Good things:

+ Absolutely oozing with LoTR vibe
+ Beautiful landscape that vividly brings Middle-Earth to life
+ Beautiful music
+ Various small details that are so lore friendly(Prancing Pony Hobbit door, flies around lamps at night etc)
+ Beautiful sense of exploration
+ Crafting's traditional, but interesting. And actually useful unlike in many an MMO

Neutral things:

0 Servers only in USA
0 A lot of microtransactions(though you can help yourself if you know what to buy and when)
0 Pretty old school gameplay
0 Talent Trees(this one's completely in the eye of the beholder-imo they've done harm to the game with them, but then again they've potential and they do bring "choices, choices" to the forefront)

Bad things:

- Boring as hell(endless "kill x of y" with slow leveling and old school MMO combat-sorry LoTR IP can't save you from this one)
- Developers lying to players all the time(it happened at the very least 3 times during the lifespan and all of those decisions ruined the game - latest: EU datacentre)
- Easy difficulty + slow leveling = uh-oh.
- Developers don't really care about players(back to point 1)

I'll give it a thumbs up, but be VERY CAREFUL about those cons. It's basically a neutral score anyhow. Because the pros do outweigh the cons.

Fair's fair and it ought to remain as such.

As a big fan of Lord of the Rings, i decided to play the MMO game version of it when I first came across with back in the summer of 2011.During my journeys throughout Middle-Earth I have met important personalities, visited many places and helped a lot of kind people. And I have enjoyed every minute of my adventure..

First of all, I have to congratulate the developers of Turbine for their effort in the creation of Middle-Earth. Following Tolkien's masterworks and using a little bit of their imagination, they created a world which is astonishing and different from any other game worlds. From the green plains of Shire to the icy peaks of Misty Mountains with the deep mines of Moria below them and even beyond, to the White City of Minas Tirith, capital of Gondor, each region offers a unique experience for the player. However the graphics are indeed a bit outdated and it might frustrate some people but that doesn't stop you from enjoying the graphical scenery of the game.

Another good thing about this game is it's variety of quests and tasks. I remember when i was fighting a Barlog in Angmar and the next moment I was at Shire, fishing at Brandywine to collect some fishes for a hobbit. Because adventure in games is not always about fighting epic monsters and bosses...Needless to say that your own personal story is so well merged in the story of the Fellowship of the Ring both chronically and aesthetically. I have to say that is a smart move from the developers that you are not declared as the chosen one or the savior of Middle-Earth from the very beginning. You are just one of the many folks out there who is eager for some adventure and wants to pursue his/her destiny ...Gradually you gain fame from your deeds and more and more people are pinning their hopes on you to purge Middle-Earth from evil.

LOTRO'S music and soundtracks is a strong feature of this game. There's a wide variety of songs here which elevate your gaming experience. Each region has their respective soundtracks which make the game even more atmospheric. You have to test it for yourself to see what I am talking about.

The overall gameplay experience is good. Crafting is an essential and rewarding part of the game. The combat system is enjoyable. You have a large amount of abilities with a variety of combos. LOTRO is by 99% a PvE game because is focusing on its story rather than the fighting. We all know what happens in the end. Good guys win, bad guys lose. Although the PvMP system , where you are playing as an servant or Sauron, is rather fascinating. The community is friendly and there are lots of players willing to participate in numerous instances. Furthermore, the deed system ( =achievements) rewards you with Turbine Points and other stuff ( points for buying things in store) if you are exploring the regions or killing more enemies.

Well, Turbine may be a little expensive ( don't let it mislead you with the F2P label) but in my opinion the pay system is quite handy. Apart from the subscription system where you are forced to pay once a month to have all the areas for free ( like in WoW), you can buy each region of Middle Earth from the store for an amount of money and then you can have it forever with all the quests and deeds of this area.

Personally, I was addicted to this game since the beginning. It is a very good MMORPG for all the LOTR-fans out there who have watched the films or read the books. But if you are not one of them, why don’t give it a try and join in an adventure throughout Middle-Earth?

This is my most played game of all time, I put in over a 1000 hours before installing it via steam on my new computer. A beautiful recreation of Tolkien's world, full of well crafted characters and locations that blend seamlessly with the already established plot. Wouldn't reccommend to non-LOTR fans though. the best way to start with little cost is the Samwise Gamgee Starter Pack.

Lord of the Rings Online is a must play for anyone that loves the world of Middle Earth, but the game itself is dated and suffers from a lack of cohesive game direction and meaningful new content.

Character classes are interesting and engaging, and feel decently varied, but combat overall feels sluggish. The game used to have a great dungeon/raid system, but this has largely been replaced by the lackluster Big Battle system.

Questing is largely comprised of standard kill and fetch quests, but the environments are varied and the storyline is a centerpoint. There isn't a meaningful catch up system though (unless you want to pay quite a bit of $$), so expect to spend quite a bit of time leveling if you're new to the game.

The graphics are beautiful but dated. Character creation is a bit lackluster, but the world itself is where the game really shines.

The music is excellent, and really captures the feeling of Middle Earth. At times it's a bit repetetive, but this is balanced by the ability to create your own music in game.

yeah i broke down after 70 hours of playing.. to finally buy the VIP Pass of the LOTRO. - Cause there is only a certain point ya can efficiently level up . But reallly there are 105 levels from what I am seeing.. Main suggestion to all new players who love the Epic Novels..

DO NOT RUSH the game by Powerleveling.. enjoy the ride. Really you get alot more out of it if you just be a part of the story and enjoy and absorb the LORE of the epic quests... take your time and enjoy this love of work.

A friend of mine recently introduced me to Lord of the Rings (I had never seen it) which led to me getting this game. I have to say that I really enjoy it! I like the combat system because it's not overly complicated and many of the concepts within the game are easy to grasp, even to someone who is fairly new to the LOTR universe. I do sometimes struggle with things like the map, meaning I have a hard time going the right way. However, I believe that this is due to my being new at the game and I feel that I will get the hang of it as I continue to play this amazing game!

Okay, so I downloaded this game, which took a while. Once I had finally finished downloading it, I instantly played it and made my account.
I didn't get a chance to actually play the game as it was 11:00 at night. The next day I tried to play the game and it didn't work, I suspect it was that my computer must've been a bit slow at the time or to actually play the game requires a good computer that isn't as old as mine.
I'm going to try downloading this again on a newer computer that I have and see if it works. For now, though, if you have a computer that is a bit old, then maybe you shouldn't waste your time- otherwise, go for it!
