Euro Truck Simulator 2 Update 1.24 in Open Beta

A new wave of game updates is almost here. We are going to do a staged release for Open Betas of our truck sim twins; the first in line is Update 1.24 for Euro Truck Simulator 2. We want to avoid receiving too much feedback on too many things at the same time, so we will try your patience a bit more, and wait for a day or two with the Open Beta of the update for American Truck Simulator (+Arizona at last!).

As with every major game update, there are hundreds of changes and tweaks under the hood, but there two very notable new features, and a host of changes worth mentioning in a short changelog:

MAIN NEW FEATURES

Full list of changes:

CODE
  • Speeding highlight can be disabled (option).
  • Torque converter simulation greatly improved.
  • Automatic transmission behavior improved.
  • XInput support added.
  • Added UI support for 4th and 5th controller
  • SKRS detection and support
  • Gear shift selectors (range, split) now have UI support for position-based switches.
DATA AND MODDING
  • Scania trucks reworked, accessories added (intake, mask, bumper, mudflap, etc.).
  • Unit name fixes, most interior accessory and some other mods need update.
  • Damage params moved out from game_data.sii and some more added (including wear and part damage factors).
  • Data driven engines (torque curve, rpm limits).
  • Force feedback data for XInput added (force_feedback.sii).
  • Torque converter physics data added, separated manual clutch data (physics.sii).

You can find the beta in the public_beta branch on Steam. (Steam client → LIBRARY → right click on Euro Truck Simulator 2 → Properties → Betas tab → public_beta - 1.24 public beta). No password is required. A word of caution: make sure to back-up your profile and save game data before experimenting with beta builds!

Please keep in mind that this is still only a test version of the update, it's perfectly ok for you to wait and stay away from it until it's stable and final. If you are curious though and want to assist us in polishing it, we greatly appreciate your help. Please report any bugs on our forum.

Advanced Trailer Coupling

The upcoming open betas for the new game updates of Euro Truck Simulator 2 and American Truck Simulator are coming with a new feature: advanced trailer coupling. They say a picture is worth a thousand words and a video can show even more, so let's take a look at it first:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WBPS1kzOOsE

The new trailer coupling feature is optional - you need to enable it in the game's options to adjust the game's default trailer coupling behavior. Make sure to consider your precise reversing skills before doing so! ;)

The standard trailer coupling allowed for quite some room in the relative positions of the kingpin and the fifth-wheel. You could also "cheat" it by approaching the trailer from an angle. The new trailer coupling option uses full physical collision simulation for the kingpin and fifth-wheel - you will be faced with the same challenge as a real truck driver. Expecting this precision from a newbie player may be too intimidating, so we are keeping the standard simple coupling as a default, but we know that a lot of our experienced truck sim players are asking for more realism, and we hope that you will appreciate that we are improving the game in this regard step by step.

In addition to the kingpin/fifth-wheel simulation, we have also added an additional visual treat to several trailers in the game, with an animation of raising the trailer landing gear.

If you have really sharp eyes, you may notice something in the video which is also a teaser for a whole bunch of new tuning content coming to American Truck Simulator and Euro Truck Simulator 2 soon)

This game is kinda hard to review, mainly because I have no idea why I like it so much. Its just driving trucks...thats it, but somehow its fun and kinda relaxing. Driving around with the radio playing as you hit the open road and try not to run any red lights on the way, its just fun...yet I remain bereft of the words to describe why.

Amazing, realistic and relaxing truck driving simulator. Also the DLC add a lot to the game. Its not just some skins that some games (cough*CODCough*) would give you at the same price. But for that you get like 6 new countries. The vechile inside design is top notch but the other cars look like toys and their turning and AI is extremely stupid. Most of the crashes are caused by the AI. Other than that I would really recommend this game, especially If you have a simulation wheel and pedals. They make the game 4x better!

Lost about $3000 when I sent my $96,000 Mercedes Benz Actros with a trailer full of cheese in for repairs, because I crashed it going 89 km/h into a highway barrier, trying to hit that sharp turn upwards somewhere in bork bork country, while I was waving my arms to YMCA on the radio at 1 am, and I caused a massive traffic jam trying to reverse, until I hit 3 cars and gave up.

The best simulator game by far, seems boring and monotonous at first but really sucks you in. The world is not the best but all the important things like the traffic lights and the roadsigns are done very well. overall a good game 8/10

Get the Scandinavia DLC and the Cabin Accessories DLC. Then proceed to download and half-decent looking mods. Then, drive around in an American Volvo with a 4k bhp engine and roll over in a serious accident.

Well where do I start. This game was such a surprise. I'm not even sure what prompted me to purchase it in the first place (okay maybe it was the cheap steam sale price) but it was totally worth it.

As someone who spends a lot of time on the road IRL, ive nearly been killed by a big rig on a few occasions. After playing ETS2, my seething resentment has been replaced by a healthy respect for, and a new perspective on trucking. ♥♥♥♥ is intense.

I've spent the majority of my gaming career playing shooters, so when I come to ETS2 it was like a whole new world. There is something calming about blasting down the autobahn snaking through traffic, cranking the bluegrass station with a cargo of HAZMAT in tow, all the while breaking every traffic rule in the book. Speeding ticket? Good thing my final payout will cover that.

At times it was very challenging for me. I was surprised to see that many European countries drive on the right. However it was once I took the ferry from Amsterdam to Britan that I had the first of many mini-heart attacks. Before getting on the boat I had managed to pass through a roundabout flawlessly for the first time. Feeling quite proud of myself, I floored it into traffic as soon as I had got off the boat, only to run into a reverse roundabout. A string of profanities and several collisions later, I'd cleared the roundabout and was on my way to the drop-off through the British countryside.

The only downsides to this game I can see are minimal. The AI traffic doesnt really respond to the use of the horn, and there is little in the way of off-road trucking (I've only encountered one dropoff location that was down inside a quarry, of which I had to navigate down into). Other than that, this game is one throughly enjoyable sim. Oh and I could use more useless crap to throw on my dashboard. Thanks SCS! You've made gaming fun for me again.

Being a car guy, and really into simulation-style driving, I found this game to be perfect for me.

You can be a jackwagon, or 'good guy Greg' while doing long hauls across Europe. Driving country-to-country actually takes a decent amount of time, and really gives you that realistic trucking feel.

I often spend hours at a time completing one delivery after another.

On top of being able to drive yourself, you can hire AI drivers and build your own trucking company by buying garages in one of the many different cities.

THERE IS ALSO A MULTIPLAYER MOD. Works wonders, and only requires that you follow their simple set of rules to be allowed to play with up to 2000 other drivers on the same map!

Great so far. Great graphics, phenomenal realism and simplistic controls. Definately one for the library as you will be playing it more than you thought possible. Totally engrossing athough the jobs are fundamentally the same. Some how each job feels new; even if its on the same route.
The penalties for crashing and speeding make the a game a challange, as well as dispelling the common racing game feel. The scenery is very good and differs noticably. The physics feel acurate and there is a noticeable difference the way a truk handles during dry and wet conditions. Especially on the corners and when breaking.
Customizing your truck was the big draw for me and the game does rather well in this instance with a large array of options and paintworks on offer. I have found a flaw however, in that the extra driving lights and spotlights options dont actually work (or I havent found the key that turns them on). This (at least in my mind) defeats the purpose of fitting them.
All in all a great and engrossing simulator with plenty to ocupy your attention and time with.

We recently had our first child and I was looking for a relaxing game to play during my (limited) downtime. Well I found it. Cruising around Europe, soaking in the scenery while listening to some random french jazz radio station playing in my truck literally puts a smile on my face. It's also very effective as an excuse for more playing time... "I'm just 25 km from finishing my tomato delivery to Venice" is a lot harder to argue with than "I just need to kill these last few guys".

"Go finish your stupid delivery" is the usual response.

And I will.

Euro Truck Simulator 2 is a game with long lasting fun. Great handling models for each truck, great community, and great DLCs. The base game includes the UK, part of France, part of Italy, Belgium, Luxemburg, the Netherlands, Germany, part of Poland, part of Czech Republic, Austria and Switzerland. Expansion packs (as of 7/5/2016) are Scandinavia and Going East. Scandinavia has Norway, Sweden, and Denmark. Going East has countries like Hungary, Slovakia and Poland.
There are a lot of licensed trucks with 2 models per company. (Renault, MAN, DAF, Scania, Volvo and Mercedes) A lot of truck custimization, from paint job to light systems.
You work your way up the World of Trucks, starting with little money and no trucks. You do quick jobs until you can take a loan from the bank and buy a truck, or you can do a lot more and buy one without a load. As you level up, you can choose where to invest your training in. ADR, Long Distance, High Value, Fragile, Just In Time and Eco Driving. If you have enough money, you can expand your garage and buy more trucks, you can also buy other garages all over Europe. You can buy trucks for your employees and they will make money for you.

The game is constantly in development, the Vive La France DLC has been anounced and will have the rest of France. They also keep adding Flag Paint Job DLCs (currently are about 19 countries (7/5/2016)).

You should buy this game, it is worth it!

Quite possibly the greatest simulator ever made.

With its smooth gameplay, eye-watering graphics and a vast amount of vehicles available vanilla, you can be assured that your first drive in this game will be an unforgettable one.

Then there's the mod community. It has to be one of the biggest out there. There are many sites out there where you can download extra content for this game. There's so much of it out there, you'll probably need to rent out Google's servers for a day just to hold them all.

If you get this, I highly recommend you get the Multiplayer mod for this. It's that great, it won Mod of the Year 2014. You can meet other people who share the same interests as you and take a drive together. If showing off is your thing, you can enter a truckfest or drive in a convoy of your choice using the dedicated convoy sites. You even have the chance to drive a highly detailed car, which you can use for either piloting a convoy or just as an ordinary civilian vehicle.

Overall, this gets a 10/10 from me. And for as low as £3 during a sale, you can never go wrong. It's essentially a steal.

For few year old game, it's pretty impressive getting support like this. Awasome game play. Need some improvements over boring road structures, most of trucks doesn't feels heavy as they should be. Music player sounds like it's coming from another dimension-it would be better if music can be heard if as playing inside truck. Need more tire variants too. Great customizations to trucks on how they looks, but not with performance modifications.

Experience the big rigs you dreamt of behind the wheels as the driver. It's a simulator which means you have got to be patient while you develop driving skills. The driver skills are a great way to upgrade the driving experience.

It's not just about going places and admiring the scenery. You have got cash which means you gotta bank it. You start as an employee but sooner or later, with more jobs and more money, you get to have your own rig and build your own company. This is where I just love the gameplay! Especially when you are looking at the showroom and the expensive choices that feels just about real to make you value your hard earned income.

There is a very dynamic weather available that can go from a quite sunny to a gushing thunderstorm that can test your road skills. The night cycle is really dark and you can customise headlights to view better. Nothing becomes frustrating. The cargo you carry come in different varieties and payloads.

For my final verdict, I give this game 9/10. I have avoided a perfect 10 because in my opinion, a much more interactive traffic AI and damage physics would be rewarding!

When i saw the game i knew it was worth it. Bought it for 20€ ill never regret it if you get bored of singleplayer you have 3 options buy dlcs or download multiplayer or buy dlc/map expansions. I love both scandinavia and going east. I like scandinavia because it adds a lot of roads cities and BEAUTIFUL scenary. Multiplayer is genius! There is a lot of modification options for trucks. The graphics are amazing. Now there is workshop. What else do you need? There are real live radios/live radios if you have internet connection of course. If you need screenshots look at my profile i made a lot of those. Hope this helped if you want to ask anything just ask me. 11/10 buy this.

One of the most entertaining simulators I ever tried.
Gives a very good and calm driving experience and realistic phisics except for the truck damage that basically doesn't exist on the body of the truck, if you hit a car or a fence it only wrecks the engine % nothing more.
But in general a very good game!

The DLCs are very valuable and interesting and have very good prices for the extras they give you.

*Scania, Volvo, Mercedes... you name it, they have it.

Euro Truck Sim 2 is one of those games that you can sit back and relax while driving at the country side. The physics mechanics of the game works great, after all it's a simulator game. Europe is huge, with the map expansion DLC the map is larger than ever. Did i not mention that the game has tons of mods to play with and the most enjoyable ones would be the multiplayer mod where it allowed you to continue your gameplay as per normal just that there will be thousands of online players in the map which adds on to the challenge.

All in all, a great truck simulator game but i am sure many would like to see that the trucks could have more detailed collision damage, for instance the wheel can get puncture or the suspension could get broken through collision.
