Patch 3540 is out, yo.

It’s been a few weeks since we’ve patched, but we’ve hammered out a few small things that we want to get out immediately. Everything we’re working on now are pretty big, and it wouldn’t make sense for us to release it all until it’s done. So until that happens, have a small patch. Enjoy!

  • Disabled sheathed sprinting while dueling in FFA.
  • Added an option in the menus for turning your in game health bars on and off.
  • Added extra filters into the server browser, you can now hide/show empty and full servers.
  • Tickets no-longer show up when the round is starting.
  • Added a respawn timer to the HUD that counts down from 5.
  • Remade the wall related parkour animations.
  • Added a new action that plays in-between the wall run and wall slide action to transition between the two.
  • Added new alternate skin and mask for Pure
  • Changed the required percentage to vote kick console variable (bb_vote_kick_required_<wbr>percentage) to 60% from 80%.
  • Added console variable for enabling or disabling vote kicking (bb_vote_kick_enable)
  • Added console variable for something else but Ryan couldn’t explain it to me well enough, and I really didn’t want to read the crazy forum post about it (bb_vote_gamemode_enable)
Bug Fixes
  • Fixed duels ending in a draw if a player dies from fall damage.
  • Fixed a number of sound-related console errors.

Patch 3441 released!

Hey gang!
Thanks to everyone that has helped us track down some issues with the game, including that nasty end of round control point crash. We're still trying to find a fix for the Steam Validation Rejected issue. In the mean time, enjoy this new patch!

  • Free For All: Players now move faster when they are sheathed.
  • Control Point: Players can now change who they view when dead.
  • Control Point: Music now changes depending on whether or not in combat.
  • Control Point: Spawn times scale based off of players currently playing.
  • Control Point: Players now spawn instantly during starting period and intermission.
  • Control Point: Added in-game health bars.
  • Throwables now require line of sight in order to lock on.
  • Merged in balance changes from community, see patch notes here.
Bug Fixes
  • Control Point: Fixed a crash that happened if someone was spectating at the end of a round.
  • Control Point: Fixed a bug causing tickets to never stop flashing if points were all capped.
  • Control Point: Fixed a bug causing blue HUD points to replay particle effect after pausing.
  • Fixed a collision problem with the catwalks on free_district
Known Issues
  • Users occasionally receive a “Steam Validation Rejected” issue when connecting to a server using Pure workshop items.
  • Users can work around this by disabling/detaching the Pure workshop items before joining a server from the main menu.

"... the saving grace of Blade Symphony is that its duels are thoroughly, distinctively, and consistently exhilarating."
PC Gamer

"Blade Symphony is primed and ready to help expand the melee combat genre on the PC."
Capsule Computers

"Blade Symphony looks like Chivalry with elegance."

"When it’s a Dystopia dev’s new otherworldly duelling game, you pay attention. Especially when it’s looking quite so beautiful."

About This Game

Prove you are the world's greatest swordsman in Blade Symphony: a slash-em-up featuring a highly detailed and in-depth sword fighting system. Face down other players in tactical swordplay, 2 versus 2 team duels, sandbox FFA, or the Control Points game mode!

Choose your fighting style

Each of the four characters have a unique fighting style suited to how you want to play.
  • Phalanx, a fencer gladiator hybrid, attacks with long range stabs and a versatile array of side attacks
  • Judgement, a knight crossed with a samurai, uses hard hitting forward attacks and wide strafing attacks
  • Ryoku, a vagrant street ninja, attacks with break dance moves and a signature reverse blade style
  • Pure, an acrobatic wushu style assassin that attacks with flips, cartwheels, extremely mobile

Each character has four combat stances and over forty different attacks.

Choose Your Sword

Pair your character up with a sword type to completely change your way of approaching combat.
  • Katana, cause massive damage when parrying your opponents
  • Longsword, a well-balanced, hard hitting and adaptable sword
  • Rapier, a piercing, high damage forward thrusting weapon great for parrying
  • Scimitar, a weapon based on turning and performing as many cuts as possible
  • Jian, an agile, responsive weapon great for combos

Tactical Sword Fighting

There are no unlockable advantages in Blade Symphony. All unlockables are cosmetic. You care about proving your skill and so should your game.

Every attack has openings that are determined in real-time and efficacy is entirely up to you. Did you start an attack too early? Turn away and end the attack in a safe location. Did your opponent stupidly use a lighter stance? Go in and punish him! By switching stances mid-combo you can chain attacks into your own flurry of death.

The fighting system is open for your exploration, you can dash, jump, do an air attack, land, swing sideways with a heavy stance, parry with a light stance, and then roll away.

Every attack flows from your blade in true three dimensional space. As does your opponents! Swords collide in mid-air and you will need good timing and aim to defeat your opponent.

Advanced Character Customization

Customize your character with skins, masks, swords, and multiple attachments streamed directly from Steam Workshop.

Fight as a Team

Play in the new Control Points game mode and participate in team-based sword fighting.

Blade Symphony this game is worth paying attention especially those who like fighting on swords. Very dynamic and exciting battles unless you find a worthy opponent. I think that the game is worth the money and I would put the estimate of 9/10.

Being a long-time Jedi Knight player (JK2 and JK3), and also an app/mod dev for JK, I had quite the expectations regarding this game. Devs promised me exciting fights, exhausting duels, a lot of skill-based gameplay and... I got it.

For those who didn't really fall for lightsaber dueling or don't think Star Wars Universe has anything to do with Blade Symphony I'm gonna try and convince you to this game without any further comparisions to my favorite franchise.

The whole idea of this game is to create a competitive environment for players to duel with various melee weapons (but really mostly swords and such). The goal was to make it pleasurable, fast, dynamic while keeping it more advanced/difficult than just your average arcade game in TPP where you hack and slash your way to victory.

It's a game of strategy, analysis and customizing your gameplay to fit your style. I wanna talk about the latter first: It's really well done, you get to choose from 4 characters, and each one of them has got a completely different moveset and playstyle. I mean it, you don't get two same moves for any of the heroes. I've noticed 1-2 similiar moves but then again they follow up into something else, have different range, different purpose, are from a different "string" (I'll talk about it later). If that's not enough for you, you get to choose a sword type - there are 5 at the moment. Each one of them has got different properties and different "defensive" ability. You also get to choose what the sword looks like but that's a detail.

Let's talk about the gameplay: It's brilliant. How do you mix dynamic fights with tactics? You put 4 categories of attacks, each one of them countering 1 of them, at the same time being weak against another. Attacks also have exact "trails" - some leave you open, some attack from the left, some attack from the right, some make you spin and attack everything around you, but there are still openings your opponent can use. So can you. Combat is still fast-paced and you feel the adrenaline rush. Add "strings" to that. Attacks come in patterns but you can break the pattern, reset it and completely confuse your opponent. It's truly a game of skill, predictions and observation. Choose the right style, combo the way to surprise your opponent, fake an attack, reset your pattern, parry, use the openings in the opponent's pattern - seems simple, but is ingenious.

There are a few gamemodes but really you should know you can take part in FFA, duels (1v1, 2v1, 2v2) and Hero mode. Hero mode chooses one of the players to be the "hero" - he gets empowered attacks but all the enemies are trying to kill him at the same time.

As for the audio: it's neither bad nor good. I didn't really puy much attention to it and for the most part I just had my own music running in the background. Have to say I've played a bit with the in-game music and it wasn't irritating at any part. Only thing I could wish for is some better hit-sounds.

Graphics are just ok, living up to standards but still pretty simple. That's ok, you wanna stay focused on the fights and there's no irritating visual stymulus coming from the game itself. Some of the fighting areas seem a little bit empty and poorly designed but it's not much of a deal at all. Lastly I'll just say that camera work is intuitive and you can actually adjust it in any way imaginable (e.g. angle, yaw, shaking, moving, rotation, height, distance).

I can really recommend this game. If you like dynamic sword fights with a bit of tactics you will enjoy this game. It's simple, but holy ♥♥♥♥, in its simplicity it's beautiful.

This game is very funny. I tried it out when it was free at weekend and i can say that i love it. I bought it for 3.47 or something like that so I can improve.

For everyone who likes being a little bit competitive sometimes and wants to see progress in his work : Go buy it! The game doesn't really "help" u to get in the game. Tutorial gives u the basics and the Training sessions with bots are boring and easy. But as soon as u enter a server u will love it. U'll search for competetors and duel one after another. You will improve by every mistake and it won't get boring that fast, because everyone got his own fighting style... some go more agressive some stay more defensively ; sure u will say right now " then there are noobs who take forfeits in sitting in one corner" , and i can easily say that this is not true. Why u may ask? The game gives u everything u need to take or make forfeits. U can win every (EVERY) fight. I play with my brothers and friends and we compete with each other and others on the internet. The game is worth it's cost so go ahead and buy it.

The tutorial might not be the most informative, but once you get the hang of the game you just get reeled in by the fun of it. I got this game on sale luckily but this game is still definately worth a buy without the sale IMO.

I belive this game has a great aspect of learning and practice behind it. You are not forced to learn, however you do learn either trough the mant tutorials and the more you can add to the game or through just playing it in general. You'll learn to utuilize your character, your sword type, and the 3 (4 to be specific) stances to make sure you do your best in any match.

Oh, and did I mention there are a wide selection of customization options in the workshop?

This game is amazing. I first played it on free weekend and became really good at it. There is much to say about this game. The community is great. When i first came into the game I asked A LOT of people which swords to use for Ryoku. I turned out to stick with the long sword. The game is well balanced and its easy to counter spammers. Yah now Like teh butter on teh rice with the chikun pot piee. Me love pures buttocks. LIke Dayum. Some can say its PURE!!!!

10/10 MUST GET!!

DISCLAIMER : I don't fully recommend this game but I rated it up because the pro/con balance stays positive.
I'm going to be direct : if you don't like competitive/versus gameplay, just go away. This game isn't for you. No need to read the rest of the review.

Now, if you're still here, you might be interested.
Let's be honest, this game is HARD AS HELL when you're a beginner. The tutorial doesn't really help, there's no solo/bot play at the moment and the only mode available is 1v1 Versus. There is no matchmaking, you are free to join the server you want. This is how, on my very first game, I fought against the 113th world's best player. No need to say I got REKT.
Despite the density (not easy to understand at first glance and not very intuitive controls) of the game and its little balance problems (just check the forums, but it's nothing that can affect you as a beginner) Blade Symphony remains pleasing.
I'm not the best versus player in the world, on the contrary actually... yet I won my first match after a dozen of fights which is not so bad and quite rewarding.
Nice addition : There's Worshop Content available for this game.

Finally, I'd say this game needs time to add what it lacks of and fix some issues. Just give it time.
I'm not going to rate this game /100 as I'm not a big versus player and I don't think I have enough knowledge of versus games to rate this accurately.

Blade Symphony is a game of patience and strategy or if you're me, you'll just spam random attacks and hope the enemy walks into it. I somehow made it to Master rank for one day but got shot down quickly back to Steel. When fighting against any rank, it gets scary because you don't know what they'll do. Not everyone just spams Heavy Attacks and hopes for the best, some people charge it and do some crazy charge jump and one-hits me, I cry each time it happens. Then again, it's probably my fault I don't move away. While I do find the game sometimes imbalanced, it's probably because I suck. Anyways, there have been good and bad moments but the game is worth every cent.

Side Note: Most of the community is nice, I once went AFK due to a distraction and pressed sit, my opponent didn't even kill me and just let the game get to a tie.
