In Viscera Cleanup Detail, you step into the boots of a space-station janitor tasked with cleaning up after various horrific sci-fi horror events. Instead of machineguns and plasma-rifles, your tools are a mop and bucket. That hero left a mess, and it's up to you to deal with the aftermath.

What the developers have to say:

“So you've elected to support development of Viscera Cleanup Detail by getting the Early Access build, great! There are a few things to keep in mind however, as we continue development, fix bugs, add content and polish it all up.
  • It's still in development, so it has issues, especially regarding network.
  • You might want to think twice about buying this now if you're looking for a polished product. However, if you want to support us and provide feedback for the game's development, we'd be super grateful!
  • The price will increase as it gets closer to the finished game.
  • Everything is subject to change; your favourite feature could be eradicated.

As we proceed with development, the major improvements you will see will be relating to new and improved maps, bug fixes and polish. New content will primarily be focused on creating interesting environments for our players to experience.

And on a final note, mod support will be coming very soon! So you'll be able to craft your own space-station massacres; hooray!”

Update v0.70 live!

Hey hey!

Another update this week, with a focus on fixes, polish and tweaks as we head to a v1.0. Speaking of which, we're aiming for that towards the middle of October. Hold thumbs! We're also plotting a little something for Halloween, but shhhh ;)

Anyway! Changes:

  • Fixed some badly positioned Note spawn locations in the Janitor Office.
  • Added First-Aid stations to Waste Disposal.
  • Added more Employee of the Month picture and punchout result note spawn locations to the Janitor Office.
  • News ticker text scrolling made smoother.

  • Made the Janitor Trunk capable of permanently removing items from the Janitor Office if they are not brought back from work sites.
  • Changed the Employee of the Month picture to be more glorious!
  • Added the old menu music track to the Big Banger; "Darkwash".
  • Added support for Punchout Report Forms to Speedrun mode.
  • Changed the threshold for bucket spilling. They now spill easier, reducing the occurences of "floating water planes".
  • Fixed dead worker Oxygen tanks using wrong burnt scrap.
  • Fixed Lightning Gun debris object using wrong burnt scrap.
  • Fixed Janitor Trunks brought with by another Janitor Trunk not having a lid.
  • Fixed the JHARM floating into the air when loading some saved games.
  • Fixed un-touched skeletal bodies on clients flying away from each other when first sighted.
  • Fixed objects manually rotated by using the mouse returning to their original rotation on clients.
  • Broken Lanterns and spent Flares now count as mess.
  • Improved the positioning of held Notes and PDAs when the player's FoV is higher than 90.
  • Fixed sand piles appearing inside the incinerator.
  • Fixed "Bob" and his "Door".

  • Added "Limit Net Actors" setting to server rules menu, allowing you to control when the creation of new actors will be skipped during network play.
  • Added "Global Radio" setting to Audio options menu, allowing you to hear the Banger's music from anywhere in the level instead of from the actual source itself.

  • Changed "Private Game" to be OFF by default for network games. Be sure to manually turn it on if you don't want your game to be public.
  • Adjusted the network saturation limiter. By default new objects will be prevented from being created upon reaching the "Saturation Point".

  • Added "bRotatePawns" to the viscera Teleport Kismet Action.

Slight warning with this update, as a lot of your settings might get reset.
If you had to change some config files to get the game running, you'll likely have to do so again. Hopefully we can stop changing these defaults in the future as we get close to v1.0.

More stuff to come next week or so as we attempt to get the game done :)

Also! The beta Mac build is currently uploading for private testing. Those that have access should check for it sometime tomorrow (sorry, slow internet :\). If I haven't sorted anyone yet, that'll happen soon! It must be noted, that we haven't been able to get the last thing working on it, nor does it look like we will be able to right now. This last issue involves UDK interfacing (or not!) with Steam. It's misbehaving, meaning online MP through Steam and achievements cause it to crash, so we have disabled those. We'll decide whether that prevents us from putting out the build for the general public or not :\

Anyway, have a good weekend everyone! Enjoy!

Update v0.61; quick-fix

Following the v0.60 update a couple of things needed some attention, so we've bunged a few things together today. Nothing too alarming, but read on for changes nonetheless!

  • Fixed stairs in Gravity Drive allowing objects to slip in between them and the console wall.
  • Changed the way punch-out news article results are presented. Now only a few are shown to you; the cleaner you leave a level the more "nit-picky" the articles will get.
  • Added new hand Animations to Janitor PDA tool.
  • Fixed Janitor PDA Notes disappearing when hosting a game.
  • Made Janitor PDA also save the notes of players who join a hosted game.
  • Added the third person prop for the Janitor PDA.
  • Fixed the textures on "collectibles" appearing in low resolution most of the time.
  • Improved collision of shelves in Janitor Office.
  • Fixed some sticky viscera near the J-HARM in Caduceus.

That's it for now! More to come in the near future, but maybe not as much as we focus our efforts on the Mac build for a bit. Hold thumbs on that front!

“You know what I really love about violence? Dealing with the consequences! That’s why I’m so excited to see that Viscera Cleanup Detail, the space station janitor simulation, is now available on Steam Early Access.”

“By setting its mundane stall in the days after events that would be taken oh-so-seriously in another game, Viscera Cleanup Detail manages to be morbidly hilarious without ever telling a single joke.”

About This Game

Disaster! An alien invasion and subsequent infestation have decimated this facility. Many lives were lost, the facility was ruined and the aliens were unstoppable. All hope was lost until one survivor found the courage to fight back and put the aliens in their place!
It was a long and horrific battle as the survivor duelled with all manner of terrifying life-forms and alien mutations, but our hero won out in the end and destroyed the alien menace! Humanity was saved!

Unfortunately, the alien infestation and the heroic efforts of the courageous survivors have left rather a mess throughout the facility. As the janitor, it is your duty to get this place cleaned up.
So grab your mop and roll up your sleeves, this is gonna be one messy job.
Today, you're on Viscera Cleanup Detail!

Key Features

  • Janitorial Simulation - Step into the boots of a space-station sanitation technician and deal with the horrific aftermath of a sci-fi horror event. Blood, viscera, spent cartridges, worker bodies and other messes litter the facilities.
  • Clean - It's your job to clean up the mess, so clean it up you shall! Use your trusty mop, gloves, dispenser machines, plasma laser and sniffer tool to help you get all that blood out of the floor and off the ceiling! You can even try and punch-out if you think you've done your job.
  • Sandbox Gameplay - Don't want to clean? Just want to make more of a mess and play around with the physics? Go ahead! You can save your game as well; that's kind of us!
  • Multiplayer - Note: MP is still being worked out and may have issues still.
You can even enlist some friends/coworkers to come and help you clean up (or make even more mess).

Buying Viscera Cleanup Detail also gets you our spin-off titles, 'VCD: Shadow Warrior' and 'Santa's Rampage' free!

Early Access Review
Hello and welcome to my Viscera Cleanup Detail Review :

My criteria for reviewing this game is :

- Gameplay ( 10/10 )

- DLCs and etc. ( 10/10 )

Rating Criteria (For Overall) :

1 - 5 : No.

6 - 10 : Yes.

-This review might contain spoilers , and my review may not be understandable.. So yeah..

So let's start the review

Gameplay (8/10) :
- The gameplay is all about you're a janitor , tasked to clean everything instead of killing , you have to do your best in cleaning or else you'll fail.. Or just mess around in a complete mess in 1 area.. Or even do nothing! But the thing is.. You just have to clean EVERY single mess found on the area.

DLCs and etc. (7/10) :
- There are 3 DLCs in this game , 1st is the shadow warrior edition , 2nd is the Santa's Revenge , and the 3rd is the Soundtrack , I've played only the shadow warrior DLC since it's nice. I haven't tried yet the Santa's revenge , But since they're not free.. But paid, I recommend to get the game before the price of the game increases , so that you can add extra time playing Viscera Cleanup Detail. But it will make you bored in 30 minutes or less.. Unless you love cleaning stuff.

Overall (7.5/10) :
- The game is really fun to play. But it will make you bored in 30 minutes or less. Because the only thing you have to do in this game is to clean stuff , and that's it.
- I recommend to get it since it's 9.99$ but it will increase soon after their updates are done.

Thanks for reading my review and have a nice day..

Viscera Cleanup Detail EARLY ACCESS Review

Last Updated: September 18th, 2015

Small Disclaimer: This game is still in Early Access, which means the game could change a lot during it's development process. These changes can go from small bug fixes to huge gameplay changes, so this means that if you are reading this review and it is outdated, then that means it could be different than how the game is now. I will try to keep this review updated as much as I can throughout it's Early Access stage so bear with me. I will post the last edited date above.

What can I say about this game? It is probably one of the greatest Early Access games I have come across. It seems the Early Access model is abused and is filled with games that make little progress. This game on the other hand has made plenty of progress, adding in new mechanics and maps constantly. With the recent release of their final map "Overgrowth" it seems like this game could come out of Early Access very soon, despite it only being on Version 0.6.

This game is about cleaning, which is very odd, I mean how can they make a game about cleaning fun? Well, it is simple, they make sure that it is interesting. You take on the roll of a space janitor, cleaning for various companies. What do you clean up exactly? Viscera! You clean up various dead bodies, organs, blood spots, radioactive materials, aliens, and even the normal trash that would consist of soda cans and potato chip bags. When you are cleaning you are using various tools to get the job done, such as your mop, the newly added broom (Which sadly seems to not be very useful...), the welder, and many more. In order to have a job well done, you must weld all the bullet holes, mop up any messes you see, and incinerate any trash or even bodies you find. The concept sounds simple and dumb, but trust me when I say that you will be spending hours enjoying yourself while you clean, especially if you have a friend to bring with you.

Each map has it's own story. It is told by the various notes scattered around the map and the various hints as to what really happened before you were tasked of cleaning. I find it really interesting how they try to tell the story of each facility through the eyes of the janitor, the person who is tasked of cleaning the aftermath of the action. There is even some story found inside your own office, which I will not spoil, but let's just say there is a small surprise found behind every door.

Let's just say there is a ton of content in this game. There are plenty of official maps that are already added, especially as of now. Each map can take you a good amount of time, and thanks to the new save feature, you can pick up and return to each map if you wish. With each map there is also easter eggs and other things to look out for in each map too, so there is even some side content. Also included with the purchase of the base game is the Shadow Warrior and Christmas standalone maps, which are sadly a bit outdated when it comes to the engine. Speaking of crossovers though I REALLY wish this game had more crossover maps, in the form of either standalone or just maps in general, it would be cool to clean up Black Mesa from Half-Life or possibly Aperture Science from Portal.

So far optimization in this game is really good. The game doesn't lag too much from what I played. I have a decent PC, not the best but good enough for gaming. If you have a lowteir PC then maybe you should avoid this game until near release. There is one problem however, and that is multiplayer. Playing multiplayer is possible and is actually 100% playable with some precautions. If you tread too much and make more of a mess than what you started with, you will start to lag, and if you are hosting then the other person playing will start to see some interesting glitches. Even if you play and have the place near clean you still see glitches as someone who is not hosting, such as the mysterious kamikaze blue bin.

This is probably one of the only Early Access games that I can 100% recommend. It is dirt cheap right now, and is worth every penny. As of now it is fully playable and almost close to completion. Buy it right now!
