then this is a game for YOU! It is updated regularly and the support of this game is great. If you don't want to play the standard maps anymore, then you can download some cool maps from the Steam Workshop. The best thing about it is that you can play it in local co-op! You can play with split screen with up to 4 players! Certainly you can play it online and offline but on my opinion you have to play it in local co-op! This game is so much fun! Just buy it. You won't regret! :)

As purely a monotonous time waster, I highly recommend this game. And I'll admit, sometimes it's fun to just clean but then I realize I should be doing it in my real life and it promptly kills the fun. I feel that the game would be more fun if not for the obnoxious things that draw out the job. It's also incredibly difficult to determine what is and isn't clean, meaning that when you finish you have likely missed a spot and you'll drive yourself crazy trying to figure otu where. Having to 'debug' to figure out where some stain is is a very huge flaw and using the detector is equally frustrating.

Vicera Cleanup detail is easily one of the most mind numbingly repettative games ive ever plays, but it is also one of the most enjoyable, great looking, and different games I have ever played. To start off like all reviews I want to remind everyone this is still considered to be an early access game, so there is still more to be added as well as more to be changed, so anything I say about the game is subject to change.

Viscera cleanup is not exactly what most people likely would consider playing at first glance, however if you start to look deeper and actually give it a try, you will find yourself obsesevly cleaning every drop of blood off every map for hours at a time just because it feels that rewarding after doing so much work and getting praised for it.

The game gets even better when you play with friends and fool around on the maps, finding all the sercret areas, and cleaning them up as well, or even making a mess of the place after one of your friends is done cleaning it up just to be annoying :P.

Not only is the gameplay surprisingly addictive and fun, but the visuals are fantastic, not to say it has the most amazing effects out there, were not talking about explosions and lazers or anything, but just the sheer ammount of junk, and blood and bullet holes around the map make it really feel like there was a huge fight there not to long ago. I will say they tend to repaste textures pretty often which can make some walls and other features pretty dull to look at, but in the end it tends to help when looking for that one stray bullet hole you just cant seem to find.

Now like all games there are still flaws, and despite it being in beta I still feel it necessary to point them out. Only just recently was there a server browser added, and on top of this due to the long time without it, it is unfortunalty grossly under used. There are alot of features still missing in the game from what I have been reading, and still alot of bugs to work through like a spot of blood being cleaned up but it not being counted as clean. stray bullets clipping through walls, and of course physics engine issues with various objects and the players interactions with them.

Those small issues tend to go overlooked however with just how much fun there is to have in the game, in fact a body part falling from the bottom of trash can tends to end up being funny and enjoyable more often then annoying and tedious.

So if you like the tediousness of cleaning up after someone else, and want to just have a fun time killer to hop on once and a wile, I highly recommend Viscera Cleanup, you may not be running around with guns, but a mop is so much more rewarding and immersive.
