What the developers have to say:

Why Early Access?

“When we started developing Heroes & Generals it was with the intention of creating a game for the gamers as much as for ourselves. The games we have been creating in the past (back in the IO Interactive days) have all been shrouded in secrecy until they were released and therefore always carried a number of things that players did not like but we were unable to change. Because it is the players that in the end plays the game we think they should have greater influence on the development.

Since the very early days of the project in 2011 (pre-alpha stage), we invited players in to play the game and have involved our community in the making of Heroes & Generals and listened to the feedback from them. So it's a natural extension of the way we develop Heroes & Generals, to also include the Steam Community, by going Early Access.”

Approximately how long will this game be in Early Access?

“We're approaching the end of our Open Beta/Early Access phase, but it's still too soon for us to put a date on when we'll launch.”

How is the full version planned to differ from the Early Access version?

“We're still tweaking, fixing bugs and adding new features to Heroes & Generals, and even though we feel that the game is now fun and quite stable, we still wish to get all things 'just right' before we call it 'launched'.

We do not plan to do a full server reset when the game launches.”

What is the current state of the Early Access version?

“We're in the end of our Open Beta phase, preparing for launch.”

Will the game be priced differently during and after Early Access?

“Heroes & Generals is Free2Play. We wish to create a healthy, solid and well-balanced game and community, where you can get a great experience playing the game, no matter how much money you spend! There is already an in-game economy in place, where you earn in-game credits and warfunds for being active in the game, by playing FPS-missions and/or handling Assault Teams.

You can also buy gold, which you can use to buy practically everything, usually it give you the option of buying stuff ‘early’, so you don’t need to grind that much. We also offer a Veteran Membership to accommodate wishes of having an all-inclusive package, where you earn xp, ribbon-xp, in-game credits and warfunds at an increased rate etc.

Prices are regularly being tweaked now in Open Beta/Early Access and we will most likely still tweak prices at and after launch.”

How are you planning on involving the Community in your development process?

“We encourage the players to participate in discussions in our forum: http://forum.heroesandgenerals.com/

When you write feedback about the game, remember to try and explain your reasons. Constructive criticism will help us build a better game for you.”

Weapon and ribbon tweaks coming with Adams update

Infantry! Infantry everywhere! After showing you the new M16 MGMC, the GAZ-AAA and the SdKfz 7/1, there are also a handful of other tweaks incoming for the infantry! In the coming update named Adams (after the American hero Lucian Adams) a number of tweaks and adjustments will enhance infantry gameplay.

WEAPON TWEAKS
We have been digging through the stats for a while, listened (and read) a lot of feedback & talked to a number of players, and we have decided on a few tweaks to help improve the feel of the gunplay in the game. Most notably we are adjusting a number of values around the semi-auto rifles (the Gewehr 43, M1 Garand & Tokarev SVT-40) to make them more valuable as weapons for both new players and veterans.

Semi-Auto Rifle adjustments
The main changes to the way semi-auto rifles are used are that progress on the Specialist ribbons now move 25% faster, so when the Adams update hits the servers you will progress faster. We have also lowered the price on the boosters for these rifles. These two changes makes it easier for new players to progress on the weapon and unlock their first weapon upgrades for them. For the more experienced veteran players a few tweaks also helps make the semi-auto rifles an even stronger option for fighting on the medium range. We have decreased the ‘negative’ effects on the SA-rifle upgrades by about 30% and we have added a new upgrade – the “Scout II-s barrel” for SA-rifles that produces more range with a slight hit on stability. This upgrade helps make the SA-rifles a bit better at range and helps reduce the gap between semi-auto and bolt-action rifles.

For all rifles we are modifying the values on some of the rifle ammo upgrades by increasing the range of high-damage rifle ammo Bertie clay, S.m.K.Hart, and Heavy D a bit.

Ribbon Boosters
In addition to the changes to the Semi-Auto rifles we have also tweaked how the ribbon boosters work. So apart from lowering the price of the SA-rifle specialist ribbon booster, we have also lowered price of the entry level tank specialist boosters to help beginning tankers get rolling a bit faster. AND we have overall lowered gold prices on most boosters (except Driver & Chauffeur) by approximately 25% WHILE also raising the boost-% to 75% from 50%.

Submachine Guns
In addition to the above-mentioned changes to the SA-rifles we are also tweaking the SMGs a little. The balancing tweaks consists mainly of slightly reducing their effectiveness at range and ONLY at range. This helps reduce the SMG-sniping that we have received a lot of complaints about and focus the SMGs on their core use as close quarters weapons. This is done by changing the ranges for damage fall-off and by making precision/stability a lot more dependent on rate of fire.

Unlocks!
To help ease new players into the game and not let them immediately drown in a rain of grenades, we have removed hand grenades from the default loadout of infantry soldiers and moved them to be the first unlock on the Infantry Assault Ribbon at ribbon rank 3. In addition we have moved first SMG unlock to infantry assault level 4 (from 5) and moved bolt-action rifle unlocks to infantry assault level 6 (from 2). This was done as previously you unlocked bolt-action rifles and THEN SMGs which added unnecessary difficulties for new players where they bought bolt-action rifles before they had the skills to use them. We have also moved some of the captured AT mines and AT grenades 1 rank down in order to spread the unlocks out.

AND in order to make room for new Mobile AA vehicles we have moved the combat badge unlock “Ironfist Bronze” to chauffeur rank 3, and “silver” to chauffeur rank 7, and moved “Logistics Expert Bronze” and Silver to chauffeur rank 6 and 8 respectively.

Oh and when you are aiming your recently updated, tweaked & upgraded semi-automatic rifle or SMG at the enemy? You might notice they are no longer wearing backpacks. We are working on character models and for now we have removed their backpacks/parachutes as this has been requested by a lot of players. The backpacks (and maybe other packs) will return in a future update when we rework the uniform and character customization.

Early Access Review
Game Make look Appealing like a Cake but taste absolutely AWFUL!

Of course the Cake is aways a lie.

Here is a quite long review.

CHECK ✓
Notes: ✓ First couple of paragraphs is my story and reasons why I'm not recommending for you to play.
✓ Bottom of the page is a couple of positive points.

I will never forget the day on October 14th 2015 this game blew up my motherboard and GPU, where the servers had a virus which the Reto-Moto never apologised. However they did warned the players to remove the virus in their game files (after a couple of days later when the virus started). I have played this game for around 1,480 hours and have paid about $200 for some tanks and cosmetics (Which I so-so regret). This game may look appealing however theres way to many bugs and causing your PC to experience HIGH RAM/MEMORY issues (Even for my expensive PC). The Reto-Moto developers don't plan on releasing the GAME out of "Beta" which it is indeed has been in development for about 3-4 years Even PLANETSIDE 2 is way more successful than them! (Heroes and Generals was created around** 2012 way before the steam release).

SQUARE ENIX used to funded them until 2013 and then abandoned it due to the fact that one of their bussiness representatives believed it is a failure and won't succeed which they're right for that matter.Obiviously "Heroes and Generals" was extremely graphic fantastic and has great animations but since Square Enix left they took all those hard labour to make the game back to square one. Which now the developers have been trying to update the game little by little, one step at a time unfortunately. After that Reto-Moto then tried to release their game on steam ( July 11th, 2014) hoping to attract some customers/players to money grab them and save their small company because they are bankrupt or in debt.

I understand they have a small development team and but this game has way to many bugs as well as the worst fact is that their game engine is so terrible it's like running on a potato. I'm not sure if they'll delete this review or not but unforunately that's what Reto-Moto has been known for "deleting posts / community posts / their forum website posts" and anything that has negatively impact them. I will update anything that has been missing of what I've reviewed this terrible game, since after all I don't plan to play this game anymore its way too toxic for my tastes with their "business ideas".

(For example, always updating new weapons, skins, ONLY 1 new maps every year or so...purchasing in-game tokens for highly expensive equipment, always changing the equipment currency which cost higher than before. Having more characters/ name change for them cost more; dear lord the list goes on and on...) I would prefer if they bought brand new servers and update their game engine instead of those options where the players would stick around the game alot longer than before. OH I forgot the grinding is insane especially the rank system where you'll sacrifice 10 hours trying to get at least 100k of credits to buy a weapon (Which is around 150k-250k credits) Good luck pal!

Here's an orgainzed "Not recomended"** or Negative review.

[X] Weapons and Equipment / tanks/ aircrafts always changing (Prices if not ALWAYS increased) without Reto-Moto's explaination as to "why" or talking about it in his Twitch streams...

[X] Having more Characters and even more name changes for them the price WILL increase after the over cap of 15 total characters (Includes all factions).

[X] Leveling up in the rank system not only used to be harder but NOW it's exceptionally a lot harder than before.

[X] Experience gain is worse than before since many releases of updates just like the rank system.

[X] Ribbons gain is worse than before since many releases of updates just like the rank system and the experience gain...***

[X] You'll sacrifice 10 hours trying gain 100k credits...

If you plan on playing any online FPS games I suggest playing planetside with 96+vs 96+ players or Red Orchestra 2: Heroes of Stalingrad which has a more realistic game play (A couple of bullets will kill you, so you'll have to be very tactically inclinced, which I deemed fun.)

Like I said I'll update whenever need be.

EDITED: January 12th, 2016 11:47 pm - Ah yes like I mention since this game runs so poorly the servers always, by always I mean every single week it goes down. (This does not include "in-game maintenance" whatsoever.) That is because the server cannot handle a couple of thousand of players or at least a handful in that respect. As for the game engine itself I'm not sure what engine they're running at but it runs like a potato; terrible optimation for players who can't afford a very compatible computer. (I have a high-mid graphics card by the way). ALSO I'm very aware that this game is still in "Early Access" or in "BETA" however it is their RIGHT move to keep it this way, after all there will be a couple of lawsuits that this game is still "Uncompleted" if it is completed. But I'm fully "AWARE" Reto-Moto says a couple of times in their twitch/youtube videos that Heroes and Generals is "ALMOST" in their BETA PHASE but "What is ***Almost**?" How far or how long it'll take that the game will be finished or when the bugs will be fixed? Or when they'll introduce a new game engine + a server? If you read the one of the "Early Access Game" in Heroes and generals this is what they said. "Quote on Quote"

-> *Approximately how long will this game be in Early Access?*
(This is in Steam Early Access, in Heroes and Generals store page.)

“We're approaching the end of our Open Beta/Early Access phase, but it's still too soon for us to put a date on when we'll launch.”

I don't know guys this is reminding me of a game called "RUST". I'll update whenever I miss anything.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
EDITED: January 8th, 2016 8:50 pm - Thanks to a fellow user I will provide proof of my claims and I thank for their criticism.
Heroes and generals used to have a virus in their servers that may or may not infected some users.

Now I want to be fair with Reto-Moto here and I'll provide some "Positive Feed Back".
Heroes and Generals does have potential and here are the positive feeds that I've find**.

✓ Excellent a mix of being a "Heroes" -> FPS player or the RTS "General" to command and conquer Europe.

✓ Physics are not the best but is reasonably okay.

✓ Get to drive tanks, though all tanks have strengths and weaknesses; aircrafts (Only one air vehicle per faction unfortunately.)

✓ Weapons and equipment are expensive to get/grind however you'll enjoy the firepower and damage they'll use once modded which does take ages.

✓ Like all FPS online games there's teamwork, tactics and strategies.

✓ Map is reasonable huge even for 18 vs 18 players (Which is quite small... though I wish they would have 200vs200 battles like Planetside 2.) Although useful for tank / aircraft battles.

✓ Historical accurate? It's possible but I'm not even so sure, so I'll say they're close.***

I'll update anything needed be. ✓

Hope you found this review helpful, but again don't invest your time into Heroes and Generals.

I've been an active member of the Heroes and Generals Community For more than a year now, I've hosted a teamspeak which has brought in thousands of unique players to play heroes and generals. I Co-Hosted for the Battle Vision Contest to replace westwick. I created the largest english speaking Clan for Soviets Called "Red Star Union." I've been tossed away like used tissue paper. I've been banned on the forums for open critism on the game, and the forums are littered with German Fanboys. On top of that, this is the ban message I recieve(More like a ban threat): http://i.imgur.com/wHP4RIb.png . I don't have any more interest in this game and I am moving on to another game. If they want to treat me like this because I am so openly critical of their game, so be it. I feel like i wasted my last year and half believing in this game, Thinking that they accually listen to the players, but they don't. I don't recommend this game to anyone.

Forever in beta bs. get.
Sloppy gameplay. get.

Played it a long time, before it was supported by steam. But I have to say it is ♥♥♥♥.
The idea is fun, and the game has fun parts (I mean, Eichmann on a bicycle, that's hilarious).
But, it's getting worse and worse by every patch.
If you seek a game to relax (and not rip your ♥♥♥♥ (other body parts available) off, leave this page now!

A great game, but has a rough edge that should have been easily taken care of. The pricing of in game items is extremely unbalanced in terms of the amount of time people have to play in order to grab something as simple as a new set of grenades. Even maintaining a weapon and keeping stocked with custom amunition is too expensive. The credits (In game currency) gained per match is also problematic concerning the prices of in game items. Players, with fully modded weapons and excelent characters, need to do extremely well and win in order to not loose credits. Basically, this game requires large sums of time to grind out credits needed to buy some overpriced set of grenades, and to even maintain weapons. That, or the easy way; pour real world money into the game in order to get everything. Even more problems could be listed, but those problems aren't as major as the economy.
Will wait for changes to happen before changing review.

I can't understand how anyone, who does not want to use extensive amount of money to buy weapons and equipment, can stand to play this game. You have to grind for ages to get levels and ribbons in order to being able to buy anything. Even after being able to unlock something, the ingame money costs are abyssmal.

Unless you like to grind (with meh equipent at the beginning of the game) be prepared to use your wallet to achieve anything.

I want to like this game, I really do, but all these obstacles designed to frustrate you into using real money take all the enjoyement away.
