Harvey's New Eyes is the story of Lilli: "the bravest girl in the world". At least that describes the narrator, a disembodied voice from the off, which would actually much rather tell of the "human eye-eating robot possum," but this must not, because too many children sit in front of the screen.
Edna and Harvey: Harvey's New Eyes is a solid, well-built adventure, but don't be fooled by the cartoon-like visuals: It's a dark trip to a very strange place where happy endings are in short supply.
Harvey's New Eyes actually follows the adventures of Lilli, a small, blonde near-mute girl living in a convent school. Lilli is the most virtuous child in the whole world, and yet their lives in the monastery is not easy. Your relationship with most of the other students is strained at best.
and it is often the aim of the Mother Superior is fast, irrational anger. Your only true friend is the older and much more talkative Edna, but when Edna hiding to escape the clutches of a mad child psychologist, life is complicated.
Lilli must first help from the monastery and then follow down to the hidden secrets they discover, and maybe learn a thing or two about themselves in the process escape her friend.
Most puzzles are inventory based, some with complex combinations, and often drawing from the game’s wacky humor (the solutions aren’t always terribly realistic). The game also features a handful of standalone mini-games -- logic puzzles presented in a close-up screen and requiring both text and image pattern analysis. Unless you’re blessed with a fabulous memory, a couple of these will require taking notes.
(Some of the mini-games can be skipped.) After Harvey’s appearance, the challenges involve problem solving in dreamlike landscapes to change or access something encountered in the workaday world.
Knowing the story and the characters of The Breakout adds to your experience in Harvey's New Eyes. But in some ways (easier interface, no frustrating invisible trigger, a compelling story).
Harvey's New Eyes is a better introduction to the saga. A quirky approach - start with Harvey's New Eyes to the end of chapter two, then play the breakout as long flashback sequence, and return later to finish the last chapter of Harvey's New Eyes.
Edna & Harvey: Harvey's New Eyes gives gamers an adult experience while providing the necessary cover for a teen rating. Recommended for old school gamers looking for a reminder of the past, or those who enjoy quirky plots.
It is aimed at adventure gamers who enjoy tongue-in-cheek humor and absurdist scenarios with dollops of darkness.
Score: 70 / 100
