What the developers have to say:

Why Early Access?

“When we started developing Heroes & Generals it was with the intention of creating a game for the gamers as much as for ourselves. The games we have been creating in the past (back in the IO Interactive days) have all been shrouded in secrecy until they were released and therefore always carried a number of things that players did not like but we were unable to change. Because it is the players that in the end plays the game we think they should have greater influence on the development.

Since the very early days of the project in 2011 (pre-alpha stage), we invited players in to play the game and have involved our community in the making of Heroes & Generals and listened to the feedback from them. So it's a natural extension of the way we develop Heroes & Generals, to also include the Steam Community, by going Early Access.”

Approximately how long will this game be in Early Access?

“We're approaching the end of our Open Beta/Early Access phase, but it's still too soon for us to put a date on when we'll launch.”

How is the full version planned to differ from the Early Access version?

“We're still tweaking, fixing bugs and adding new features to Heroes & Generals, and even though we feel that the game is now fun and quite stable, we still wish to get all things 'just right' before we call it 'launched'.

We do not plan to do a full server reset when the game launches.”

What is the current state of the Early Access version?

“We're in the end of our Open Beta phase, preparing for launch.”

Will the game be priced differently during and after Early Access?

“Heroes & Generals is Free2Play. We wish to create a healthy, solid and well-balanced game and community, where you can get a great experience playing the game, no matter how much money you spend! There is already an in-game economy in place, where you earn in-game credits and warfunds for being active in the game, by playing FPS-missions and/or handling Assault Teams.

You can also buy gold, which you can use to buy practically everything, usually it give you the option of buying stuff ‘early’, so you don’t need to grind that much. We also offer a Veteran Membership to accommodate wishes of having an all-inclusive package, where you earn xp, ribbon-xp, in-game credits and warfunds at an increased rate etc.

Prices are regularly being tweaked now in Open Beta/Early Access and we will most likely still tweak prices at and after launch.”

How are you planning on involving the Community in your development process?

“We encourage the players to participate in discussions in our forum: http://forum.heroesandgenerals.com/

When you write feedback about the game, remember to try and explain your reasons. Constructive criticism will help us build a better game for you.”

German Blitz on the move with Everhart – Update!

After we showed you the Soviet GAZ-AAA Cargo and the American CCKW Truck, it is time to present you with the German Blitz truck!

The Blitz truck fits 9 soldiers, two supply crates and a driver – enough space for three German standard Infantry Squads on the move to the frontline!
Keep a Recon Auxiliary Seat to scout and warn you about or eliminate all the threats you could meet on the road.

It unlocks at Chauffeur Ribbon Rank 2 and is available for Infantry soldiers. Just like the other two trucks it works as a mobile deploy vehicle, BUT while cheaper to buy and faster to unlock than the halftracks, it is not armored so it requires a bit of skill to place it where it is both useful for teammates, but also a bit protected from enemy fire!

Historical Facts
The name Blitz, which translates to lightning was found in a prize competition and was first used for this truck in 1930.
During the war about 130,0002.5 ton Blitz Trucks were built until 1944 in Brandenburg. On August 6th 1944 the Brandenburger factory was destroyed in an RAF Air Raid, after which the constructed was moved to the Mannheimer rival plant by order of Minister of Armaments Albert Speer.
The construction of different Blitz models continued until 1975.

New Soviet camouflage in Everhart update

In the upcoming ‘Everhart – Knights of the road’ update we are introducing new camouflage uniform options for the Soviet faction.

The new camouflage uniforms are called Palma Amoeba and come in the variants Fall, Mountain and Summer. The uniforms are available for Infantry, Recon and Paratrooper.

Palma Amoeba is based on a short-lived camouflage design that emerged toward the end of World War II. The design is an effective combination of the stair step pattern with the original amoeba pattern.

Have a look below at the new options for the Soviet soldiers!

New Fall Uniforms

New Summer Uniforms

Heroes & Generals is a very good tactical FPS set in WW2 if you don't mind the grinding and the camping that some players choose to do.In general you'll find a nice community that will not stop giving you advices and tips that you did not know even when you're a general.About the gold(the premium currency in-game) Reto-Moto are not greedy at all like I've seen people say.I think the prices are fair for an early acces game because they need that money to make the game better and to bring us even better stuff into the game.In my opinion the game gets a 9 out of 10 for the gameplay(not giving it 10 because the hackers but reto are working hard to fix this but one they do the gameplay won't have any problems)

Don't recommend this game for any new players, if you are an old player returning the game will be more enjoyable but a new player will have little to no fun playing this game. The grind to achieve new weapons is far too difficult unless you are planning to invest around 6 to 9 months into grinding for them. Also don't bother playing any faction except USA or GER because the soviet faction is currently very underwhelming compared to the other two, especially when it comes to weapon selection. Unfortunately because the developers are losing money they make buying gold a must if you want to unlock anything sooner than the 6-9 months it takes to grind, and the prices for gold have actually been greatly increased so if you are an old player you might find that annoying. The developers do their best to satisfy specific sections of the community but often add builds with completely unnecessary items/skins, which is usually what causes people to quit the game after a couple of these pretty much useless builds are added. Most of the competition in game has moved on to better games so if you are looking for a competitive scene in this game you most likely won't find one, as most of the clans are casual players as well. Reto.moto also employs players to manage their forums as well as their wikipedia and does not compensate them in anyway, which means these players take little interest in maintaining the things they are assigned, one of the original creators of the wikipedia for hng was actually banned from the game for requesting compensation. He is now a warthunder player. The people they assign to manage their forums have little to zero knowledge of the game and are actually some of the worst players in the game, known for getting trolled on the forums for their lack of skill or even understanding of the game, leading to a general feeling of dislike from the rest of the community. They have instituted multiple programs to keep the community involved but often fail to maintain them and ultimately they themselves fail leading to even more angst and genuine unsatisfaction from the community. An example of this would be the bug hunter program they have instituted, which is something most players are unaware of because those working as bug hunters have stopped playing the game themselves. Reto doesn't only neglect their community however, they also neglect their anti cheat systems. Just recently a player who had been playing the game for the past two years was banned for cheating, it's more than likely this player had been cheating for at least a year in the game, so if your looking for a game where you can get away with cheating, this might be for you. The in game maps have also not changed since I began playing the game, leaving you to play the same 5-6 maps over and over again, not to mention the multiple complaints about in game shader/color effects, which there is plenty evidence of on the forums for anyone thinking about playing the game. All in all this is a game you should not take seriously if you are planning to play it, treat it like a free to play game and you will most likely be content, don't expect the type of gameplay you would see in csgo or other games where there is incentives to do better, because while you may be trying your hard its a good bet the rest of your teammates are just messing around. Also a disclaimer: if reto ever offers performance upgrades that aren't directly associated with the game itself or in a build/patch do not ever make changes to your computer or game, their adventure into dx12 failed miserably and made it unplayable for some people for several days before they finally reverted back to their original dx format with a lame statement on their front page about how they could not foresee problems like the ones experienced, even though they tested it "extensively" before making the change. You also might want to avoid playing solo, because 90% of the time as stated above you have teammates who are only there to mess around, albeit this is not their fault because in the full 6-7 years this game has been in BETA (it's still in beta), reto has yet to add a tutorial on how to play the fps or the RTs part of the game, so try to join a clan right away otherwise you are Sol when it comes to learning the game. All in all if your looking for a ww2 shooter this is not the game for you, the ww2 part of the game has become very loose and unrealistic, the tank combat is very boring and requires just as much grind as the rest of the infantry unlocks, the air combat is very dull and most of the time the pilots are shot out of the cockpit rather than having to shoot down the actual aircraft, not to mention the snail progress that the reto staff works at, which is even further infuriating when you see reto staff hanging out in twitch channels during regular working hours and giving sarcastic answers to questions from players as if they are electronic arts or Microsoft and don't have to pander to their lowly customers. You may have noticed I didn't say anything positive really about this game, thats because when I first started playing, almost 3 years ago now, it was a completely different game balanced more toward player preference and less toward profit for reto, unfortunately all businesses have to make money and when you are losing money you have to make business decisions and for reto one of those decisions was to listen less to the player base and add more fluff to the game in order to try and make profit. A sound business decision that lot of gaming companies make. However it must not have worked because one year later they are still adding fluff, maybe could have spent that the advertising for he game but it's too late now. I say older players will enjoy the game because there are some new features and if you are familiar with older versions of the game learning them and using them gives you a reason to rediscover the game, but beyond that I can't recommend the game to anyone else, not even my friends because they are millennials with much higher expectations for gaming than this game produces.

Let me first say that i had a really good time playing for the past 2 years until the new squad update,
Before the squad update i was able to get into a battle within 1 minute.
after squad it took me sometimes over an hour, my average was about 15 minutes before i could get into a battle.
and once i finally did into a battle and spawned in i would be killed by a tank or recon camping the post.
after 10 of trying to spot the sniper and dying 7 more times by the same person. i finally killed him
THEN WOULD BE KILLED AGAIN BY THE SAME GUY MOMENTS LATER AND HIM SOMEHOW SHOOTING AT ME FROM BEHIND 3 BUILDINGS!!!!!

I also hate the fact that the devs hate their community. i have been reading many other reviews about people saying they have been banned after 20 kills 1 death matches. I had been in a match like that just the day before this review this was also when i was banned for "cheating and hacking". Its not my fault that they make their Tiger King tanks O.P.!

The devs have also not been smart enough to realize, "HEY! i need to fix my game and put in a anti-hack systems and not a bunch of useless camo!" they make all these updates where they come out with maybe 1 gun and a car or tank for 1 faction then 50 things of more useless camo.

Over all i give this game 0/10
P.S. this game is also full of hackers.

Ok, after putting a LOT of time and money into it:

I got perma banned on twitch for asking a simple question, without expressing my honest feeling about the newest "update", which is basically another deep downgrade after "Adams".

So I've still got a year of veterancy around, they treat the people that buy gold to support them like sh!t - because the people are never right and reto can't never ever be wrong.

I've bought the veterancy because I had faith that they won't cluster♥♥♥♥ the game and yet, they can dig even deeper.

Here's a quick overview of the top 5 downgrades:

  1. First Rommel, adding INSANE deployment queues for everyone.

  2. Then they added pooled resources, making 18 tanks vs 18 fighters possible - ohh keeeh... (fyi that's still possible via matchmaker)

  3. Somewhere along the way they screwed up the shaders...

  4. Adams: Adding some weird as hell cone fire - ok maybe, but:
adding autoaim for idiots that cannot guess where a gun will shoot at while hipfiring when all the bullets HAVE TO leave the barrel; that stuff even introduced a ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ of WTF - Headshot?! "bugs".

  5. And now... Squad 2.whatever:
    Could have been so easy, remove the class restriction on the squads add a "commo rose", so you can mix and command 'em like in Battlefield;
but nope, they had to do it the "right" way again - I'm cutting it short:
    • removed the join friend functionality
    • removed ability to pick a battle (can't even join your own ATs without a squad)
    • making squads is now tied to ribbon progress - which is tied to a single soldier instead of a faction
    • added horrific fun with the matchmaker (wooohooo we need moar ping)

Final verdict: don't expect anything but letdowns all the way; 6 months ago, I'd have recommended the game to everyone, but now... forget it - leave the devs to their own ignorance.

Peace.

Click "To Battle!"
Wait 30 sec to customize your squad...
Wait another 30 sec to load into the battle...
Wait for 3 team members to fall before you can spawn...
2 minutes later you can finally spawn into the game...
Instantly die after 2 seconds because your spawn is already being camped by enemy tanks and snipers at this point...
Wait again for 3 team members to fall...

You have just experienced the new D-Update... *Slow Clap*

Waiting times have increased dramatically in the D-Update and the game flow has come to a grinding halt. Part of that is due to the squad system which now commonly matches 21 vs 18 players in battles and forces you to wait for 3 team members to fall every time you die...

On top of that you mostly get thrown into matches which were abandoned by their previous players because they are already over or very onesided. The option to choose your own battles is no longer possible if you queue on your own or have no assault teams deployed. You hardly ever get to actually play a match from start to finish. Instead you now have to constantly act as a filler to play the remaining 5 minutes in a lost match that everyone has already given up on.

To crown it all add to the already existing annoying fog and the horrible lighting the new "improved" UI which blocks half your screen with giant A1, B2, C4 markers that cannot be turned off unless you individually aim down the sight while pointing at every single marker...

What the hell happened to this game I used to love...

EDIT:
June 15th "Optimization" Patch:
- FPS decreased again instead of increased (same as the last "optimization" patch)
- Game looks blurry now as if you forgot to wear your glasses
- Constant stutters are back that some users experienced when the D-Update was first released
- Game crashes every 5 minutes

Time to uninstall this piece of garbage and wait for Battlefield 1

Bye

The squad update limits this game severely. It removes the ability to play tanker, pilot, paratrooper, recon, and infantry in the same battle. It actually removes the ability to switch between different characters of the same class if you are squad leader without giving everyone a large xp penelty. Ping has gotten worse by far. The generals side of the map has gotten impossible to use intelligently as surrounding the enemy or deploying troops tactically has no reward and in fact regardless of how you use them you are punished by a morale system.

Squad system is broken. I spent an entire map caping and defending a forward point. Spawning allies in my jeep and ratatatting from the gunner seat. Then about 40 seconds before victory, 'YOUR SQUAD LEADER HAS REMOVED YOU FROM THE SQUAD" and my game was over.

That's after waiting 9 minutes for a server.

I enjoy the vehicles and combat. The microtransactions and poorly implimented mechanics are causing me to uninstall.
This game gives you a hint of really fun gameplay, but ruins it with money and frustration.

This game had so much potential but the developers are just digging a deeper hole for it. It all started with the nerf on the German faction simply because that's where the good players were. The grinding aspect of the game is also annoying as hell, not to mention the matchmaking component pits all playing styles and abilities in one giant cluster ♥♥♥♥. I used to enjoy it. Quite honestly. And often, I find myself trying to go back, but it's just gone way too far downhill for any hope of salvaging. Not to mention there is a well-balanced mix of trolls, deadweight noobs, and super-pro rage-mode tryhards. And the one class that needs to get rebalanced is recon. A recon and a sniper are two different types. Recons use equipment to help relay what the enemy is doing. Snipers kill people. This game has molded the two together so that recons drive around in gun motor carriages and can one-shot your leg from across the map without you seeing where they are. Really disappointing turnout of a promising game.

PLUSES:
  • Free to Play,
  • Working with Steam,
  • No premium weapons, vehicles or things like that,
  • You can set name for your gun, soldier, squad and unit,
  • Game about World War II.

MINUSES
  • Game made on java,
  • There is no such a thing like quick support ticket reply. I'm waiting more than 30 days for reply,
  • Overpowered russian nation, they should rename the game to "Losers & Russians",
  • FULL of cheaters,
  • Really bad performance optimization my PC is acting like foundry furnance,
  • Really sh*tty graphics and sounds,
  • ↑ other players are shooting to me from 250 meters, deep fog, 100 bushes and kills me and can't see them,
  • Players rage after new squad system,
  • FULL of cheaters,
  • Pay 4 Win,
  • ↑ War Battles lobbies are full with lieutenant and majors players with 0 kills and 40 deaths stats because they bought ready soldiers,
  • Lack of any Anti Cheat Software,
  • FULL of cheates,
  • ↑ If you type in google "heroes and generals cheats" first link with cheats software is fully working,
  • Overpowered russians weapons and vehicles just like in world of tanks, war thunder of other games,
  • ↑ PPSh-41 and 71 rounds without sign of recoil,
  • ↑ Russian bullets, tanks and planes mades from Stalinium,
  • Fractions can buy weapons other factions, eg. german soldier can buy american bazooka, and us soldier can buy panzershreck, BUT only russians can buy PTRD-41 Anti Tank Rifle, very logic and smart,
  • Lack of quick in battle cheater report, to report "bad guy" you need to send a ticket to the support and you will wait 7 days till they send you reply, and the best part is they can't even tell you if reported player was really a cheater,
  • ↑ but during the battle you can check stuff like player nemesis, favorite weapon, and others, who cares about that?
  • FULL of cheaters, did I mention that?
  • Only 18vs18 lobbies, even in Battlefield 1942 you could play on 64vs64 servers,
  • Ridiculous damage system concerning infantry, tanks and planes,
  • Unbalanced tanks battles,
  • For being an chauffeur you gain anti tank badges but not for destroying enemy tanks,
  • Overpowered badges and too easy way to get them,
  • ↑ Panzerkampfwagen V Panther is shooting every 3 seconds + add to this golden tanker badge which allows gunner shoot 20% faster,
  • FULL of cheaters, did I mention that, right?,
  • Suicide ♥♥♥♥♥♥s rushing your tank with bikes or jeeps,
  • Idiotic spawns,
  • ↑ ♥♥♥♥♥♥s are placing AT mines in the places where tanks/apcs spawns,
  • They say you can hack the game with Cheat Engine...
  • and many many more I'm just afraid I will run out of space...

Played this about a half a year to a year ago. I had great fun. Until the support team completely ♥♥♥♥ed up my experience with this game. I had a friend who had a great round one time. More than 90 kills with a fully upgraded Kar98 and say, 3-5 deaths. At that time the upgrades were pretty OP and the Kar98 was able to drop someone one shot from about 200+m away. Low and behold the server started whining and complaining about him being a hacker. When Me, my friend who got banned, and my whole group knew about this buffed AF Kar98. Somehow the support team heard about it and completely permabanned him. COMPLETELY. With absolutely no evidence other than a few screenshots of the leaderboard and the word of a few whiny babies. Through plenty of effort to try and get the ban lifted it was met with nothing but threats of bans and wipes of our accounts. We WERE all veteran players until this happened. We said ♥♥♥♥ you and completely abandoned this game. The devs only care about the moolah. They just stole our money and kicked us to the curb. Shows how much these guys really care about their community. You can really tell a lot about a company by the way the treat their players.
