What the developers have to say:

Why Early Access?

“When we started developing Heroes & Generals it was with the intention of creating a game for the gamers as much as for ourselves. The games we have been creating in the past (back in the IO Interactive days) have all been shrouded in secrecy until they were released and therefore always carried a number of things that players did not like but we were unable to change. Because it is the players that in the end plays the game we think they should have greater influence on the development.

Since the very early days of the project in 2011 (pre-alpha stage), we invited players in to play the game and have involved our community in the making of Heroes & Generals and listened to the feedback from them. So it's a natural extension of the way we develop Heroes & Generals, to also include the Steam Community, by going Early Access.”

Approximately how long will this game be in Early Access?

“We're approaching the end of our Open Beta/Early Access phase, but it's still too soon for us to put a date on when we'll launch.”

How is the full version planned to differ from the Early Access version?

“We're still tweaking, fixing bugs and adding new features to Heroes & Generals, and even though we feel that the game is now fun and quite stable, we still wish to get all things 'just right' before we call it 'launched'.

We do not plan to do a full server reset when the game launches.”

What is the current state of the Early Access version?

“We're in the end of our Open Beta phase, preparing for launch.”

Will the game be priced differently during and after Early Access?

“Heroes & Generals is Free2Play. We wish to create a healthy, solid and well-balanced game and community, where you can get a great experience playing the game, no matter how much money you spend! There is already an in-game economy in place, where you earn in-game credits and warfunds for being active in the game, by playing FPS-missions and/or handling Assault Teams.

You can also buy gold, which you can use to buy practically everything, usually it give you the option of buying stuff ‘early’, so you don’t need to grind that much. We also offer a Veteran Membership to accommodate wishes of having an all-inclusive package, where you earn xp, ribbon-xp, in-game credits and warfunds at an increased rate etc.

Prices are regularly being tweaked now in Open Beta/Early Access and we will most likely still tweak prices at and after launch.”

How are you planning on involving the Community in your development process?

“We encourage the players to participate in discussions in our forum: http://forum.heroesandgenerals.com/

When you write feedback about the game, remember to try and explain your reasons. Constructive criticism will help us build a better game for you.”

This monster is going to sweep you off your tracks – The US M10 Tank Destroyer incoming with the Furness update

Not only can the US faction enjoy the Jumbo, but the US M10 Tank Destroyer will blow their mines!

The M10 was the first vehicle to establish the American style of WWII tank destroyer and numerically the most important tank destroyer of WWII. This tank destroyer is often referred to as the “Wolverine”, but the origins of the nickname are unknown. It is assumed that the nickname was invented after the war, as the soldiers simply called it TD.

The M10’s doctrine is to exchange heavy armor with heavy guns to enable maneuverability and ambush tactics against German tank breakthroughs. Agility and speed is the M10’s defense.

In the game the M10 is equipped with a 3 inch Gun M7 and can be upgraded with Armor Piercing Composite Rigid and High Explosive Ammunition and one supply crate.

Give it to me

Us Tank Crewman can unlock the M10 at Armor Assault Ribbon Rank 6 and equip it as a Tank Destroyer.

The M10 on the Battlefield

The M10 battalions were attached to Infantry to provide additional direct and indirect fire support and attacking obstacles such as fortifications and enemy vehicles. The M10 had its debut in the North African Campaign in 1943, but also took part in the Normandy campaign and the 899th Tank Destroyer Battalion equipped with M10’s blunted a German counter-attack near Le Desert and diminished the German forces in a fierce two day battle.

The Furness update introduces more Firepower– The Soviet T-28 Model 1934

After the SU-76M Tank Destroyer, the Furness – Fist of Steel Update also introduces a new Medium Tank for the Soviet Faction: The T-28 Model 1934.

The T-28 was one of the worlds first Medium Tank and just as its heavier counterpart the T-35, a multi-turreted tank. It was similar to the British Vickers A1E1 Independent Tank, which influenced the design of the T-28. The T-28 Model 1934 was the main production model of this early tank.

The T-28 Model 1934 is equipped with a 76,2mm KT 28 cannon and two 7,62mm DT Machine Guns for the support Gunners. It can be upgraded with Armor Piercing Composite Rigid and High Explosive Ammunition, as well as equipped with one Supply Crate.

How can I get my hands on this?

This Medium Tank unlocks for Soviet Tank Crewmen on Armor Assault Ribbon Rank 4.

The T-28 on the Battlefield

The T-28 was predominantly used during the Winter War against Finland. During that time, many of the tanks were knocked out, but due to their easy repair-ability, only 20 were irrecoverably lost. The Finns nicknamed the tank Postivaunu – the mail coach after they captured a lone Soviet T-28 Tank Commander whose T-28 was full of monthly salaries and mail addressed to the 91th Battalion. Another nickname the Finns gave this tank was Kivitalo – stone building, due to its sheer size. While the French still only had the Renault FT, the British some Vickers Medium Mark I & II and the Germans no tanks at all, the Soviets were ahead of the pack with the T-28 until later in WWII.

Ah, how I love this game.
I believe there is currently no better WWII multiplayer game out there, and while there are bad aspects to this game; such as the slow progression at the start, and the fact that you have to start off using low-damage, low fire rate weapons against machineguns that destroy you in split seconds at any range, as well as the battles that are often extremely one-sided, with one team having complete domination, this game is extremely fun and hilarious with friends. The combat mechanics are great, and the game's community is awesome. When I got this free-to-play game I never thought I'd be spending more than 30 hours on it. Here I am with over 600 hours and I love it :D

Game is good, nuff said.

Although, if you are looking for a review, you are in the wrong place. for you foodies out there, here's an outstanding Poutine recipe.

Ingredients

4 pounds russet potatoes, cut into 1/4 inch matchsticks
2 of your favorite beers, I used a Canadian beer (can sub water)
4 tablespoons unsalted butter
1/4 cup flour (use a gluten free flour blend if needed)
1 shallot, finely minced
1 clove garlic, minced or grated
3 1/2 cups low sodium beef stock
1/2 cup stout beer (or more beef stock)
2 tablespoons ketchup
1 tablespoon balsamic vinegar
2 teaspoons worcestershire sauce
salt and pepper, to taste
canola oil, for frying
3 cups cheddar cheese curds

Instructions

Place the cut potatoes in a large bowl, cover with beer (or cold water) , and refrigerate for 3 minutes to 2 hours, the longer the better.Meanwhile, make the gravy. Heat the butter in a large saucepan over medium-high heat. Add flour, and cook, stirring, until smooth, about 2 minutes. Add the shallot and garlic, and cook, until soft, about 2 minutes. Add the beef stock, ketchup, stout beer, balsamic vinegar, worcestershire, and a pinch of salt and pepper, and bring to a boil; cook, stirring, until thickened, about 6 minutes. Keep over the lowest setting while you fry the potatoes. You may need to add more beef stock to thin if the gravy gets too thick.Pour the canola into a 6-qt. Dutch oven, filling it about 3 inches up the sides. Heat over medium heat until a deep-fry thermometer reads 375 degrees F. Drain potatoes, and dry thoroughly with paper towels. Working in small batches, add potatoes and fry, tossing occasionally, until tender and slightly crisp, about 4 minutes. Remove from the oil and drain on paper towels. Increase the temperature to high, and heat oil until thermometer reads 425 degrees F. Working in small batches, return potatoes to oil, and fry, tossing occasionally, until crisp and golden brown, about 2-4 minutes. Transfer fries to paper towels to drain. Sprinkle the fries with salt.Immediately divide the fries among serving bowls. Divide the cheese curds over the fries. Now make sure that your gravy is piping hot and pour the gravy over each serving of cheese fries. Dig in immediately... as if you could wait!

this game seemed very fun and it was for me, but after hearing about countless bans for absolutly no reason im not going to spend a single dime on this game. nor should anyone else. iv see nand herd about bans for no reason. bans for expressing polotical opinions. and bans for being accused of being a hacker without concrete evidence when in reality thye were innocent. this goes to show you how badly the company treats its consumers. they are only in it for the money not for the well being of the community or for the game itself. honestly this company needs to learn a thing or two about how to actually manage their games.

It feels like its very pay2win, the grind feels like its too much (maybe it is, maybe it isn't) almost like they want you to buy gold instead of farming the coins (dunno what its called). Tank are OP af, grenades doesnt damage them one bit and the panzer grenade launcher barely damages them even if you hit them in the back. I believe there should be a ''killcam'' if im not misstaken but it doesnt work (even if it is Beta, it should work to some degree)

Pros: I like that it plays out in the WW2 era as my father made me watch ww2 movies when i was younger.
Love the maps.

Cons: Tanks too OP
The grind feels heavier than it might be.

This is what i thought of the game after playing for about 4 hours i think. Gonna keep playing it to see if there are any changes.

Terrible. To a new player, this game is near impossible to play. Seems like everything you click on is an ad. You are lead to believe you have multiple options when making various selections, but it all just leads to more and more ads. Not to mention the gameplay itself is lackluster. Don't waste your time.

After being away from playing H&G for about 3 weeks I logged in to find my account had been banned because of "cheating/hacking". I am an older gamer (50), and have seen the internet from the beginning. I have played many online games in my day and NEVER have I cheated at nor attempted to learn a hack in my life. After submitting a ticket and explaining to RETO about this thier reply was basically tough luck and refuse to even discuss the matter with me. I spent a small amount fo real $ on this game and actually enjoyed it. But after this rip-off and disrespect to me I will take every chance to defam this pices of junk game as well as to speak down to the staff that has any hand in this game. If this is the way paying customers are treated, you would be a fool to have any part of it.

Permanently banned for expressing a political opinion casually in chat with someone of like mind. Not even a warning just straight to perma-ban. I had spent money on the game tool. Very unprofessional staff, couldn't even do a temporary ban or any kind of warning. Their political agenda takes priority over the quality of the actual customers it seems.

To keep it simple, the game is not worth to play anymore, they don't even test things anymore before putting it on live server, every update is just more junk that the developers are throwing in the game before even they finish the cleanup from the untested and game breaking stuff that hey throwed in the previous build.

I'm in a process to get rid of playing this game after almost 3k hours spended, really hard when you need to leave because there is no hope anymore.

NOT WORTH PLAY THIS GAME!

This game used to be fun. And after putting 1000+ hours in this game, they finally managed to completely turn me away from what I believed would have a very good chance to be an actual game at a certain point. There have been ups and down, but after this 'everhart' update, it feels like I was getting my testicles removed by a hammer....one....at...... time. This update pretty much tried to make the game much more immersive but in reality it just cloaked over the teleportation when you get off a vehicle, bike or tank. There are so many unbalances on what is supposed to be "balanced" matches. The grind on this is so extensive, relentless changes on the Main Menu in order to "beautify" it, long time limits to get into matches, community tends to bias mostly germans (from what ive noticed in all the time if played), etc. One big negative impact is the lack of maps. Over the span of these 2 years that i've played there has only been two maps that were new, TWO YEARS FOR TWO MAPS?! As for trying to implement WW2 historical accuracy, some of the weapons are solid although there has been a lot of calls for "OP" guns that need a NERF (every game will have this). The tanks are positive on my list, but the planes were slow as it was but now they are SLOW, REALLY DANG SLOW. Honestly just dont bother with this game. Save your time for other games that have better game mechanics and you can actually call a game. Still in BETA...SMFH......

The current main probelms with Heroes&Generals is the broken squad system and matchmaking, Oh yeah and the ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥t grind. Seriously though it takes a MINUMUM of 7 hours of gameplay to unlock ONE tree of items 7 for SMG's 7 for tanks, 7 for rifles etc...

Fixing the memory leak on DX12 (which they introduced a couple of weeks ago btw) and reintroducing it would make the graphics way more bearable than the bleak colourless goo that they are now, while also helping with framerate issues that users have been experiencing.

If Reto actually worked on fixing these flaws (among others) of the game that they community has been begging them to do for so long instead of just ignoring them and instead focusing on introducing new content update after update this game wouldn't be getting the well deserved backlash that it's getting.

Silencing, censoring and banning people on the forums that criticize the game and the choices that its developers made won't do ♥♥♥♥, adress the problems and solve them, and make this game amongst the most fun WW2 games that exist. (Which it does by the way have the potential to be.)

As of now i absolutely cannot recommend this game for any new player, you're gonna have to grind and grind and grind, all that while getting killed over and over again because of a broken system that allows veteran players to fight against newbies.

H&G has potential especially with the strategy (aka general part) of the game which is the reason i have spent this many hours into it. All it needs is the developers of the game to get their heads out of their asses and instead start listening to the problems of the game that make it really hard for newcomers and everyone else overall.

All the flaws aside this game does have potential to be a blast, especially with friends, it gives opportunity for great teamplay and can have certain hilarious and memorable moments. Sadly though the currently broken mathmaking, squad system and overall balance of the game makes that so much harder to experience and so much less worth it.

So as of now in it's current state i'd recommend that you stay away from this game, well unless you're really into rage simulators.
