The Depot Encounter map and the Village Skirmish, Hill Skirmish and Forest Skirmish maps has been updated, making capture zones more consistent and the gameplay more fun! 

Weather and color improvements
The different weather settings for the maps has all been tweaked and updated to bring more vivid colors and less haze to the game and to bring the different graphics settings more in line visually.

This game has just been cleared for release, and as a long term player who's checked then and there every passng update (all the way part from mid-2014 when the Open Beta started, and significantly before the Steam Beta) I cannot agree with that

There are still significant issues everywhere :

- The grind is unbearable, and requires you to spend 100 hours brainlessly playing game after game for minimal returns. Everything is grindable, the levels, the credits, the guns, the explosives, the ribbons, the vehicles, the badges, the attachments, the assault teams, even your knife (which you don't get in any capacity until 5 levels of a ribbon). It's the bad kind of grinding and forces you to play with awful gear for 50 hours before you get the really meta loadouts. Even significant experience at FPS skills will get you so far if you're using a NERF gun against a laser gun
- The Strategy Game is unplayable until 50 hours of grinding... or for a one time fee of 50 DOLLARS (or local equivalent plus tax and handling). It's blatant what they are going for, and even if you decide to grind your way here, the AT deploy queues mean you literally have one shot at playing Generalisimo before it's game over for literal days. And for that matter, you'll have to wait days to deploy your ATs if you're not in for the first hour of the war
- The Action Game has been left equally broken, you have to sprint hundred of meters but all your characters have severe asthma and will explode if you sprint more than 10 meters, meaning his iron sights will fly everywhere. The spawn points are fixed and sometimes have no cover between them and the objective, meaning sniper and tank galore. Sometimes enemy spawn points are DIRECTLY in the way to the objective. The physics engine randomly breaks and will sometimes instantly kill you if you gently bump into something with a vehicle, or send your car to do a sick 180° wheelie when you tried to gently steer right
- There are still horribly powerful equipments that break the entire game, and which are -thoughfully- locked behind walls of grinding... or a small fee of etc. M1/M2 Carbine is basically a modern assault rifle out of nowhere, Chaffee and Hellcat outperform all other tanks due to speed beating armor (bad game mechanics there), the Soviets get a Tank Destroyer disguised as an APC and the PTRD which can one-shot vehicles and infantry which makes it more of a .50 cal rifle than anything, all factions have access to OHK Rifles that ruin the balance and allow you to bodyshot kill soldiers from across the map, LMGs can be hipfire spammed when standing and moving, etc. Will never be addressed, because of all the kids who max their credit card to buy the big bad toys.
- Most of the higher mechanics are horribly unpolished. Backcapping is a valid strategy because caps capture so fast that a single soldier on a motorbike can lock 8 players going for the next point, and no-one defends because you are PUNISHED for it. Literally spamming a car at every spawn is a perfectly valid tactic, and even preferable because "clown cars" are prime targets for tanks sniping across the map and OHK snipers taking potshots at the targets, etc.
- Tanking and Flying are both unrefined. Tankers will quickly find a deathly hate for the so called "AT Rambos", and literally every soldier has an AT nade in its pockets, meaning tanks are relegated to sniping from across the map with HE shells, and of course anti tank. APCR makes armor useless, meaning the King Tiger and the small light tanks with a tiny cannon are about as viable in a direct confrontation. Flying is fine, but clearly they've never doublechecked the XP since I get insane amounts of it for doing nothing useful, and there's still blatant unbalances (German plane gets one bomb, the others get two. No idea why, you go ask them because the Junker is certainly not a beast with MGs OR airborne handling). As for the idea of bombers, close air support, fighter split ? You'd wish.
- A lot of promises and excellent suggestions went literally nowhere over two years. I remember seeing mortar loading slides in the earliest stages of the pre-Steam Beta, those don't exist. Artillery doesn't exist in any capacity either. AA trucks exist apparently, not that you'll see them often. Suggestions for Medic and AT classes to split up the omnipotent Infantry went nowhere. The "factory AT production" got turned into a global and awfully scaled AT production queue. And you are still stuck in 20 v 20 when most maps have four flanks open (only two in Staged because closing a flank nukes all your ATs on that front) which could easily fit a humongous 64 v 64. New maps like special capital maps, naval landing maps, coast maps, more town variations (took them two years to fix the 10-ish maps they had). Oh, and yeah, the promise of "battleships" they just threw out at the recent dev stream. As if that's gonna happen, a whole naval game out of the blue when we can't even get close to finishing the land or air one

The concept is sound, the execution is not. These two years of open beta have been a rollercoaster of bad and good, but now it's just a clusterf**k that is only playable if you are lucky enough to be matched with the right players who don't abuse literally every tactic at their disposal, against 10 Recons that sit across the map instantly killing you unless you're driving in a car (and even then, I've trained to shoot out drivers as a Recon), against 10 Paratroopers that will cap the point behind you and drive you out of the map before you can even sprint your way back.

The development team is incredibly silent and does not appear particularly stressed to adress the foul peasants who are writing long, argumented, researched posts detailing the flaws in the game, instead focusing on adding more overpowered equipment to make people buy it for real cash. Zero communication from the dev team, if the game was broken to the point where people fell out the map every time they spawned we'd be surprised to even see a tweet from them.

I cannot see this game being playable for another year, and that is they fix every item on this list, and don't just wall themselves in silence and pretend nothing bad is occuring.

Edit : Since this has received a surprising amount of attention, I went around and clarified a few points, also I have to say it clearly. The sticking point why I don't recommend this game isn't just "gun X or gun Y is overpowered", but the fact even getting a single clarification or promise from the devs on what they plan to do hinges on the miracle. A quick scan of their own official forums shows devs literally never answer to threads as far as the eye can see, despite the low post traffic that makes it perfectly manageable.

Edit 2 : If you've not been annoyed by AT Deploy Queues because you're not even close to that stage yet, then the queues to GET TO PLAY THE GAME should do the trick, wherever logging in or the insane lobby delays (didn't talk about the matchmaker, but it's not great). I can't even tell what the idea behind this nonsense is. Servers overloaded ? Put more online. You've gotten money from your store for the better of two years, and now you have tons of new players which -might- consider it too, if ever they can play. Just, why ?

A reasonable WWII shooter with a decent strategy compenent. Hamstrung, I'm sure you'll be shocked, by its free to play model.

The gameplay is reasonably solid - hit registration could be strange and frustrating at times, and heavily uneven matches ( e.g infantry vs heavy tanks) usually mean steamrolls unless you have vets familiar with all the derpy technqiues (kamikaze bicycles etc.) on your team.

A decent free experience if you squint but, again like many f2p titles, it is basically a money pit.

The core friction issues with the monetisation have been present since early in development, have been raised repeatedly and never eased much so I don't expect it'll change in any significant fashion.

Worth an evening of your time and probably not much more. If you're looking for something in a similar vein you might find Red Orchestra 2/Rising Storm a good fit - WWII FPS, eastern and pacific fronts, fairly low min requirements and cheap especially on sale.

No, seriously, riding a bike is FUN!

You start with a low level reifleman, play games, get EXP and credit to unlock attachment or better gun or even vehicles and aircraft.

There're four mode, from a small-scale encounter to a war mode with tanks and planes.

This game has no atmosphere, no communication, nothing to really fight for. But it has a LOT of content to make any WW2 fan happy. But also, sadly, the majority of players are basically clueless about what to do ingame thanks to the developers not bothering with tutorials. The main developer even said he personally doesnt believe in them. Nothing like what a War should be. In Heroes and Generals, new players are trained through a grenade spammy map with only one objective to focus on. Doesnt the developers care about making a game that players know how to play instead of running around pretending to be in battlefield or cod? Its frustrating to say the least. But with a F2P game, Il know, ultimately what the developers aim for. A pile of pancakes of content but no bacon or jam to make it really edible. And they claim the game is out of beta? Good one. Piling on with content but no fixing of exploits or buggy mechanics for 2 years is NEVER enough to get it out of beta.Now the new spawns are totally ridiculous.

I've started playing this game long before it has appeared on Steam, so I'll add few words from my perspective, as I've seen how this game developed over the years.

The game consists of 2 main parts- one part is Campaign Map, where people of 3 factions may move their assault squads around cities of Europe and initiate battles, and FPS part, where people jump with their soldiers into these battles initiated by generals, and fight for the objectives. Squads moved by generals on the Campaign map are human resources- for example, there is Motorized Guard squad, which has 36 infantry, and 12 motorcycles. If this Motorized Guard is moved into battle on Campaign Map, then people fighting in this battle will have additional 36 infantry lives, and 12 motorcycles to use. Every death will decrease these resources, which will have to be replenished by general after the battle, or, if the squad loses all lives- redeployed on the Campaign Map.

Back in the days, you were able to have up to 10 squads of any kind and move them around the map as you pleased. You could have 5 infantry squads, 3 tank squads, 1 recon squad and 1 paratroopers squad for example, all you needed really was credits, and these you get while playing. Now it's not that simple as it was before. To be able to deploy squads on the Campaign Map, you have to level your soldier to 12 rank first. Then, you get a command point which allows you to deplot at most 2 squads, depending on their type (for example, Heavy Tank squad requires 2 points, so you can't use it yet). You will get few more points as you level up your soldier, up to rank 18. The point is, you won't get there any time soon. But let's say you are at rank 18, now you have 4 points, so you are able to send at most 4 squads (comparing to 10 back in the old days). But that's ok, as rank 18 allows you to switch soldier's carrer to General, so you can level him further up to rank 22, and at rank 22 you will have 10 squad points. Good luck getting to 22 though, you will need it. Or just pay them to get a General right away, it's that simple!

What's more, you can't happily spam your squads, as now there is global queue for all generals. Basically, capturing factories on the Campaign Map increases resource production for that faction, which is evenly distributed across all the generals of that faction. For example, owned factiores may allow your faction to deploy 100 Motorized Guard per hour, so if there are a lot of other generals deploying this type of squad, you'll have to wait in queue untill it appears on the Campaign Map. The longest time I've waited for deploy, was 2 days. However, this system may not be a bad idea, as it eliminates the old issue, where few rich guys with multiple accounts were able to turn the side of the war, or even win the war themselves.

But okay, Campaign Map is not even than fun to bother grinding the General, so let's forget about this for a moment, and focus on FPS part. It's cool, and with recent optimization patches it works much better, is more stable, and gives more frames per second (at least for me, which is weird considering a lot of people have their fps dropped after recent patch). It feels like real war (just physics needs to improve, but RETO is working on this constantly), most of the time if you get a shot, you are dead, like in the old Operation Flashpoint games. There are no indicators of the enemy, unless someone spots them, then it get's marked for a few seconds. Tanks are pain in the ♥♥♥ though. There are tons of equipments, weapons, vehicles, sure, but to unlock them- it will take MUCH time (or money). Sure, you can't expect much from the F2P title, but come on, it was much better back in the old days.

With recent patches, you can't swap weapons while in battle. It was possible to change weapons after death, you had to just quit the game, swap weapons and back to the game. People used to adapt to situation- much close quarter combat? Take MP40. Many enemy tanks around? Take bazooka. Now it's not that simple- you can't just swap weapons between respawns. Now you have to make another soldier to equip him different set of weapons! What's the funny part? There is no funny part, it's f*cking nightmare. They require you to make new soldier just to be able to equip freaking bazooka, so you can use it along with other weapons. And if you finally unlock something and then buy it for one soldier, be it weapon, vehicle, whatever, it's bound to that particular character! You can't give that weapon to another soldier!

But it doesn't stop there. You want to drive a tank? Then make another soldier, and level him up! But what's that, you can only drive a weak light tank? Well, grind more, to unlock another light, and another one, to finally unlock medium tank! And then another medium, and maybe some day you'll get to Tiger, or even Tiger 2. Wanna play as paratrooper? No problem, just make another soldier for that! Wanna fly planes? Make one more soldier! Wanna play as recon? Make another soldier to do this!

And what if you wanted to change sides in the next war, and play Americans instead of Germans? Well, it's like you start from scratch! Except you can keep your credits, as they are the only thing (along with gold and warfunds) shared between all your soldiers. So prepare for even more grind!

Seriously, the grind is real. I CAN'T imagine anyone starting the game right now as a newbie, and enjoy the game. I simply can't. You can't enjoy the game with basic bolt action rifle while fighting against veterans, and you can't enjoy the game with no access to any vehicle (not counting the bicycles), because maps are pretty big.

I can't recommend this game to anyone, even though I've spent a lot of time here, and will probably spend much more, but I've played a lot earlier and grinded my way when it was much, MUCH easier.

It doesn't matter it's early access. It's early access for few good years already, and I'm pretty sure it will never get released.

If you want to start playing, prepare for a lot of pain, or for spending a lot of money. As a newbie you will not even have a car to spawn in, you'll have to find bicycle to get to the capture points, or just run. Or maybe someone will give you a ride.

One thing I like about H&G is that it's completely free to play. You can literally buy everything in game for in-game currency, except for Warbonds (things that cost gold, and pay you back the whole sum you paid, with additional % over few months). The thing is, the grind is unbearable, especially for new character, where you are matched against fully equipped veterans with only your bolt action rifle.


Pros:
+ a lot of equipment, weapons, vehicles to choose from
+ bicycles
+ you can whistle
+ feels good when you kill someone
+ it's NOT P2W, but farming credits is super slow, and you need them everywhere

Cons:
- a lot of grinding (or a lot of money spent)
- rather small playerbase, and mostly veterans, who started playing years ago like me (surpsingly for me, steamdb has shown 4k people playing yesterday, and probably more outside of Steam)
- explosion sounds
- physics
- graphics COULD be better, but personally, there's something in it I like
- forever beta Looks like it's finally released.

For a new player I'd rate it 5/10. For me it's like 6+/10.

How to get rid of your 80% negative reviews: get the game out of beta.

You have to repair your grenades.

When the game came to steam they didn't bring content first, they came up with the P2W crap so you could pay for this unfinished java crap.

They banned people ingame because they talked to much on reddit about the bad balance and crappy development. And again, they came out of beta just to trick people, so that their "very negative" status was gone, just for a while anyways.

Unfinished, broken, unbalanced game.

Shady company that does shady business, often does ninja nerfs:
I have a lot of hours in this game, but last half a year RETO has been spitting in to their player faces.
First cuts their armies in half, then slightly decreases grind in order to do a ninja patch to double ot tripple the prices for all the units.

This game was great fun for a time. Sure, some of the animations are a bit janky, and sure, some of the maps might have small gaps through which you can glimpse into the aether, but it was FUN. Think of it like a poor man's Battlefield. Capture points, gear unlocks, vehicles, all good stuff. I can't remember the last time a multiplayer game kept me clued to the monitor for more than a couple of hours, this game did.

But then. Once you level up your profile to a specific rank, your matchmaking group is upgraded into what I believe is called the 'Gold group', meaning that you will be matched against everyone else who has ever hit Gold. That's right, you're ranked by your play time, not your unlocks (which take a really long time, or a lot of RL money), not your skill, by your ♥♥♥♥ing play time.

Once I was placed into 'Gold' it was like I hit a brick wall. Everybody's got tanks, everybody's got fighter planes, everybody's got the best guns, while I had ♥♥♥♥ all. Getting stomped and not being abled to do anything about it is not a whole lot of fun.

This game has an unforgiving matchmaking system: after you play with newbies like yourself for 10 hours roughly, it will matchmake you with players with all kinds of high-level weapons and tanks and god knows what else. You'll have to grind hundreds of hours(literally!) or pay real money if you want not to just be a frag on a tiny bicicleta.

First 12 hours were fun. But as you get higher lvl they put you in matches vs tanks, snipers and weapons which you buy or have to grind for hundreds of hours. Becomes very very P2W, and the grind is huge.

But the craziest part is how expensive everything is. Veteran status costs like 2400 gold a month, you get double XP and +25% more credits. It's a joke, you pay every month but all it does is makes your grind easier, but you still have to grind. And the best part is you can't buy 2400 gold. It is either 1400 for 6.95, 2200 for 9.95 or 5100 for 19.95. So either you have to buy the big pack or 2 smaller ones.

You want to get those guns faster? Maybe buy a soldier with higher starting lvl? It will cost you alot more or you will grind forever.

Seriously, better pay 4 eur a month for EA subscription and play Battlefield.

One of the best WW2 games I have ever played, Very fun game. Hard work pays off! or spend $50 and get a max lvl character and whatever weapons of your choice. Unlike other FTP, Even if you try to pay to win you have as much of a chance as someone who didnt. Its all about skill and how well your PC is. I play this on a computer (NON-Gaming) with VOF all the way up, And all settings all the way down and I lag pretty good but can still play the game on a small game mode. They continuely add new content. Helpful community but... Not always the most responsive in battle. Very fun with a group of friends.

I love this game overall. Yes it does have some quirks but once you have some friends to play with. Its ALOT of fun! No its not PTW... Just like any other online game like this there will be a membership where you can get extra experience and extra credits after each match. BEWARE though, this game is rage inducing.

The only con about this game I have is that its so easy to get an aim bot. It says it has "anti-cheat" software but it doesnt work....and this is where the rage comes in. You may get shot with a sub-machine gun from across the map....BUT other than that its alot of fun if you enjoy Multiplayer Shooters

This game is well presented and really fun to play, although sometimes seeming simple, the coolaboration between team mates and the comunity mate it an extrimly fun and awesome game to play. Also thank you to the developers who seem to really like their product, showing a lot of effort every patch.
