What the developers have to say:

Why Early Access?

“Project Electric Sheep is an exciting and complex game with lots of features already enabled, and lots more planned in the near future! As we continue to implement these new features and iron out a few existing bugs, we're really keen to give players access to the game so far. We want people to be able to start creating and exploring their own AI dreams, and we want to gather player feedback in order to find and fix more bugs prior to improve the game prior to full release.”

Approximately how long will this game be in Early Access?

“We currently estimate the game to be in Early Access for about 6 months. We have an internal roadmap with exciting features which we would love to see in the game before leaving Early Access. However, it is also our intention to listen closely to the community’s thoughts and feedback, and prioritise what players most want to see in the game, which will affect the time spent in Early Access.”

How is the full version planned to differ from the Early Access version?

“There are some features planned for the full release – for instance, AI-generated news articles – which will not be implemented in the Early Access version.”

What is the current state of the Early Access version?

“The Early Access version is in a good, playable state. Players will be able to generate and explore their own dreamworlds, chat to NPCs individually or in groups, and see graffiti, advertisements and Dall·E-2 artwork generated by their dream prompt. Players will also be able to explore pre-generated dreamworlds.”

Will the game be priced differently during and after Early Access?

“Pre-existing dreamworlds are free to explore, while generating new dreamworlds or replying to NPCs uses paid-for credits. The base game currently comes with 1500 credits, or enough to create up to 15 dreamworlds. After that, players who want to keep creating dreams can purchase additional credits at the same price. This pay-as-you-dream approach reflects the costs of the generative AI models used in the game's technology.

There are no current plans to change the pricing structure of Project Electric Sheep once it leaves early access. Since launch, we have already reduced the cost of dreams based on the most up-to-date player data. Post-launch, the cost of credits may go up or down again to reflect any changes in the cost of AI generations, but it will always be free to revisit your own dreams or dreams created by other players.”

How are you planning on involving the Community in your development process?

“We have a Discord server for Project Electric Sheep feedback which we monitor very actively. We will point players towards this server to give feedback on bugs and features, and to stay updated on development progress. Here is the Discord server: https://discord.gg/yvFPcNKAgX.”

About This Game

Tell Project Electric Sheep what you wish to dream about and dive into a visual interpretation, where you talk about your dream with virtual conversational characters in a 3D space. The base game comes with 1500 credits, or enough to create up to 15 unique dreamworlds. After that, more credits are available in-game on a pay-as-you-go basis, for creating dreams and replying to NPCs.

Project Electric Sheep is an art experiment designed to hint at how AI and creativity can work together to create dynamic worlds, characters and experiences. It is an exploration of the vital space between human-designed, programmatically-generated content and generative AI systems like ChatGPT.

Explore your unique dreamworld, discover and speak to all the virtual inhabitants of your dream, find Dall·E-generated murals — and once you’re done finding out what one dream has to offer, simply ask Project Electric Sheep to conjure up something new.

AI Generated Content Disclosure

The developers describe how their game uses AI Generated Content like this:

Project Electric Sheep uses generative AI to create character conversations inspired by your dream prompts, as well as to tailor dream worlds to your chosen topics. Below is some more information about which generative AI services we're using in PES, and how:

1. We use ChatGPT to generate NPC dialogue when dream worlds are created and when you reply to an NPC. We use AWS to generate voices for our NPCs.

2. We also use ChatGPT to write in-game world building details, such as graffiti and advertisements, as well as to create the dream description that displays on the dream loading screen.

3. We use DALL·E 2 to paint in-game murals inspired by your dream prompt.

4. Lastly, during the dream generation phase, we use ChatGPT to make creative decisions about world design based on the given dream prompt.
