Update 01.084 - DirectX 11, Station rotation

DirectX 11 renderer has been added to the game. It is available as an option in Graphics settings and players can choose between the old DX9 and the new DX11. The main advantages of the DX11 renderer are better game performance and visual look of the models. The renderer is still in early stages of development, so some bugs and visual issues may be present.
The DX11 renderer of the game uses physically based rendering (PBR), which helps to achieve a more realistic look, especially for metallic surfaces. For modders, it means that they will have to create a new set of textures for DX11. We will be slowly replacing old placeholder models with reworked assets. Five updated blocks are released in this update (Beacon, Gyroscope, Warhead, Projector, Spotlight).

Additionally, players will now have the option to rotate a static station by switching to rotating mode (via pressing the 'B' button). The station created in the Station rotation mode will not allow blocks separated from it to be merged again.

About This Game

Space Engineers is a sandbox game about engineering, construction and maintenance of space works. Players build space ships and space stations of various sizes and utilization (civil and military), pilot ships and perform asteroid mining.

Space Engineers utilizes a realistic volumetric-based physics engine: all objects can be assembled, disassembled, damaged and destroyed. The game comes with two game modes: creative and survival.

Volumetric objects are structures composed from block-like modules interlocked in a grid. Volumetric objects behave like real physical objects with mass, inertia and velocity. Individual modules have real volume and storage capacity.

Space Engineers is inspired by reality and by how things work. Think about modern-day NASA technology extrapolated 60 years into the future. Space Engineers strives to follow the laws of physics and doesn't use technologies that wouldn't be feasible in the near future.

Space Engineers concentrates on construction aspects, but can be played as a tactical shooter as well. We expect players to avoid engaging in direct man-to-man combat and instead use their creativity and engineering skills to build war machines and fortifications. Space Engineers shouldn’t be about troops; it should be about the machinery you build.

  • Environmental hazards – protect your character and your creations from meteor storms (Safe, Normal, Cataclysm, Armageddon)
  • Conveyor, Collector, Connector (IMPORTANT: this is a first work-in-progress version and a realistic version will be added later) - Conveyors move items from inventory to inventory. Collectors can collect small objects (ore, ingots, components, tools) into inventory. Connectors can throw items from inventory to space (in future update could be used to connect two ships/stations and transfer items)
  • Artificial mass – can be used to add gravity-affected mass to ships, useful in machine ships or cars
  • Wheels - use them with rotors and artificial mass to build vehicles
  • Automated turrets – gatling, missile and interior. Turrets are used mostly as defense mechanism rather than shooting other players. They aim on decoys (automatically by default), meteorites, missiles or all moving objects (eg. small/large ships) - targeting can be changed in the control panel

My favorite game. Ever. The Devs are great, working to provide weekly updates and great content. Many of the negative reviews say that they are having to split time between Medieval Engineers and Space Engineers, which is completely un-true. There are two equally capable teams for each game, giving both games the attention it deserves.

If you like using your creative side of your brain, Space Engineers is for you. The possibilities are endless in this game. First thing I would recommend is to join a server to play on. Playing with others is TONS more fun. :D

Though this game is still in Alpha, and has a few annoying bugs and Glitches, I still love the Hell out of it. I'd recommend this game to anyone in a heart beat.

Amazing for serious survival players aswell as chill creative players. Survival can get boring sometimes, but then all you have to do is go raiding the NPC ships, and it will not be boring anymore. One of my favorite sandbox games of all time.

I can only say positive things about the team that is currently developing Space Engineers. They are easily the most dedicated and reliable developers I've ever had the pleasure of watching. Over the past.. year and half? I don't know, whatever, they have grown what was little more than a tech demo into a game that is incredibly immersive.

If you like sandboxes, space, and physics, this is the game for you.

I love this game.

For the first 30 hours I just made crappy attempts at ships and crashed them into asteroids.

For the remainder if the time I've been playing a survival world(Galaxy? Universe?), with my brother, and its been great fun.

I can't build an Ikea wardrobe for ♥♥♥♥ but I can certainly build a fabulous fighter jet.
9/10

Will have 11/10 when I can be forcefully impregnated by Aliens.

Interesting game that allows you to be creative in the realm of space. However this game is very boring to play by yourself in my opinion. This game is also not greatly optimized and the graphics still require improvement, but the game generally updates every week and the devs take input from the community.

From the very first videos that promoted this game prior to its launch on Steam, the game looked impressive, melding a voxel game (similar in nature to another popular game) to a deformable physics platform set in Space.

From it official launch in 2013, Space Engineers has been in Early Access.
By no means has it been a smooth ride, but each week the developers have been adding to and improving the game, adding features requested by the community, as well as adding their own particular enhancements.

The game has grown substantially in that time, making Space Engineers an impressive multiplayer sandbox experience.
The developers have hinted at many new things on the horizon which will no doubt improve the game play immensely and expand the playability when they are released in the coming months.

I've personally spent more hours playing this game than any other in my Steam catalogue, and hope to continue playing for a long time to come.

- If you like building stuff....
- If you like smashing stuff...
- If you like flying space ships...
- If you like exploring massively open space...
- If you like encountering random procedurally generated items...
- If you like building/flying model replicas of famous SciFi ships...
- If you like competing with players to build the biggest meanest ship to pit against one another...
- If you like experimenting with physics...
- If you like the community experience of sharing things you have made...
- If you like a game with a large community following...
- If you like a game where players can actively contribute modifications to expand the game...
- If you seeing a developer actively spending time to improve their game...
Then please consider having a look at Space Engineers.

Actually I played this game for 2 hours and I like it very much. I had a lot of fun when I played with my friends. Graphics are ok. MANY things to do. Nice concept. I recomend it especially for players who like Minecraft and games with open world. Find few friends to play with and build your own space station!

Love it all!
Keen House Software has been doing a good job so far.

Only:

If regular people (non-modders) can go into like a block editor and Keen House gives them tools, etc. to design
their own block and post it on steam or even get it implemented into the game.
