Galacide + DLCs -80% off on Steam

Hi all, a quick deviation from Blade Symphony (I'll be bringing patch news as well as news of a competiton for Blade Symphony soon).

Galacide + DLCs are now on sale -80% off. We recently released the soundtrack for Galacide composed by Tom Stoffel (the same composer for Blade Symphony's sound track). If you haven't played Galacide why not give it a spin and if you're a big fan of Tom's work, the game + soundtrack is well worth it!

About This Game

Prove you are the world's greatest swordsman in Blade Symphony: a slash-em-up featuring a highly detailed and in-depth sword fighting system. Face down other players in tactical swordplay, 2 versus 2 team duels, sandbox FFA, or the Control Points game mode!

Choose your fighting style

Each of the four characters have a unique fighting style suited to how you want to play.
  • Phalanx, a fencer gladiator hybrid, attacks with long range stabs and a versatile array of side attacks
  • Judgement, a knight crossed with a samurai, uses hard hitting forward attacks and wide strafing attacks
  • Ryoku, a vagrant street ninja, attacks with break dance moves and a signature reverse blade style
  • Pure, an acrobatic wushu style assassin that attacks with flips, cartwheels, extremely mobile
  • Vanguard, a quick-footed champion that uses leaning plunges to push opponents into her blade

Each character has four combat stances and over forty different attacks.

Choose Your Sword

Pair your character up with a sword type to completely change your way of approaching combat.
  • Katana, cause massive damage when parrying your opponents
  • Longsword, a well-balanced, hard hitting and adaptable sword
  • Rapier, a piercing, high damage forward thrusting weapon great for parrying
  • Scimitar, a weapon based on turning and performing as many cuts as possible
  • Jian, an agile, responsive weapon great for combos

Tactical Sword Fighting

There are no unlockable advantages in Blade Symphony. All unlockables are cosmetic. You care about proving your skill and so should your game.

Every attack has openings that are determined in real-time and efficacy is entirely up to you. Did you start an attack too early? Turn away and end the attack in a safe location. Did your opponent stupidly use a lighter stance? Go in and punish him! By switching stances mid-combo you can chain attacks into your own flurry of death.

The fighting system is open for your exploration, you can dash, jump, do an air attack, land, swing sideways with a heavy stance, parry with a light stance, and then roll away.

Every attack flows from your blade in true three dimensional space. As does your opponents! Swords collide in mid-air and you will need good timing and aim to defeat your opponent.

Advanced Character Customization

Customize your character with skins, masks, swords, and multiple attachments streamed directly from Steam Workshop.

Fight as a Team

Play in the new Control Points game mode and participate in team-based sword fighting.

Blade Symphony is a visually pleasing, adrenaline filled sword fighting game. With a healthy number of characters, stages and weapons in good variety, players are the only thing that’s sorely lacking in the game.

The controls are intuitive and easy to grasp, but the combat has a lot of depth. Learning when to block is just as important as learning how to attack, as well as making use of the environment to maneuver around your enemy like an acrobat on steroids.

The inclusion of bots is a good thing since it provides opportunities for practices, but the game would have been a lot better if there were additional challenge modes on wall riding or style mixing.

It is a shame that the game held so much potential but never fully realised because of the non-existent community. While I am aware that dozens of veterans still play this on a regular basis, but they tend to scare away new players more than anything, mostly due to the huge gap in experiences.

While it is possible to git gud over time, I fail to see how it could be fun if I get trashed by the same 5-6 people over and over for months. Now if the developer can adjust the asking price to a dollar USD and put this frequently on sale, the community might just thrive again. Sadly, I don’t see this happening any time soon. With all that I’ve seen from the game and all things considered, I will give this a marginal recommendation and hope it will help in drawing in new blood.

I think this game is amazing. Combining sword fighting with parkour, having different "classes" and community maps, capes, masks and swords to play with makes the game awesome. On top of that, even though the game looks nice, it doesn't have high requirements in order to run smoothly. The only reason I don't recommend that you buy the game is that the servers are empty 99% of the time.

When I first got this game, there were more players than there originally were. Nowadays, there are only 5 or less people on a single server, and it would sometimes be rare to find a server with more than that amount.

But sometimes, I wonder, what went wrong with this game?

The game has an amazing concept, that's for sure. The idea of dueling using a variety of combo's is certaintly intresting, with the community having to study each move a character makes carefully, to figure out what is the best one. It also looks a bit nice, as you watch your fighter gracefully execute their moves in a strong fashion.

But what I think went wrong with the game is that it simply feels a bit unfinished.

Right now, there are only 5 characters to choose from, each with their own style with a variety of weapons to pick. But the issue here is, there isn't really much to do other than duel other people. Sure fighting other people is fun, but what else is there? Yeah there are other modes, but what else? The main thing here is what else? There are only about 3 modes to choose from, while the developers rarely provide updates for the game. This is more of a game to play once in a while, maybe with your friends or with other people, and that's that.

However,

I do think this is an alright game, despite its flaws. But I simply cannot reccommend this game, with its community abandoning the game, the lack of modes, and the dev's not really supporting this game at a fast rate.

Unless you've got some friends to play with, I suggest to buy this game when it's heavily discounted.

Blade Symphony review

Overview
Blade Symphony is a sword based group fighting game. Customize your whole loadout with a ton of sword types, characters and skins. The maps are decently sized for this type of game, they're a bit boring though, just very basic. During combat, you can do arial attacks and change from fast to balanced to heavy to even powered attacks, oh, and blocking attacks. I imagine the game would be fun if people actually played it, so I wouldn't need to play with bots to experience the game. Because the game is dead, half of it is locked behind a wall of "here's some content you need to buy with credits to get, but play against real people to get the credits", which is beyond frustrating. So here you are, stuck with the starter swords and a free little cardboard tube, I suppose it's not much to do with actual gameplay, though, and more to do with customization... However when you finish playing with bots there's really not much to do other than wait for friends to buy the game. So, from what I have gathered about the game: different sword genres (such as rapier and katana), many different maps, tons of potential content.

Gameplay
I'd say it's rather easy and very simple to understand. Just go with fast swings so you can hit the enemy before they can even charge an attack and you will win much more times than not. A match consists of either 2 or 3 rounds depending if one side wins the first and second one or not. These mechanics are nothing innovative, maybe just because it's past paced, but otherwise it's pretty similar to what many other games of this genre are like.

Pros and Cons

Pros:
Potential content
Multiplayer
Great customization
Map variations

Cons:
Very little players
Rare updates

Finale
If you like bots and swords, sure, go for it.

Oh rest in piece, Blade Symphony,
For your glory seems to have gone,
As though it impressed me instantly,
You don't have the strength to go on.

Your playerbase is dead,
It is both sad and true,
You never could get ahead,
Of those similar to you.

And thus this poem ends,
Along with this beautiful game,
It is too late to make amends,
And as such it shall die without fame.

Thank you.
