Multiplayer Game Modes:

Push --- Three territorial objectives must be captured by the attacking team in sequential order. For each objective captured, they gain more reinforcement and time to attack the next. Defenders have a finite amount of reinforcements and must use each wisely. Once the third objective is captured by the attackers, a fourth cache objective must be destroyed, while the defenders have only one life to make a last stand.

Firefight --- Three territorial objectives, one for each team, plus one neutral. Each team only respawns when they secure an objective. Secure all objectives or eliminate all enemy to win. Every life counts, making this a very suspenseful experience dependent upon teamwork.

Skirmish --- In addition to three territorial objectives, each team has a supply cache to protect. Teams gain extra reinforcement waves until their cache is destroyed. When both teams have lost their caches and all reinforcement waves, it becomes a Firefight match.

Occupy --- There is one central territorial objective in the area. The team that controls it does not deplete reinforcement waves. This gameplay in this mode is reminiscent to King of the Hill or "tug of war".

Ambush --- A high value target ("HVT") must be escorted to an extraction point. It's one team's goal to make this happen and it's the other team's goal to stop this from happening at all costs. The HVT is only armed with a silenced pistol, but can pick up a weapon from a fallen enemy or teammate.

Strike --- Three weapon caches must be destroyed by the attacking team to achieve victory. Destroying a cache earns the attackers more reinforcements and time on the clock. The defenders must retain at least one cache from being destroyed and eliminate the enemy team once their reinforcements run dry.

Infiltrate --- The standard Capture the Flag mode, but with a twist. Your team's goal is to take the enemy's intel and return it to your base. Your team will only gain reinforcements when someone takes the enemy's intel, or when an enemy stealing your team's intel is neutralized. This mode requires very strong team coordination and strategy.

Flashpoint --- One neutral territorial objective and two caches on each side. The goal is to secure the entire area, controlling the middle and destroying the enemy's caches. Your team respawns when they secure the territorial objective or destroy a cache objective.

Elimination --- In this single life mode, attackers must destroy one of two weapon caches, or eliminate the enemy team within the time limit. Defenders must kill all attackers.

Cooperative Game Modes

Checkpoint --- Complete mission-based objectives in sequence against AI enemy. Each successful objective will respawn anyone who was eliminated along the way.

Hunt --- Insurgents are dispersed in the environment, and your squad must eliminate all targets while locating and destroying the weapons cache. High on tension, with only one-life.

Survival --- Play as Insurgents and fight against endless waves of progressively difficult Security enemies on night themed maps. Reaching safehouse objectives with your team earns you supply to purchase better weapons and spawns any dead teammates.

Outpost --- Defend your supply cache against endless waves of enemy trying to destroy it. Each successfully defended wave will bring in reinforcements of your teammates.

Conquer --- Capture the objectives in the area and defend them from enemy trying to retake them. Destroy enemy weapon caches to thin out their numbers.

The most exciting, immersive, fun, and lethal multiplayer FPS I have ever played.

The Battlefield...

If I had one word to describe the experience, it's TACTICAL. First, if you're coming from BF3/4, the COD franchise, or CS:GO/S, forget everything you've learned about gun fights. Two, or often one, hit will kill you which means you need to use cover, suppression, smoke, and flash to get around. Gun fights are TENSE - this is partly due to the lethality of weapons, but also the suppression mechanic: you can hear the bullets wizzing by your head, your screen blurs, and if you pop your head out at the wrong time - THWACK, and your dead.

MAPS are expertly designed, consistently updated, lots of variety, and new ones are created suprisingly often for such a small developer.

WEAPONS have character and I've found new favourites for given situations even 100 hours into playing. UNLIKE CS:GO where you have to memorize spray and spread patterns for each weapon, Insurgency weapons perform realistically in that, wherever the sights are pointed, THAT IS EXACTLY WHERE THE BULLET WILL GO - weapons still recoil, but you know exactly where the bullet is headed when it does.

GAME MODES - brilliant. Co-op is awesome, multiplayer modes are relatively diverse and awesome. What's really unique here is the emphasis on teamplay. You really need to coordinate with your team to win certain modes, whether its popping smoke or having someone cover you while you move up. What sets this game apart, other than everything else, is that players work together here - you're not playing with the silent majority on BF4 or COD - people are on their mics, strategizing and celebrating the game - mostly adults too (well, adults who yell "Alloha Snackbar" as terrorists while throwing grenades at American Soldiers, haha). If you get this game, get mic please, you miss out on a lot of the fun and you contribute to making this game less fun for everyone.

Final Words...

One of my favourite games on PC. Kudo's to a great development team who keep this game alive with frequent updates and tourneys. They obviously have a passion for what they do, and it's part of what makes this game great.

It also happens to have a total conversion mod for my first multiplayer FPS (TPS*) addiction, Socom 1 & 2 ( "Socom: Source" ).

Step 1. Get drunk.
Step 2. Pick the Insurgent team.
Step 3. Get a class with IEDs.
Step 4. Find an enemy you can sneak up behind.
Step 911. Pull out your IED drop it next to the both of you and scream in your mic ALLAHU AKBAR and blow the both of you up.
Step 912. Visit Allah for a few second before you respawn.

I believe Insurgency delivers on what it promises. A fast paced, first-person tactial shooter.
The guns are great, they feel very realistic and satisfying when you use them, The game visuals are really impressive for a game running on the source engine, The community is great,as they accept new players unlike *Cough* CSGO *Cough* , and heaps of gamemodes and maps that will keep you hooked on the game for hours on end.

So basically, if you enjoy tactial FPS games that requires skill like Battlefield, i can definitely assure you will like this game.

Insurgency is an amazing game that blends the one-life CS:GO formula with less arcadey, more tactical, teamwork based gameplay with realistic elements seen in shooters like ARMA. If you're looking for a more realistic and tense First Person Shooter, Insurgency delivers this amazingly well without being a full blown simulator. It perfectly compromises realism and gameplay into one addicting experience.

- Great graphics. The game has very good visuals, whether it be a large desert area with few buildings and abandoned humvees, to multiple indoor areas such as markets, a ministry, and more. The gun models and textures are all decent as well.
- Sound design. The soundtrack itself is very good. It fits the mood of the game and especially in tense moments, when you turn the tide of the match, to even defeat. It captures these themes fairly well. However, where the sound design really excels is its attention to detail. From immersive suppressive gunfire sounds that seem to ping right above your head to footsteps of a rebel approaching your corner, it really puts you into the firefight.
- Gunplay. I haven't had such satisfying gunplay since the classic PAYDAY 2 days, which is impressive. Insurgency really puts a lot of research and details into making their weaponry faithful and pretty realistic too. The guns feel nice and they're a blast to fire. Even though some guns serve more or less the same purpose, they still feel and look different, which is a welcome change. Popping enemies and scoring headshots is really satisfying despite there being no hitmarkers in this game.
- Lots of game types. Insurgency has a healthy variety of game types, so you won't get bored easily. There's Checkpoint, Conquer, Survival, and more. Other than PvP there is also a PvE Co-Op, which also has multiple gametypes. You could easily play only the PvP aspect of Insurgency or just the Co-Op aspect of Insurgency and still get many hours out of the game.
- Good selection of maps. There's a lot of different settings in this game, even if most of them take place in a desert. Other than that, each map feels different, with different vantage points, cover, and more. There's smaller, indoor maps to sprawling, Battlefield esque maps like Buhriz with very open areas.
- Point system. There's a pretty nice point system that is similar to the CS:GO system where you buy weapons and armor, but instead of money you use a permanent supply of points. For example, you'll start off with 5 points, with your gun being one point, attachments and extra armor being another. This adds a level of customization and various "builds" of gear within different classes.
- Modding/workshop. There is a very active modding and workshop community in Insurgency. Whether it be drastically different gun models, attachments, sound packs, or even complete reworks of the game that you can play in custom servers. It strays away from the cancerous microtransactions (looking at you CS:GO and PAYDAY 2) and instead allows you to endlessly customize with no limit...and it's free.
- Community. Now this might be a surprise. An Online modern and fairly popular FPS not having a completely cancerous community? Yes, that's right. Now, of course you'll run into the eventuall troll, mic spammer, and the guy who keeps saying "Allahu Ackbar" trying really hard to be funny, but other than that most of the community is very cooperative. I've met many friendly players across multiple servers and game modes.

- There really isn't much to say bad about this game. It's that good. There are a small amount of bugs and every blue moon your game might crash, but it's understandable since it's a smaller team working on this game. Also if you alt tab from games a lot this game does take forever to tab back in, but these are nitpicks.

- Minimalistic HUD. Personally I love this HUD since it not only fits the realistic feel of the game and removes the clutter, and it looks nice too. But it's up for the player if they like this type of HUD or not.
- No single player. This isn't a single player/story driven game. There's a short tutorial that acts as an introduction but there's not much more than that. If you're looking for a big story or narrative you should search somewhere else. The fun in this game is found in the multiplayer.
- Realistic elements and gameplay. This isn't CS:GO or Call of Duty. It's more like Battlefield and ARMA combined with the life system of CS:GO. A stray bullet can and will end your life even if you have a helmet and extra armor. This game requires more of your attention, teamwork, and slower tactical gameplay. You can't run and gun the same like in other shooters. So again, if you're looking for arcadey gameplay like that, look somewhere else.

Overall, Insurgency is an excellent game. It has constant free updates, bug fixes, and the game itself is only $15, which it itself is a huge steal. Even then this game goes on sale pretty often, so you really get your bang for your buck here. Considering all the factor's I've mentioned, the price, and the developers' work ethics, I'd give this game a full 10/10. I highly recommend this game for almost every military FPS fan.
