Video game comfort food. It takes no risks and sticks to what it knows:

Install the Ultimate Quake II Patch to restore the Sonic Mayhem soundtrack.

As for the gameplay, it's alright for a 90s PC expansion made by a different developer. The new weapons are a lot of fun to use, but the last few stages can become really tedious having to wittle away at numerous beta class gladiators around every corner that have energy shields and beefed up health. It's not a problem if you're speedrunning, I guess, but in my opinion they tend to slow normal gameplay down because there are so many of these punching bags to go through near the end of the game; not hard, but somewhat boring. The standard Strogg guards are now equipped with hyperblasters, ion rippers, and Warhammer 40K style red laser flashlights that are suprisingly accurate and damaging, unlike the 40K Imperial Guardsman's lasgun. The railgun or rocket launcher makes quick work of them at long range when you get it, though.

TL;DR 7/10, it's alright, worth playing at least once

In this mission pack you look at the story from another point of view and as always new weapons and enemies, good game!

The Reckoning was the first mission pack released for Quake II. Like the first Quake, this mission pack brings in that same single-player fun with plenty of missions to keep your thirst for Quake II busy. A must buy for anyone, like me, that enjoys a lot of single-player fun!

Q1 map packs > Q1 > Q2 > Q2 map packs. A real let down after how good Q2 was. Don't bother with either mission pack for Q2 but definitely play the original's if you have them.

Quake II Mission Pack: The Reckoning was developed by Xatrix Entertainment Inc. and is the second official expansnions to the origina Quake II game. The Reckoning follows Joker, a member of an elite squad of marines on a mission to get into the Moon Base and destroy the Strogg Fleet, which the fleet is preparing to attack. Joker Crash lands in the swamps outside the compound where Joker's squad is waiting. The Reckoning adds Nine new enemies, 3 New Weapons, and 1 new powerup. Music is still good but gameplay doesn't change (as in new Mechanics). Plus today's Price point is rather steep for something like this becasue today's standards you can easily find, download and install tons of mods, maps packs, weapons right off the internet. Quake Map Pack back in their prime around Quake II Release was a god send to gamers. But today they are just over shadowed by mods today. Skip this and go look up some free mods. 5 Dollars is too much for this.
