Meet the Developers – Reto.Circinus

You are already devoted to the game and know every bit of it? Now we think it is time that you get to know the team a little better and this is why from now on, we will present you one of our Developers every week. With all the funny, interesting and unexpected bits about each of us.

What’s the story of the tag?
Circinus is a nickname I picked at my previous job, it stands for Compass in Latin and is also a small constellation.

What is your position and what does that mean?
Community Manager, so I do a lot of work around the Community. I primarily manage all the forum moderators, collect feedback on the official forum and the steam forums. Next to that I advise Reto.Goonstah on various Information Security matters.

What was the best thing to work on so far?
Hard to tell, I’ve had the opportunity to be a part of quite a few projects in the past and present. Recently I have started working on a project to revise our chat system, which I think is an interesting change and is fun to work at. I also find the public TeamSpeak meetings I have done very interesting (as well as exhausting) and fun to do.

What are you excited about in the future?
There’s so many things I’m looking forward to, but I am in particular excited for the update to the strategy game, which will make it a lot more challenging and interesting to play on the War Map.

What did you do before Reto?
I have worked at a different game before, Runes of Magic, a MMORPG developed by Runewaker and published by Frogster Online Gaming (and later Gameforge). I worked as a Moderator and Quality Assurance there.

What is the best thing about working at Reto?
Without a doubt, the colleagues. The working atmosphere is incredibly comfortable and everyone is very open to discussions about things.

What is your favourite thing about H&G?
What attracted me the most to H&G was the bicycles… I am Dutch after all 😉

What are your hobbies?
I love playing this game! I am also a volunteer at scouting, where I am closely involved to ensure the building and the materials remain in good shape, and I am leading girls from the age of 11-15. I also am a good singer, which I regularly proof on my clan’s teamspeak. Ask them about it 😉

Favourite Games/Games that inspired you to have a career in games?
I’d say America’s Army was one of the games which truly got me passionate about games. It was not until Runes of Magic however, that I decided that working in the gaming industry was actually an option that even turned out to be so much fun.

What’s your favourite film
I am a true film and series lover. I watch everything, from drama to war and romance to thrillers. I’d say ‘Gladiator’ is probably one of my favorite movies of all times, but there’s many more on that list and many series like Dragon Ball, How I Met Your Mother and others …

Random Fun Fact about you
When I went live on the Devstream, pretty much my entire family was watching the stream just to watch me talk about a game they don’t understand.

Five tips to improve your starter weapon

Having trouble killing your opponent with your starter weapon? Say no more and start reading these five tips to improve your starter weapon.

1. Aim for the kill

Shooting limbs or shooting heads – it makes a big difference when you want to kill your opponent as fast as possible. Bullets to arms and legs inflict the least damage to a soldier. Try aiming for the chest, it is a nice big target. If you have a steady hand, aim for the head. A bullet to the head is always a guaranteed kill.

2. Bring extra bullets to the fight

If you have a lot of targets to shoot at, you may run out of ammunition. Getting fresh ammunition can be a dangerous thing to do, so why not carry some extra ammunition with you. You can add more (or less) ammunition pouches to your weapon. Beware: Extra pouches increase equipment points required to equip the weapon.

3. Upgrade your weapon

Your starter weapon (SVT-40, M1 Garand or Gewehr 43) is already a powerful weapon, but with the use of upgrades you can enhance it to your liking. Without any upgrades it requires three shots to the chest to kill an opponent. However, there are upgrades available that allow you to make a kill with only two shots to the chest. Every upgrade has an upside and a downside.

For example the Scout II-s barrel increases the damage and range of your weapon, but decreases the precision and stability.

The downside effects are noticeable, but the benefit of the extra damage and range will make you a lot more powerful on the battlefield. Be careful though, upgrades wear out and you'll need credits or gold to repair them if you want to keep using them.

4. Improve your rate of Fire

Other upgrade options as the one described above is the rate of fire. If you find that your weapon is not firing fast enough, you can decide to for example equip the 'Field Trigger Job'. It provides extra rate of fire for your weapon, but at the cost of stability of your weapon.

5. Enhance Precision or equip a Scope

You can enhance the precision of your starter weapon by upgrading it with a Field Adjusted Sight, making it easier to hit your targets. Or you can equip a Scope – perfect if you wish to use the gun on longer distances, but not always the optimal solution for close combat.

Quick extra tips
  • The more upgrades you equip, the more expensive your repairs will be. So make sure that you feel, that the upgrades you choose improve the experience you have with the weapon.
  • You can name your weapon! The name of your weapon will be shown to the player you kill.

This is part of a series of blogposts focusing on tips and tricks for playing Heroes & Generals and getting the most out of your gaming experience. The series will feature content for both newcomers and veterans alike.

These devs are spawns of cancerous tumors which morphed into humans and then somehow learned how to press buttons on a computer and somehow made a fairly addictive video game.

This is a game I want to love, and I spend tons and tons of hours on it, but I cannot in good faith recomend it to anyone else. The stress, hairpulling, raging, broken cabinets, and verbally abused lovers are not something I can recomend to another gamer. The game itself has a solid base, but the frustrations that come with it are just to much.

Little problems that would take 30 minutes of actual work to fix come in MASSIVE patch increments which are usually MONTHS apart, meaning if you invest in the game, you continue to play the game and experience these minor frustrations that could be fixed at the flick of a switch ( ie: spawns, costs, resources for the generals tab). at this point i can't believe they ever added a third faction.

When something DOES get patched, it feels like in the process the devs trample over every inch of coding in their game in the process, and ♥♥♥♥ up all sorts of stuff. It's difficult to give specific examples of this because i'd have to remember every patch ever, but frankly, every time they patch this game I say to myself "Wow, this is bad, it really can't get any worse than this at least", and EVERY time I am wrong. Game just fully released and moved out of the "BETA" phase (which means nothing) and is on a rapid spiral downward. It is free to play, if you MUST play, DO NOT SPEND MONEY.

This game is a lot of fun if you play in the morning but once the kids show up the cheats are too common and destroys the game. In the morning the shots are realistic and in the afternoon and evening you get headshot from miles away and the enemy always knows exactly where you are all the time.

Check out youtube to see how easy it is to cheat. Too bad because the game is a lot of fun otherwise.

Heroes & Generals has great audio. That's pretty much the only thing about it that is not unbelievably bad. I'm at a loss to explain how anyone, anywhere, can recommend this game to anybody. It's horribly unbalanced, the UI is awful, the weapons cost an unreasonable amount of in-game money (and real money, come to think of it) and of course subscribers get advantages over plebs in a PvP game.

The development of the game is only terrible. It is obviously accepted that russian hackers are tolerated.
Many pictures as well as videos were made documenting this unfair playing. It is ironic that during start of game
it shows you a "anti cheat cheking software".

Russina clans like "Red alert" exists of a majority of players definitely using hacks regularly. A so well
designed game gets destroyed by stupid management.

Balancing between fractions is no more existing. axis was nerved over the hole line. russians are able to kill
vehicles with ptrd with 1 shot whil others even with tanks needs 2 shots. As you can see realism is also no
more given.

I just can recommend nor to waste time or money in this game any more!

Dreadful. Good concept, but flawed implementation in its entirety. Full of bugs and inherently unbalanced. Play noughts and crosses instead

Absolute garbage. But i actually play it since i am the type of person who will go do everything by himself and feel proud of it. Don't expect smart teammates, you will encounter a huge amount of people who have ZERO clue what they are doing and have no idea or will to actually do the objective.

The game is a somewhat pay to win but with enough time spent you can also achieve what someone has paid for but you will go through a lot of one shot rifles, a lot of hit detection ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥t not being active and a lot of unwilling participants in the war.

This game is grind grind grind and other than grinding there is small room left for you to enjoy it. Oh, and you also jump pretty high , something like in counter strike you set the gravity to 200.

Its a nice game to play very casually but if you are an elitist like me, steer clear. You will break your keyboard by the amount of ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥t you will encounter here.

♥♥♥♥ing ♥♥♥♥ teammates. Also, there is a huge amount of people who have been scammed by the developers ( check out reddit ) so , don't spend money since you wont be appreciated or treated right regardless.

They only have one plane for the airforce even though in WW2 there were so many planes developed and the jumping and moving mechanics feels like im playing heroes and generals with zero gravity. All this game needs is a fix up I honestly dont know why they opened the game when it still feels like a game still in alpha.

I have played this game for a while now and i am a light tank commander which isnt to bad just somewhat underpowered how it should be against tanks. Against infantry its quite strong which is good but the second i join as infantry you always get killed by people with fully upgraded weapons for example the m1/m2 carbine of the US is way to overpowered. I see it being used alot and i myself use a ppd-40 semi upgraded. No matter if i have the jump on him he just turns around and shoots 10 bullets in 1 second killing you because i have a slower fire rate. This is mostly done by paying for the game because progress is just painfully slow. I try my best to get a better medium tank but the last 2 unlocks i have to get are going so damm slow because you mainly fight against stronger medium- heavy tanks while we usually only have light tanks that can sometimes penetrate the medium tanks but that takes so many shots that it just doesnt matter since they 2 shot us no matter where they hit us. The game is just almost forcing you to pay for the game to have a good chance against your enemies

so 1xp for hitting someone okay. half of my total XP taken away because im not veteran (paying real money) okay just not letting me play when i try to press the "combat" button okay,

but making me grind for every little thing for hours on end and thrn trying to get me to pay to rank up. having to spend 40,000 silver to get ammo for my bazooka. having to buy ammo and repair guns NOT OKAY. shoving micro transactions dowm my throat every 2 minues NOT OKAY. making every little item cost thousands and thousands of silver or hundreds of gold ♥♥♥♥ off.

just put a real progression system in, take out the micro-transactions (which you wont because youre money hungry ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥s) and make it a full price game. without all the ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥t of buying things like guns, ammo, vehicles, ranks, perks, ribbons, medals, camos, and anything else i missed and just sell me the god damn game like a normal game

Edit: I was lookign at my play time and found out half my time has been spent in queues.

i tried to play one match today. spent 30 minutes in a queue. when i get in to the match my team is at the last objective and withing 2 minutes of me joining we win and i get sent back to the menu. this game is terrible. 0/10 dont recommend.

Just get arma 3 and the IFA3 lite mod from the workshop. its a way better experience

The game isnt as bad as people make it out to be. Yes there are hackers and yes there are kids. but there are also great players and fun to play with people. Me and my freind play this game quite a bit atm and have come across squad members who are genrally fun to play with. The gameplay isnt hair pullingly stressful unless (your a COD player and running in to combat taking 50 bullets and punching someone to death with 2 hits type of person) but strategic in running across an open feild will get you killed by a sniper.

Although its a fun game yes there is cheaters/hacker/abusers and there is also a report function that apparently only 1% of the players use. however in time this will fade out, and the cheater that you see in every other game will go.

very very very good game. it takes the chaotic nature of battlefield 1 and the war attitude of it aswell. there are still some things need adding though in my opinion. such as a miniture tank like in battlefield 1. the multiplayer aspect is amazing. in general I rate this game 9/10. You can change the character's name and the credit system is fair. you can also make multiple soldiers for variety. This is very good for those whose tastes/wants/way of playing(s) change. In the end it all boils down to the hackers though. although I have not ran into many, they are still pesks. and this is for all sides. spawning in a vehicle, unlimited ammo, spawn in a weapon, but the thing I havnt seen is invincibility. we always end up being able to get them off though. I just convince both teams to either spawn camp or just ruin his/her/it's day in general.

Heroes & Generals is a pretty solid FPS. However I do have some problems with it. The shooting mechanics feel really chunky and you don't feel as mobile as you are in other FPS games. I know that this game is suppose to be gritty and more realistic than normal FPS games but, it does feel like a pistol weighs 500lbs in this game. Another issue I have is that sometimes it can take forever to join a game, so it gets very boring during matchmaking. Now I know most of you will say "shut the hell up it's a free FPS game". If you are saying that you are right but, problems aside this is one of my favorite FPS games I have ever played.
