Chivalry: Medieval Warfare Patch 47 - Unleash the Vypress Sabre!

Unleash the Vypress Sabre in Chivalry: Medieval Warfare - a crossover weapon from Torn Banner Studios’ upcoming multiplayer magic & melee FPS Mirage: Arcane Warfare.

Join the Mirage Steam Community to unlock this brand new weapon in Chivalry: Medieval Warfare, available as a free replacement for the Sabre.

Also in this patch, a freshly baked batch of community-created weapons and armor:

This patch also addresses the following fixes.

  • Miscellaneous exploit fixes
  • Various config file exploits fixed (e.g. removing foliage)
  • Tournament Mode; only admins can unpause a paused match

  • fixed inverted normal map on Cold Spectre Greatsword
  • Fix crash when downloading workshop files if using -nomovie
  • added new UGC rounds 10,11 and 12!
  • added Vypress Sabre… must be a member of Mirage Steam Community

  • reverted accidental change that effectively broke the king objective. Removed bonus time for *completing second objective.

Castle Assault
  • added blockers to prevent you from reaching the gate to the king immediately. They are destroyed 10 seconds after the town objective completes.

  • disabled collision on ash particle and instead added weather volumes to interior spaces to turn off the ash

  • spawn point access blockering, some were quite easy to get into from the outside.
  • Also some blocking volumes added to prevent a map exploit where players could get inside buildings they aren’t meant to.
  • Cove LTS - fully blocked off spawn point zones

  • set lightshaft meshes and fireflies to medium detail up from low (will not show up on low detail now). Set fixed bounds on fireflies particle system.

King's Garden
  • added blockers during the first stage to prevent you from reaching the gate to the king, preventing attackers from camping the gate before the ram objective is complete to make it more fair to defenders

  • set owner of first objective properly so when Agatha successfully completes it they are no longer told they failed
  • tent burning progress bars are now split between left/right tents
  • changed values on mason chieftain AI settings to not be out of range (which can make the AI act dumb)

  • New! FFA map in the final library area of Drunken Bazaar
  • Beta note: fixed broken spawns from first beta build

Misc maps
  • there was one stair mesh with bad lightmaps which is all over hillside

"I’m rather enamoured by the unique flavour of online combat presented by Chivalry. It’s fresh and fun, and like the very best games is easy to get into yet incredibly hard to master."

About This Game

Besiege castles and raid villages in Chivalry: Medieval Warfare is a first-person slasher with a focus on multi-player. Featuring competitive online combat that seeks to capture the experience of truly being on a medieval battlefield. Inspired from the intensity and epicness of swordfighting movies such as 300, Gladiator and Braveheart, Chivalry: Medieval Warfare aims to bring that experience to the hands of a gamer.

The game is skill-based and controls like an FPS, but instead of guns and grenades, players are given swords, shields, maces, battleaxes and longbows. Set in a fictional, yet gritty and realistic world, players will fight in fast paced online battles besieging castles, raiding medieval villages and fighting for glory in the arena with up to 32 players.

Key Features:

  • Deep melee combat system provides players with a huge range of responsive combat options
  • Adjust your attacks and blocks in real time with the mouse for precise and full control of the action
  • Wield an arsenal of up to 60 brutal weapons ranging from broad swords and battle axes to longbows and javelins
  • Dynamic objective system brings team tactics and strategy to the forefront as players batter down gates, raid villages and assassinate enemy royalty to achieve victory.
  • Use a variety of siege weapons ranging from catapults, boiling oil, ballista, battering rams and more
  • Vast, lush environments that transport the player to a gritty and immersive medieval world.
  • Offline play options that allow players to gain familiarity with the controls and gameplay before being thrust into the action.

If you're planning to buy this game now, you need a LOT of patience and commitment. It's very difficult to get into and master as of now due to the toxic community that has developed recently.

I've played this game for bit and I enjoyed it thoroughly for a good few years! My most enjoyable years were roughly 2013 until I decided to stop playing.

I see a lot of you complain about the exploits such as the reverse overheads and yes, it was annoying but we ALL had to go through with the high levels and deal with their crap, being tossed around like a newb. But, the community WAS good at one point and willing to teach you these exploits as well as how to counter them. Everyone was so willing to help you develop and hone your skills in the past. That was what made the game LEGENDARY. You could master everything in roughly 200 hours of gameplay with a teacher. Nowadays, you just gotta learn everything yourself. I'll get more into that in a bit.

I didn't mind the unrealistic exploits as everything is counterable. It really only provided more depth into the game because let's admit it, the combat would be too easy if these exploits were completely fixed. Speaking of fixed, Deadliest Warrior balanced those exploits out by making them do less damage. So it is an improved version catered to those who just want to get into the action without getting demolished.

But back to what I was talking about...the community now. I've decided to hop on around multiple servers and of course, I'm getting kicked from servers for being a higher level. That's always been an issue but not a giant one. But here's the kicker. The amount of trash talking has sky rocketed. I was called trash for being killed as the last person in Last Team Standing. Keep in mind, this was from a renouned clan in Chivalry as well and not some random person.

I left the server and hopped onto another clan duel server to witness a newer player trying to learn from a clan but they were just messing around with him and hazing rather than teaching any kind of fundamentals. This is why you would have to teach yourself as very few people are willing to help you learn and practice, thus taking the game longer to master. You could only really join a clan which would definitely improve your skill as they host practices but only if you are at a certain skill they desire. That is difficult to accomplish nowadays.

I'm sure there are still some helpful clans out there but your numbers have been reduced significantly. Less and less newer players are staying to play as no one really wants to put the effort to show them the ropes. Nearly half the servers on Chivalry are empty on a daily basis unfortunately until a sale hits but that is short lived and only the dedicated high leveled players stay.

All in all, the great days of Chivalry are long gone. All is left is a toxic community with very few helpful people left. It's quite depressing.
I wouldn't pay more than 5 dollars for this game. Just wait for a sale.

as a warning, i will say this game is not for everyone. It is hellishy frustrating and confusing, and has a steep skill curve. that being said, I have put over 100 hours in and am not tired of it whatsoever.

-highly moddable
-very healthy playerbase
-generally frindly community
-variety of weapons and ways to play
-midevial taunts
-co-op modes
-hundreds of maps
-fun as ♥♥♥♥
-complictated, but satisfying combat mechanics

-costs money
-some people are ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥s
-you may rage and delete the game if you don't get the hang of it

if you are skeptical get it on sale
if you are not buy it right now

Even now in the summer sale i think for the price it doesn't worth it, even when i have fun playing it for the little time i've been to.

I don't know if it's my region but the pings were awful, and reading some others rewiews i identify some strange things like players bending almost completely his back behind and atacking in wierd ways, bug given the game has been release in 2012.

I will change this rewiew to recomended and re-purchase the game as soon as it gets fixed but now i'll go for a refund.

It's fine, not too bad but could use some small hotfixes to optimalize experience. Game gist is a little hard to hit enemies.

Overall, it's a nice game!

It's very saddening that after level 16, you're screwed. That's just it, that's the end. Because after level 16, you can't play in the low level servers. You get thrown in with the "big boys", and the big boys are actually exploiters. Sure, they've stuck around for a long time and built up their level, logged tons of hours, and so they are experienced. But they're exploiters. The combat in this game is very fun, until someone does a 360 with a maul right in front of you and oneshots you. It's weird as hell, and I wish the combat didn't have so many flaws. I love everything about this game, except most of the community, and the exploits. If the combat were to get patched up, this game would be perfect. When the combat gets fixed, I'll glady give this game a thumbs up.

Best game ever. 100% fun. Can't get tired of it.

That is, IF TORN BANNER (the devs) FINALLY DECIDES TO FIX THE BLOODY SPINNING GLITCHY ATTACKS (the reverse overheads, rainbows and silly things like that).

No medieval swordsman ever 360° spinned attack while crouching. Unless he wanted to die quickly.

I will pass my review in a "I recommend" status as soon as it gets fixed.

But man I love this game, and it kills me to see that it is still not properly fixed.

> Join dueling server
> Select the Knight class
> Queue up to fight
> Get paired with a new player, knows nothing about the game
> I do the crouch-smashing-your-head-into-the-floor gesture, as a sign of good luck to my opponent
> I can smell his fear
> See that he doesn't do the same gesture, I lose respect for this peasant
> I move to the very center of the arena, allowing him to make the first move
> He takes a swing, but block it as if it was nothing
> I then slice his head off with my axe
> I stare down at his headless corpse, hear and see blood spewing from his neck, his head rolls off to the side
> Queue up again
> And again, and again
> Keep winning lots of duels
> Next queue
> Opponent is a formiddable one
> We do the good luck gesture
> We both walk to the center of the arena
> I take a swing, and he blocks it as if it was nothing
> He then slices off my head with his axe
> He stares down at my corpse, sees and hears blood spewing out from my neck
> Whoever fights noobs, should see to it that in the process he does become a noob. And if you gaze long enough into the blood spewing corpse, the corpse will gaze back into you. - Friedrich Nietzsche

Chivalry is actually pretty enjoyable when you first start playing. After a certain point, however, you realize that the game is broken beyond reason. When you're past level 15, you'll no longer be able to play in low level servers. It means you'll be stuck with 1500 hour tryhards who'll make use of every possible broken mechanic, glitch and bug in the game to dominate you. Apparently, instead of fixing their game, the developers decided to "include" everything broken in the game as part of its core mechanics. Because they are too busy developing another equally broken sequel. They are still updating the game regularly, but the patches mostly include community made cosmetic skins which are sold by real money. Not much bugfixing and never the most important stuff.

What's worse is that the game has one of the most toxic communities I have ever seen. Whenever you try to point out the game's flaws, you will be mocked. You will be insulted. They will tell you to "git gud" at glitching or stop playing. You will be teamkilled by cancerous trolls that never gets votekicked and in retaliation, start a votekick against you.

Newer players realize these problems and stop playing the game sooner or later. So, the servers are full of these glitch♥♥♥♥♥ "experts" who are competing in their own ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ contest about who glitches the best. Since the game doesn't give you a "casual player" space, you'll be stuck in this mess until your growing mental illness prevents you from gaming, or you'll die of cancer.

If you buy this game, there are only 2 outcomes:
1. You'll hate its guts and regret paying even a single dollar for it. You'll most likely uninstall it and never look back.
2. You'll bite and become a glitchmongering cancerous ballerina yourself. You will look down on every reasonable person who realize that the game is a broken, pathetic piece of human feces. You will masturbate on other people's misery.
