It's a good game in general. In some aspects like the diablo games yet so different (Unlike some other genres and games that just rip off each other to the end of the world -.-)

One MAJOR difference that you'll notice quite fast is that the active skills come in the form of gems in a vast variety that you insert into your gear (and can remove, don't worry). The next thing you'd notice is that the passive skill tree is F******G MASSIVE

Graphic wise I think it's great and not lagging at all (Nvidia GEFORCE GTX 760m) besides when my internet connection sucks a**.

You can also enhance your gear using various orbs scrapmetal and whetstones (which for some reason also enhances a wooden wand...). turning normal items into magical or even rare quality is a big + in my book

It's awesome and it's free, go get it... now...

EDIT: Would REALLY love if the dev team could make the startup screen do something so it looks less like the game has frozen or crashed

Not a fan of the multi player aspect of it, mainly because of spam and the chat taking up a good portion of the screen. I do like the story so far though and the play and controls are easy to get into.

Pretty much Diablo, though.

I am not an ARPG fan. In fact, the genre bores the ♥♥♥♥ off of me. When I initially gave PoE a go right when it came out of beta it was more of the same. Hideously basic play, with about as unintuitive of a skill tree as you could ever have nightmares about.

Fast forward to now. You can probably guess from the number of hours played that things have changed. The skill tree is still incredibly complex but it's been separated out by class and makes it much clearer how progression can occur. Graphically the game has been tweaked over time to be much more detailed. The gameplay is similar to your typical ARPG but with one minor difference: It's actually FUN. There's much more A than RPG which is perfectly fine with me.

Unfortunately there are major issues with the game's performance at times. While it looks fine it isn't a graphical powerhouse, but the game is plagued by massive amounts of slowdown and stuttering under certain circumstances. Many of these can be traced to poor decision making early in the development process, such as going with a 32 bit client and minimal usage of multithreading. This is a game that's very much processor-bound which is something I didn't think I'd be typing a decade into the 64 bit era. Overall though... you can live with it. I grew up playing on 386 and 486 computers. I am slowdown incarnate. This doesn't deter me. If, however, you're a complete framerate ♥♥♥♥♥ (as we should all be) it may be a bit disconcerting.

Grinding Gear Games is astonishingly good at interacting with and listening to the community, while maintaining control over their product. The business model is the absolute most fair you could possible imagine. The only things you have to pay for are extra inventory stash tabs (which hold quite a bit of gear each) and aesthetic items such as armor sets, pets, or skill effects. Convenience and pretty, basically. Other devs could definitely learn a lot from this setup.

Give it a go. Worst case scenario you delete it and get on with your life. Best case? You end up hanging out with one of the better F2P games and devs out there.

Before I download a F2P MMO, I need to know if the game is P2W.

Path of Exile (PoE) does not sell:

Experience boosters
Item rarity/quantity boosters (increased through gear only)
Stat buffs (increased through gear/skills only)
Skill tree resets (through in-game currency only)
Cosmetic items with stats
Item quality (increased through in-game currency only)
Megaphones (global chat is open access)
DLCs (non-soundtrack)

The only items in the microtransactions (MTX) store which benefit your charactors directly are the 'currency tabs,' 'stash tabs,' and 'premium stash tabs.'

Stash tabs: Each account has access to four stash tabs by default, sufficient to reach end-game content with. No problem here.

Currency tabs: Functions as a bank. The max stack of currency items is increased (20 for orbs of alterations, for example) to 5000.

It is worth noting buying stash tabs is more bang for your buck if you don't amass lower tier currency, as currency tabs cannot contain items. For comparison, currency tabs are able to 5000 of each currency, while stash tabs are a grid of 144 boxes, each able to hold one stack of currency. Allocating one of your four default stash tabs for currency will suffice. No problem here.

Premium stash tab: Default stash tabs which can be renamed, colored, and set to public. The benefit of purchasing this tab is for the easy indexing (selling) of items.

Grinding Gear Games faced community backlash when they released the option of setting these tabs to public. Public premium stash tabs are able to be indexed by 'poe.trade', the 'auction house' of the economy. The option of indexing one's stash through the application 'Procurement,' is less efficient and not implemented as an in-game function.

If you do plan on selling items through poe.trade instead of trade chat, and index through premium stash tabs instead of 'Procurement', you buy one (4 USD), or premium a default tab (1.5 USD) and you're set.

Conclusion:

To my knowledge, this is one of the best MTX models on the market. It is worth noting you do not need to purchase the forementioned to progress and experience all of which this game has to offer. Contentwise, Path of Exile is an ARPG at the forefront of its genre. It's F2P, there's next to no reason as to why you shouldn't try it yourself instead of taking my word for it.

While I downloaded and run PoE on the official standalone client, please feel free to message me on Steam if you need help.

This game is as complex as you want to make it. By that I mean the more effort you invest into your build the more unique you can make it. Just look at the passive tree and consider how many unique items they have that have the potential to alter everything you do and how you can combine those to unlock hidden aspects you didn't consider before.

That being said, you can get pretty far in the game just winging it with no real effort invested. However, to actually make it to the upper tier levels (For which the only benefit is pride) you will need to really learn the game by reading outside resources since the game offers no in game help.

Still, this is one of my favorite games, period. I highly recommend everyone try it out until you at least get to level 40 or so and by then you'll have a real understanding of how to combine the aspects of the game. If you don't like it at that point, then it's not for you.

Wanted a nice casual RPG game and ended up finding Path of Exile. Great game in all. ALOT of class mobility, I mean ALOT, the passive skill tree is HUGE, I like alot of the concepts that the game has, reminded me of Darks Souls 1 that had little to none tutorial, where I get to find things out on my own. Skills are bought or earned through guests, but doesn't limit you. A warrior can cast spells, as long as he/she has the minimum requirements. Easy to get to lvl 15-20, then it becomes a bit grindy, hack and slass game but fun if played with friends. Story is fun to listen to.

On the not so negative side, I'd expect the game to be a bit more difficult depending on how many people are in a group. Other point is that there is no low settings, so for those playing on notebooks like me are going to struggle a bit. My FPS is usually around 28-45 depending on what is going on, sometimes get's well below 20 if things heat up and have multiple enemies.

All in all a great game and hope that the DEVs put in a low and lower graphics for those not so fortunate

I'm currently using a 2nd gen i3 and intel HD 3000

A group of people died from eating plums that were poisoned.
The news went around town everyone knew what had happened.
One guy ordered the same plums that killed the people in that group.
Spent about 5 hours trying to find them and then gave up and cried.
5 mins later i find them in the town FFS.
I turn in the quest.
The guy then eats the plums knowng they were poison.
*He Dies*
10/10 Would eat a poison plum again
Great game tho,and you don't have to farm the ♥♥♥♥ outta everything too
Well you still can if you want that legendary armor :P

The most amazing free to play game out there, depth-wise, gameplay-wise and replayability-wise, no doubt about it.

Most people often compare D3 vs PoE, then i remind them that a free to play game is putting out more than twice the amount of content as the other game which you'd spend 70-80 euro(with expansion) to play.
It's an obvious choice for me, seeing how Diablo 3 has evolved into the kinda game which you play one week out of the season to restart, play with your friends and then you go back to Path of Exile, because this game does not rely on playing with your friends, does not rely on you playing at the start of a league, or in a league at all.

As for the game in it's entirety, i feel that the graphics are a tiny bit lacking, it has a bit of frame rate issues because it's not very optimized, which is getting fixed by pretty much every patch, the gameplay has a bit of repetitiveness to it, but you will never ever learn every single thing there is to the game, it is next to impossible, therefore the depth to the game is huge, the tons of possibilites in skill, class, build & item variation is what makes this game just brilliant.

I've played this game since closed beta, and i've probably accumulated around 3-4k hours played in the game, and i feel like i'm very lacking in knowledge when it comes to the game still. It's endless fun, and you will not regret giving it a go, aslong as you're willing to put in the hours to make your character succeed!

The amazing game that it is, makes up for any issues that there is, ontop of it being F2P, it's just a flat 10 out of 10.

Similar to Diablo 3 at a glance, but not so much. The game goes much deeper and provides the player with much more information about their character and items. A fun game for those who like to imagine their own builds, and really fun for hardcore players who don't mind putting in the hours. The end game doesn't really get stale and feels rewarding. Hardcore is also an intreresting and genuinely difficult challenge, and the game has a fluid campaign that makes creating and leveling new characters not so painful. I would definitely recommend this game to people who are willing to learn a LOT of things in order to fully enjoy it.

The game is excellent. If you like Diablo or similiar games then this will be a lot of fun.

Pros:
1. Just fun to play
2. Not class based
3. Deal tons of damage
4. Multi-player with fiends
5. Skill gems Give wide variety of skills/spells for everyone
6. Endless loot collection
7. Play how you want

Cons:
1. Lag, lag, lag. (I get booted from the game often. I live in Alabama and use the Texas server. Sometimes I have to go play something else because the lag is so bad.)

Overall though this is a good game and also it is FREE! (It is not P2W either) This alone makes me more forgiving of the lag and dropping issues.

Excellent game, spritual successor to Diablo 2 imo, talent tree can be a little intimidating at first but offers tons of build variations. Definately a must play for anyone of the ARPG genre, and it has the best F2P structure ive seen in any game, GGG went above and beyond.

With my time playing Paht of Exile was exellent and i really recomend it to anyone looking for a very fun and lots of mechanics in a Arpg, this is the game you are looking for i have put 125 hours into the game and i am just startingto scratch the surface of this game. it is very unigue with its builds that you can follow other peoples or take the mighty adventure and make you own. Another very fun option to do in Path oof Exile is that they hold Community Events and they are very fun to particpiate in them.

This game deserves an award on its complexity and diversity from the many other Arpgs.
