What the developers have to say:

Why Early Access?

“When we started developing Heroes & Generals it was with the intention of creating a game for the gamers as much as for ourselves. The games we have been creating in the past (back in the IO Interactive days) have all been shrouded in secrecy until they were released and therefore always carried a number of things that players did not like but we were unable to change. Because it is the players that in the end plays the game we think they should have greater influence on the development.

Since the very early days of the project in 2011 (pre-alpha stage), we invited players in to play the game and have involved our community in the making of Heroes & Generals and listened to the feedback from them. So it's a natural extension of the way we develop Heroes & Generals, to also include the Steam Community, by going Early Access.”

Approximately how long will this game be in Early Access?

“We're approaching the end of our Open Beta/Early Access phase, but it's still too soon for us to put a date on when we'll launch.”

How is the full version planned to differ from the Early Access version?

“We're still tweaking, fixing bugs and adding new features to Heroes & Generals, and even though we feel that the game is now fun and quite stable, we still wish to get all things 'just right' before we call it 'launched'.

We do not plan to do a full server reset when the game launches.”

What is the current state of the Early Access version?

“We're in the end of our Open Beta phase, preparing for launch.”

Will the game be priced differently during and after Early Access?

“Heroes & Generals is Free2Play. We wish to create a healthy, solid and well-balanced game and community, where you can get a great experience playing the game, no matter how much money you spend! There is already an in-game economy in place, where you earn in-game credits and warfunds for being active in the game, by playing FPS-missions and/or handling Assault Teams.

You can also buy gold, which you can use to buy practically everything, usually it give you the option of buying stuff ‘early’, so you don’t need to grind that much. We also offer a Veteran Membership to accommodate wishes of having an all-inclusive package, where you earn xp, ribbon-xp, in-game credits and warfunds at an increased rate etc.

Prices are regularly being tweaked now in Open Beta/Early Access and we will most likely still tweak prices at and after launch.”

How are you planning on involving the Community in your development process?

“We encourage the players to participate in discussions in our forum: http://forum.heroesandgenerals.com/

When you write feedback about the game, remember to try and explain your reasons. Constructive criticism will help us build a better game for you.”

Churchill Update Brings Americans Johnson LMG

In the upcoming Churchill update (named after the British soldier Jack Churchill) we are introducing a new weapon, the Johnson LMG for the American faction.

The weapon requires 6 equipment points and is available for US Infantry & Paratroopers!

US Infantry soldiers can unlock it on the LMG Assault Ribbon at Rank 12 as the 2nd Light machine gun!
It unlocks for US Paratroopers on the Parachute Ribbon at Rank 9.

In the factory configuration it has a rate of fire of 600 rpm and a reload time of 4.3 seconds and the magazine holds 20 rounds. Upgrades are available once you unlock them by progressing on the Johnson LMG Specialist Ribbon.

How does this great new weapon look?

Historical information

The Johnson LMG was designed by a Boston lawyer, and Marine Corps Reserve, named Melvin Johnson Jr. His goal was to build a more effective weapon than the M1 Garand AND a light machine gun using as many interchangeable parts as possible. Having a side-mounted magazine it looks a lot like the German Fallschirmjägergewehr 42 and they have other similarities in the inner workings. But it seems these are pure coincidence as both weapons were designed to try and solve the same problems. The weapon was primarily used by Special Forces and the famous "Devil's Brigade" praised it for its performance in battle.

ok, i'll start off with what the populour complaints are. the most obvious complaint there is is, unbalanced. Which isn't true. the community, is truly toxic.if you have a gun that they dont, "it's OP and needs a nerf" the game is largly a grind, but is not pay to win. sure, you can throw money at the screen until you have everything, but a good player with a standard M1 will end you. this game is nearly fully skill based. the germans have an apparent advantage when it comes to armour, but that is to be expected with the Panzer tanks. the weapons are balanced, regardless to what people say. A factory standard rifle will still kill in 2/3 shots. if you aim correctly a headshot will end it.

This game is a freaking sinonym of disbalance. I'm playing ussr, and it is close to impossible. All maps are total disbalance. If enemy takes some cp, there's no chance of winning. German and US weapons deal far more damage, ussr tanks... well... I've never seen em winning. This game is a total pain.

I am currently not recomending this game. Its gotten to the point that 8/10 times I try to play I end up getting extremely frustrated. There are a few rare games that get really heated up and fun to play that last over 30 minutes to an hour long. Faction weapons feel horribly unbalanced. I recently became a tanker with a German and found out that the default tank is SUPER UNBALANCED compared to the American light tanks. You fire infantry-grade machine guns at enemy Chaffees that two shot you. You'd have to play with another guy if you ever want to upgrade your tank (so that you can earn credits to buy a medium tank). This is just one of the many painstaking grinds that this game has to offer. I won't even begin with my struggle to become Recon... The only reason I have 152 hours right now is that my friend and I have a fun time playing it together.

Playing this game with a friend will make it fun and toleratable. For example: He has a heavy tank and I use my recon class to go spot enemy vehicles for him as I implement Viet Cong Tactics to keep enemy units from reaching our cap point. We also have fun riding around in the Recon's Anti-Personal Vehicle (which I still don't understand why THE RECON CLASS IS ALLOWED TO HAVE). We play it every now and then for ***** and giggles until one of us finally gets tired of being ♥♥♥♥♥ by all the automatic weapons that the other two factions get.

There are three factions: Germany, Soviets, and the Americans. Germany I feel has horribly under powered weapons *cough* machinepistol 34 *cough* (does less damage than my c36 pistol :/ ) and I find myself having to pick up enemy weapons such as the AUTOMATIC CARBINES THAT AMERICA AND SOVIET RUSSIA DID NOT HAVE. The PTRD for the Soviets has got to be the icing on the cake because it can two shot my Anti-Personel Vehicle (skdftzz 222) which really doesn't seem right. The Russian APV is armored to the teeth but only has machine guns on it (which I believe is a good balance decision on Reto's part and I wish that they could implement that kind of balancing alot more often). All of these vehicles, weapons, attachments, ammunition all cost ingame credits (or a little-bit of micro-transaction) to purchase and maintain.

The final part of this game that both breaks it and makes it are the devs themselves. Reto-Moto is a development company that I believe is worse than EA. That has to atleast say something coming from a player who has witnessed this game since 2015 when I watched Frankie play it. Those were the days that they had actually envisioned great ideas and a train of development for that game that has such beautiful potential that is currently being hacked and slashed by a development team that censors more criticism than Nazi Germany in 1942. They repeatedly censor contrusctive feedback from the community, update the game with now useless updates (from the trailer which, of this review, features a new MG for the Americans and a nice nifty pistol for the German infantry to kill themselves with. I honestly have not had enough of that Johnson machine gun. That is a whole different topic that the community would give entire MLA formatted essays about just like the previously mentioned PTRD, auto-carbines, drunk sway motion held iron sights, spawn farming, etc. This game has multiple flaws that Reto-Moto has refused to listen about or fix and the majority of their community is outraged by the fact that the development of this game is coming to lazy standstill with hold off's like a new gun here and there or new camo or maybe a vehicle or two... It's sad to see a great game like this wasted by developers who show us that they're giving up on their game and milking it for whatever pennies it's worth. Don't let Reto-Moto set an example for Indie Devs. Don't waste money on Reto-Moto. Let Reto-Moto die.

P.S.
For sources about my "claims" above with unbalanced weapons/vehicles, spawn camping, community outrage/censorship and anything else can easily be looked up with simple google searches as other players have multiple videos, screenshots, and treads on Reddit that describe each topic with greater detail because these are just my personal experiances with the game. The game is fun with friends but, I highly recommend that you do not financially support this game in any way and just play it for fun with your friends as it was meant to be.

Probably the best steam free to play game, this thing can be huge if developers play their cards right in my opionion.
The game is really fun to play for all. The grinding can seem long, but that is only if you do not know what you really want to grind for. If you for example are willing to become a tanker before you installed a game, I can guarantee you, you will be in a tank within a few days during which you will acclimate to the game and the way it is played, maybe make few friends in the making. On the other hand if you are a sniper and sniping is your thing, I have to disappoint you, before you will get your hands on a really powerfull scope you will have to earn it first! Ha! but with a little skill you will even have fun ''grinding'' it.

People ofter forget that this is RETO not EA. So support this game if you like it, give it a chance. In my opinion it is hard for developers to please everyone with the budget that they can realistically generate at the moment. So for the current model of the game and with all its flaws - just the pure WW2 FPS mixed with Strategy, potentially makes it one of the best games that could be ever created. At the beginning(first couple hours, I disliked it,because I felt powerless against veterans, but skill always wins.(in my case FPS usually :/ )
All in all, just give it a go. The effort and hard work really feels rewarded. Those hours you put in never come without a reward. You will always receive a new badge, unlock a new item which you can purchase for the credits you have earned.
For a free to play game I must give 7/10, but only because of the current game optimisation. If that would be fixed it is a sure 11/10.

But the game feels way too balanced between the German Faction and the U.S Faction.
Germany should be more OP than U.S Faction.

There are many negative reviews for this game already, so i will go a bit personal, leaving the facts to other people.

I played this game, longer than the steam time here. I started playing this game, when you had just US vs. Germany. And when tanks had just 4 categories, no tiers in each category. When both faction had different starting weapons and faction bound AT weapons. Ah yes, the unfair battles between the US and Germany. Sadly, US still have too much good stuff while Germany got too much nerfed, i mean, the US gets a third LMG while the Germans get a...third pistol. No joke. And the Soviets are lacking in many areas, tanks are few and not great, their weapons needs love and overall shortage of stuff. And the game have still only one plane for the pilots of each faction, imbalancing it more as each faction plane have different problems while the soviet plane Yak-9 is just too good, even more when you consider, that all planes have the same damn engine.

The handling of game mechanics is a joke with the Dev Team, they don't listen to the community and are not giving answers in their own forum. They managed much, but the problem is, that are too many designers in the team, not programmers. Which explains some weird hitboxes on some tanks and the sideskirts of the Pz4 are bugged, causing self destruction by obstacles, look it up on Youtube if you don't believe me. Spawning is another problem like the team balancing, just cruel almost.

The devs are changing gold/credit prices after their own tastes, without notes in their patches! Don't invest money in it, the devs must start working for it, if they want it. I don't recommend this from my heart. I loved this game once, but this love is long gone, since the broken promises of Squad 2.0 and Armor 2.0 will never come.

This game has a place between reccomending and not recommending for me.

Ill start by saying that the game is fun, the feeling of holding down a church building as the last man alive agasint an entire team and going on a huge killing spree cannot be replaced by any other game.

As far as WWII games go i always will belive that Heroes and generals stands at the top of others due to its ambitious ideas. Having an Air battle being fought above you as you pummel enemy tanks with your panther from cover creates a sense of real involvement with the war.

If your looking for a fun WWII shooter that intergrates both infantry, armor and air then look no further, this game will suffice your needs However this is where i come to the negatives. And to cut it down to short, the worst thing about the game is also the best thing. Its too ambitious

From a small team of developers this game is no AAA title. The base of the game is huge and has much content that could be added upon. Due to the idea of the game being so huge, content for specific playstyles comes very slowly. Those who choose to only play aircraft have had the same aircraft form the very beginning of the game which can become stale and boring.

However this is not at the fault of the developers (at least now) i do beleive they produce content as fast as possible, but the fact that the game is buillt off such a crazy idea means that content will come very slowly, and this slow content production can hinder the game.

TLDR: In conclusion you should try this game for yourself, but dont just try it for an hour, give it a week. The more you progress and play the more gear you will unlock and begin to enjoy. However if you wish to stay with the game and wait for new content you may wish to go easy, because you shouldnt expect anything quickly.

(sorry for my terrible grammar and spelling it's 1am)

First thing off, don't let the preview screenshots fool you into believing that game actually looks like that. Those screenshots are graphically enhanced... meaning the graphics in the game looks nothing like them.

I started playing this game a year ago, in April of 2015. I have had 730 hours in the game. I have written 2 previous reviews for this game. The first one was a negative one that I wrote after playing the game for 2 months, and spent 200 hours on it. The second review was a positive one after playing the game for 5 months and having spent 400 on it.

Now this is my third review of this game, and I am sad to have to change my overwhelming positive review to a negative one. This game has been slowly going down hill for the past 6 months/updates (since they have an update every month).

Though most of negative stuff I have to say comes from the update 4 months ago (the Adam's Build).

The main problem with this game has always been how the developers at Reto decide to "balance" things. The problem is so obvious to everyone on the forums except Reto to the point that we all joke about it. We call it "Reto Logic™".

The problem with "Reto Logic™" is that they make the most absurd and silly excuses and reasons to do the most crude, unpolished, illogical methods of attempting to balance the game.

For instance, tank drivers can't initiate a manual reload for their turret mounted coaxial machines guns, or autocannons if you have a Panzer II tank. Reto claims that this is done for game balance... but meanwhile all other vehicles' support machine guns can be reloaded at any given time... Even the support gunner machine gun on a tank can be reloaded... So instead of doing something more logical for the sake of balance like giving the tank driver a slower reload, they just completely disable the ability to reload at all... and the only way for you to reload is by wasting all your ammo in your current clip which not only gives away your position, but wastes extra time.

Another example is the American M1919 .30 Browning Machine Gun. Most players complain that the rangefinder (iron sight) on the gun is way to optically obstructive for the gun to be used effectively, and ask for it to be flipped down. Reto says no, tells us that the rangefinder blocking most of your screen is there for balance. So instead of balancing the gun statistically, they decide to basically blind the user instead.

Another example of "Reto Logic™", is instead of simply tweaking stats accordingly they basically decided in the past couple of months just to make every gun unusable. For instance they have been adding muzzle residue clouds to all automatic guns... this wouldn't be a problem at all if they were simply just small highly transparent aesthetic animations.... but no they are large, densely dark residue clouds that are equivalent to a black powder musket discharges that is enough to blind the user.

Not only did they add that. They added a conefire system. Now you may think that conefire means weapon or bullet spread... but no... it doesn't. Conefire is this stupid massive RNG weapon sway, that makes it look like your character's arm is made out of jello... where your character is constantly just moving his arms around in a large drunk wide random circular motion that prevents you from ever getting an accurate precise shot.

So this game went from a good skill based FPS game, to a drunk blind pray and spray RNG simulator all in one update.

And if that wasn't bad enough... The game has extremely poor lighting and sun glare effect. Not to mention black hole shadows.

Where the majority of the game's graphics has this dark grey filter over it which Reto said they added because of "Pixel Hunters", where people use to be able to see enemy soldiers so far off to the distance... like 200 meters away where they appeared to be only a few pixels, and still managed to spot and kill them. So after adding this terrible grey soup filter to the game... most players a lot of times can't even see enemy soldiers at 10 or 20 meters in front of them.

Then add that on with the black hole shadows... where entire bright green, or whitish grey tanks can become almost invisible in plain sight when sitting in the shadows.

Then lets not forget the sun glare... the sun glare is unnaturally bright, and is static. It doesn't dynamically change intensity or shape at different viewing angles. Even when going into a shady spot where the sun isn't shinning on your character, you still get sun glare no matter what. Even if you're in a building with solid walls where the sun doesn't shine. The only time the sun glare goes away is if you have the sun at your back at an angle of somewhere between 175 to 185 degree .

Also this game for the past entire year that I have been playing, they still hasn't fixed the firing sound and animation bug. Where most of shots fired by someone else makes no sound at all and has no muzzle flash. This is extremely detrimental bug to have in an FPS game because it is literally the difference between life and death. Where someone can be standing literally 2 meters away from you, trying to shoot you in the back, and you simply won't hear at all. They might shoot 20 rounds at you before you even hear the first shot sound. Or a magically invisible enemy tank sitting in the shadows 10 meters right in front of you can be shooting its cannon, and you will never even know its there.

So in short why do I not recommend this game? Because the developers at Reto do not have any idea how to balance the game. They use the most bizarre illogical unrefined hack slashed methods to balance the game, by simply removing basic game mechanic functionality, trying to blind players in every way possible, dumbing down the gunplay mechanics to the point where your aiming ability doesn't matter at all since whether you hit or not due to the fact that your soldier holds his gun as if he is drunk and has jello for arms and its pure RNG base.

This game has a lot more problems than just what I mentioned in this review, but this is the stuff that you will encounter first thing off when you start playing the game as an infantryman.

Also if you're considering becoming a tanker in this game... just remember, the higher the tier the tank is, the more expensive it is, the more easier it is to be killed, and the more inaccurate it's coaxial machine gun is. Yeah you read that right... the more expensive and better armored a tank is... the more it sucks and easier to be killed in. Because the bigger and more armored your tank is, the slower it moves, which just makes it easier for infantrymen with sticky grenades (hand held anti-tank nukes) to run up to you and instantly vaporize you as if you're sitting in a aluminium foil toy car.

Devs are biased, favorising one faction, nerfing another, and not doing anything for the third. Every update.

Also, problems bugs are not corrected from update to update. They only add new game breaking stuff.

I unlocked everything and enjoyed playing every 3 factions, with more than 1500 hrs of play. So people cannot say I favor one side. But playing usa now feels like cheating... Playing soviet feels like a buffer faction with nothing really good (yes they got the AT rifle, but THATS IT) And playing germany will only break your heart as everything you used to like about them gets nerfed and rendered useless after a while.

I'm really sad about it, but because of the huge imbalances and recurring bugs, I cannot rec that game anymore.

Doesnt mean I would not recommand it again if the problems above are fixed, though. Yes, the game as it is is pretty much flawed, but there IS frequent updates. Who knows, we will see the upcoming builds, and I will change my opinion if things change (alot).

I really dont know what to write about Heroes and Generals,

on the one Hand it is really enjoyable to Play with some Friends/a Clan - and with this i don't mean playing Staged-Battles. On the other Hand i can and will not recommend this Game to anybody else.

Here are some Points why i can't recommend the Game:

1. Sniper Rifle is usable as Infantry, as American you can get a 2.2x T-Post Scope on it, Germans got the 4x Scope and Russian got a 3.5 Scope. As Recons you can get a 8x Scope - but with a 4x Scope you won't spend Credits to become a Recon who has less Spawmpoints in the most Rounds (Just have a look at the War-Mode. Most Games have over 500 Inf. Spawms and then 24 Sniper Spawms, cool huh?)

2. You can mod the Bolt Action Rifles to be a One-Hit-Killers (OHK) - and to prevent beeing oneshooted you need the Heavyset-Perk. Every Soldier only has 1-Perk Slot and only Premium-Members can equipt 2 Perks. In my Eyes this is a Pay2Win-Mechanism. Not a Premium-Member? Okay, get the Heavyset but dont get any other Perks like...Spraying less with a Rifle? Better Hipfire? Nooo - become a Premium Member to enjoy this. Otherwise you spawm - move 100 meters - get one shooted - repeat. Also as a Recon you want to have this No-Kill-Cam mod or you gonna move after some Kills since they are coming to hunt you down.

3. You can Unlock- and buy everything with Money e.g. the No-Kill-Cam Perk. To Level-Up this Perk you need a lot of Time or just spend 30 Euros and buy it.

4. Overall the Balance of the Game (Tanks, Planes, Weapons) is broken. I can not find any other Word for this, it's just a Fact e.g. the American APC is large as hell and the Driver can easily be killed since everything around him is opened and you just need to Spray a bit with an LMG - the German APC is smaller and the Driver is well protected.

5. Forum-Posts with a bit of criticism get nearly Instant-Deleted. (No, no, no, no, no - our Game is fine! Everything is good - see our Forums! There are mostly positiv Posts! Yes, Funcom .. uhm Reto, it is! [innuendo to Funcoms Age of Conan Forums])

6. A Lot of Vets aboned this Game. They moved on since there are other Games in a WW-Setting which are "better" then H&G e.g. Verdun (Yes, i know - this is WW1 Setting, not WW2 but let's wait for Battalion 1944 or play ARMA + WW2 Mods until then)

7. The Russian Anti-Tank Rifle is a bit Overpowered. And yes, only Russia has such Weapon, as a American or German you need to live with the Bazooka/Panzerschreck but this kind of Weapons are hard to shoot at 100m+. The Russian Anti-Tank Rifle is like a Bolt-Action-Rifle. Spot the Target - Aim - press the Mousebutton and APC's, Jeep's, Bike's are down, also works very well on Light-Tanks and some Med-Tanks. You want to do this on 300meters or 400meters? No Problem! Oh and by the way... it also works very very very well vs. PLANES! Want to kill the annoying Plane above you? Spot the Target - Aim - press Mousebutton and see the Plane falling down, yay!

8. Cheaters and Hackers. Yeah, i know.. you have such People in every Game and mostly in FPS-Games. But since the H&G-Anti-Cheat doesn't seems to work... who cares? Also SweetFX is a Banning-Reason, so why doesn't the AntiCheat event detect SweetFX? You want to use SweetFX? No Problem - just don't tell anybody you do and you will be fine. Also Soldiers are better to Spot while using SweetFX since you won't have this annoying Gray-Veil.

9. Patches and Hot-Fixes. Yes, everybody like them. They can really be a good thing, but mostly you won't find any Patch- or Hot-Fix Notes. Just live with the fact that they changed something without feeling the need to tell the Community what they did. It also seems a bit of uncoordinated, open the Game ... can not Login and the announcement is done 30-45mins. later in the Forum. Uhm, yes... that's not logical. Why not announce the Downtimes BEFORE you put the Servers down?

10. Always the same Maps. To give you a Number: 5

If you are not quenched yet then feel free to try the Game but better play as a Russian Soldier. Don't promote your Soldier to a Recon (unless you really want to drive around with the Scout-Car or want Scout-AT's for the War-Mode) and please, do not spend any Money. Before you think about spending Money have a look at some other WW-Games (Verdun, Battalion 1944, ARMA + Mods etc etc)

So, I've been playing a bit more, recently. And it has gotten better since I had last played about 6 months ago. But only marginally. This had made me want to change my negative review to positive - that's how good it had gotten. I had just unlocked the Sherman (Worst thing about it - HE and APCR [APCR is a NECESSITY. You can not play tanks without it.] took a while to unlock) and was having a bit of fun with it. As I was writing a positive review, I decided I should see how it is with a new character. So I decided to pull a raw recruit for Germany, and I'll say how fun THAT was...

So I started off doing the tutorial for the quick level and First Blood badge (As I had done when I was actually first starting off). I then hopped into a match and it was decent. Nothing amazing. The next match wasn't so good. The third match was abhorrent. I came up against PPShs, PPSs, and PPDs with nothing more than a stock Gewher 43. I was mowed down in seconds flat in close range, and in medium or long range I couldn't hit anything (Mostly due to not having the ability to hold my breath). I had just gotten grenades, so that was alright, but my Gewher could do nothing to combat the automatic SMGs, Rifles, and Machine Guns that almost every enemy had. And thus, I decided to change my review to negative.

So here are some pros and cons:

Pros:

- Looks decent, not amazing, but decent
- Very active player base

Cons:

- Everything is expensive
- You don't make much money, next to nothing when starting off
- Garbage starting gear -> Can't compete with anyone else
- Long grind between level to level
- Spawn camping is still a thing, despite devs trying to get rid of it
- Spawn protection exploits
- Airplanes can damage tanks with AP MGs, strafe with HE MGs, and wreck everything with bombs. All on the same plane.
- Infantry have a meriad of ways to destroy tanks
- Back cappers are ♥♥♥♥♥
- Para
- Excessive pandering towards long-time veteran players who basically already have everything
- Grind is essentially the pay wall. Pay up now, or face the grind!

Yes, I mostly pull tanks.

Honest Review (Early Access Review. This is not a final review)
- Good Graphics
- Developed by lesser known company (good break from AAA titles)

Reasons NOT to play this game

Gameplay
- Campers
- Tanks kill you from a mile away and there is nothing you can do
- One faction always wins
- Steep Learning Curve
- Maps are too large
- Toxic Community
- Weapons are not balanced
- Grind to unlock good weapons and then you have to pay for it (in game cash that is)
- Game offers you to buy evertying
- Yes the game is F2P. But The game de facto is P2W (Pay to win)
- Developers do not respond to community say
- Once you join a staged battle or war you'll have to wait to play with another soldier
- Once you join a faction in a war. You can only play with the soldiers on that faction

Techical
- Game runs on plugins
- The menu is slow to display data
- In game menu is primitive
- Main menu sometimes is unresponcive

Updates
- Developers shutdown servers without notice and always they say they are updating
- Takes long time for developers to update

This game is quite good in a lot of ways, unfortunately it fights tooth and nail to outweigh the good points with bad.

If you are looking for a simple drop in, kick around and get it done WW2 shooter, this is exactly the game you were looking for. Or not, because the cash and game economy are geared to ruin what is otherwise a very fun game.

Let me explain before someone comes up with the pitchforks and torches. Simply put everything in this game costs in game currency, repairs, upgrades, vehicles, the list goes on and on. Put more simply if it is in the game, you will be spending much if not all of what you earn from the in game economy on repairing it. If you go with only the most basic starter stuff, you can keep your costs down enough to actually build up a cash supply. This is because your economy rewards are based on time in match playing, not on things you actually do in match, and all your equipment and ammunition will eat into whatever you get from that at a very rapid pace. This means that unless you are spending large sums of time in match with nothing but the most basic gear you will not be buying or using any of that neat stuff you can unlock.

There is another way though. Everything, and I do mean everything, in the game can be bought for gold. As usual gold is the cash shop currency used by the devs to pay for their F2P title. Unfortunately the devs took all their cash shop and economy pages from the price gougers guide to pay to win economies. Not only can everything be paid for with gold, all the items locked behind the work of leveling and tasks for earning can be instantly unlocked with it as well. This, when combined with the extremely weak in game economy means it becomes quickly impossible to support anything but that basic starter gear, and makes the paying customers with their automatic weapons, bazookas, and Armored Personnel Carriers very obvious in every match you run into them.

Adding insult to injury, the gold itself is quite expensive compared to what you get for it.

On the whole, it is a good game, one I desperately want to like if not love, but I think not.

This game would be great of the entire thing wasn't pay to win. It seens it would have had potential if they didn't make it P2W. I suggest upcoming WW2 shootings such as Battalion 1944 or Days of War. If you're willing to blow over twenty bucks to get popular weapons used during the war, this is a good game.

well, 1st of all sorry for any errors in my english, im not from a country wich english is the main language

so, the first thing i have to say is that i do not recoment, but neither say it is a bad game, as there is no middle option i will give it a no because of the things i will list further on this review, wich there is a few

PROS

the game itself is FUN WITH FRIENDS and have that in mind, if you love ww2 games with realism, this is for you, vision itself can be hard because of shrubery and all that stuff, camo sometimes can make you 100% invisible for the whole match, the game mechanics are solid, bullets are not insta hit and will form an arc if you shoot too far, as a tanker i can say that it is rewarding to have those 1km+ fights just to see how well that works, vehicles themselves got a fair cuantity of details wich make them unique and diferent from other factions (in good and bad ways), every single faction plays diferent from the other, sometimes you will find that for example certain plane got a certain thing, as the other faction plane is totaly diferent, every single soldier that plays well can make the match a victory, this game have strong team work, a soldier that destroys a single tank can turn the fight around completely, factions have diferent guns as well, weaponry in general is interesting too, a fair bit of variety is offered to you in these 3 factions, some of them having unique guns like anti tank rifles, auto carbines, high fire rate machine guns and so on

CONS

well.... lets beggin by the start of the game itself, you have a rifle wich is very bad for the new players, nor care how skilled you think you are with semi autos, other players will aways get you with better weapons, "oh, but the matchmaker will make that not happen"... wich matchmaker? you will EVER fight high rank if not max players, with guns that are extremely overpowered, literaly giving you 0 seconds to react, that type of "point, click, kill" gun, but then you must be asking yourself how to get one of these and well.... grind, lots of grind, so much grind that you will probably say "♥♥♥♥ it" before you get to what you want, ok lets supose you are american and you want an auto carbine, wich is an extremely overpowered weapon, to get that you need to use your 1st rifle for about.... i dunno, 200 missions? victories of course, defeats are extremely bad, if you died a lot or used your gear (spawn cars, tanks, planes or just shoot a lot/throw explosives) there is a change that you will go negative in cash, repairs can be insanely high with modded weapons making it unforgivable to lose, wich comes to the tryhards, most of playes (solid 60% in USA) will be incredibly anoying when losing, spawn camp, OP weapons and so on "oh but they are just playing good" you will say that untill you fight 10 high rankers with OP guns vs your team of new players, wich comes to faction unbalance, ive played all factions so far, as a german tanker i can say "plz spot enemy armor" and it will be a rave of money to me, if you are competitive and dont like to lose go straight germany, out of 10 wars they win 9 ever, if you go usa expect a fair game, if you go rrusia expect to get destroyed, barely any experienced player there and very low population, sometimes you will find yourself you and you friend as pilots, vs 5 enemy infantry, what the ♥♥♥♥? and even worse actualy, there is so much bad stuff that i could say, i gues i should say it all but then the review would be too negative, but a last thing i can say is: remeber that horrible grind of the OP weapons? if you put cash in you can literaly have ALL THE OP GEAR in a lvl 1 character, everything unlocked, absolutely everything i mean, max lvl tanks, 100% modded weapons and so on

but then why not continue? 70% of the bad things you wont bother if you play with a friend of if you realy enjoy ww2 experience games

now about the "BETA" thing, this game still have a lot to fix, add, nerf and buff but i can tell you it does not feel like a beta anymore, probably just another eternal beta like hawken or maybe not, who knows, overall i have fun in this game, but the bad points make it a bad decision to play alone, you will have your good moments, but you should ever expect to win as a german or to get smashed by them

Okay...so you're looking for a 'better' WW2 shooter. I'm going to tell you right now this isn't it. The pictures, the 'updates', and the epic look of tanks and infantry rolling out...isn't. Imagine this instead. You spawn in randomly. Poof, out of no where. You spend the first 2 minutes of the game roaming and capping, and only then do you get to start the fire fights. Which are hardly any good anyway... You aim, you fire, you kill...blah blah--oh wait, was that your team mate? No worries, he's immune to bullets, but throw explosives at him and he dies... (Kind of lame friendly fire system if you ask me...) Hey nice K98 you got there...too bad the sight is the size of a grain of salt and you can't aim properly with it. In all seriousness though, things could be a whole ton better...

Spawn points! Horribly placed...main objectives being captured? It puts you WAY too far away for you to be a threat of ANY kind if you come up against a player who knows the spawn locations...in minor points it dosen't even let you spawn into that area to help defend. No, now you've got to spawn at the OTHER control point and take a long walk, drive and risk being blown up by a tank, plane, mine...or just sit there and try to defend that one.

Maps? The maps would be great if the same building wasn't used IN EVERY SINGLE ONE. I can understand reuseable buildings, but they don't even change them...nothing is changed. All they really do is have these model houses, slap them together across a random map, and then call it finished. Hills, cliffs, terrain...all look lumpy and edgy. While decent, it's still an eye soure.

Vehicles! Yes, you can drive...but better not run into anything. One tree and you can be rather dead...nothing happens to the tree though. Can't knock it over or anything...just sits there as a prop cover, in fact most things on the map are stationary and will never move... You can break glass...but don't count on rifle butting it. Unless you have a melee weapon you get to shoot at it to bust it open. HE shells also have very little effect on glass at times...as in one pane of glass breaks from a 50mm High Explosive Shell... Aditionaly the vehicles are very vulnerable. You get shot out or destroyed very easily by anyone with an anti-tank weapon or just a machinegun. To make things worse everyone gets their own Keep and Kubel spawns, so everyone has them...and everyone uses them for one person. To make things even more horrible the enemy will sometimes field high level tanks and your team only has low level ones...making the match one sidded and no fun for anyone...at least for me it's not very fun killing a bunch of M2A2s with a T38 impervious to their fire...

Weapons? A whole ton of them. Pistols, Rifles, Bolt-Action, SMG, LMG, Mounted MGs, Tank guns, bazookas...bombs...grenades everything! Problem again is this is player/level based, so if you get stuck with a lot of people training up their lower level characters you're screwed big time...there really is no restriction on the players or matches, so you can end up with the entire enemy team fielding oneshot rifles...hurray...(might as well just play Verdun.)

So it sounds decent, has bugs to work out, right? Why not play it? My reasoning...first of all the grind. The grind is overly huge. You have near 100 badges to fill out 12 times each, all of which getting progressively harder each time you level them...and some of them you can't even have. They are ENEMY WEAPON BADGES!...for a weapon you have to 1:steal,2:kill with,3:not die...

Secondly, I can't see anything... If you get on a dark map it's only 10 times harder to see ANY target. Houses look like big black boards at which you can't see anything infront of it. Tanks look like the giant rocks, heads look like grass blades...and so on. It's a 'Where's Waldo' every single time you play...and that's no fun. I came here to aim and shoot, not search through thousands of meters of map for ONE guy to shoot at.

Maps are huge...too huge in fact. 20% of the map is used 80% of the time, while the other 80% of the map is used for flankers to go ANYWHERE THEY WANT...including straight to your spawn area...and there are a lot of flankers... They flank as infantry, tanks, snipers, anti-tank...anything...and it's not at all fun to be having to watch your back every single moment like TF2...except the spy has a bloody bazooka up your ♥♥♥ and waiting for you to turn around.

The biggest disapointment though is the updates...every single update I have witnessed MAYBE changes how the game works in a tiny way...such as them removing a slight zoom when aiming iron sights to help you see what you may be aiming at, and fixing hit detection...but they haven't done a whole lot of that... Take the most resent one. Weapons weapons weapons!, the one before that? Weapons weapons weapons! Camo skins, vehicles...they're nice but they still won't take on the big projects, such as making the game play better. I'm tired of spawning into maps knowing that I can not save my main objective because it is just too far away... I'm sick of never being able to see that one man in the shadows shooting at me, but I can't fire back...because I have no idea where he is. I'm ferious at being sent into matches which end within minutes because they just slap you in there without any consideration on how the map is going. There is no balence of power durring matches, there is hardly any gameplay in the stratagy part of the game, and very little has been done to improve mechanics beyond their functional status.

As with most games, the idea is there...the base is there...the community is there, but there are very little actions being taken place to suport the large game these davs have gone for. They're not experienced enough, nor have the staff to do major updates and do more then release two weapons at a time. I apriciate their ambision and courage, but at some point you need to face facts, and the fact of this game is it will be years before it'll get to where ever the devs/community want the game. As with it's genre, it's mixed and exceeding at nothing. If the devs don't figure out where they want to take this game, then it'll sadly in the forseeable future crash and burn.

This game is constantly evolving; some addition good, some bad. There are a lot of people who don't like it, and I get it. Ive got 350 hours in the game, and when I ever have a large streak of kills, I could understand the anger from my victims. 2 years ago, the game was not like this. Literaly everyone was at the same level, so grinding was a piece of cake. As time passed, more and more people got better weapons, and that was that. Then a surge of people joined, and once they reached level 5, they were put into games with experience players, (such as I) all with one shot rifles up to an insane range. Guilty as charged. And it does not stop at the rifles. Even pistols can be upgraded to be a 3 shot kill at 50m. Also guilty as charged. So anyone who says the game is "Pay to Win", is partialy right. But it was not always that way. I had my friends play with me, and they were very angry at how the starting weapons are absolute garbage, and that they were dying too easily. The game has so much potential, but it is really only fun for people who have played for long enough.
TLDR;
The game is at this point, a pay to win.
Still fun to play though.

Before i start my review i just want to say one thing; Reto-Moto your game is in beta, this is the time to listen to your player base. Not time to go on a spree of adding a bunch of content that no one asked for. Fix your game before you start adding things you want.

This game has the potential to be one of the best WW2 FPS out there. The concept is there the physics are there (kind of) and the content is there, but all that potential is squandered by an absurdly lengthy grind and over priced items (greedy devs?).

This game is also unbalanced, but i did not include it above because i feel that is what can make it fun at times. You never know what you're going to be up against and you have to adapt to the situation, that's the element of realism. It's a strange ideology but that's what i feel.

How to improve the game:

1: Having a grind in a game is good, it what keeps people playing, but having too much of one is a bad thing because it will make people leave. So just make items a little less expensive and easier to unlock.

2: Improve the servers and performance of the game. this is not to prevalent of an issue but it's there and fixing this may entice people with lower end PCs to play your game (ie: warthunder).

3: Have more graphic options. This is more of a personal thing but we only have like three thing to change when it comes to visuals.

3: Take a break from adding content and fix the content you added. There are certain weapons/tanks/planes/cars that don't quite look/preform/feel right.

4: Fix the ugly and unresponsive menus. I know this is not just me because other people are complaining about it too. Just make it look better.

5: Pay attention to your player base. A Lot of companies are falling short of this recently and not listening to their community. This is how companies go bankrupt and lose all their fans.

And that's all she wrote. I have nothing else to say, i want to love this game, it has very thing i wanted from a game, the execution of those ideas was what ruined this game.

BUT! over all this is still in beta and i will keep hope on this game until it is complete (even though it's been about 2 years).
