What the developers have to say:

Why Early Access?

“When we started developing Heroes & Generals it was with the intention of creating a game for the gamers as much as for ourselves. The games we have been creating in the past (back in the IO Interactive days) have all been shrouded in secrecy until they were released and therefore always carried a number of things that players did not like but we were unable to change. Because it is the players that in the end plays the game we think they should have greater influence on the development.

Since the very early days of the project in 2011 (pre-alpha stage), we invited players in to play the game and have involved our community in the making of Heroes & Generals and listened to the feedback from them. So it's a natural extension of the way we develop Heroes & Generals, to also include the Steam Community, by going Early Access.”

Approximately how long will this game be in Early Access?

“We're approaching the end of our Open Beta/Early Access phase, but it's still too soon for us to put a date on when we'll launch.”

How is the full version planned to differ from the Early Access version?

“We're still tweaking, fixing bugs and adding new features to Heroes & Generals, and even though we feel that the game is now fun and quite stable, we still wish to get all things 'just right' before we call it 'launched'.

We do not plan to do a full server reset when the game launches.”

What is the current state of the Early Access version?

“We're in the end of our Open Beta phase, preparing for launch.”

Will the game be priced differently during and after Early Access?

“Heroes & Generals is Free2Play. We wish to create a healthy, solid and well-balanced game and community, where you can get a great experience playing the game, no matter how much money you spend! There is already an in-game economy in place, where you earn in-game credits and warfunds for being active in the game, by playing FPS-missions and/or handling Assault Teams.

You can also buy gold, which you can use to buy practically everything, usually it give you the option of buying stuff ‘early’, so you don’t need to grind that much. We also offer a Veteran Membership to accommodate wishes of having an all-inclusive package, where you earn xp, ribbon-xp, in-game credits and warfunds at an increased rate etc.

Prices are regularly being tweaked now in Open Beta/Early Access and we will most likely still tweak prices at and after launch.”

How are you planning on involving the Community in your development process?

“We encourage the players to participate in discussions in our forum: http://forum.heroesandgenerals.com/

When you write feedback about the game, remember to try and explain your reasons. Constructive criticism will help us build a better game for you.”

Loved this game, played it to death. It really was a game worth spending money on, whether to support the devs or just to buy premium time for the rewards.
Unfortunately, I can no longer recommend this game to anyone, even if I don't like that person.
Simply, this game has gone pay to win.
I cannot adequately put to words my disappointment at how this game has gone down the pan these last few updates, but Walker was the last straw.
If Reto corrects their mistakes, they might be able to salvage something and make a good game out of it.
Until then, this game isn't worth playing or supporting.

DO NOT PAY FOR ANYTHING IN THIS GAME.

They increased ALL the prices for the vehicles, weapons, and gear. They will change the actual mechanics of said vehicles, weapons, and gear. They are only after 1 thing. Your money.

I invested a good amount of time and money only to have things change from right under my nose. I cannot support developers that drasticly change their game without some sort of community feedback.

Avoid at all costs. I highly recommend Red Orchestra 2 if you are feeling for a WWII game, and there are plenty of other F2P games that are better then this.

Cheaters every where. Admins don't care they just want your money. Admin told me that if I keep reporting cheaters that I would be banned. So I just quit the game. I hope this game fails. Fun to play, but after the response from the admins, I will never play again. So sad. Yes cheaters have been caught, but admin said they never had cheaters. So why then do they have a messege about banning over 1000 cheaters? Lame.

Ah what is to be said about Heroes & Generals. This game used to be incredible. It had so much potential, and still does. But sadly the developers have decided to RUIN this game. I mean completly WRECK this game.

All of the badges used to be so balanced in this game (The way you progress, get new weapons, perks, modifications, ect.) but for some reason, the develpoers decided they wern't making enough money and completly unbalanced the game. Unless you want to shell out hundreds and hundreds of dollars on this game to progress at a reasonable pace. If not it can take up to 200 hours plus to complete a badge (12 levels in a single badge).

As of today's most recent patch, sniper rifels in the game have been drastically changed. Although some may argue that the new patch effecting sniper rifles helps balance them to remain competitive with the other weapons, it has, in fact just made them even more ridiculous. The main benifit to using a bolt action scoped rifle in the game is the ability to outrange your opponents. But as of today's patch, everyone can mount a resanobly powerful scope on their rife (Bolt or Semi). While this seems to be a good thing -and it most ways it is- they developers lowered the base power of the conventional bolt action scope so much that it is more practial to use it without a scope at all!

Well, that's enough about scopes and rifle. Another new feature is the ability to pay your way through badges. Again this seems to be a good idea, but the way the developers have made it, it costs an astronomical price to buy in ingame currency, But costs an astonishingly minute amout in premium funds! To make things worse there was a recent patch decreasing the amount of experience earned so much that it can take HOURS just to get the first level of a badge! (It used to take minutes.) (It also depends on your skill. But for an average player like myself, it takes quite a bit of time.)

I know throughout this review I have been VERY negative towards this game. But the game does have a lot of potential to be good. It was really really good before the developers got greedy -but who knows? They might wise up 'sometime' soon.- So for those of you who are reading this review before installing this game, I would advise againts installing it at this moment. Although the game advertises "Free to Play" it might as well be 200 dollars USD. Because that's how much you would have to spend to have an enjoyable time. Just as a finial parting note, I'd just like to say, there is not need to treat this review as the gospel. Things will change in coming updates that can, and most likely will make this review out of date(At least I HOPE so). Anyway, thank you so much for reading this review. I'm truely sorry it has been so negative.
Have a great day!

Regards,

~Banana
