Preview Video for New 1.3.0 Wand Skill

Here's a short preview video of a new area-of-effect Wand Skill that we're introducing in Content Update 1.3.0. The skill causes physical damage explosions around the target that don't overlap it. As you can see in the video, it's pretty powerful when supported by Chain or Multiple Projectiles. On a related note, if you guys have any awesome name suggestions for this skill, we're keen to hear!

You look so familiar...
Diablo? Is it you?
No, you're not him but you look so similar.
The dark and brownish color of the land.
The hellish color of the blood.
Evil is everywhere.
Every footsteps land on a tombstone.
Your forsaken master sent you on a painful path.
You've been in exile for years.
Now you're back to claim your title.
Lord of Hack and slash.

The Good :

+Satisfyingly Gory
+Versatile classes
+Great Replay Value
+Decent music and Graphics
+PvP, PvE, Party Enabled PvE
+Ingame shop only relates to Character appereance and Stash relics
+Enviroment Design, Variety on monsters.

The bad:
- Game Desyncs often
- Complicated currency
- High appereance prices

I would have quote a stupid moment I ecountered and gave this game a 10/10 rating, but I will write something honest to actually let people know some basic thoughts from people who played this game.

Path Of Exile is a balanced free to play top view dungeon RPG, very similar to Diablo series. Including 6 Classes and Unlocks 1 hidden class, the Scion after you kill the final boss Dominus on Act 3. The game features 3 Difficulties, giving more challenge to the player.

Each class is EXTREMELY versatile, fully customizable that you can shape a character for the class of your likes. Especially Scion she can be everything from magician, tank, assasin, ranger etc. Craft your items, Create personal space (Hideouts) decorate them, complete quests, create guilds, fight against other players in PvP and complete quests toghether with other people by forming a party.

The only major issues I've had with this game is BSOD without a dedicated Sound Card which should have been taken care of awhile ago (I have a Sound Blaster Zx so I'm in the clear now), grinding hours on end for decent loot, and the most notable desync issues. Other than that, great hardcore ARPG at its finest.

Dark Souls + Diablo = Path of Exile

Side Comment:
You are going to hear a lot of people compare this game to the Diablo Series, yet if you have played Diablo, you are going to easily make the same comparison! Have not played Diablo? Then you now have an idea of what Diablo is like. [Congratulations, if you like this you may now just be tempted to buy some of the Diablo games.]

Actual Review:
This game has been amazing and it's definatly not like any of your other Free-To-Play Steam Games. As mentioned by the producers, they actually tried to make MADE this game no where close to Pay-To-Play "if" at all. There is an option to spend money on some costume/gear but does not effect your stats which I like a lot. So if you are Sir/Madam Moneybags who enjoys just tossing money around, there is an option for that. Graphics are very good, I have yet to find a superior glitch that affects game play and the game runs smooth on my computer. However there has been many complaints about a long loading screen when you open up the game, but I have no problem with it as it actually does not take that long. [Sometimes it helps to click around or minimize it then pull it back up.] All n' all everything is great, the gear is fitting, battle is smooth, and the story is really good. Love that their is seperate pieces that you can find and look into.
Another thing I tend to enjoy is that you don't have to deal with numerous of players on the maps which usually causes lag as you run through the maps by yourself (Or with friends). Though if you do enjoy seeing other people, you will be able to see them in the towns and you can chat with them through a Global Chat. That annoys me however as most of them are only trying to sell gear or are being utterly ridiculous. If you can happen to ignore it, you will be fine.

To the Haters:
It's unfortunate people try to down this game for silly reasons. Those who don't enjoy the game for silly reasons should understand that it could be because of your computer, you are not playing a genre you are familiar with, you are just too damn picky, or you have nothing better to do. Though I do understand if someone has an actualy reason, then I respect that but is there really a true reason to not like this game?

As a big fan of Diablo 2's visual presentation coupled with great music and a broody, dark and menacing atmosphere I found myself very dissappointed with Diablo 3. That said I was very relieved when I first played the beta to Path of Exile. Although the beta for POE was not as polished and the gameplay abit clunky compared to D3, when POE launched the final version they did so with "guns ablazing". The final version is slick, fluid and visually pleasing. And with the FF7 inspired "MATERIA" or "GEMS" as POE calls them I find no reason to return to the D3 debauchery that many of us waited so long for. In the end I give POE an 8\10 only falling short a 9\10 because of how short the game is. But I highly recommend POE to anyone who is a fan of action RPG's and Diablo 2.

Path of Exile is a truly free to play dungeon crawler that will make someone watching a video clip think it is from the "Diablo" series. It isn't Diablo but it is in my opinion a better game than the Diablo series. There are six playable characters at the start and once the game has been beaten once and a side mission at the end of the game (that is along the required walking path but is optional) unlocks the seventh class.

All skills are based on gems that are tied to either Intelligence (Blue), Strength (Red), or Dexterity (Green). While gems of a certain color do highly favor one syle of gameplay (red = melee attacks most of the time) their are exceptions such as a red gem unlocking a "Totem", basically a distraction device skill. Items have sockets to place the gems in. While you can use more than 8 skills, the UI sets up the bindable skill keys to Mouse Left Click, Mouse Middle Click, Mouse Right Click, Q, W, E, R, T keys. So when playing 8 skills are generally available with Mouse Left Click usually being bound to a hybrid of basic weapon melee attack and movement. Gems level up from the same experience your character gains. The gems just level up at different rates from your character class. The gems also have the same type of restrictions that items do such as minimum level and minimum stats (intelligence, strength, and dexterity) in order to equip them. This means that you could play as a Witch (Pure intelligence character build) and socket a red gem for a skill you'll never use. The gem will gain levels but it would be a better choice to stash the red gem for another character to use.

Gems/skills are modified by the extensive passive leveling system. Each level up and some quests give points to follow along the giant path available to you. The leveling "board" for lack of a better term is the same for all characters but different characters start at different places on the board. Here is a link for the seventh class, the Scion, who starts in the very middle of the board.

The most interesting part of this game is that it does not have gold as a currency. There are something like 40 different currency items but they are acquired by trading in equipment. So everything you sell will come back as a currency that benefits in game as well as allowing trading with other players to be a lot more varied. Static prices don't really exist and almost all items that can be bought from NPCs are there for a specific reason.

This leads to the one flaw in the game, inventory management. Trading with NPC vendors requires knowing some "recipes", certain combinations of items that give back the best payment. You start the game with 4 pages in your cross-character "stash" and the same inventory size for every character. There is no increasing character inventory size. You can increase your stash size but that does cost real life money. A 4 page stash means making stockpiles to fulfill recipe requirements and frequently selling. With more tabs a user could get better returns on their equipment. I'd like more stash pages but the game doesn't require having 4 to be a good player. It just severally restricts how many items you can horde. Hording wouldn't be a problem if there was any type of inventory sorting but there is not. Unfortunately at latter game interverals art assets get reused so it can be difficult to tell between the low level item you want to trade versus the high level item you've been saving.

In conclusion, I recommend the game. Just be sure to learn the economic system of the game before you start playing it.

like some sort of horrifying cancer that just won't stay in remission, this game has invaded my life in ways that frighten me, from my 300+ hours on record to my rather disturbing and highly nsfw trollfiction i wrote about it, to making a video of it with what basically amounted to n64 visuals

the game has stolen my soul, for reasons i can't even name, there are better arpgs out there and the problem with poe is that it's basically the grindiest game with the most ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ "meta" where most builds you make will probably fall apart around act 3 on cruel, some of the ideas range from "cool but not really useful" to "awful and invasive" such as the ♥♥♥♥ing over-reliance on trading to get certain items or the ♥♥♥♥ING RNG, with a community so toxic from what i recall that general chat is often left on for me so i can gaze in awe at just how a bunch of sweaty nerds can REALLY start arguing over lol versus dota versus poe for some ♥♥♥♥ing reason even though it's not even a moba

and yet, i find myself drawn to it, because for some reason that same ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ meta hasn't stopped me from making some really fun build ideas WORK, the community isn't really needed to interact with, and while most of the items are kinda boring some of the uniques are genuinely entertaining to build characters around, as well as something about wiping out entire groups because of cold aoe damage coupled with crits being infinitely satisfying to me

send help, i can't stop playing no matter how much i try to tear myself away

This one is truly free-to-play, but it feels like a AAA title. The maps are beautiful and the ambient sounds are the stuff of nightmares. I haven't enjoyed a hack and slash game like this since Diablo II. Path of Exile has proven to be challenging and enjoyable, especially when played with friends and family.

Do yourself a favor and add this game to your library. It won't cost you a thing.
