"I’m rather enamoured by the unique flavour of online combat presented by Chivalry. It’s fresh and fun, and like the very best games is easy to get into yet incredibly hard to master."

About This Game

Besiege castles and raid villages in Chivalry: Medieval Warfare is a first-person slasher with a focus on multi-player. Featuring competitive online combat that seeks to capture the experience of truly being on a medieval battlefield. Inspired from the intensity and epicness of swordfighting movies such as 300, Gladiator and Braveheart, Chivalry: Medieval Warfare aims to bring that experience to the hands of a gamer.

The game is skill-based and controls like an FPS, but instead of guns and grenades, players are given swords, shields, maces, battleaxes and longbows. Set in a fictional, yet gritty and realistic world, players will fight in fast paced online battles besieging castles, raiding medieval villages and fighting for glory in the arena with up to 32 players.

Key Features:

  • Deep melee combat system provides players with a huge range of responsive combat options
  • Adjust your attacks and blocks in real time with the mouse for precise and full control of the action
  • Wield an arsenal of up to 60 brutal weapons ranging from broad swords and battle axes to longbows and javelins
  • Dynamic objective system brings team tactics and strategy to the forefront as players batter down gates, raid villages and assassinate enemy royalty to achieve victory.
  • Use a variety of siege weapons ranging from catapults, boiling oil, ballista, battering rams and more
  • Vast, lush environments that transport the player to a gritty and immersive medieval world.
  • Offline play options that allow players to gain familiarity with the controls and gameplay before being thrust into the action.

got this in a humble bundle awhile ago, really glad i did not pay more than a dollar for it. The premise itself is a good one however there where several issues with it for me.

-customization sounds like a good idea until you see it implimented. When everyone changes their clothing color it is extremely hard to tell who is an enemy and who is on your team. This is especially an issue for people who have issues with certian colors. There is no real way to see who your teammates are until you either stare at them (and often dont move), or kill them.

-Then you get vote kicked. it also does not matter if you have a decent/good score, youll still get kicked. Vote kicking is frequent in this game (like i see a vote kick on someone every minute or two) and it can be very hard for a new player to even finish a match because you are kicked out constantly.

-controls are not that great as well. half of the time i do the combo moves but they do not register.

-hitboxes are an issue. I have ran my sword through people without them taking any damage at all.

normally i would try the game more before making a review but i have no desire to. I know that other people like it but it's just not for me.

Do you like being "killed by teammates" over and over again?
Do you like going on 1v1 and getting "backstabed" in the back by someone?
Do you believe that you could counter 2 handed sword with "butter knife"?

If Answer Yes To All Questions Then This Game Is For You!

Skill gaps have made this game utterly unplayable past level 15 for anyone who hasn't poured hours into figuring out how it works. Don't bother picking it up if you expect to play after you leave the low-skill tiers.

combat is soooooooo slow, glitchy, full of team killers, and completely random. The community is filled with elitist pieces of trash who most likely spend their weekends playing this or LARPing

This game is awesome everything about is great except for one thing. The community. I just bought this game today and got kicked 3 times today. First was accidently killing a teammate, I did say I was sorry but I still got kicked, the third was because this guy couldnt kill me so he gave up and vote kicked me. If I do something that no one likes, they will vote kick you and you will probably get kicked. I could be in a game and randomly kicking someone they would probably be kicked.

This is the only swordfighting game I can think of where it is more dangerous to stand behind your opponent than in front of them.

To start off this is a very great game to play for about 20 to 40 hours. Once you start to get the hang of it you realize the game mechanics are actually really rigged and it kind of takes the fun from playing. Also very fun to play rank 1 to 16. That's probably the most fun time I had. After that you're kind of stuck with all the people who know all the rigged tricks, all the exploits and just generally will know more about the game than you will for the dozens of gameplay hours you're going to play.

The learning curve is too steep. Most of the players just give up after they reach rank 16, because they're just going to get their asses handed over to them all the time unless they re-learn everything that happened during rank 1 - 16. This is where the majority quit playing. Even I will most likely quit after I've finished my achievement quota for this game as I really do not see any replay value in this game. The gameplay is simply rigged, bugged and exploitable. With that in mind I say its fun when you get the hang of it, but it is not good for a long time. Even a joke gets old after some time.

If you like getting decapitated every time you attempt to block an attack then they feint the attack and attack again, this game is absolutely for you.

Aside from the stupid combat system that a stroke survivor could beat a professional at, the game has stupid microtransactions for useless ♥♥♥♥ that nobody wants. The maps are not skill based but are focussed on who can mass the largest clump of players at once.

Also prepare to be killed by your teammates more than your opponents.

Imagine the feeling of being in an intense 1v1 fight and you get backstabbed. It hurts until you do it to someone else and fell amazing. Basically rinse and repeat these 2 feelings over and over. Thats Chivalry in a nutshell.
