Performance Improvements in 2.3.3

Content Update 2.3.3 is a patch that's exclusively devoted to introducing a new performance feature for players to beta test. This feature should improve frame rate significantly where there is a lot action on the screen. Jonathan, our Technical Director, has created a video showing off the improvements that are possible.

When we launched Path of Exile 2.3.0 alongside the Prophecy Leagues, we added multithreading to the game client in the form of concurrent resource loading. Until now, though, we didn't have multithreading for regular gameplay. (Multithreading is where multiple CPU cores are used simultaneously to perform different tasks, improving the game's performance).

In 2.3.3 we will be adding a command-line option that will let you turn on frame multithreading. This feature allows the game to use more of your CPU cores for regular gameplay. We hope to have this feature enabled for all users in 2.4.0.

As show in the video, in high action situations we have seen performance improvements of more than 2x the regular frame rate when bound by CPU performance.

This is the second round of our performance-focused improvements, but we are not done yet. We still have a port to D3D11 and much more planned for the future.

Improvements to the Website

Earlier this year, we hired a second web developer. In the past, we've only had singular web developers working alone. While they've all been great, this has only been enough man-power to cover the essentials of what the website needs. Now that we have a second pair of hands, we've been able to work on more of the non-essential but good-to-have features!

For more information, check out the full news post.

Not a bad game besides its a Diablo copy 100%. Graphics are good, the story reminds me of the Diablo 2.
I recommend this to those who want to play "Diablo" for free.

An all round fun and entertaining game , although mastering thhe gem systems , and other things can take some time and practice. Aside from that the game takes time and love , but has a fun community and gaminng experience. The onnly main complaint is that micro transaction prices are ridiculous , howerver none of them are needed to fully enjoy the game since all combat related stuff is free in game and theres nothing that you need in the micro store.

This is every Diablo 2 players wet dream of what Diablo 3 should have been, wonderfully varied randomization widely ranged areas wonderful crafting, amazing loot variety, monster variety with the classic rogue-like appearance of loot affixes on mobs to make them just as random as the loot, amazing build variety. All wrapped in lore that is taken seriously (immersive not cartoonish or silly) with twists that even a jaded and worldly or educated gamer/fantasy buff will appreciate (see below) the game is crafted better than most indie games and a lot of so called AAA titles should be jealous and the little touches are all over the place, the amount of times you'll say to yourself "oh yeah that's how this should work in all games to bad game XYZ didn't do it this way." are uncountable.

At it's heart POE is a graphically slick (though they aren't cutting edge they are excellent when zoomed out and considering this is not a major budget title) rogue like complete with a game mode (hard core mode which drops you into standard mode when you die so it's not technically perma death) which is very rogue-like, the loot is generated or pre-made with random rolls (called a unique) but there's a metric ton of it as a rogue-like. and the levels are very very well crafted procedural generation as you expect in a rogue-like. Like it's often hard to believe the map wasn't hand made by a mapper. Sure you will occasionally run into some obvious evidence of a randomly generated map but you will just as often run into touches that are randomly placed that look like a human placed them, which is to say: their randomized maps are utterly brilliant and detailed beyond any expectation.

The heart of the game is the action of controlling your character and making quick choices and there's no let down here, the game is off the charts in its quality in this regard. The visual feedback, the right amount of hot keyable actions, flasks and active attacks (skills, spells, big melee strikes) movement skills of multiple varieties. So it's got the playground, and it's got the gameplay, and it got the reward (crafting is also amazingly flexible but there's a grind) to be honest the formula is simple: make the gameplay and playing area so good that you want to keep playing, and provide a complex enough crafting system and loot system that you a have long term goals to seek. Some people will call this "grind" but that's the word you use when you actually don't enjoy PLAYING THE GAME REPEATEDLY so I call them end game goals and I am glad they are there, along with special end game randomized maps.

So yeah, recommended, I recommend this game if you are a developer and want to see what gamers who loved a game (Diablo 2) can do when they put the work in and make an even better version that truly stands out and is more than Diablo 2 that gets things right that Diablo 2 didn't and could have in D3. The game is free no really free as in you can play if for 3 years and it's still free, but you'll want to spend some money it's that good and these guys deserve to make a living making games. The "pay to win" (in quotes because I mean the silly MMO PvE version of that term) is non existent, you can't level faster with money you can't have better loot with money, you can be more shiny and sparkly and you can have more stash space, hell they don't even ask you to BUY YOUR HIDEOUT (player housing yeah it's got that).

The touches in this game that should be looked at by ANY game developer by themselves as ways to craft a really quality and intuitive experience abound. A quick and very partial bullet list of where POE should be looked at for leadership:

* how to do free to play
* how to not do "pay to win"
* how to do an end game
* the currency system is inspired you feel like someone Exiled to a dead continent of an ancient fallen civilization with other exiles because the currency is actually BARTER it's useful as more than just a coin, it all has important crafting functions in the game because of this it must be complicated but you start to get a feel for it and realize how inspired a design it is
* how to make inventory that incentivizes players to play the game instead of "virtual pack mule" trucking loot to the vendor all night
* Long term game-play goals (aka loot grind again it's not grind if you enjoy the process of playing your character)
* how to do crafting that is both totally powerful (can make end game gear) but also involved enough, uncertain enough and goal oriented AKA "grindy" enough to make it a great system
* how to embrace the RNG for the good of variety and long term play
* how to not get trapped by players meta gaming the same quests over and over abusing the same mechanics (as in theme park MMO)
* how to make spooky and creepy and altogether absorbing dungeons and fantasy lore
* amazing sound design and voice acting is AAA quality
* some of the best game music I've heard in years ACTII's main area theme goes through my head as I type this.

Obviously highly recommend you play this game if exploring dungeons and great fantasy lore are your jam.

So anyway I wasn't going to leave without that "see below" for one tiny Lore richness example: Kauri race (marauder class) are fantasy equivalent to real life Maori warriors but with a dash of Viking-like "raid and concur the mainland" spin and comprises the early lore (about the leader Kaom) it is all just super well done, the Vaal are a fallen acient civilization (a little dash of Egypt with some high magic (to use the D&D term for it) or magictech sprinkled on top) who ever the writer is, they are seasoned fantasy buffs who know how to put in just enough trope to be recognizable and just enough difference to be unique, GGG is based in NZ so that explains the inspired Maori choice for that line of lore. but you're exploring a whole continent so the lore is diverse with multiple story arcs the tid bits and details abound. Inspired but still recognizably fantasy.

The best ARPG, simple as that. In addition to that the game is free and might just have the most fair buisness model when it comes to microtransactions

Oh this is quite a awesome game.

But i still can't recommend it, even if its F2P.

The game is rushless about holding players hands, and as a result, i have many many unanswered questions in the game.

Whats a Corrupted Gem?
What does Stun Threshold mean?
Whats the Labyrinth and the Ascendancy?
Whats a power charge and where does it go?
How do i trade properly?
Whats prophesies for?

So after about 30 hours of gameplay i still have more questions than answers, regarding all the stuff in this game i dont already know from other hack & slash'ers.

It's a great game, it just doesn't explain itself properly.

Too unfriendly for new players.. And i played Monster Hunter series, so it's saying quite a bit that i am giving it up.

As I approach 1,000 hours...

This game deserves a review.

I have spent easily $200+ on microtransaction aesthetic content for this game.

I probably played about 500 hours before I even got to true end-game content.

I still havent come close to building every unique character type I would want to yet.

I don't think that would be possible given ANY amount of time.

If you're reading this and haven't tried this game yet, you're DOING IT WRONG.

Play this game. Now.

After playing this game off and on for almost the past 4 years (since Onslaught league first started) every new update that has come out has never seized to fail me! Everything GGG adds to the game only greatly improves the quality and gameplay of this masterpiece to the point where this game rarely gets boring at all. I've just hit my 1000hr mark on steam and i must say this is definitely one of the best smart and content rich games you will ever play and i don't think i'll be leaving this game anytime soon. Best of all is that with all this great content EVERYTHING is F2P for you to enjoy without spending a single cent.

One of the best free-to-play titles. Microtransactions are entirely cosmetic nothing else. Do try if you like diablo or ARPGS.
